THRONE ROOM, IMPERIAL PALACE, TOKYO, JAPAN
Empress Akiiyo sat on the throne and was looking down at General Shimada who was kneeling before her. "You have requested for me, your Highness?" he asked with his head lowered. Silence filled the room for a quick moment. "I have, General." she answered. General Shimada rose and looked at Empress Akiiyo. "What do you wish to speak to me about, ma'am?" he asked.
"How loyal would you say your men are?" she asked. General Shimada was stunned by this question, but answered quickly. "They are extremely loyal. They are loyal to the throne." he answered. Empress Akiiyo nodded at him. She rose from her position and stepped down to General Shimada. "Are you sure, General?" she asked, getting closer to him. He quickly nodded as she approached. "V-very loyal, your Highness." he said, nervously.
She stopped and looked at him and smirked before turning around. "I wouldn't be so sure of that. However, I may be wrong in my assumptions." she said. "General, I want you to screen every soldier you have. Those who are not fully loyal to the Japanese Empire will be purged of rank and promptly executed. I do not care what their rank is, either. Disloyalty will not be tolerated." she continued. He was shocked at her order. "With all due respect, ma'am, that could possibly hurt the strength of our military." he voiced in concern. She turned around before the throne to face him. "Yes, it could. It could also find that all of our soldiers are as loyal as they claim to be." she said. General Shimada hesitated, but nodded. "As you wish, your Highness." he said.
She turned around and walked up to the throne and sat down. "Wait until after the Olympics have passed. We can't let this getting out to the public. It would ruin our image. Once it's complete, we can recruit new soldiers to fill the vacancies made and we can make sure they are completely loyal." she said. General Shimada nodded, then bowed, then walked out of the throne room.

Where International Diplomacy, Power Politics, and Current Events Meet!
Japan National Stadium, Tokyo
The stadium bustled with activity and the chatter of countless languages, over 80,000 individuals from nations across the world, all congregated in a single spot together despite their differences, to cheer on the athletes of their nations and encourage good sportsmanship and camaraderie among competitor nations. Without warning the lights in the stadium flipped off leaving the thousands of spectators in the dark, their chattering ceasing almost instantaneously. Everyone waited in silence for what seemed to be ages until a single spotlight shone on the stadium's field below, showcasing a single person. Beautiful choreography and music ensued, with numerous people joining, a variety of props and light-work in tandem to help tell the story of the people of Japan. The crowd cheered during climatic moments in Japanese history, the music and scenes becoming more intense as time went on with the audience responding equally until eventually it ceased. The lights dimmed and fog filled the stage, providing the people on the field a chance to leave as a single platform rose with a single individual, the flag of Japan being silently hoited behind her when overheard came a triad of voices.
"Mesdames et messieurs, veuillez vous lever pour l'hymne national japonais. Ladies and gentleman, please stand for the Japanese national anthem. ご列席の皆様、日本国歌をお願いします."
The individual bathed in the spotlight with fog swirling at her feet began to perform the "Kimigayo" Japanese national anthem as the flag unfurled and fluttered behind her as the stadium stood in silent respect until she had finished. As the lights dimmed, a more upbeat electronic type of music began to play, increasing slowly in volume around the stadium as the voices overheard boomed yet again.
"Mesdames et messieurs, nations du monde, bienvenue aux Jeux olympiques d'été de Tokyo 2020! Ladies and gentleman, nations of the world, welcome to the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics! 世界各国の皆様 2020 年東京オリンピックへようこそ!"
Suddenly, the field was illuminated yet again in its entirety, a whole new layout formed as the path of the parade of nations was put up during the national anthem, and the parade had already begun according to the Japanese alphabet with the very first nation walking out onto the field waving their banner.
"Veuillez souhaiter la bienvenue aux nations du monde aux Jeux olympiques d'été de Tokyo 2020 dans le défilé des nations! Please welcome the nations of the world to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in the Parade of Nations! パレード・オブ・ネイションズで開催される東京2020夏季オリンピックに世界各国をお迎えください!"
The parade of nations commenced at an upbeat pace until eventually all nations had entered the stadium and congregated onto the field into organized divisions by continent and nation, reflecting the world map made of people from their respective nations. The stadium's attention turned to the President of the Organizing Committee whom delivered her speech followed by the IOC President's. Last but certainly not least, the Japenese head of state, Empress Akiiyo delivered her speech and ended with, "ゲームを始めよう!" (Let the games begin!)
Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for had arrived as the Olympics Torch entered the Japan National Stadium and onto the field, passing from athlete to athlete, until it landed in the hands of a world renowned Japanese Olympian whom carried it towards the Olympic Cauldron, rising from the stadium floor. Surmounting the elevated pedestal upon which the Cauldron rested, he placed the Torch to the Cauldron and lit the flame, signalling the beginning of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
Training exercise: Operation Pyrrhus has begun
Commanding Vicintian forces for the exercise: General Zalim Malviya
Commanding Horn forces: Sahadeva Hyrieos
The role of the Golden Sun insurgents in this exercise is being undertaken by participating Dregan paramilitary units which employ similar tactics to insurgents.
4 am: First sighting of the Empire of the Horn's Carrier battle group. (Empire of the Horn is one of the fictional countries in which Vicintian forces face in training exercises). The carrier group is accompanied by an amphibious assault ship and an amphibious transport dock.
4:10 am:Golden Sun insurgents attack the Pidurutalagala radar station, guards manage to hold off the attack using delaying tactics, however the commanding officer on the scene reports they have taken casualties and will be overrun soon.
4:30 am: First wolfpack submarine group ordered to circle around the Horn's carrier group and attack supply ships attempting to resupply it. Special forces sent in helicopters to quickly reinforce Pidurutalagala, an attack helicopter has also been sent to provide air support. The Vicintian carrier group in Chennai is deemed not ready to set sail.
6am: Air force fighters and multi purpose fighters arrive in Sri Lanka and are prepped for interception and naval bombing. Anti ship missiles are transported to the coast mostly facing the East and North, where it is critical the Horn's forces must not be allowed to gain control. Anti air defences are also set up. Insurgents are pushed back with air support and reinforcements however 1 helicopter was shot down attempting to land around the radar station and one was shot down trying to lift off and head back to base. 12 special forces soldiers died in the crash.
10 am: Reported ambushes from patrols around Colombo, Kandy and Batticaloa. ETC of Horn carrier group to reach Vicintian waters is confirmed to be 5 days.
12 pm: Siege of Pidurutalagala radar station broken, however scattered remnants of insurgents remain on the mountain and remain a threat.
A message was sent to the four ships of the Furstian People's Navy:

Board of Revenues
The Board of Revenues has announced new import restrictions against coal, in a bid to regulate competition and encourage domestic growth.
Under the new restrictions, state-owned utility companies will be provided with strict quotas on where to source thermal coal from - separate quotas will be set for coal-producing countries, such as Australia or Russia, in a bid to regulate competition and ensure that any prospective foreign coal exporters can receive a fair share in the Qing market.
The domestic coal industry is a huge employer but it is also heavily indebted, something which the government seeks to rectify by imposing such quotas. These quotas are expected to increase domestic productivity by capping individual foreign imports, which can provide local coal companies with a chance to compete more fairly. The new foreign import quota is pegged at 22.00 million tonnes of coal, with the maximum amount of coal exports from a singular country capped at 3.6 million tonnes of coal.
Joan B. Kennedy Re-Elected for Second Term as President
After having the highest average rating for a presidential term, Joan B. Kennedy won by an eighteen percent margin, against his opposition, Anthony Garcia
Joan B. Kennedy re-elected with 59 percent of the national vote
Anthony Garcia fell short with 41 percent of the national vote
His remarkable ratings in the past three years of his presidency is likely the result of significant economic expansion, reforms which has seen a 37.5 percent drop in poverty to 25 percent, down from 40 percent at the start of his first term. Among other things he has largely been perceived positively by Anzoanian public. The presidents will be sworn in for his second term in due course, 31st August.
In a speech the young 34 year old president he exclaimed his content with winning the election, vowing to virtually eliminate poverty in the nation, end political corruption, and outlaw ‘unethical discrimination’ towards indigenous people, stating “they are more than fifteen million of us”. Admitting that the Decency Act that was recently enacted, legalising same-sex marriage, and further ratifying already established anti discrimination laws, needed more work, and that further clauses that lawfully recognises and protects indigenous people, was essential in lowering crime in certain regions and he vowed to enact them as quickly as possible. He also expressed his intentions to establish programs that would gradually allow more robust tranquility, such as ensuring that those who are still in poverty can live healthy lives, in more than just ‘liveable homes’, he wittingly called for the ‘homely homes’ act which would house fellow citizens in actual homes distributed in different neighbourhoods, not one thousand shacks in a row in the poorest neighbourhood and made from local materials. Among other things he proposed a economic bill which should benefit small business and further structure the economy by reforming the Department of Business and Employment. Furthermore he discussed working with the fundamentally important agriculture sector to protect the environment, while ensuring that business prosperity is not compromised. He lastly confided that, “This will be a difficult thing to mitigate but optimistically speaking, its certainly possible with patience, it just takes you all.”

