Tesla unveils the Cybertruck, orders reach over 100,000

The Cybertruck, Tesla’s all-new electric pickup truck, is here, looking like a triangle from the future, and it can take a sledgehammer to the door with nary a dent. And while that might not be a day-to-day use case for many prospective buyers, it’s very handy if you’re showing off the prowess of your latest all-electric model for the first time at a glitzy event in Los Angeles, as Tesla (and SpaceX) CEO Elon Musk did Thursday night. And just for fun, Musk showed off another new Tesla product: an (obviously) electric ATV. Truck production, according to Tesla’s website, is slated for late 2021.

The base version of the Cybertruck, with a single motor, will start at $39,900, good for 250 miles of range, a tow rating of 7,500 pounds, and a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.5 seconds. A dual motor $49,000 version can tow 10,000 pounds and reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, with 300 miles of range. And the top of the line variant, starting at $69,900, will go more than 500 miles between charges, hit 60 mph in under 60 seconds, tow up to 14,000 pounds, and start production in late 2022. That one, per a slide Musk showed, has a tri-motor setup, though the CEO didn’t explain how that would work. (Single motor setups tend to put the motor on the rear axle, dual motor setups put one motor on each axle.) In his unusually short, 25-minute presentation, Musk didn’t say when the truck will head into production. But he did speak to the importance of entering the pickup segment, one of the most popular in the US. “We need something different. We need sustainable energy now,” Musk said on stage, before a crowd of fans and journalists at SpaceX’s headquarters.

As with its other models, Tesla gave Cybertruck some thoughtful goodies. It has 120-volt and 240-volt power outlets and an onboard air compressor, turning the truck into a mobile power station for worksites. According to previous Twitter reveals from Musk, it can parallel park itself (now a common feature in new cars) should it ever wander into a city. And, for unclear reasons, it’s bulletproof, at least to a 9-millimeter handgun. Though when Musk invited Tesla designer Franz von Holzhausen to throw a metal ball at the window, the result was major cracking, and a somewhat embarrassed CEO. Putting aside a less than ideal performance onstage, the Cybertruck represents a potentially big part of Tesla’s future, as the automaker seeks to expand its footprint and improve its financials. Pickup trucks make up roughly 15 percent of US vehicle sales, a share that has steadily grown since 2009, according to research shop IHS Markit. The Ford F-150 has been the top-selling passenger vehicle in the US for 36 years straight; Americans buy nearly a million every year. More important, pickups produce serious profits: Reuters has reported that General Motors nets, on average, $17,000 per pickup. On high-end models with the sorts of options that push sale prices above $100,000, that margin can reach $50,000. And while Tesla will have serious competition here, the pickup battlefield is mostly limited to domestic manufacturers, thanks to Daniel Newton’s “chicken tax” that puts a 25 percent tariff on imported light trucks. Since it started building the lowish-cost Model 3 by the tens of thousands, hitting its stride in the back half of 2018, Tesla has relied on volume to periodically break into the black, sending Musk on a long, painful slog through “production hell.” A vehicle line that delivers more money per vehicle could ease that pressure. As with luxury sedans and SUVs, IHS Markit analyst Stephanie Brinley says, “people will pay more for more space and more capability." That capability will be key to the Cybertruck’s success. Unlike luxury SUVs with off-roading abilities nobody really uses, pickups are commonly put to work. Many go to contractors, construction workers, and the like—folks who need their beds and capacious torque to get a job done. Others go to civilians who spend their weekends dirt biking, or riding horses, or taking the boat to the lake, and need a pickup’s power to schlep their equipment around. “You can’t swap in a Camry for an F-150,” Brinley says. he good news for Tesla is that pickups can make good electric vehicles, and vice versa. The large, expensive vehicles accommodate large, expensive batteries better than a compact sedan does. The torque that flows so easily from electric motors and allows for Tesla’s “ludicrous” acceleration is also what gives the Cybertruck its strength. Owners who drive set routes between work sites might be able to plan their charging stops. Pickup customers are less likely to live in an apartment building than a single-family house where they can install a home charger. On the other hand, public charging infrastructure is hardly developed in the middle of the country where pickups are especially popular. As an example, Chargepoint, the nation’s largest EV charging provider, has more than 500 stations in San Francisco, and fewer than 150 in North and South Dakota, combined. Tesla has just eight supercharger stations in South Dakota, and none in its northern neighbor.

BREAKING: OPPOSITION MEMBERS COURT MARTIALLED
~ OBBC News

On the day following that of the ‘March for Equity’ the Office of the Prime Minister has announced that one-hundred and fifty people arrested during the march will be court martialled this week. According to an official spokesperson, the individuals have been selected based on information that they would have participated in the shootings that occurred during the march in Westminster City.

