It is early in the afternoon. Birds are singing outside the local district police station in the northern Mzeusian county of Erephis. The phone rings. Officer Yousafi spits a piece of chewing gum into the bin and answers.

"Hello? Police?" comes a man's voice.

"Yes sir," Yousafi answers, sitting up straighter at the sound of the man's distressed voice. What..."

"I've...I've found a body."

The man gives directions, and a few minutes later, Officer Yousafi hangs up the phone. "We've got a body." His colleagues look up from their desks. Yousafi stands, puts on his jacket and thunders down the stairs of the police station. More officers follow. Yousafi leaps into his car. It takes half an hour for the police to arrive. On the drive, Yousafi relays the information from the caller to his colleagues.

"A middle aged man. He was found in the woods by the side of the road, partly covered by leafs. The caller was walking his dog. Body looks fresh."

When the officers arrived on scene, Yousafi approached the man. He standing by the road, pointed to the spot where the body lay. Yousafi moved into the woods, pushing aside branches to get to the path the dog-walker had been on. A few feet away, he saw the woman's body.

While some of the police comforted the dog-walker, Yousafi and a few others examined the scene. There was no doubt that this was a murder, but not wanting to contaminate the crime scene, the officers could determine very little else. The forensic team were, however, on their way. Yousafi scowled, turning to another officer, hands on hips.

"When's the last time we had a murder here?"

"Off the top of my head, I don't know." the woman replied.

I don't think Atlantica has stepped down from the Court and procedures do exist in law. Wymondham not having been replaced does pose a problem, though.

The sun riseth over the Demonos Outlands. Vast and desolate its center and dominating geography is The Anvil Desert. The sun is a great hammer that forges iron men. Summer training for Demonos Defence Agents is an NCO's hell.

The idea is movement in the night and day exercises in blistering heat. Surviving through pure motivation. From July 1st to July 31. Little sleep. Thirst. Few have known to perish this way. The iron crescent and its privladges, rank, and pay grade came with this training's successful completion.

At the exact center of The Anvil Desert is an oasis that is considered holy land by The Principality of Demonos. The Oasis of Light, so it is called, is approximately 3 square miles. It is like an island archipelago among waves of sand dunes. The center of the Oasis is a shallow lagoon that is 6 feet deep at its deepest point. The water of this lagoon is crystalline. Vegetation surrounding the lagoon is grazed and curated by a native flock of pure white she-goats.

The source of water of The Oasis of Light is a natural phenomenon. Never has the water been higher or lower than 6 feet. It was believed as a place for Osiris to rest and drink. In the belly of the desert a cup was sprung so Osiris could refresh and recline upon the dunes under a crescent moon. He enjoyed his paradise and invited the pharaoh's children to rest with him there. He placed his sacred white flock of she-goats to mow and tend to it.

To this day, once a year, the Bedouins introduce 6 black Billy-goats into the heard. An obelisk can be found at the Northern most point of the oasis describing this ritual on one of its five sides. Of the kids born into the heard, all white she-goats are to be untouched, Only one black Billy-goat kid may be Kept by the tribe. The eldest Black Billy introduced to breed into the herd is slaughtered and burned with all Male kids of the litters. How ever many white she-goats kids are born, the ritual provides that number to be consumed by the tribe. White-she goat is served as a meal in a celebration towards Osiris who created the cup of eternal water upon The Oasis of Light.

The NCO Agents of the Defense forces of Demonos are honored guests. The Ritual occurs August 1st each year. The Bedouins recognize the importance of protecting this holy treasure and see the newly formed NCOs as holy desert warriors who have guarded its purity. The last days of July are spent locating the oasis and journeying toward the Ritual. Lady Vera decorates the NCOs with the neck order of the iron crescent in recognition for their achievements.

"Lady?" he asked, in the tone of a man dying, who knew what was happening, but at the same time did not understand.

"I'm here, James," she said, taking his hand.

"I beg leave to surrender my office," James said. He hadn't been Prime Minister for twenty years, but no longer remembered that.

"You have that leave. You have served me well, and I will never forget you. Now go, sleep, and dream, until the world is renewed."

With his last breath, James Ysar said, "Yes, Lady."

