also fun fact i had covid and it sucks

Consul...for...Life? Not surprised.

Oh look...Tea Time. Haven't seen that since Aleksander was the Leader. (May the Divine rest his soul.)

I'll uh....Pass....on the snacks and drinks, thank you. Our palate has changed quite a bit. Maybe back a few weeks ago when we were still Equine, I would have taken the six apples and apple juice. Hmm.... Love life? Uh... Sure. Whatever that is.

Glad to see Tea Time is back. I'll have apples and my juices.

Howie Hawkins: Another Green Party nutter. Hopefully he doesn't get enough votes to be much of a spoiler in the election.

Mayonnaise: Also like Tex, not a big condiment fan in general. I don't like mayo, but I don't hate it either.

Baby Got Back: I prefer Bill Clinton's remix. https://youtu.be/Jt7iFD_USwc

Love Life: Not much going on there.

Lavan Tiri wrote:also fun fact i had covid and it sucks

Sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better now!

I'll have the bee jar, please. I love the honey. With apple juice. Thanks.

Despite voting in a swing state, I'm planning to vote for Howie Hawkins. I can't bring myself to vote for Biden, at all. My only rule this primary was anyone but Biden, and I plan to stick to it.

I fûcking hate mayo. My mum would always get mayo in my pubsubs and now I'm in charge of picking them up because I dared to complain. Honey mustard is my preferred condiment, of course, though it's a lot of calories and I'm trying to watch my figure. I've gained like 20 pounds while I'm quarantine, eliminating any weight loss I made this year and then some.

Baby Got Back is an alright song, I guess. I never really cared for it one way or the other.

Love life: I've been talking to this wonderful guy for the past few months. I met him through the Furries and he lives in Canada. I was actually planning to visit but then I had to get cucked by corona.

Due to a massive increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths among the human population, scientists have been working non-stop around the clock to find a potential cure. Officials in Starfleet are still debating on whether to assign staff to researching a cure. Military officials and engineers have also put a rather controversial solution on the table, which is re-creating and introducing the strain of [EQUUS-7] that was dispersed by the former Soviet Union. Discussions and voting is currently ongoing, but human revolutions are popping up across the nation. Equestrian Armed Forces are trying to stop these as peacefully as possible, but it's only a matter of time until things may get violent.

- We have managed to reproduce the strain of [EQUUS-7] in our laboratory, but a different strain is being worked on as well. The new strain, designated [VXN-8], was an attempt to make the humans more resistant to disease. Instead of an enhanced respiratory system, it ended up causing fox-like mutations. When tried on an Equestrian, like the Tsar, we found that [VXN-8] caused a rapid transmutation and quickly turned the subject from Equine to Vulpine. Debates are underway to decide the use of such a serum.

Fųck.

Okay there ya go.

But in actuality: I'm back, for good, after a couple years of hopping on and off NS. A lot has changed since I was last regularly active, and most of it isn't for the better. Activity across the whole site, from gameside to the Portal to the Multiverse, is down, way down, from the glory days of 2015-2016. Even this region, where I used to fear leaving to go off and RP because I'd come back to 170 messages on the RMB, has all but died, being a few old assholes and a lot of memories left over.

But those assholes are still here.

As your Consul, as your friend, and as this region's undefeated champ in bothering other nations so much I get reported to the mods and lose a nation, I promise that we're gonna work together to revitalize the CoFN: we're gonna work to revitalize the region we've already got, we're gonna work to suck in as many newly-created nations as we can, and we're gonna work to keep them active and invested in the community. Because fůck you, we're too stupid and stubborn to just roll over and die.

Anyway.

Oh! Tea Time! How wonderful! I'll have coal and water like usual.

Howie Hawkins: Edward tells he's the Green Party candidate in the United States presidential election. I'm painted green, so if I lived in the U.S. he'd have my vote.

Mayo: Engines don't eat mayonnaise, so I don't really have an opinion on it. But my Driver hates it while my Fireman likes it, which sometimes causes arguments between them.

Baby Got Back: I think I heard James' crew play it a while back. Seems like a weird song, but everyone has their own tastes.

