Interested parties will note that the Seventh Council of the Supreme Union has a term lasting until the end of November 3rd. As such, earlier in October we requested that all citizens interested in running for the Eighth Council register for a place on the ballot. That ballot has just gone out to current citizens. Please check your email inboxes, because if you received an emailed ballot, you now hold the fate of the Supreme Union in your hands. So be gentle.

The votes are in (and have been for about sixteen and a half hours now). Congratulations to Burgjano, 
Mastropa, and Saros, the Eighth Council of the Supreme Union! As Mastropa was previously serving as Clerk for the region, a replacement will be decided on and announced shortly. Thank you to everyone who participated in our twice-yearly excuse to throw a party about who's in what party and waste time waiting for the clock to strike midnight.
The search for a new Clerk has thankfully taken very little time at all. Once again, Cielo solterra and devinaria will be serving our region, this time as the Clerk of the Eighth Council. As our famous Gilead, Cielo is a founding member of the region, who served the region in its youth as President and Governor, and thereafter multiple terms as Councillor. We're pleased to keep his expertise as part of the Eighth Council.

In-character, the year is 1406, but we're a modern-tech region. We just use an alternative calendar that begins when the founder of the Republic of Gliegen, Gunther, sailed westward to found his nation in the New World (the first of many times the Guntherites have made a permanent and ruinous mark on the globe--I mean, what?).

It's still a solar year, but we're just tacking a different number on it for flavor.
Originally I'd thought my AV calendar would be a unique flavor to my nation, but everyone else adopted it for its novelty. Translating from an AV year to an equivalent AD year is the simple linear translation AD = AV + 611 years.
For example, the current year 2017 as (2017 AD - 611 years) = 1406 AV.
As another example, my nation (Gliegen) established a republic in the year 1290 AV. To get an understanding of the technology then, we can translate to AD as AD = (1290 AV + 611 years)= 1901 AD
Otherwise it is the same as the Gregorian calendar.
The new Policy section is pretty neat, what do you guys think?

Thank you so much for your patience, Handiyan. I don't know about the rest of the Council, but I haven't logged in for several days over the holidays, so I'm only now coming to see the application. We'll probably have a decision by tomorrow, if only because I messaged everyone else about it so they're aware.

Decaff knows from his previous experience that most of our activity can be found on Google+ anyway. Granted, we're still slow over there as well right now, but the region isn't dead quite yet.
