Board of Revenues

The Board of Revenues will be collaborating with various tech companies across the country as it aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the State's banking system.

Part of the plan is to use the power of Big Data and AI to transform the way banks manage the risk of lending to small to medium sized business enterprises, as well as enable lenders and creditors to better monitor how those loans are actually used. The Bank of the Board of Revenues, the Qing's central bank, will be rolling out pilot AI technology to automate and accelerate how operational performances for borrowers is tracked, as well as helping borrowers spot potential problems earlier. The integration of these technologies can also be used to ensure that loans actually support businesses and livelihoods, instead of having the money be funnelled to real estate or financial market speculation by borrowers.

The Board of Revenues has also authorized financial technology (fintech) companies to distribute relief funds to small to medium-sized business enterprises, as the government aims to ensure that critical financial aid gets to small firms. Currently, such small firms comprise up to 90% of all the nation's companies - ensuring that such businesses receive support will absolutely be critical to economic recovery. Previously, the Qing government had released plans for a monumental path to economic recovery following the Southern Rebellion, as part of the government's economic recovery plan.

The scale of fintech companies’ networks allows them to reach the small and micro businesses that may be ignored by banks, which are focused on loaning to larger borrowers. Said company's wealth of data, and strength in AI-driven risk management and user-friendly platforms, can also be useful due to their ability to process and deliver loans to the right recipients at speed.

Working in conjunction with the Bureau of Food Distribution, Athens will be testing “neighborhood fridges” in local grocery super stores.

These fridges will contain products that are close to expiration, donated items from locals and the store, aS well as farm fresh vegetables provided by local farmers.

The fridges will consist of various pantry and refrigerated items. These items will be free to those who need them, and will be policed by the stores to ensure fairness and quality.

10 of these locations will be placed in the Athens area. The goal is to help those who need food get food if they are unable to go to a homeless shelter or food pantry at a religious institution, as well as provide higher quality foods.

Athens, Greece

After a long test run, it is found that this program was successful, and continues to be successful.

The main point of the program had been to drive hunger down in poorer neighborhoods, with hunger being described as inadequate access to food, or inadequate access to food with good nutritional value.

Those rates dropped by almost 25% in poorer neighborhoods surrounding the 10 test sites.

These locations will be expanded to 25 more locations across the Athens Metropolitan area. The government in Byzantium has also opted in for the program, with 25 sites of their own to be set up over the coming months.

We will be working with supply chains to identify additional areas of concern across the country, and gain greater access to food items for the “neighborhood fridge” initiative

In coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, universities in Athens and Byzantium, the ADC announces the following: $35 million in research into the effectiveness of “Urban Farming Structures” and their possible use in the Aegean Islands.

The Aegean Islands have a population that is growing, and is also faced with several million tourists every single year. The use of such farming structures have seen success in various parts of the world, and we plan on conducting research on them to see if they prove fruitful for use in the Aegean islands.

This will put less strain on farmers on the mainland, and could help supplement mainland food supplies as well.

This research will take place over the next two years (104 RL days)

Update:

The “Urban Farming in Aegean Islands” project has come to a conclusion: that it is indeed useful in the islands with its growing population, and it shows huge promise in various climates across Hellas.

During this research phase, 3 small towers around 30 feet tall were constructed based on designs submitted by architectural firms working with universities and the ministry of agriculture.

These small towers constructed on the islands of Naxos and Lesbos produced enough agricultural goods to sustain several restaurants and hotels, and hundreds of families on the islands.

The Ministry, based on these findings, is moving forward with constructing 20 more Urban Farms across the Aegean’s, with supporting infrastructure. These designs will be based on the surrounding aesthetics of the islands that they will be on so that they blend in, but also serve their main functional purpose.

Part of this initiative is that they will operate on solar and wind energy, with getting close to 100% energy independence as possible to reduce the carbon output.

It’s expected that this initiative will take an additional 2 years to complete and $350 million.

