Sorry for being so random with my posts. I just want to say life is short so live your dream! I always say live and let live and don’t stress out wasting it on others focus on yourself.

My uncle isn’t going to wake up he is near death. I realize how much time I got to spend with him and it’s hard to take in. I feel like I had so little time with him even though I had a lot of great memories. Life is so short I’m only 25 but the older I get the more I realize the reality of growing up. Miss you SP wish I could get on here more but my focus has been family, work, school, and flight training. I try to get on here when I can especially to look at them limericks lol 😂

Velvet Shoes by Elinor Wylie

Let us walk in the white snow
In a soundless space;
With footsteps quiet and slow,
At a tranquil pace,
Under veils of white lace.

I shall go shod in silk,
And you in wool,
White as white cow's milk,
More beautiful
Than the breast of a gull.

We shall walk through the still town
In a windless peace;
We shall step upon white down,
Upon silver fleece,
Upon softer than these.

We shall walk in velvet shoes:
Wherever we go
Silence will fall like dews
On white silence below.
We shall walk in the snow.

No apologies needed. While this moment is painful and sad, you have those precious memories to enjoy with your uncle. I hope my words don't seem cheap. I have had to say goodbye to many family at a young age, so I can imagine your feelings.

May Elizabeth rest in the arms of the Lord who formed her from the dust of the earth.
May holy Mary, the angels, and all the saints welcome her now that she has gone forth from this life.
May Christ who was crucified for her, bring her freedom and peace.
May Christ who died for her admit her into his garden of paradise.
Amen.

RIP BOZO LOL

Although many of you may not be fans of the late Queen *cough Den *cough*, I would just like to share a little personal story I have of Queen Elizabeth II:

A good few years ago when I was a child, I was out with my Mother and Father walking our dogs in Windsor. It was a misty winter morning and there was not a sole in site (it was about 6am). As nobody was around, we let our dogs off the leads for a run around, not realising that further up ahead was somebody else with their dogs (you can guess where this is going). Our dogs are springer spaniels, meaning they're extremely playful and energetic. Well, off they went bolting towards this stranger in the fog. A few seconds later we just heard a tiny voice go "oh, you are very excited aren't you". We ran over apologising, seeing our springer spaniel jumping up onto the Queen Elizabeth II, getting mud all over her long green trench coat. I had never seen my Father speechless until then, going white as a ghost. Her majesty was really down to Earth and stood talking to us for at least 30 minutes, asking a plethora of question and having a jolly old chat.

You may be asking why I'm telling you all this story, and the answer is I don't know. That said, I hope it highlights her Majesties down to earth nature and love for animals. A woman of great magnitude and service, who will be greatly missed by many.

The Queen is dead. Long live the King.

As an American who has seen many visits between our presidents and The Queen on television, I always admired her for her poise and dignity. Americatain's story highlights what we Yanks always thought about her: that although born to a nobility that we cannot even fathom, she was one of the people.

I'm gonnna miss her. I hope the Brits will give Charles a chance.

The UK has just lost a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a head of state. Elizabeth was probably the greatest asset the monarchy has had since Queen Victoria died 121 years ago. I respected her as a person, however, whatever good she did as Queen, whatever positive impact she had on the lives of others (including Americatain as a young’un) she owed her position purely to the accident of birth, no other reason, none whatsoever. We don’t pick any other significant job holder in our society on this basis, why should we do so for our head of state?

The idea that the monarch is above and beyond politics is laughable. Recent revelations have shown that members of the royal family (including the dear departed) regularly intervene to have proposed laws changed to suit their personal interests. The royals are very much political animals, don’t believe the hype.

Britain is currently facing a fearful myriad of financial, structural and political problems. Many people see the royals and think they somehow unify the country. I look at them see all that is wrong. Wealth, power and influence concentrated in the hands of a tiny number of people.

Indeed the Queen is dead. This gives the country an opportunity to turn the page. Let’s find a better way of running this country before it’s too late. We can make a start by getting rid of the lying, sleazy tories, and work on from there.

Latest shockwave I've had from this was just now hearing Camilla being referred to in the news as "the Queen". Logically I know she now is, but it feels weird to hear anyone except Elizabeth being called that.

I don't quite understand British law regarding Camilla. I heard her called the "queen consort" (or something like that). If Elizabeth's uncle had to abdicate for marrying a divorcee, why not Charles? Or did it have to do with him marrying a foreigner?

I thought that, as a divorcee, Camilla would not be addressed as "Queen." I never liked Camilla. And I fault Charles for having to sow his oats instead of marrying Camilla when he was a young man. I read somewhere that she referred to Princess Di as "that dreadful creature." I liked Princess Di. She had her troubles, but I think she had a good heart. I just don't see that in either Charles or his "consort."

But I like that the Brits have a monarch. And although it's bestowed upon them because of their ancestry, so what? RL ambassadors are appointed, but the UK has its built-in ambassadors. And instead of bashing their country, like so many of the elected persons in the USA, they tirelessly promote theirs.

Wallis Simpson being an American was neither here nor there. If Edward VIII had married her then she would have become Queen. He was forced into abdication by the pearl clutching ninnies that ran the country. Marrying Camilla was allowed because times had changed. It would have saved everyone a whole heap of trouble if he had just married Camilla in the 1970s, but Charles is a ditherer by nature and she married someone else. Plus she wasn’t of the aristocracy, unlike Diana. Camilla is a social climber par excellence. She reminds me slightly of the Queen mother.

I don’t like it, thanks. It matters because we should be able to choose our own head of state. The founding fathers got a lot wrong, but one major thing they got right was that monarchy had had its day as a way of running a country. Ambassadors are appointed, but our current ambassador to the US doesn’t hold the post simply because her dad was previously ambassador. Prince Andrew was a pretty good ‘ambassador’, wasn’t he?

Iirc it's because a man doesn't automatically get the male counterpart of the woman's title. There's also the concern that "king" is usually seen as superior to "queen", so a queen regnant's husband shouldn't have a title outranking her. I think that was why Prince Albert was denied the title of king, despite Victoria wanting him to have it.

Yep, that's also why Phil the Greek was 'only' a Duke and a Prince. A bloody foreigner to boot!

News coverage regarding the late queen overshadowed the annual 9/11 memorials.

The 9/11 memorials should be on Sunday, going by the date at least...

True, but it usually all gets mapped out today.

But then, I was drinking a bit of wine. Or perhaps it was the vodka. Not that I smoked any funny cigarettes.

Sure, wise guy. Tell it to the judge. Bake him away toys....

Here's a serious question: I have never seen the late queen wearing glasses. Or any member of the royal family, for that matter. Did Elizabeth have cataract surgery? Or do they put up with blurred vision for the sake of the camera? What's wrong with wearing glasses?

Noxious Air wrote:Here's a serious question

Are you sure about that?