Love life: Ah, locomotive love life. A bit of a touchy subject among some people. I've never been in a relationship, but let's just say me and Rebecca have been getting along quite well.

I've had a look through the records and I found that we had gone some 516 days without a Tea Time. We ought to be ashamed of ourselves.

Lavan Tiri wrote:- Howie Hawkins: I despise Joe Biden and Donald Trump is worse. I'd write in Bernie if he hadn't spent every waking moment since he dropped out disappointing me. As things are, I'll vote Green. Hawkins 2020.

I've heard that there are some allegations from Dario Hunter—the runner-up in the Green primary—that they rigged the election in Hawkins' favor. I'm not entirely sure how credible these allegations are and if I'm honest I'm not sure how to feel about it. I have trouble seeing why anyone would want to rig the Green Party primary—it can't possibly pay off in any meaningful way! At the same time, I feel that it's totally possible for that very reason.

As a fellow Green voter, what say you?

I'll take six apples and apple juice.

Howie Hawkins: Regardless of whether or not you agree with the Green's Party program, you must acknowledge that they are spoilers in the American electoral system and that any vote for them will be a vote not going to the Democrats. Although the blame should be put less on the spoiler and more so on the electoral system that allows for certain candidates to be spoilers in the first place by forcing voters to cast only one vote.

Although I personally do find the Green Party's program to be quite silly. Their focus is not on creating actual change, but rather on left-wing purity testing in order to chastise Democrats who are actually trying to get elected. They're against nuclear power, for rent control, and seem intent on using the existential threat that climate change poses to push forward with an untenable socialistic agenda. The Greens are watermelons, being green on the outside and red on the inside.

Mayonnaise: It's disgusting.

Baby Got Back: I'm not an avid listener of this song, to say the least.

Love Life: I don't have one.

Exactly, the blame shouldn't be on the Greens for simply pushing a different message, it should be on the whole system that enforces a false duopoly and doesn't allow people to vote their conscience, but rather to vote for the "lesser of two evils". Any evil is evil, I'd rather "waste" my vote and make a vote I'm comfortable with than not vote at all because I find the DNC and GOP candidates disgusting

Regardless of the reason and regardless of who's at fault, a vote for the Greens is a wasted vote. Just because Biden is an imperfect candidate does not mean that we should risk giving Trump a second term. Even if you don't live in a swing state, a vote for Biden will ensure that if he succeeds in the Electoral College, his victory will seem more legitimate than Trump's victory in 2016 due to him also winning the popular vote. And if Biden is elected by a large margin (alongside a strong showing for Democrats in Congressional races), then he would be more comfortable enacting the strong progressive agenda that you want because it would be clear that the American people are behind it.

However, a vote for the Greens will accomplish none of this since they have no chance of winning this election, including most likely in your local races. And it will only make mainstream Democrats less willing to compromise with progressives if they see their efforts go to waste. They could just as easily shift to the center to appeal to suburban voters if progressive voters aren't reliable, after all. Every party, including the Democrats, has to earn your vote, but you also can't expect the party to trust progressive voters if said voters turn the party down even after Biden has adopted a large chunk of their policy platform. Even if you think that Biden is not progressive enough, remember that his platform is the most progressive in over 50 years.

Then they can do that (like they did with Hillary and Kerry), and when the President gets re-elected they can come crying back to us. The Democrats have taken it's progressive wing for granted for far too long and people are (rightfully) pissed off. The mindset of many progressives is that to get the Dems to care about us, we have to show that we're not willing to vote for them when they fụck up.

Except he hasn't. I'm not even sure if people would believe him if he did. Hell, on some topics (Venezuela, specifically, comes to mind) he's to the right of Trump.

The simple fact of the matter is that for many people, myself included, Bernie was the compromise. I see minimal difference between a Biden presidency and a Trump one, except that Biden's people might be better at putting a media spin on things. Joe Biden will do nothing for the issues that I care about and in fact played a large part in worsening them (crime bill, anyone?). He won't implement M4A or anything close to it (an issue where he's to the right of Hillary, btw), his student debt forgiveness plan will not go far enough, he'll do nothing for black lives, and the kids will still be in cages. I'm not voting for him.