The hellenes league wrote:Bureau of Infrastructure Development (BID)

Following years of research and development, BID and other agencies have approved the Byzantium Canal Project.

This project is large in scale, and is anticipated to take 4 years (208 RL days) to complete, with costs being projected at up to $23 billion dollars.

We are working with our partners in the USSR (Novaya rossiyskaya imperiya) and they have agreed to invest $10 billion into the project (they will be working with private companies to secure these investments, as well as various amounts of government money that will be disclosed by them if needed to USSR media outlets)

The other $13 billion is being invested by public and private corporations and by federal and state governments.

The project details include the following:

The waterway will have a length of 45 km (28 mi), with a depth of 20.75 m (68.1 ft). Its width will be 360 m (1,180 ft) on the surface and 275 m (902 ft) wide at the bottom.

the project will pass through Lake Küçükçekmece near the Marmara Sea. It will pass through the districts of Avcılar and Başakşehir before reaching the Black Sea in the Arnavutköy district north of the city. Seven kilometers of the route passes through Küçükçekmece, 3.1 kilometers goes through Avcılar, 6.5 kilometers goes through Başakşehir, and the major 28.6-kilometer part of the route goes through Arnavutköy.

The largest ship sizes that can pass through the canal were determined as 275-350 meters long, 49 meters wide, draft of 17 meters and an air draft of 58 meters.

We have begun the process of employing those who will work on the project, already having secured 6k people. An additional phase of hiring will include an additional 7-9k workers. The Army Corps of Engineers and local reserve units will play a role in the construction of the canal, with 2,000 units being deployed to assist.

When the Byzantium Strait is completed, it will employ 900 to 1k workers, and is estimated to bring in an additional $8 to $10 billion per year in revenue.

This project will help relieve ship traffic in the Bosphorus and reduce time in the canal, enabling the Black Sea community and Hellas and others who utilize the canal to save time and money, and increase overall trade.

The Byzantium Canal has also been determined to not be subject to the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits. During its development agreements will be reached with members of the international community regarding the new Byzantium Canal.

Basileus Nikolaus Atreidai is excited for the completion of the canal, and the many benefits it will bring to the area. Economic and job development of Hellas and expanding trade is the gateway to a future in which Hellas is to be a dominant player in trade in the European and overall global community.

Phase 1 is set to begin within the next month. As we approach the completion, BID will make further announcements as needed.

BID update

Phase 4 of the Strait Project begins with new construction of earthquake resistant residential constructions, schools, and shopping centers along the new waterway. This will help facilitate the long term growth that the canal will induce in the surrounding area.

On the side of the Black Sea, close to the Byzantine Airport, a large cargo port is also being constructed, being part of the initial phase 2 of this project in regards to support buildings and and infrastructure.

A large part of the infrastructure project is integrating railways and highways to support movement of people and cargo. This phase ran a higher cost, with the government pumping in an additional $2 billion (total cost of project now being $25 billion). Portions of the money went to existing high speed rail way systems to upgrade and expand them in anticipation of being integrated as part of the new strait infrastructure system.

BID will provide additional updates over the weeks to come.

The Land of the Rising Son - Part 1

Empress Akiiyo sat in the main garden surrounded by governmental officials who were talking amongst themselves about current affairs in Japan and the rest of the world. The talking stopped when Empress Akiiyo spoke. "I would like everyone to leave for now. I wish to be alone." she said. This request was met with a chorus of "Yes, Empress". As everyone walked away from the garden, the guard proceeded to leave. "Gaurdsman, you stay. I wish to speak with you." she said. The guardsman nodded. "Yes, Empress." he said.

