The levantine people

The Voice of the Levantines (Newspaper)
First Hearing of Ammad vs. Jerusalem

Today, the first hearing of the lawsuit filed by Mr. Ammad against the city of Jerusalem will be heard by the Palestine District Court. Mr. Ammad is suing for the repealment of the Defence of Morals Act of 1963, which codified the illegality of homosexual acts in the Kingdom of the Levant.

The Honorable Amir el-Hashem will be presiding over the case, as the request for the case to be heard by the Levantine Royal Court was denied.

Mr. Ammad's argument is the following: "For too long has the Levant criminalized the act of love. Based solely on the misguised, outdated morals of certain religions, they have sought to oppress citizens of the Levant that are no less patriotic or deserving of love and freedom than a heterosexual citizen. My boyfriend and I have nothing but love for the country that has raised us, and we both stand proudly whenever our flag wave, and sing loud when our anthem plays. All we ask is that our right to love each other be respected just as much as our mothers' and fathers' love is."

The City of Jerusalem's counterargument is the following: "What happened to Mr. Ammad and Mr. Amara id unfortunate, however the Jersualem Police Department were only performing their duty in enforcing the law. The city will not debate whether or not the law is right, only that it must be followed, unless that law is legally changed through the proper channels. Therefore, Mr. Ammad has no right to sue Jerudalem and its police force for performing their civic duties, anymore than a person may sue for a speeding ticket."

We here at the Voice will keep you, our loyal readers, updated on the case as it continues.

News from the front

General Akanni Adeyemi takes Ain Salah!

General Adeyemi's troops today accepted the surrender of the militia guarding the town after having it surrounded. So far barely any resistance has been given by any town being attacked. After the news circulated of the surrender the Belounis tribe headquartered in Adrar and the Boutella tribe headquartered in Illizi have declared they are siding with the general in this conflict.

Reports suggest with the general's flanks secured by his new allies he has pushed his forces north in a bid to eventually reach the capital. Further north Union militia have set up defences on the intersection where the N51 and the N1 highways meet. Their troops have been heavily concentrating on that area as the general's troops cannot push north without taking it.

Roman troops enter the Tuareg Union!

Roman troops crossed the border and have sent troops to the capital Ouargla, Ghardia and Bechar. Ghardia is the location of the Roman base for troops operating in the Union, Ghardia is a very important place for Roman interests as every oil pipeline that connects to Roman Africa passes through the city.

Now, I'd be remiss if I were not to ask for any fascinating stories about this. "Oh, yes. The biggest story I have right now would definitely be my son. He's a damn good man but he certainly can't grow up. I tried so hard to get him a woman to continue our bloodline, yet he still insists on being a DJ. Hell, he has groupies all over the world he could chose from, but he simply doesn't want in." Francis would reply.

Sophia, the Queen Consort, would move in to defend his son. "Francis, don't get too worked up my love.. Armin still is friends with Kate?"

"Friends, just friends.. And Kate is in Paris with her own life. Doesn't seem like she will cozy up with Armin while he's all over the world..."

"And speaking of Armin, how has he done over here in your country? It seems that our DJ's are acting more plenipetentarious than our actual ambassadors." Francis cracked a small joke.

Demand for oil rises!

With the news of Ain Salah falling in the Tuareg Union it is only a matter of time before most of the major oil fields surrounding it also fall into his hands. Most of the Republic imports oil from the Union and it is expected that exports of oil will decrease. The Department for Trade and Commerce has made a request to fellow Tetrarchy members Infiny, Central mursia and Gramuntaria to export oil to companies in Rome whose demands for oil increase.

Protests in Rome

protests have erupted outside the Senate House against sending troops into the Tuareg Union. In a press conference the press secretary had this to say about the situation "The Republic has sent troops only to protect the interests of the people of Rome. Already we have felt repercussions with the loss of Ain Salah, how much longer should we wait? until the wanna be tyrant crosses into the Republic? until Carthage falls? No! we stop him now before he can do more harm."

Sea Pro

Sea Pro is The Martí Republic’s most popular way to dive, boat, fish, and explore the coasts and waters of our beautiful country.

Sea Pro is excited to announce venture across several new locations based around the philosophy of encouraging others to explore.

Sea Pro will be adding on fishing charter locations across Florida, South and North Carolina, Virginia, and along all the states that border the Great Lakes. We will also be working closely with distributors and local fishing tackle shops to make this an all around wonderful experience.

Sea Pro is also opening up shop in Hawaii and California, not only opening fishing charters, boating and diving tourism spots, but also taking up surfing in these specific locations, and how will we be doing that??