Jane Soh Pei-pei Resigns From Cabinet
Minister of Culture, Language, and Sport Jane Soh Pei-pei of the Constitutional Democratic Party has offered her resignation from the Cabinet to Prime Minister Lydia Lin over her failure to submit necessary registration for Lanfangese athletes to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.
Speaking with reporters, Ms. Soh said she had come to her decision after extensive talks with both the Prime Minister and with CDP Party Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Justin Chang, who all agreed it was best if she stepped down. “I accept that my error has caused lots of distress to many of Lanfang’s athletes, who had hoped to compete this year. I take full responsibility for my own actions as Minister. I also apologize to all the athletes who had wanted to compete and to the people of Lanfang, who will miss this opportunity on the international stage.”
The loss of Ms. Soh, the MP for Trafalgar, is a huge blow to the junior coalition partner Constitutional Democratic Party. Ms. Soh is one of the party’s most senior MPs and one of only three CDP MPs to hold a constituency seat (rather than a list seat).
Prime Minister Lydia Lin has appointed Education Minister Ibrahim Munsif of the Democratic Labour Party to assume duties as Minister of Culture, Language, and Sport in the interim until a forthcoming cabinet reshuffle.

Congress approves funding for summer research station on King George Island in Antarctica
A report from Congress has stated that funding for a second American research base in Antarctica has been approved and will be based on King George Island along Admiralty Bay at Copacabana Beach. Supplies will be shipped to the site so work can begin before the winter season begins later this year. The goal of the research base will be the study of Adélie
and Gentoo penguins as well the nearby Krill population in nearby waters. Also, a shipment of supplies to Matterson Station (RL McMurdo Station) has encountered a delay due to a storm in the South Atlantic and will now reach the southern-most human settlement in the world no later than next month or so barring any other delays. An expected time frame for completion of the summer base, which will be medium-sized but well equipped, is around 9 months to a year to be completed.
TO: The Office of the President of the United States, Ms. Rebecca Dawes.
FROM: The Infinian Ministry of Defense.
SUBJECT: Intensification of military cooperation.
It is with great worries about the modern geopolitical balance of the world that we contact you. Over the last years* we have seen an aggressive expansion of a tyrannical alliance that seeks little more than the expansion of their autocratic regimes over nations longing for freedom and democracy - the International Cooperation Council (ICC).
We have endeavored to gather democracies together to prevent tyranny from expanding - as is clear to many, we have failed. There is no organization that asserts national sovereignty and self-determination in a way that it can stand to the aggression of the ICC.
As nations bow in rows to military intimidation from particularly the USSR, the chief aggressive nation in our modern times, it is our sincerest belief that the defense of individual liberty and national self-determination falls to us both, the largest free democracies in the world.
But the Imperial Federation is far from ready to face up to the reality that it needs to enhance its military capabilities to protect not only herself but also its smaller sister democracies from the tyranny inherent in the International Cooperation Council.
It would, therefore, be our sincerest request to attract American investment into Infinian economic and military capabilities. We hope the United States can see that our vast nation has enormous possibilities that will - if harvested properly - provide defenses across the Indian Ocean and negate ICC pressure. The defense of the Atlantic and the Pacific can easily fall to the United States - Infiny has the perfect location to take the mantle as the defender of the Indian Ocean.
The Imperial Federation counts on your assistance in our challenging environment.
Share this information with no other government. For any future correspondence on the matter, please contact the Prime Minister, Ms. Lena Cyseia.
Encoded Reply from the Department of State and Office of the President
In the interest of both our nations, perhaps a meeting can be done to see what kind of investments and military aid can be given during these trying times. If possible, we can have such a meeting next month or at your earliest convenience if matters of state take up time.
Excellent. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense would be delighted to meet next month. We prefer this to be after the Federal Convention for bureaucratic reasons. We shall confirm the exact date and location soon.
Due to the ongoing winter season in the southern hemisphere, APF Limbe had to stop its engines before reaching the coast, as the sea ice prevented it from getting any closer to the continent and further navigation would represent a danger to the ship. Gathering outside on the deck, the crew of the ship bid their farewell to the members of the Furstian-Soviet Antarctic Expedition as they finished loading their supplies into the Vityaz vehicles.
Soon enough, an Mi-26 belonging to the Justiniano Rosso Antarctic Base approached the ship and one by one transported the vehicles onto firm land. Hours later, at 9:30 AM, greetings and cheers could be heard from the 23 people stationed there, as they gathered in a large central room with the 14 Furstians and 8 Soviets that would soon march over the cold land to fulfill their mission. The rest of the day was spent making final preparations on all necessary equipment, checking the status of the vehicles and stocking provisions.