She patted the ground next to her, telling the guard to sit next to her. The guard complied and did so. "How are you liking your job?" she asked. "I... I enjoy being an Imperial Guard, your majesty." he answered, slightly confused. Empress Akiiyo looked at him. "You don't seem confident in that answer." she noted. He shook his head, then nodded. "I do genuinely enjoy being an Imperial Guard. The question just caught me off guard, Empress." he admitted. Empress Akiiyo smiled at him. "You do not need to use formalities at this time, guardsman. Also, it is surprising that an Imperial Gaurd could be caught off his guard." she said with a slight chuckle. "Do you enjoy it for the sake of enjoyment, or because your freedom depends on it?" she asked with the chuckle hanging on her voice.

The gaurd thought for a moment. "Genuine enjoyment, your- s-sorry." he answered. She chuckled again. "Apologies aren't needed, either." she said. "Anyway, I am glad to hear you have found something you genuinely enjoy. I wished to speak with you because I am granting you your freedom. Since my father is no longer Meishu, and dead, his plan to use you as a weapon won't go through. You may remain a gaurd if that is what you choose. However, if you choose to remain a gaurd, you will not be guarding the Chrysanthemum Throne and the garden when I am present." she explained. He looked at Empress Akiiyo in confusion. "I wish to remain a gaurd, but what will I be doing?" he asked. She smiled at him once again. "You'll be my personal gaurd. You'll protect me all hours of the day. However, your sleep schedule will change according to mine." she said. A shocked expression flashed across his face.

"This is... different." he said. Empress Akiiyo nodded at him. "Yes, it is. A change for you considering your previous duties. I haven't appointed a personal gaurd since the tragic passing of my father's gaurd." she said. "I am honored, Empress." he said, holding his left fist to his chest. Empress Akiiyo looked around the garden and so did the gaurd.

"When I was younger, I use to come here all the time. My mother and I would sit in this spot and look at the garden. It was so beautiful then with all the different plants and trees. Once she passed, the garden withered away from the consciousness of my father. He let this garden die. Only recently have I had this garden redone." she explained. The guard remained silent to let her speak. "I didn't want to be the next Meishu. My father made my brother and I fight, and since I believed my life was on the line, I made sure I won. Knowing my father, I couldn't back down once he knew I won. He said my brother was banished for losing to me, but I found out that he believed that was too weak of a punishment. He had his only son killed. Despite not wanting to be Empress, I will stand as Empress until my time comes. It's the best I can do in both the honor of my brother and this nation. My father would have brought it to ruins and planned to turn against America to side with North China. That would've been our downfall. He was stopped before it was possible, gladly." she said, finishing her statement and looking at the gaurd who stared back at her.

They looked into each others eyes. "I'm nearly eighteen. Despite my intelligence and understanding of strategies, history, and other various things, I feel I'm not to be Empress. This doesn't mean I will abdicate the position, though. I just wished to tell another person. I keep up a facade to make sure no one sees my doubts, but it's tiring. Hopefully, the doubts will subside with time. Hopefully, you'll listen to all my thoughts that I wish to share with only you?" she finished, returning her gaze to him as it wandered off while she was talking. He nodded, and she nodded back as well. "Anything, Empress." he said. She smiled at the final formality. They rose from the ground and he escorted her from the garden back into the palace.

The future I envision between our nations contains cooperation on three main points, being science, free exchange of people and products, and close military cooperation. Allow me to briefly elaborate on each area;

- The Imperial Federation and the United States have some of the largest democratic populations and free economies in the world. If we encourage such initiatives like tariff reduction, student exchange, and complete visa-free travel, we can streamline our exchanges to the benefit of both our nations, and in doing so, we not only strengthen ourself, but we buy from a fellow democratic nation, which will use the profit to do right, and not for the self-gain of a ruling class in a grotesque autocracy.

- Technologically, the brightest minds of the United States will surely benefit from knowledge in the Imperial Federation, and vice versa. The unique geography here in Infiny allows for geological research unavailable anywhere on earth, much like the United States has some of the world's most stunning biodiversity. I'm potentially exploring more research on Antarctica and space to further our understanding of the universe around us.