Gualimole wrote:Regardless of the reason and regardless of who's at fault, a vote for the Greens is a wasted vote.

Also, because I keep coming up with points that I need to figure out how to actually write out instead of shouting random words at the computer: I used to be this type of person. Y'know? the person who goes "BUt THe eLeCTOrAL sYsTeM" at any mention of voting third party. Then I developed an ideology with a sense of morality and decided that voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. And I don't vote for evil. Most people have a sense of right and wrong that—for better or worse—isn't rooted in a comprehensive understanding of psephology. Find a new argument because this one is just annoying.

Bearlong wrote:Joe Biden will do nothing for the issues that I care about and in fact played a large part in worsening them (crime bill, anyone?).

I know I'm bringing up multiple disparate points here, but I'll also remind the House that Joe Biden currently faces 8 separate accusations of—what has been nicely described as—"inappropriate behavior" toward women. The fact that the Democrats didn't immediately swap him out for someone else immediately once Tara Reade hit demonstrates the party's incompetence, even behind the scenes.

Bearlong wrote:Effort? What effort?

After Biden de facto won the primary, a task force was set up between allies of Sanders and Biden to try to unite both the moderate and progressive wings of the Democratic Party, successfully pushing Biden to the left on a wide variety of issues.

But since 2016, suburban areas have become increasingly Democratic, making it more of a possibility than ever that Democrats can win them over in 2020. Moderate Democrats did quite well in suburban areas in 2018, after all.

Again, Biden is running on the most progressive platform in 50 years. His major policy items include:

  • A $15 minimum wage.

  • A total of $1.7 trillion of federal investments on combating climate change in addition to another $3.3 trillion from state and local governments in addition to the private sector.

  • Tax increases targeting the wealthy equal to $4 trillion over the next decade, which is over twice the size of the tax cuts passed in 2017.

  • A Medicare buy-in for the under-65 population in addition to allowing those over the age of 60 to enroll in the Medicare program for seniors, which would be expanded to cover additional benefits such as dental and vision care.

  • Abolishing the death penalty, cash bail, and private prisons.

  • Decriminalizing cannabis possession in addition to the possession of other narcotics.

  • Creating a federal standard for the use of police force, expanding community policing, and supporting Democratic legislation to end qualified immunity.

You also need to consider the immorality of giving Trump a second term. Even if you don't like Biden, you have to acknowledge that Trump has undoubtedly been worse. Do you think any Democrat would have supported the travel ban and separating children from their parents? And politics isn't just about what makes you feel the most morally pure, it's also about gradually moving towards the accomplishment of your goals, which a second term of Trump won't achieve.

Bearlong wrote:I know I'm bringing up multiple disparate points here, but I'll also remind the House that Joe Biden currently faces 8 separate accusations of—what has been nicely described as—"inappropriate behavior" toward women. The fact that the Democrats didn't immediately swap him out for someone else immediately once Tara Reade hit demonstrates the party's incompetence, even behind the scenes.

Many of those accusations involved women being uncomfortable with how Biden touched them, not assault. And at the start of his campaign, Biden apologized for it and promised to change his behavior. Also, Tara Reade's allegations have been quite weak, with the NYT report into it not finding any corroborating evidence from other Senate aides. And since the allegation has been made, Biden has called for full transparency, even calling for Senate records to be released to try to see if a complaint had been filed in the first place. However, once Biden tried to do that, Reade changed her story and said her report didn't mention sexual assault.

Not only that, but immediately replacing Biden after the allegation was made before any in-depth investigations were made into it is ridiculous. Stop trying to take advantage of the Reade allegation to replace a nominee that you don't like for political reasons.

The issue of the task force is that we're not suffering from a dearth of progressive policy ideas. Joe Biden knows what we want and he's actively deciding not to endorse those things. He's using this task force to act as though he's going to listen, but we know he isn't going to.

Most presidents keep their promises, so I don't see why Biden will be any different. What you see as someone breaking a promise is often due to Congressional obstruction or ugly compromises necessary to get other parts of one's agenda through. And Biden has already shifted leftward on many issues. If your standard is for every Democrat to believe the exact same things, then you'll never be satisfied.
