Market crash comes to a halt

It is now a week since the Chancellor of the Exchequer allowed the Westminster City Stock Exchange (WCSE) to resume business, and it seems that we have finally reached our deepest point. Since the last two hours, the WCSE has stopped plummeting and is now more or less stable. Earlier, HM Treasury projected a crash that would last for only one day, but it can now be said that this view was too optimistic. The Orange-Bourgognian economy has shurnked with about two and a half per cent. The WCSE did slightly worse: its value has decreased with more or less three per cent.

However, it must be said that there are wide gaps between different sectors of our economy. The financial services's market, which was hit the most under the brutal regime by former Prime Minister Nichola Pankhurst, did much worse than say the rural companies that trade in cattle. The Civilian War resulted in a shortage of fresh food products like fruits and meat, meaning that the companies in these sectors were able to recover from their losses relatively quickly.

By and large, the Governor of the Bank of England said that he is "cautiously optimistic". He thinks that the Government's plans to invest - with financial support from the Union (Imperial Eagle) - will now be able to recover slowly but steadily.

Floris Blokland MP (OBU), a junior minister in the Treasury, adds to these remarks that "it is important to remember that while we suffered greatly from the Civilian War, we also have the capabilities and resources to recover from it. We have one of the best economies in the world, and we are one of the safest nations to invest in, especially now that our political struggles came to an end".

The Treasury also announced that they have no intention to close down the WCSE again as they claimed that such a move might have "even constitute more complications".

The two officials looked around the customs area with intrigue, basically window-watching as they waited. She Might Be a Fairy pointed then, at some of the people milling outside who did not seem to be natives of Labyrnna. "Hey, She Might Be a Dragon, do those people look familiar to you?"

She Might Be a Dragon sighed. "Don't point, it's rude. I don't think I know them. But yes, they don't look like they are from here. Perhaps we should see if they are here for the Cultural Exhibition as well?"

"Yes." said the smaller figure. "Let's go. I don't like being inside." The two of them headed outside, holding their robes slightly up so as to not trip over them in their hurry to try and keep up with the scholarly looking people. With a few more choice paced strides, the two managed to catch up to Pluvie's leaders. "Excuse me." said She Might Be a Dragon. "We do not mean to intrude, but good people, are you on your way to the Cultural Exhibition?"

A letter from the Pontiff's desk

A diplomatic letter was recently sent to all the major heads of state in Geopolity. It comes from a far away realm, a theocratic republic called Sancta romana ecclesia. It bears an exquisite orange seal depicting two crossed keys enveloped by a laurel. The letter reads as follows:

"From the office of the Pontiff.

We, the Holy Pontiff of S.R.E. bid Our greetings to you, Your Excellency. We wish to develop ties with the region in which your nation resides, with hope that such a move will be beneficial to both parties. This is why We have recently sent a diplomatic mission to the nation of Labyrnna, with the purpose of negotiating creating a Sanctan consulate there. If Your Excellency's nation is pleased to establish diplomatic relations with S.R.E., We, the Pontiff, see no obstacle to do so.

I pray to the Almighty that this will prove a beginning of peaceful coexistence and successful cooperation between the two of our regions."

She Might Be a Dragon quietly sighed, as if resigned to the fact that She Might Be a Fairy was not going to behave all that properly. The other leader speaks for the first time:

“Yes it was an Aphras the 3rd who invited us here I believe. I should assume that is the same Mr. Aphras. And we are just as lost as you folk. There seem to be a lot of very different and interesting people here, but neither of us know if this is where we’re actually supposed to be. Perhaps we should seek out this Mr. Aphras the 3rd.”

Ministry of Internal Affairs building, Puerto Deseado

Minister María Vecchia was at her office, signing papers regarding recent changes in visa policies that the Government had approved in the previous days, when the phone at her desk rang.

"Vecchia speaking" she said after picking up.

"Camarada Ministra, sorry to interrupt you. We have numerous reports from the Gendarmerie that dozens of strangers are arriving at border checkpoints and port customs."

"And the problem is...?" inquired the Minister.

"Reports say that almost all, if not all of them... their passports... it seems that they come from nations that don't... exist, Comrade Minister" replied the assistant over the phone.

"Well, if they have forged documents then don't let them in. Arrest them if they insist on entering. Stop wasting my time, Mr. Saavedra, please."

"Don't hang up, Comrade, please. It... it'll sound crazy but..."

"But...?"

"They appear to have an endless supply of... chocolate cookies and scented candles with them... They say they come from a land called Karma."

"What? If this is some kind of joke, Comrade Saavedra, I'll have you fired. Do you understand?"

"I told you it would sound crazy but it's the truth, Comrade Minister. Come and see it yourself, please. I'm at the port customs area."

Pausing for a few seconds, the Minister replied:
"Comrade Saavedra, I will go there right away to tell you in person to come back to this building with me and remove your personal belongings from your former office. I'll see you soon."

María left her office and went to the ground floor. A government car soon took her to the port of the city. Moments after arriving, it was not difficult to notice that something strange was happening. Police and Gendarmerie officers, port workers and even passerbys had gathered close to the customs area.

"Move aside people, come on". Police officers escorting the Minister tried in vain to disperse the crowd. After walking through it with some difficulty, she saw them.

Dozens of foreign visitors wearing strange clothes, chatting amicably and giving gifts to people from the crowd that had gathered around them, each of them telling a different story of their birthplace called "Karma".

"I told you, Comrade Minister"

María turned her head and there was Mr. Saavedra, holding a small bag of chocolate cookies in his left hand.

Announcement on behalf of the Representative Council

The Representative Council of the USSSEA has voted unanimously in favour of removing the need to apply for a visa for citizens of our comrade nations in the International Cooperation Council.

As a result, citizens from the Soviet Union, (Novaya rossiyskaya imperiya), Furstia, Danubia, (Donau-bundesreich), The hellenes league and Vicintia will be exempt from needing to apply for the following Visas:

Troops from the 3rd Military district, headquartered at Da nang, are conducting amphibious assault exercises alongside sailors from the Gepard Class frigates, 011 Đinh Tiên Hoàng and 012 Lý Thái Tổ.

The purpose of these exercises are to train The People's army of Southeastern Asia in amphibious warfare alongside naval elements and to test whether the outdated Polnocny-class landing ships, that are currently operated by The People's Navy of Southeastern Asia, are still fit for service.

With Vicintia's ascension to the ICC the Department of Foreign Affairs has had to revise the visa rules regarding citizens of nations from the ICC. Vicintia's policy of reciprocal conduct means visa restrictions on the citizens of Furstia and Southeastern asia now match the requirements they have set for Vicintian's.

The Department of Defence has announced new joint naval and air force drills in the Indian Ocean that members of the ICC are welcome to send ships to participate in. The drill will simulate a large naval force attempting to gain naval and air superiority over the Island of Sri Lanka. The first phase of the drill will have the Vicintian navy attempt to harass and stall the superior invading force long enough for defences to be set up in Sri Lanka. The second phase will take place around Sri Lanka itself. With the help of simulation technology the Vicintian high command is eager to see how Vicintian commanders and generals handle the situation.