- Militarily, we can't help but recognize the existential threat that a totalitarian ideology poses and seeks to impose. Its attempted expansion is inherent in its nature, and we have to always be ready for any kind of assault or attempt to spread its ideology at the expense of our free citizens. The Imperial Federation is not ready. We are looking to build up our naval capabilities, mainly our battleships, battlecruisers, submarines, and potentially even aircraft carriers, as well as increase our shipyard capability. Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland

Maj. General Irving Morrell watched as the Grant finished the last batch of testing before it stopped several yards away from him. As he walked towards, the crew of the tank started to climb out from their assigned spots and noticed him approaching. Waving off their salutes, he spoke to the tank commander, a young Lieutenant

"Well Lt. Marks, how does she handle? Is she good for service?"

The Lieutenant, a newly minted officer from West point, had a smirk on his face as he replied

"Sir, begging your pardon for speaking plainly but the beauty.." patting the side of the turret as he faced Morrell "Would run circles around the old Glasgow, no doubt about it. She's better armed, faster and offers more protection than the older models. Plus with all the latest sensors and the new HUD in the Commander's Cupola, I could shoot the a** off a flea at 5 miles without killing it. Hell, I could likely give a haircut to some poor SOB at the same range."

Morrell, laughing a bit at the candor the young Lieutenant was showing, changed tactics

"So you feel the Grant is ready for full-scale production or are the any issues you and your crew haven't found yet?"

Lt. Marks shook his head before replying

"I'd like to say it's more than ready Sir but I want to make sure we've uncovered all the issues so I'd say another month or so and she'll be ready to go into production."

Morrell nodded in agreement

"That's exactly what I want to hear Lieutenant. Better to be sure we get everything uncovered instead of finding out the hard way in battle. take at least 3 months to finish up Lt. Marks and then we can go from there."

Marks saluted as he stood up from the turret

"Yes Sir General. I'll get right on it after chow if need be"

Morrell returned the salute as the crew left to go to the mess hall, still lightly chuckling to himself

PRESIDENT STAUFFER ACKNOWLEDGES SACKING OF BOSNIA

In a TV interview earlier today, President Emilie Stauffer became the first Danubian Leader in history to acknowledge the sacking of Bosnia, a prolonged period of genocide and settlement in Bosnia occurring in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, involving the forced displacement and slavery of hundreds of thousands of Bosnian Muslims and the colonization of former Bosnian lands by Austrian Germans, Hungarians and a local Slavic collaborationist regime which had largely governed the region until the end of the second world war. Even today, Bosnian Muslims remain an endangered culture in Bosnia and were never able to recover to their former population.

In the interview with the A Szabadság news cooperative in Budapest, President Stauffer extended a complete apology on behalf of Danubia to the Bosnian Muslim Community and promised that under her administraion and the socialist unity party, there would be no repeat of the centuries of crimes, genocide and oppression committed by the former government from Austria-Hungary to the "United Empires". She Promised that she would work with the Leadership of the South Slavian Socialist Republic to introduce new protections to the Bosnian Muslim community as well as ensure them representation in the government of the JSSR.

Historically, the Danubian Government has been extremely defensive on this issue and has been repeatably known to deny the existence of this genocide despite both internal and international pressure against this policy. With this in mind the acknowledgement of this genocide by the socialist unity party is a landmark event in what appears to be a series of social reforms launched by stauffer, who as a professor of social sciences at the University of Vienna was consistently and frequently involved in many different movements of this nature.

The move has been praised by many across the Danubian South as President Stauffer continues to push her policy of creating a new Danubia that could truly call itself a confederation of equals, compared to the Austro-Hungarian dominated politics of the past; where the interests of regions such as the south would be cast aside in order to appeal to the more influential electorate of the developed North. With the JSSR now building itself around key Stauffer Ally and former mayor of Split, Kende Boldizar, many citizens of the south look forward to their future under the new administration.