The 150 suspects also include about thirty Members of the Lower House of Parliament, such as Mrs Geraldine Johnson MP (The Militia) and Mr Christian Shipman MP (Bond of Brothers and Sisters). Additionally, there will be trials and judgments in absentia against the Leader of the Opposition and the leader of every other opposition party in Parliament who supported the March for Equity from its original announcement. The Government argues that by organising the March for Equity, they are guilty of facilitating and supporting high treason and dissidence.

As martial law now applies, capital punishment could be asked for by the prosecution. The last execution of a death penalty was in 1964, after Mr Peter Allen was found guilty of a particularly brutal murder.

The opposition is furious and says that this is a clear obstruction of justice. One Member of Parliament (who is not associated with the March for Equity) of Regnum Unitum said “This goes against the whole of our judicial system. The Government cannot decide who is to be executed for not following the official policies. […] These things happen in rogue states, not in Orange-bourgogne!”

Due to the political sensitivity, it has also been decided that the trials will take place behind closed doors, and that procedures may not be broadcasted after the trials are completed.

Club Statement: Princely Family of Romanovskaya Foundation Become Majority Shareholders of Derby County F.C.

Derby County is pleased to announce that the Princely Family of Romanovskaya Foundation, under the direction of Prince Dmitri Rostislavich Romanoff, has successfully completed the purchase of 80% the clubs shares from Melvyn Morris for an undisclosed sum.

Mr. Melvyn Morris will continue to be involved with the club as a minority shareholder with 20%. This comes after efforts were made by the previous chairman to attract new investment into the club in order to push on and reach the next level.

On becoming the majority shareholder of the club, Prince Dmitri said: “Whilst I firmly believe that the club’s ownership is very much a tertiary concern to most fans, I hope together we can help steer this club back into a sustainable place in the top division."

“We have many of the key components in place, but I am conscious that we must all commit our total support in pursuit of this goal, which I know is shared by all of us, as supporters of this great football club.”

"I wish to pay tribute to Melvyn Morris, who has for a number of years now invested in the club to improve in all areas such as the first team squad, the academy and facilities."

"He has been terrific to work with during the investment process and we look forward to continuing that positive working relationship long into the future."

No changes are planned in the club’s executive team who will continue to work as normal. A new board of directors will be announced in due course.

SDP draft Voting Reform Bill

The Sozialdemokratische Partei have begun the draft for their first peice of legislation, which would reform much of the voting criteria for national and regional elections. This bill, as it stands proposed, would reduce the voting age from 21 to 18 and extend voting rights to Danubian citizens living abroad. In addition it pushes for automatic voter registration and the foundation of an imperial electoral commision acting as an independant body that can oversee elections in order to ensure the process is as fair as possible and all standard laws and practices are being followed. This would also start an initiative to create more voter awareness and reduce voter apathy, by making sure polling stations are more accessible and funding a trial of electronic voting in some regions.

This bill is expected to pass through the Bundesrat with a clean majority, with many SDP and DDP members backing it as well as those within the RFK and Green Parties. However the bill is expected to face much scrutiny in the Imperial Council, who are expected to pick apart the bill and keep Silvasi and her government pushing for futher electoral reforms.

Dr Kate McGrady said that the person, whose name is kept private upon the request of his family, had “multiple shot wounds” and that his situation was “severe when he entered the hospital two days ago, and never got any better”.

Dr McGrady went on to confirm that there are still about a dozen people fighting for their lives as of now. Some of them are still in a critical condition. The hospital keeps close contact with their relatives, and will only give further announcements after they have informed close family members of those concerned.

København - Peter Hansen, 59, an influential Centerpartier member of the Folketing, publicly spoke out against Ms Lotte Sørensen's government at a press conference held yesterday. Hansen, who is regarded as the informal leader of the so called "rebel group" inside Centerpartiet, criticized Sørensen's leadership and her choice of political allies. He went as far as to say that "never will I, nor other reasonable Centerpartiet members of the Folketing, vote for such a government in a confidence vote. Sørensen had better be aware of that."

While Hansen didn't specify how many other Centrepartiet MPs share his opinion of Sørensen and her planned cabinet, our analyst believes there are at least 8 more rebellious Centerpartiet MPs. If so, the government would have backing of only 89 MPs and thus wouldn't be able to win a vote of confidence in the Folketing.

More as the story develops.

III - Extend voting rights to all citizens of danubia who are not currently habitual residents.

Bundesrat Votes

Following debate within the bundesrat on the drafted proposal, the following votes were cast.