Sea Pro is also excited to announce we are joining forces with Boardriders! based out of California! Boardriders has top brands in the surfing, long boarding and skateboard worlds with brands ah h as:
Roxy, DC shoes, and quicksilver. Not to mention, Billabong out of Australia. Honolua Surf Company, Kustom, Palmers Surf, Xcel, Tigerlily, Sector 9 and RVCA are the company's other brands that they own, as well as Von Zipper and Element.

This is a large and decisive move for Sea Pro, and with a delicate acquisition such as this, Sea Pro will retain headquarters in Sydney as Billabong, Huntington Beach, CA as Boardriders, and Havana as SeaPro, all organizations will fall under the parent company, SeaPro Group.

All current organizational structures will remain in place, and it is business as usual. With this large move we will see massive job growth in not only Cuba and the rest of the republic, but Australia and the United States.

We will begin working with our distributors to ensure integration and logistics run as smoothly as possible in each region.

Infiny wrote:His Royal Majesty King Sultan bin Ahmed has been welcomed in Mogadishu. The fact that the relations between our nations have cooled down to levels where they do not belong makes this visit much more significant. We welcome the strengthening of our relations, which has been long overdue. When the Empress sees the King and his delegation, she quickly walks up to them.

Valeria: 'Your Majesty, it is wonderful to meet you and your delegation here in Mogadishu. We have allowed our relations to water down for far too long. I hpoe that we can use this occasion to strengthen ties between our nations. Say, how is the situation in Diadochi? I believe the increasing modernization of the Kingdom has reaped great benefits for you and the people, hasn't it?

King Sultan: Your Majesty, first of all may I thank you for inviting us to this reception. Since I assumed the throne in 2009, and even several years before that in 2002 under the reign of my late father King Ahmed bin Rashid, the Kingdom has launched an effort to exert growth on all parts of society, much like your Kingdom under your grandfather I believe.

Besides the growth of our economy and the effort to diversify, which I think is self explanatory, a major initiative undertaken under my government has been the expansion of social rights especially for women and tolerance of other religions. This isn’t obviously a very tedious effort, as every move that is made might have enormous repercussions. It is for this reason that we have cracked down on religious fundamentalists in the last two years.

Under my father’s reign, he courted these fundamentalists, brought them into government, and heeded their advice for most of the time. However, they were keeping us in the 14th century. Once my brothers and I began to take part in governance we helped my father learn more about the West and its customs, as well as the standards that most of the rest of the world held. Unfortunately he was quite old at the time and was never able to enact these reforms himself, but amongst his final wishes was that we would carry on his legacy after his death.

Since then, we’ve established an advisory legislature in 2002, granted limited suffrage in 2006, ended the mandated death sentence for homosexuality in 2009, established women suffrage in 2011, altered the apostate law in practice from a death sentence to revocation of citizenship in 2012, gave women the right to serve in legislature in 2014, the right to drive in 2015, and now last year in 2018 mandated that 50% of the legislature must be women.

This of course wouldn’t be possible without our current circumstances, with nearly 60% of our population under the age of 30, and over 70,000 studying abroad each year. The fundamentalists, who previously represented a large percentage of our populace, have found themselves in the minority, and for this reason have thrown their support behind radical groups like the Ikhwan.

Your Excellency,

First, allow me to congratulate you on the establishment of EFTO in the first place. It is great to see nations associate with one another in the spirit of peace and prosperity rather than in the spirit of hate and division. Infiny considers the EFTO to be a great development for the prosperity of your region, and we thus wish to extend our fullest support to the organization. Naturally, due to our geographic location, the extent of our support is limited. As such, we would like to join the EFTO as a non-European partner. We believe that increased free trade between our regions will boost both our economies and allow our nations and our peoples to further pursue their happiness. Valeria: The changes that you have been pursuing during your reign are deeply commendable, and worthy of great respect. I'm certain that many of these developments were far from easy to reach, certainly with the powerful reactionary interests that you have mentioned. Infiny would be all too happy to increase its ties and its trade with your nation, so that both our nations' modernization can go hand in hand, and that we can learn from one another while we mobilize.

Also, I should mention, I was quite amused when you mentioned my 'grandfather.' I would have to correct this minor misinterpretation. Infiny has been an elective monarchy since 2015, which allowed me to become its monarch without being related to my predecessors by blood. My grandfather- I suppose you mean Emperor Infico II, was from another bloodline than I am. Nonetheless, your assertion is correct. I believe that the Imperial Federation went through similar changes under his reign like Diadochi goes through now. However, Infiny is far from completed, or done with those reforms. That is why I would once again stress my previous words, about strengthening our ties. And to achieve that end, I once again have to express my appreciation towards the fact that you are here.

