As I remember in origin they origin of the living dead (today "zombie" and vampire) were a bit mixed. The separation is "modern" in part thanks to cinema.

The mental image of Saruman and the Uruk-hai fleeing in terror as a main characters in a zombie survival is amazing!

Have you seen Steins;Gate 0? That's one of the point of the history with the Amadeus system.

Is Steins;Gate 0 actually good. I started watching it but couldn't get into it for some reason, been avidly watching NEON GENESIS EVANGELION whenever I get a chance.

I'm also really glad that Netflix reinstated Attack on Titan after they removed it because some pretty rediculous people claimed it was pro facism 😂🤣

Developments in the military sphere dominate the news today.

The heads of the Army and Air Force Material Development Commands returned from the Leonistiches Imperium today with a number of items purchased there. The most important are probably a pair of Illuminator type point defense lasers, which are more advanced and more powerful than our best directed-energy weapon. An extensive series of tests will be undertaken to evaluate the Illuminator's strengths, capabilities, and limitations, before a bid to purchase the complete technical package for the Illuminator is made. The initial purchase agreement included a pledge to not reverse engineer the weapon, though officials in Leonism acknowledged that some information would be gained simply by getting a close look at the device.

Recent events in Lazarus, including the emergence of Leonism as a major naval power, have prompted a review of doctrine concerning naval forces. Unsurprisingly, given the fact that we have no coastline and no direct access to the sea, no such doctrine was found. Nor, it seems, does the Air Force possess any sort of modern anti-ship weaponry. As a result, an invitation to tender was published, requesting arms manufacturers around Lazarus to submit proposals.

Because we are starting from scratch, no detailed requirements were specified. Instead, the Air Force asked for missiles capable of being launched from aircraft, at supersonic speeds. A minimum range of 100 nautical miles (185 km) was requested, along with the ability to fly at Mach 2 plus, in poor weather, at an altitude of 100 feet (30 m). Warhead weight was listed as "at least 550 pounds (250 kg)", suggesting that one or more variants of whatever missile is adopted will carry nuclear warheads.

The Imperium is glad to help Loftegen with the sale of two Illuminator class 5 MW Lasers. With a range of 15 km and pinpoint accuracy, the Illuminator is a cutting edge weapon system mainly used for point defense against incoming warheads and aircraft. Recent combat experience has shown that use against land-based targets is also a tactical option that the designers had not envisioned.

A problem for non-imperial users might be the enormous energy requirement. Maybe Loftegen would also like to buy small scale nuclear fusion reactors from us?

Note that the Imperium does not export these weapons and technologies freely. Loftegen 2 has gained our trust through the joint fight against the NLO terrorists and our cooperation treaty. Other nations interested in Imperial equipment should take note.

No, please continue. It brings me back when I was studying for university access exam and I have for Biology to memorize the Calvin cycle, and the whole process from glucose down to carbon dioxide and water (the wonders of Krebs cycle). And then in college again, and again ...

It is quite interesting, despite the abysmal efficiency of a leaf (about 1 % conversion of sunlight to hydrocarbons), it is amazing how Photosystem II split the water with so little energy. If we could replicate that in an industrial manner, energy concerns about clean energy (and storage vectors) would be greatly decreased.

Well, Steins;Gate 0 is an alternate timeline splitting from Steins;Gate episode 23 trough an OVA. (And there still a couple of midway movies). It is a little messy. I had to check in various sites. I could post it the correct order if you want.

Ah, Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), wonderful! (I still have to watch the 3rd season, no spoilers please). It is a surprisingly good shonen. Besides, the openings are top notch, they bring you up just by listening a bit!

He, he. Evangelion, I have good memories. In fact I have the original series ... in VHS format! I was blown away back in the day. It is amazing the impact it have, and how they character have been copied to hell and beyond in Anime. Or the influence even in Hollywood. For example Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim Jaggers and the synchronization bit while taking kaijus is taken nearly literally from Evangelion.

Developments in the military sphere dominate the news today.

As a nation with an incredibly large Defense Manufacturing industry, Dinaden military technologies firms have entered their own bids for consideration:

State-owned Krædjuz Technologies has offered surplus stores of KAW-RA64 "Heiþapirsuz" air-to-surface missiles that largely meet requirements. As this is a state-funded venture, the missiles offered are older technology, first designed in the 1960s in the waning days of their 'military golden age,' their most recent upgrades and retrofits completed in the 1980s. They were originally designed to be fired from the squadron of F-100 Super Sabers that the nation bought from the US in the early 1960s to help modernize their lagging air capabilities, and have since been well-adapted to being mounted and launched from the much more modern and advanced jets the nation now produces for itself. Their name is translated to "Heaven's-Lance," and it has proven its worth time and again against small pirate boats. It barely meets the 100 nautical mile operational range and speed requirements, but boasts a higher warhead capacity than what is currently asked for. This is the lower bid of the two and the weapons are immediately available.

Private military technology firm Gæþes-Spitz Rüadpalcwiβes (GSR) has offered to tailor-make a new weapon specifically for this contract. For their higher bid they claim they will not be able to offer any warhead capacity higher than the actual minimums, but they will be able to offer up to double the operational range and higher speeds. Their concept is experimental, though they already have all of the technology their current plans require, and would be designed to climb upon reaching their target before diving directly down towards it, its mechanisms dividing the warhead into a carpet of smaller partitions designed to inflict maximum damage on multiple boats per fired missile. The GSR RPP-5s, code-named "Shrikes," would expect working prototypes within the month for testing, and to see the first completed units come off of the assembly line by year's end.