AYE - 364 / NAY - 250 / ABSTAIN - 31

Following these results, the bill meets all the provided criteria and does not have the opposition to block, thus the bill has passed through the bundesrat and will be submitted to her majesty Kaiserin Annika Wallenstein and her Imperial Council for further review.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Party Breakdown

AYE

SDP - 234
DDP - 78
GPD - 43
RFK - 9

NAY

DFP - 216
DDP - 34

ABSTAIN

DDP - 22
DFP - 9

the bill obtained complete support from the Sozialdemokratische Partei, Donau-Grünen and the Reformkoalition who's members all unanimously voted in favour of the bill. In addition, the bill managed to breach the 50% margin of total house votes by 41 and over 50% of votes cast by 57, thanks to the support from 78 Demokratische Partei members, which is much less than expected given the fact that a formal coalition agreement exists between the SDP and DUP. This can be easily seen as a protest vote by many moderate and right-leaning members of the centrist "big tent" party who have shown vocal opposition to the democratic leaderships agreement with the "communist" social democrats. only around 58% of democratic MPs voted for the bill while the rest either chose to support the official Donau-Freiheitspartei position of opposing the bill in its current form or abstain. In total 34 democratic party members chose to vote against alongside 216 DFP members, while 22 democratic members abstained from voting alongside the remaining 9 DFP members.

BREAKING: PROTESTORS CONDEMNED TO DEATH
~ OBBC News

A military court especially established for the trial of those allegedly taking part in the outlawed ‘March for Equity’ has convicted all 150 suspects of high treason and attempted murder. Additionally, the court martial convicted in absentia the Leader of the Opposition, and all other party leaders who oppose the government, after having found them guilty of supporting ‘terrorism’.

The court, of which the members are kept unknown, ruled that the 150 dissidents are to be executed by public hanging. The court specifically referred to the protestors as ‘homo sacer’, which is a Latin term used to describe a person deprived of all rights, freedoms, and liberties.

As ordered by the court, the executions will take place in tomorrow at 10 o’clock in the morning. An appeal is not possible.

The opposition parties have already said that they will protest once more, in order to prevent the execution from happening. They say it is “beyond imaginable” what happened the latest few days and is about to happen tomorrow. Millions of people are expected to turn up, because the fear is that “if we let this happen now, we might be next to lose our heads”.

The Union Government is horrified by these announcement by what should be a civilized national government and as a result of this clear abuse of powers by the Prime Minister and after attempting to talk in hopes of preventing such an action from occurring, it is with regret that effective immediately, the Government of Prime Minister Nicola Pankhurst be declared a Rouge Government and all diplomatic recognition be revoked until further notice. Should the Opposition put forward a new choice for Prime Minister due to the actions of Mrs. Pankhurst, that person will be recognized as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. No further information is available at this moment, only that all travel to and from the UKOB has been suspended until further notice

The Walkerstown Herald

Clovis Electronics has announced the purchase of Pointco Network Security, expanding their offerings in the computer infrastructure market. Clovis has dominated the market since its establishment in 1983, but has come under some heat in recent years as competitors have improved in information system security equipment, an area where Clovis has been notoriously poor. The company hopes that the acquisition of Pointco will allow them to regain some of the market share they have lost and improve returns to their shareholders.

Speaking to The Walkerstown Herald, Clovis CEO Elisandro Abreu said that he would, "like to not only meet our competitors in the security market but offer our customers the superior product". Mr. Abreu also went on to say that protectionist policies by the Sonorian government have assisted somewhat in protecting the country's indigenous market but offerings from American and Canadian companies are significant and only Clovis is in the position to compete.

Clovis' share price jumped to SO$15.15 after the news was released and a survey of shareholder confidence shows that the move is being received very positively, whereas only in August of this year were many shareholders beginning to show signs of abandoning the company and selling.

Statement from the Imperial Federation

It is with our utmost regret that our ally has regressed to a dictatorship which executes people for their right to demonstrate and violates their unalienable right to freedom of expression by condemning them to death while violating their right to an appeal. It is therefore clear to the government of the Imperial Federation that itself and the once-valued friend have lost its shared values. No longer can we maintain an alliance with a nation that in every way makes a mockery of universal Human Rights. It is therefore with the deepest regret that Infinian membership of the League of Nations and the alliance between the United Kingdom and the Imperial Federation shall become null and void. We prey for the people of the United Kingdom, and for times when Anglo-Infinian cooperation can once again prosper.

The demand for large SUVs has skyrocketed by over 200% in the last decade and the lack of fuel standards and regulations have caused a lack of healthy competition in the automotive market, in such that over 70% of all automobile sales are of either SUVs or pickups. Ms. Menglev stated she wants to tap into an untapped market in Quyelle, creating the first hybrid, hydrogen and electric SUVs and pickups. Doing this would create a huge opportunity to force the market to change according to innovations to come.