Orange-bourgogne wrote:Opposition announcement
~ OBBC News

Earlier today, the head office of Regnum Unitum, the main opposition party in Orange-bourgogne, informed OBBC News that they were preparing a major announcement. They subsequently invited us to cover the announcement which could begin any moment now. The message will be delivered by Mr Arthur of Avalon MP, the Leader of the Opposition, at the Regnum Unitum HQ in Birmingham. The message will also be broadcast live through various social mediums…

The coverage switches from the studio in Westminster to the podium in Birmingham. Arthur of Avalon walks up to the centre and waves to his audience: hundreds of enthusiastic people who clap and shout as he stands in front of him.

Arthur of Avalon MP: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Birmingham and thank you for attending this important event!”

The crowd cheers once more and even louder than when Mr Avalon entered.

Arthur of Avalon MP: “As you all know, we suffer greatly under the Inclusive Society Act which recently was forced through Parliament. Because of this Act, men are far more likely to get punished for behaviour that cannot be described as criminal. Because of this Act, businesses face the most radical reforms in work regulations in the history of this nation. Because of this Act, corporations will not be able to invest in our economy, putting millions of jobs at risk in the longer term. Because of this Act, white males are discriminated against because of the hurt ‘feelings’ of the criers from Vox Populi.

A research by the Independent Bureau for Statistics shows us that eighty per cent of this nation rejects the Inclusive Society Act. A study by the Academic Society for Political Affairs said that the Inclusive Society Act is, and I quote, “the most disliked Bill to become law since the 1900s”. People from all over the country spoke out against the Act… Yet the Pankhurst Administration refuses to listen, because they want to save their little coalition with Vox Populi whatever the costs may be.

Why is it then, we must ask ourselves, that the coalition is so precious for the current Administration? To me, the answer is clear and simple: because they would not survive a General Election. Both Vox Populi and the Social Republican Front face disastrous polls; even the Party of Bourgogne, which only competes in about twenty constituencies, shows more popularity than the two government parties.

Now what does this say to us? I think that we should be very cautious. The government parties see themselves as progressive, but the people of this country do not ‘progress’ at all from their policies and legislation. In fact, we only suffer because of them. I predict that the Administration will do whatever it takes to remain in power. We already suspected fraud during the last General Election, but it was deemed “nothing to look into” according to the Electoral Commission’s President Sir Tim Wood. This is the same Mr Wood who actively campaigned for an SRF government when my predecessor was in Government. They then refused to let a court of justice review their findings, which we should remember on days like these. And let us never forget the fact that they already gave an Member of Parliament, our own William Huntingdon MP, house-arrest for speaking out against their policies.

When the Act became statute law, a period of six months was granted in which it would not be enforced actively. Of those six months, but three remain. Companies are desperate for at least an extension or – better still – a complete repeal. We already heard from the Bank of Orange-Bourgogne that the economy is doing worse than expected. Yet the Administration refuses to take the necessary action.

Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, we must do it ourselves! Right now, I will launch a demonstration throughout the country that will last for three days starting next week. We will organise a ‘National Strike’! We will take matters into our own hands once again. Let us show this Government that their time in office is up! Let us show them that we have enough of their nonsense, that we want actual policies and good legislation that improves peoples’ lives, instead of making them more difficult!

During the first three days of next week, we will send a message to the Prime Minister that even she cannot ignore. I implore you, join the movement now! Thank you.”

National Strike gains loads of support
~ OBBC News

The nation-wide demonstration to be organised by the Official Opposition against the Inclusive Society Act has gained a considerable number of participants already, Dame Mary Wilson MP (Regnum Unitum) said in an interview with our editors this morning. The ‘National Strike’, which was announced yesterday, managed to gain no less than two million subscribers, senior party staff have confirmed. One of them described the number of people willing to join “exponentially” and “beyond what we ourselves hoped for”.

Leader of the Opposition Arthur of Avalon MP (UNI) said that he is “overwhelmed but not too surprised” by the support he now received. He called it “amazing” when he learned that within three hours, already half a million people had signed up to his event. He also called for the Government to “take notice of this movement […] The people clearly have enough of the Inclusive Society Act, which must now be repealed at once”.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Madeleine FitzGerald MP (Vox Populi), who also has media in her portfolio, said that “the Government has taken notice of the announcement, but has not deliberated on its legality yet. We will take into account both the freedom of assembly and protest, but cannot look away from protecting innocent citizens from the likely violence that could arise out of the situation. We also have not received an official application for the protest, which the Government believes to be required in this particular instance.

More on this as it develops.