Valeria: Most excellent, your Excellency, I'm overjoyed to hear that you share much of my vision. There is one additional thing I should mention before we end this great meeting. In our opposition to the autocrats, we've found that it's little use to organize ourselves through alliances or leagues, they are most efficient at tearing those apart. I believe it is optimal that we formalize the agreement without any particular name, more of a shared commitment. That way, it will be much harder to organize for them. They can't organize efficiently against something that is not immediately clear to the naked eye!

Moscow — The response from the Romanov government was forwarded to the Office of the Foreign Minister, Comrade Sokolov, who was personally overseeing the efforts to re-establish and normalize relations with Romanovskaya. A response was sent to their Foreign Ministry soon after.

To: Viktor Volkov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romanovskaya
From: Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Subject: Soviet-Romanov Summit

Honorable Minister Volkov,

Your letter gives me and my Ministry hope for the future of our relations. As you mentioned, one hundred years ago the Russian people were split by ideology. Many families were separated and immense pain was abound. Although our Revolution and subsequent People's Project has undoubtedly increased the standards of living of the Russian people, it must be acknowledged that some mistakes were made during the Revolution of 1917. With war, starvation and destruction constantly knocking on the Russia people's door, the worst of human nature was propelled forward to the front seat during those tumultuous years. We hope to turn the page and begin a new chapter in our relations that let's our people live in peace and friendship.

We gracefully accept your invitation and agree with your suggested meeting place. Our delegation will be headed by myself and will be composed of other Foreign Ministry officials who will help me in this coming summit. We look forward to meeting you and to starting a new era in our diplomatic relations.

Warm regards,

Viktor Sokolov
Minister of Foreign Relations

ROMANOVAN-SOVIET SUMMIT

Roshchino, Vyborgsky District, Romanovskaya

Dozens of journalists stood waiting at the Romanovan-Soviet border in Roshchino today for the highly anticipated summit between the Romanov and Soviet foreign ministries. At 9:55am, the Soviet motorcade arrives at the border. Romanovan Border Guards opened the gates and allowed the motorcade through. Security as very high, to protect both the Romanovan and Soviet delegations. The motorcade drove up to a large house close to the border where the summit was to be held.

Romanovan Foreign Minister, Viktor Volkov, stood at the top of the steps of the entrance to the house. As the Soviet foreign minister stepped out of his car, Volkov made his way down the steps to greet him. The two men shook ands and exchanged some words. Photographers surrounded the two men as they then walked to the top of the stairs together. Once at the top they turned and shook hands once more, posing for photographs to document this historic moment.

The two men and a number of officials make their way inside the house. The house itself is decorated with ornate furniture, most of it dating from the 19th century. The delegations take their seats at the old dining room. A large, long oak table simply decorated with a Soviet and Romanovan flag is placed in the middle. The delegations take their seats, sitting facing each other.

Viktor Volkov: Minister Sokolov, I wish to formally welcome you and your staff here to Romanovskaya. I am sure you will agree that a meeting of this nature is long overdue. In fact you may or may not be aware, but you are the first Soviet minister to visit Romanovskaya in any official capacity and for that we thank and congratulate you.

Moscow — The letter from the Anzoanian Government was seen by many in the Foreign Ministry as a great opportunity to create a new friendship in South America and establish important economic ties that are mutually beneficial to the peoples of both countries. A response was sent right away.

From: Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Subject: Soviet-Anzoanian Summit

Honorable Minister Garcia,

We are humbled and elated to receive your letter for the establishment of trade and further diplomatic relations. As we look forward to growing our economy and working with other nations across the world to improve the living standards of the many, we see your letter as the perfect opportunity to accomplish this and even more. The Kremlin believes that strong economic ties among our nations would be hugely beneficial: We both sit at areas of the world where agriculture and mining can provide the ticket to that economic development billions dream of. Likewise, our locations in the world make us uniquely vulnerable to the negative impacts of global warming. Cooperation in creating a new model of economic development and growth that is friendly with the environment is of the utmost importance. We hope that we can further discuss this when our delegations meet in Santiago.