Gebiet 42 (Imperial Weapons Test range)

The venerable Elefant tank was a mid-1940s design, one of the most powerful heavy tanks of the era. At 80 tonnes, it was a behemoth, so well armed that it was near invulnerable against contemporary weapons. Only its slow speed and complicated drive system - prone to mechanical breakdown - prevented it from totally dominating the battlefield. Long since phased out and replaced by newer designs, the Elefant still played a role in the Imperial Armed Forces of 2019...as a target for weapons tests. Some exemplars were even retrofitted with modern armour plating for this purpose.

Elefant No. 17-K-4350 stood perfectly still in the dry flat lands of the Area 42 weapons test range. It had been deliberately up-armoured to resemble a modern Main Battle Tank. It was a clear day and when standing next to the tank, one could see the peaks of the Tannenberge mountain range 50 km away, behind a blue haze in the distance.

Right now, nobody was standing next to the tank. In fact, no body was standing anywhere near a 1 km radius of it. Suddenly, a burst of light appeared on top of one of the mountains in the distance, brighter than the sun, and simultaneously engulfing the tank. It erupted in a huge, fiery explosion. When the smoke cleared, all that remained was a huge chunk of charred and molten metal, surrounded by a small crater.

The first test of the new Lichtlanze 100 MW main combat laser had been a roaring success. The target had been eliminated from 54,2 km away. The accuracy had been perfect. Years of high energy beam research came to fruition. The system was a scaled down but much more practical variant of the 500 MW Ragnarok Laser onboard the L/KRV Morgenröte, that had been stolen by Vizekonsul Schulte in his New Light Order rebellion. The weapon would be perfect for both stationary defense platforms as well as naval usage and possibly as laser artillery (with the drawback that it required a direct line of sight).

Imperator Konsul Leo I., who had personally overseen the test from a secure bunker one kilometer away, grinned. He was deeply satisfied. His dream was to turn the Imperium into a sci-fi empire, complete with energy weapons, ubiquitous spaceships with anti-grav technology, shields and hyperdrives. This had been another step forward towards that vision...

Loftegen 2 will gladly purchase some KAW-RA64's, along with the necessary support hardware and technical advice, for initial experiments. We are building a maritime strike capacity essentially from scratch, and while we have suitable aircraft (we think) for the job of delivering the weapons, we have only a rough idea what capabilities the missiles should have. We also need to acquire the means to locate, track, and target hostile ships. The only thing we're absolutely sure of is the need for the missile to be able to deliver a nuclear warhead. We'd also love to hire GSR as consultants, to look at our bombers and help us pick the best one for the job.

The sale of military equipment, surplus or not, is considered a big enough deal in the nation that Emperor Arzejus was required to overlook the terms of the sale and sign an approval for the transaction. The deal saw considerable dissent in the Unified Houses of Lords and Burghers, but the Imperial Court determined that it was well within the rights of Krædjuz Technologies to make this sale. The government signed off on the initial order of Heavens-Lances, as well as the contracting of technicians and programmers to help the buyers integrate the rather sturdy and modular weapons firing systems into their current aircraft and train members of their military in the use, maintenance, and propagation of the technologies involved. GSR's initial offer to help Loftegen design a new bomber specifically for use in long-range sea patrols was unanimously shot down by the Unified Houses, but they were given the go-ahead to be contracted as consultants. The Dinaden Lords assign Knight-Captain Hemrut Gulviuz as the government attache to oversee the consultation, assist in procurement of testing equipment, and ensure that nothing goes above and beyond what the Imperial government deigns "healthy and reasonable" while helping the foreign military strengthen their own military. Denado, having an extensive coast and decades of experience in large and small scale naval warfare, seems a natural choice for this endeavor.

Included free of charge in the shipments are, of course, hand-bound and lovingly embellished bibles, each translated appropriately with the aid of foreign linguists.

Signing off on the deal, the elderly Emperor is seen smiling, seated with his walking cane across his lap while representatives from Krædjuz Technologies and GSR flank him on either side. If nothing else, this deal serves to help further the current Emperor's goals in allowing Denado to be seen in better eyes by the international community, following the unfortunate side effects of Emperor Raziul's defense-oriented reign. Critics worry the weapons deal has potential to cause problems for the country down the line, but all parties assure that a deal is in good faith.

Ambassador Johann Jaspers would like to inform the government of the Republican Federation that, unfortunately, the Imperium of Leonism cannot offer any suitable anti-ship missile system at this time that fits the requirements as announced by Loftegen 2. Our current mainstay anti-ship missile, the Anti-Schiff-Rakete 33 (ASR33) is typically fired from much shorter ranges (maximum range is a mere 90 km) and weights a mere 200 kg.

ImpTec GmbH, the Imperium's largest arms manufacturing company with 35 million employees, could build an enlarged version of the same missile, dubbed ASR40, with 400 kg payload, but the range would still be only 140 km. The imperial emphasis of direct-line-of-sight combat, as demonstrated by our laser weaponry, is of a disadvantage in this case.

Rival company IRM AG promises to build a 500 kg missile with 500 km range, fulfilling all the other requirements specified, but does not have anything but blueprints to show for at this point. Since you probably want to buy the warheads now, we assume this offer is not what you want right now.

The University of Leestcheck department of Weapons Engineering, manufacturer of the LL9 point defense laser, noted that with current imperial technology, a fusion-powered warhead with practically limitless range (exceeding 10000 km) might be possible to build. It would be quite heavy and bulky, probably weighthing around 750 kg, with a "small" fusion reactor of 300 kg taking up a sizeable part of the fuselage. However, both weapon manufacturers mentioned above debunked these theoretical studies. While theoretically feasible, the resulting weapon would be way too expensive to be practical and the extreme range would rarely be needed in actual combat.