Respected members of the council,

I would like to thank you for reviewing Infiny's official application for membership of the organization, and I am happy to hear that the evaluation has been favorable. Allow me to quickly address the various provisions that you have named;

- The provisions for the free trade of goods and services between members of the European Free Trade Organisation and Infiny will be accepted. We would, however, like to know whether this provision automatically extends itself to partners of the EFTO, such as Infiny and the Qing Dynasty.
- The right for individual member states to refuse the entry of products and services which do not meet the relevant legislation is unequivocally accepted.
- The absence of influence of this treaty on individual agreements between Infiny and individual member states of the EFTO is also accepted.

Therefore, we have no objections to anything outlined in your kind response, with the exception of the minor question in the first point. We are looking forward to many years of prosperity as a non-European partner of the EFTO.

Presidential Town Hall in Port-au-Prince

An attendee of the event poses a question: Why is there a catholic key on the flag, and do you utilize your faith in your decision making as president? And how does your degree in theology affect your judgement?

President Marcos Pérez That’s a well thought question, and one I appreciate and I’m sure my aides would like me to be delicate on. The Crowd chuckles

However, I must say that the key on our flag isn’t representative of the Catholic Faith. The key is in fact representative of the idea that our country, an old one dating back to the days of European rule, and possibly even way before that, is that our group of islands are the key to the America’s. We represent a landing point, a point of destination for people. Not only that, but it represents that our country is one that you can unlock your greatest potential.

Now it isn’t lost on me that a majority of the population is catholic. I am a catholic as well, but the separation of church and state is one that I sincerely believe in. I let my faith guide me in my life, and I have prayed before I ran for president, I’ve prayed during and I’ve prayed while in office as well. My faith is the key to my moral compass. I will admit to being human, and perhaps at times it has guided me in my decisions or stopped me from doing what was the right thing.

The attendee asks him if he believes in a set of laws that decisions should not be made in government based around faith

It’s something that I believe should never be allowed in place. Those laws have popped up in debates before between senators, i my self have been involved in those discussions. And I have always argued strongly against.

It’s a step on the path towards state sponsored atheism. Now there is nothing wrong with atheism, nor agnostics. But state sponsored atheism is dangerous and it would violate the freedom that people have a born right to have, and that is a freedom of religion and faith, among many other freedoms.

There’s a handful of countries across the world that have laws like these in place, and they tend to be all single-party governments that dictate every function of life. They say they allow worship, but they don’t. It’s a lie and these governments continue to lie to the people who live in their borders and they continue to suppress and dictate more. It’s socialism, it’s communism, and if history has ever told us anything, is that fascism and communism and socialism are all negatives on the human story.

National Strike Day 1: The Beginning
~ OBBC News

Thousands of protestors and demonstrators have gathered for the official launch of the National Strike in Birmingham on the invitation offered by the Leader of the Opposition, Arthur of Avalon MP (Regnum Unitum). The protest started in the national head office of the main opposition party, where various MPs and others spoke to the mass that came to take a look and participate.

Besides this main protest, other such events were also organised throughout the nation. Our correspondents have confirmed that in every provincial capital and major regional city or town of Orange-bourgogne a demonstration against the Inclusive Society Act was held.

The primary goal of these protests is to make the Government repeal the Inclusive Society Act, which has been described as “the most harmful [Act] to our society in modern times”, “a dreadful piece of legislation”, and even “utter nonsense written by a handful of people who live in a fantasy world”.

It is estimated that about two million demonstrators took part in one of the official protests today, while another half a million is said to have been involved with other demonstrations alongside these protests.

Prime Minister Nichola Pankhurst MP (Social Republican Front), promised her coalition partner Deputy Prime Minister John Brand MP (Vox Populi) that she will not repeal the Inclusive Society Act. The reason for this is simple: both parties are seen as co-authors and potentially face the worst electoral results in the history of their existence. The coalition that now commands a safe absolute majority in the Lower House seeks to buy some time to restore order in the nation and bring the country back together. It is, however, highly questionable if they can manage to do this.

What was also interesting to see, is who supported the National Strike in a more passive manner. In the countryside, people are far more likely to oppose the Inclusive Society Act, a study shows. A case has also been made that business owners are more likely to endorse the strike if they are operating at home rather than overseas.

The police told us that apart from a few minor incidents, there were no clashes between themselves and the protestors. A senior officer told OBBC News that the protestors were “behaving well and not causing too much troubles for us”.

The Westminster City Stock Exchange declined a bit, as brokers worried that the nation would plunge into violence and chaos, but as this did not happen, the markets “stabilised”. That is, they still fell a bit because of the statement made by the Prime Minister that she will hold onto this Act.

It is expected that tomorrow, even more people will participate in the demonstrations. Of course, we will closely follow all events connected therewith and broadcast them as they happen.