A heavy storm raged throughout the night as a prelude of what was to come. At 6:00 AM, the base personnel cheered the expeditioners with encouraging speeches and smiles which were very much appreciated by the 22 men about to venture deeper into the continent on their own. No other station standing between the Furstian base and their objective. No other human beings to assist them. The South Pole awaits.
The engines came to life and the tracks rolled, moving the vehicles forward. Forming a straight line, and a new path as they traversed, the base personnel saw the lights of the three vehicles dissipating further and further away until they completely dissapeared into the uniform black background of the polar night.
Three satellite phones, one for each vehicle, were the only available means of contact with the rest of the world. Calls came in every 12 hours to verify the status of the expedition. The personnel of APF Limbe and the Rosso base were alert and ready to act to the best of their abilities if any unforseen circumstances made an urgent rescue operation necessary. But luckily, the reliable Soviet machines were especially designed for this kind of unforgiving terrain and had seen years of service in the Siberian Arctic landscape before.
After nearly 60 hours of journey, the positioning devices on the vehicles started to beep. The tracks stopped and the crews exited the vehicles. Out in the cold, with the moonlight shining over the orange coats, the Furstian-Soviet Antarctic Expedition knew that they had reached their goal, as handheld monitors marked "S 0º 00' 000''". After mutual greetings and embraces of comradeship, they made a call to the Rosso base.
"Base Rosso, adelante. Podemos confirmar, por mediciones de instrumentos, que la Expedición Antártica Furstiano-Soviética llegó al Polo Sur Geográfico."
Loud shouts of joy could be heard through the speaker of the satellite phone, lighting up smiles in each member of the expedition. But there was no time to lose, as weather could change drastically and there was still work to be done. After receiving congratulations for having completed their long journey, the men quickly unloaded supplies from the vehicles and started to assemble five huts* which would be interconnected and would serve as the rudimentary origin of the Cooperation (Cooperación/Kооперация) Antarctic Base.
Under the lights of the vehicles, flashlights and the moon the men worked incessantly carrying wooden frames, nails, insulation materials, unassembled beds, chairs and tables. Fortunately, the weather had been merciful enough to allow them to conclude their demanding task. A few meters nearby, outside the huts, was a concrete-made obelisk almost 2 meters high, which had been placed on the spot of the Geographic South Pole. Behind it, a sign with the names of the expedition members had been erected, and was flanked by two flagpoles from which the Soviet and Furstian flags flew.
As the newly-installed diesel generator provided electricity to the equipment, the expedition radioed the Rosso base communicating the resounding success of the Furstian-Soviet Antarctic Expedition and requesting further supplies and instructions.

New Equity Fines Established
A new system of fining has been implemented across Japan. The system is the "Equity Fine System". This system will do away with fixed fines and will substitute fixed fines with fines based on the offenders daily income. The EFS will be put into place for crimes such as: littering, speeding, loitering, soliciting, petty theft, and illegal parking (fire lanes, restricted areas).
The fines will be classified into two primary categories. The first category will only take a quarter of the offenders daily income. The crimes that will be listed under this category are: illegal parking, loitering, and soliciting. The second category will take half of the offenders daily income. The crimes that will be listed under this category are: littering, speeding, and petty theft.
The crimes will then be subject to a day value. These day values will multiply the cost. The day values differ between each listed crime. The specifics are listed below.
Loitering will have an automatic day value of 15. Each repeat offense will double the day value until the day value reaches a total of 120, or a fourth offense. A fifth offense will warrant jail time.
Soliciting will follow the same day value guidelines as loitering and will be the only crime that is similar.
Illegal parking will have an automatic day value of 30 and will double only once. A third offense will warrant the car to be towed and held for a number of days. A fourth offense will warrant jail time.
Littering will have an automatic day value of 35 and will double with each offense until a total day value of 188 is reached, or a third offense. A fourth offense will warrant jail time.
Petty theft will have an automatic day value of 50 and will double with each offense until a total day value of 200 is reached, or a third offense. A fourth offense will warrant jail time.
Speeding will have an automatic day value of 60 and will double until a total day value of 240 is reached, or a third offense. A fourth offense will warrant jail time.
To figure out a fine, an equation will be used. For the equation, "v" will equal the daily income of the offender, "c" will equal the primary category of the crime committed, and "d" will equal the day value imposed on the crime. An example is below:
If an offender commits a first offense of littering, and has a daily income total of $60, then:
Which would equal a total fine of: $1,050.
This fine system is to equally pressure citizens into not committing previously mentioned crimes.