James Ysar's wife, children, and grandchildren were among the very few who had ever seen Lady Zaharra cry.

On a bright and sunny day, in the Ysanny cemetary of Altenburg, James Ysar was laid to rest. As his casket was lowered into the ground, jets flew overhead. By tradition, he was laid in the earth with his head toward Ys, the spiritual center of the Ysanny faith. Also by tradition, his family gathered about his head, his daughters(literal and figurative) weeping, while his sons (likewise) beat their chests with grief. On either side stood his friends, comrades of many years, allies, compatriots. At his feet stood Her, alone, silent, in the place for strangers.

When the service was over the priest addressed the Lady and said, "Lady, do you wish to add to his eulogy?"

Lady Zaharrah sniffed. "He once told me, 'There was a door,'" she said. "He dared to mock me..." She took up a handful of earth, and cast it on the coffin in the grave below. "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, we will meet again my friend, I have faith." She collapsed to her knees, and prostrated herself before his grave. As did all others around: for he had been a great man.

From the Offices of the Department of Foreign Relations of the FRCP

Upon hearing of the unfortunate death of Mr. James Ysar, despite never meeting the man, I was shocked. It had never occurred to me that those who served their country so diligently like he during crises like the New Light Order insurgency could ever die. I pray that his funeral service, which for circumstances beyond our control no representative of ours will be able to attend, properly decorates and acknowledges him for his achievements and steady command.

And although an ocean and many, many political divides and circumstances may divide our two nations, the Federal Republic nevertheless sends its best wishes for the family, friends, and citizenry that without a doubt benefited from his staunch and unyielding spirit, but due to the ever-changing countenance of life will no longer relish in his presence.

On another note, we ask that as no state of war exists between the FRCP and the Federal Republic of Loftegen, that your vessels and aircraft, military or otherwise, abide by the South Seas Commerce Declarations. Much thanks to you, foreigner.

Signed with solemn regards,
Nikita Kazakov
Chairman of the Department of Foreign Relations

The victim had just been identified by his sister as a Mr Johnathan Klosis. Yousafi scowled through the window at the body in the other room. Miss Klosis was being led away, teary-eyed by another officer. The dead man had not been reported missing due to strained familial ties and few friends to miss him. It was now a few days since Klosis had been found, and the forensic analysis had come back a few hours ago. The death had occurred roughly twelve hours before its discovery, meaning it was dumped in the early morning hours. The cause of death had ultimately been strangulation, but signs of blunt force trauma were also present. Few other clues as to the man's killer had been found.

An officer walks in, mug of tea in hand. "Something the matter?"

"Not much to go on." Yousafi answers. "The victim I mean. Reclusive man. We'll have to ask neighbours more about him, but it isn't looking promising."

The officer sipped her tea. "Better get going then."

An hour or so later, they had reached the last known residence of Mr Klosis. It was a grungy motel on the edge of the same forest his body had been found. Inside the unairconditioned interior of the motel lobby, Yousafi's scowl was stronger than ever, as a tired, overweight women glared back.

"I'm sorry officer, but that's it. He hardly ever came out his room and I wasn't on duty when he apparently did." Her mouse clicked a few times before she scrolled down the page of whatever her computer screen was showing. Come back in two days. You can talk to the receptionist then."

Yousafi sighed. "You can look up the receptionist's address, right? Or a phone number?"

I could." came the reply.

Yousafi stepped closer. "Ma'am, do you want to be charged with obstructing a murder investigation, because that is what I'm trying to conduct here. Just give me the information and I can leave you alone." He gestured around the empty lobby. "I can see you're very busy, so the sooner I leave, the better."

The receptionist hesitated for a moment, before scrawling a phone number onto a piece of paper. "Need anything else?" she muttered.

"The names of the people staying here during Klosis's stay, and if they are still staying here."

Now with a list of names, Yousafi's scowl lightened. He and the other officers would have to begin speaking to those on the list about Klosis. Most had already left the motel, but police had their phone numbers. The first name was of a man apparently due to leave the motel in a day. Yousafi moved up the stairs to begin the questioning.

In response to this grave news, Elliot Jania has ordered the sacrifice of eleven goats in James Ysar's name. Prayers for the man were said in the major temples in Mzeusia.