To further strengthen our bilateral relations, we graciously accept your invitation to further solidify our diplomatic ties through the establishment of embassies. Our Foreign Ministry will find a suitable location in the Diplomatic Quarter of Moscow, at your discretion, so that Anzoania can open an embassy. We would like to humbly request if a Soviet embassy is also allowed to be established in Santiago. If allowed, we will appoint Dr. Visily Grachev as our ambassador to your nation.

Warm regards,

Viktor Sokolov
Minister of Foreign Relations

The speech by Wukrä Neiüm was cut short a week ago, beacuse the leader of the republic had to go and visit a hospital for kids. The Taradrusian Navy dispatched a large team of Researchers,Scientists and Naval Experts aboard the HMATS Tangaroa into the Tasman sea off the coast of New Plymouth this past weekend. The sudden operation was only just revealed to the public however researchers and Taradrusian scientists have been calling for such an investigation for years. The research involved trying to find further information on the enormous sea shelf Albus Taradrus and local Oceania islands lay on.

The Team mostly consisted of professors and lead researchers from Auckland University, alongside some of the best researchers in the nation and world. The team was dispatched to learn more not only about the contents of the shelf, but its movements and how rising sea levels are affecting it. The Auckland based research group previously drilled deep into the continental sized shelf, revealing it had been rising over the last 50 million years, alluding to the possibility that over the course of millions of years, the area would start to reveal more islands. The group also used the time to collect information on how the warming waters and how rising sea levels are changing reefs, weather patterns, and the local sea life.

About 93% of the shelf is submerged yet only a few thousand meters (around 1-2 miles) are underwater. The area is considered the largest microcontinent, with an estimated area of 1.9 million square miles. Understanding this area could vastly alter Albus Taradruses EEZ borders and the definition of international waters. The area consists of pockets of underground resources such as copper, nickel, iron and cobalt as well as crude oil and if eligible it could bring new economic openings for the small country. However the chance for a large scale mining operation is unlikely due to the prominent eco-friendly populace and government. If the Constitution Partes can revive its former glory, it's possible the laws set by the Green Partes could be redacted.

The Auckland based research group has not released any public information on the tests done and the findings. However, it is rumored they will release a large statement on their findings in the coming weeks, and address possible concerns abroad and within the government. This landmark study is important in Albus Taradrus understanding their homeland, the resources under them, and the possibility for expanding mining operations in the Tasman Sea and South Pacific.

Presidential Election Nominations Begin

While the election itself is months away, campaigns have begun springing up amongst some parties in Lanfang as the nation gears up for the upcoming Presidential election in less than 6 months.

So far, the Democratic Labour Party has announced the Hon. Fawz Salmaan, East List MP and Minister of Science and Technology as it’s candidate for President, listing his technical expertise and the need to represent Lanfang’s minorities in the nation’s highest office. Likewise, the Constitutional Democratic Party has announced Wanjin List MP, former CDP leader, and Minister of Business, Innovation, and Enterprise Suriya Gajesh as it’s candidate. Both candidates have announced that they plan to resign from the Cabinet in the coming weeks, as they agreed it would be inappropriate to be running against each other while both participating in the Government.

The only other party to announce a candidate at this point in the Lanfang Green Party, which announced it’s co-leader, Wanjin City-based environmental activist Asmika Aaryan, as it’s candidate.

While nominations are still pending from the Lanfang Nationalist Party, New People’s Party, Lanfang Communist Party, and Islamic People’s Party, there has been much speculation that Shadow Home Minister (and former Foreign Minister) Sanjay Prasad Kamesh is the favorite for the LNP nomination.

While the presidency itself is a largely ceremonial role in the Westminister executive model, the president can nonetheless play an important role in coalition forming in hung parliaments and represents the nation abroad at ceremonial functions.

Incumbent President Michael Chiam Teck of the Lanfang Nationalist Party is unable to run for re-election as he has reached his two-term limit.
