Northesta wakes up in a world full of ice, yet it seems that the country has been here a long time. It is much more high-tech than it was back on Alterra, and apparently has knowledge of other nations who knew Northesta was here the whole time. Could this be an alternate universe? How interesting. The government decides to act like nothing happened because it seems to have only affected them. After looking at maps they determine that they take up the space of New England from the old United States of America.

US Supreme Court Justice Ruth bader Ginsburg just died. That's very bad. Even if Trump loses the election in November if he manages to push through a replacement for her before he's booted out it could undo the last 20+ years of LGBT-friendly federal legislation so...yeah...as if America wasn't already in the middle of a massive s**tshow. here in New Hampshire, as well as in Maine and Vermont, gun stores have been consistently sold out of guns, ammo, and survival supplies (Knives/sharpeners, firestarters, etc) since April so I'm not worried about up here but the major cities in the South/bible belt areas are going to get bad if Trump wins in November. (not political just stating likely probability of future events)

Just because they're actively preparing for militant activity does not necessarily mean they themselves are boogaloos. Some leftists - ones I sort-of disagree with, but am unfortunately growing more and more convinced of their correctness by - who are also generally strongly anarchist, plan for militant activity in sort of a worst-case scenario; examples include the John Brown Gun Club/Redneck Revolt or the Socialist Rifle Association. So it's not necessarily fair/useful to assume that people planning militant activity are some degree of far-right crusaders, when they may instead be politically diametrically completely opposite that position.

What is more useful in gauging their intention is to ask what other organizational work they're doing; if they respond with things like mutual aid, community defense (centered on de-escalation), or talk about things like decolonization and deimperialization (and provide examples of such), you can be reasonably assured that they're probably not just in it for violence's sake. You might not agree with their political stance - I don't know your personal politics - but there's very, very clear evidence that right-wing groups are far more violent and deadly than left-wing groups, whose violence is largely (though admittedly not exclusively) limited to property damage.

If, however, you instead get rhetoric about either 1) an impending race war (the more morally objectionable branch of the boogaloos, who want to create an ethnostate in the aftermath) or 2) an impending societal collapse and their desire to survive and dominate in it (another branch that's basically just anarchocapitalists and doomsday preppers hopped up on antigovernment paranoia, but who are marginally less objectionable simply because at least they aren't discriminatory), then yes, feel free to look at them through a negative lens.

If anyone has any further questions about this or, hell, any other political issues in these chaotic times, I can't guarantee I'll know the answer, but I'm generally pretty upfront when I just don't know. You might not agree with my political stances - which, full disclosure, are fairly firmly in the 'socialist' camp (actual socialist, not Bernie socialist, to say nothing of whatever right-wing media is hallucinating when they call Biden one) - but I'm at least pretty objective in outlining where on the political spectrum a political group or particular policy falls. I will, naturally, be propagandizing my political views , which, by virtue of being mine, are thus obviously perfectly correct but I'm usually pretty obvious about it.

(And rest assured, just because I'm a leftist doesn't mean I'll ban people for expressing right-wing rhetoric; the only rhetoric that merits an automatic banjection is any form of discrimination, whether on the basis of biological sex, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, favorite color, nationality, or anything else that would constitute a protected class. You have the full right to express any non-discriminatory opinions you may have without any fear that moderation action will be taken against you. That said, I will probably argue with you.)