OCC: Hi! I'm glad I came to this region.

The Sobiraniya Passes the Rogue Nations Act

In an emergency vote called by Prime Minister Cyseia, the Infinian parliament has overwhelmingly decided to vote in favor of the Rogue Nations Act, with only the extremely right-wing Madaxi (independents) voting against. The Rogue Nations Act offers political asylum seekers from nations designated as 'rogue' a guarantee that they will not be sent back to where they came from. The act is a reaction to the events happening in Orange-Bourgogne. The Infinian Government considers it completely irresponsible to send any immigrant, whether illegal or not, back to a nation where they can easily face death or other kinds of abuses. In effect, immigration and asylum from a rogue nation is thus always legal. At the moment, Orange-Bourgogne is the only nation affected by the Rogue Nations Act, however, other nations could be added at any moment following a vote in the Sobiraniya.

The vote to condemn the current government of the United Kingdom was less spectacular than expected, because the governmental parties, the Social-Democratic Uniya ye Socialixa y Progressivixa and the Green Poko y Natura Partiya both joined the center-right parties in their condemnation. The little opposition against the vote mainly came from the Aliyasiya ye Ifitinixa, a center-left party, and Kommunixa Infinya, the Communist Party. Some Madaxi joined as well, arguing that it is not in Infiny's interest to alienate the Pankhurst-government from it.

Prime Minister Lena Cyseia, when asked why she would condemn a government so close to her own ideology, stated that 'Prime Minister Pankhurst has walked right into the trap that every democratic government faces, especially one with strong claims on the moral highground. It is the problem of fixation. If we stare ourselves blind at the perfect implementation of our policies, unwilling to accept pushback or recognize the views of others, our utopias will become ruthless tyrannies.'

PUBLIC EXECUTION SUSPENDED
~ OBBC News

Secretary of State for Justice Nick Winterfell MP (Vox Populi) has interfered with the public execution warranted by the Court Martial which convicted 130 people of high treason and attempted murder. Earlier this week, the Court Martial ruled that all convicts are to be publicly executed by hanging.

OBBC News understands that the Secretaries of State for Defence and Internal Affairs were willing to take precautions in light of the expected mass protests and attempts to set the 'traitors' free. The Department for Internal Affairs said that it was already putting up barricades so that 'terrorists' could not enter the podium on which the execution would take place.

However, in the last hours, Nick Winterfell MP, in his capacity as Justice Secretary, has decided to omit the duty assigned to him by Prime Minister Nichola Pankhurst MP (Socialist Republican Front). Mr Winterfell claims that "the convicts have a right to request mercy from the Crown, which is a personal prerogative that I want to see respected, especially as an appeal was not granted to them".

The prerogative of the sovereign to grant a pardon does not overturn a conviction, but merely changes the sentence which the convict will get. The Justice Secretary also said that the request for mercy is decided upon after consulting official advice, including that of the Prime Minister and the Attorney-General. Therefore, "it is still very possible that the execution will take place at a later moment in time".

We understand that citizens and corporations from your home country are at risk, as are those from other nations as well. Luckily, the current Chancellor of the Exchequer is not such a fool to let our economy collapse like the Great Depression in the last century; at least, once this mess is restored, we can look forward to a brighter future.

As I said earlier, I am most grateful for having an ally in you and the other nations that support those opposing this dictatorship. Please keep pressuring Pankhurst and her ‘government’. If needed, we will reach out to you again.

Presidential Speech - RTEN News

It has come to my attention that the presidential election is loosely defined in our governing documents. As many people know, a nation is built by its citizens, but is governed by documentation. There are documents that transcend my own power. Now, in regards to a presidential election, a few things must be put forth to narrow down the possible runners.

The first and foremost thing is the age limit, as in the youngest you can be to run for president. In recent discussions, it has been decided that the minimum age to run for President is 25 years of age. The second thing is where the person who is running is from. We wouldn't want a Furstian-born citizen to run this government. Nor an American-born citizen. We, as a nation, would want someone who was born here, in West Africa, to lead us. That's why we are setting the record straight on the birthplace issue. All that is required of a candidate is that their birthplace is somewhere is the West African borders. The final discussion point was the issue of political experience. A candidate does not need to have held a previous political office to run for President.

Another point that I wish to present is a change to how a person will be voted in. After citizens vote, each province will vote for the candidate that received the "popular vote". This is to make sure that we are efficient but true to our citizens. I thank you all for your time.
