Baan Malur
The Kamal Akaviri siege was brutal and relentless. Every time the Redoran thought an assault was over, another promptly began. The old stone walls would hold against anything the Kamal could muster, but the manpower was that of a peacetime garrison, and they were constantly losing men.

Scouts reports estimated around 25-30,000 troops, led by a great general named Dre'Assood Gji-Kamal. They are the troops of the King of Kamal, a descendant of the last Akaviri invader, Ada'Soom. The redoran troops within Baan Malur, having captured several Akaviri, learned through interrogation that the Kamal are landing throughout several points in Tamriel, and that this time, they would not get stuck in a single pass.
A single report goes like such.

interrogation Information of Dir-Lakod, foot-soldier and Auxiliary of the 2nd Kamal Army

-A single host, the largest, is sailing to the Topal Bay to land in Leyawiin, March up the River, and besiege the Imperial city.

-The second host is the one in Northwestern Morrowind, besiegin the Redoran Capital of Baan Malur, and hoping to march down and lay waste to the Morrowind mainland, around Sadras and Indoril.

-A third host is on it's way to the Iliac, to atack the cities of Daggerfall, Wayrest, and Sentinel, in the hopes that they can't reinforce the Imperials.

-Several other, smaller contingents will land around many points in Tamriel, to cause confusion, as well as chaos and destruction. Curiously, they will not attack anywhere in the Summerset Isles, and the Dunmer believe they had struck a deal with the High elves.

The Dunmeri council feels it is in their best interest to alert all relevant powers, as well as some irrelevant ones, to the impending akaviri threats. they send docile Cliff racers with messages in tow. in the meantime, the dunmer Garrison prepares to meet with the field Army, and meet the Invaders in the open field. But first they would have to break out of the city.

An Old Friend, A New Adventure 7th Morning Star 4E 203

It is after dinner in Raven Rock, Solstheim at Medea and Maerwyn's home. Trollz is sleeping by the fire and Maerwyn is making some leather strips from the hides caught earlier in the day on the tanning rack in the living room. Medea still has cabin fever and is in her room reading a copy of The Mystery of Talara volume 3. Suddenly the calm is interrupted by a loud firm knock at the door. Trollz perks up and Maerwyn stares at the door for a moment and slides his tanning knife up his sleeve and approaches the door.

Opening it slowly the wood elf's face changes from caution to utter surprise and then a smile. Sir Mazog the young orc stands before him clad in heavy Imperial Legion raiment flanked by a Redguard and a racial Imperial. Maerwyn's smile turns to a puzzled look at the two Legionaires as Sir Mazog brightly says "Hello. Trollz bounds past Maerwyn almost knocking him over and tackles Sir Mazog to the ground. The Redguard and Imperial withdraw their weapons, the Imperial wielding a hammer and the Redguard two scimitars. Trollz overjoyed licks Sir Mazog and then lifts him up and Trollhugs him.

"It's okay Jaq, Plutarch he's just happy to see me….urgh Trollz your getting slobber all over me, I am happy to see you too." Sir Mazog pats Trollz on the head and Trollz releases Sir Mazog and stars dancing happily around him. "Hahaha, it is good to see you again too Trollz." Sir Mazog takes a fish out of his pack and throws it to Trollz who happily eats it before turning to Maerwyn. "And it is good to see you too my friend. My apologies for coming unannounced, but where are my manners, this is Sir Jaquavis," Mazog introduces the Redguard who puts his swords away and looks at Trollz with an expression of surprise, "and this is Sir Plutarch." The Imperial blooded man nods his helmeted head curtly as he re-adjusts his massive two handed hammer to his back.

"Yea I see that." Maerwyn coldly nods to the trio of Legionaries. "I take it you didn't just come back here to chitchat."

"Well...that's true" Sir Mazog's face turns down. "But Maerwyn I am not here for anything against you, it's just...I need your help. The Empire needs your help Maerwyn. You don't understand what has been happening. Tamriel has been invaded by the Akaviri. A massive legion has landed in Morrowind."

"So what? What has that got to do with us, and what could we do about it? You think we can fight an entire army? No, it's peaceful here I finally have a home I have adventured for too long, we journeyed far and too long and suffered too much to gain our corner of peace to just leave it." Maerwyn demands Trollz come inside and the troll who is sniffing Sir Jaquavis turns and obeys. "I am happy to see you still alive my friend, but you should have stayed in Solstheim with us, we're not obligated to go die in the Empire's wars. Sorry but I can't help you."

"Wait Maerwyn, this request, it's not the Empire's request, it's my own. Yes, my mission from the Empire is to fight back against the New Akaviri Invasion, and yes I have the ability to give you a fair compensation, but me coming to you is of my own will and request. Maerwyn, think of Felicity and Soregh and the other Ashlanders, we helped deliver them from slavery last year. If they could be convinced to join the fight against the Akaviri invasion they could turn the tide and save Great redoran and indeed all of Morrowind. Don't think the Akaviri care about our politics any more than you yourself. Solstheim is not far from Vvardenfell or Skyrim, if Morrowind falls your paradise is lost anyways." Sir Mazog steps forward and makes his plea.

"I wish you luck my friend, but the answer is no." Maerwyn shuts the door and turns around to see Medea and Trollz right behind him starring at him.

"Wait Sir Mazog, I am going with you even if he won't!" Medea pushes Maerwyn out of the way and opens the door. and marches out of the house.

"Medea! Medea come back, we can work this over baby, we don't have to stay here let's not throw our life away. We can go to Skyrim and get married I swear, let's not go back to Morrowind." Maerwyn shouts exasperatedly after Medea. Trollz runs out the house following after Medea. "Oh Trollz not you too! Come back Trollz!"

Maerwyn sighs as the group disappears down the small village lane into the heart of Raven Rock. He runs back inside and grabs his bow and a quiver and loads up a pack hastily of some rations and basic supplies. He turns around and looks at the cozy home of his own he had carved out for himself and sighs. Locking the door with a Level 90 he turns and closes the door to his home and sets off at pace after the others.

The nibenean empire

Imperial Palace, Leyawiin

The Emperor sat at his desk surrounded by his generals with a full map of Black Marsh upon the large oak table, a little green flag adorning Gideon, as well as the placements of Imperial garrisons around the city. The double doors flung open, alarming all of the people present as Nibenean officer entered. "Your Majesty! I apologize for the interruption, but you should hear this." Said the panicked officer as a he unveiled a scroll in his left hand. The Emperor, intrigued, nodded in approval as the other generals looked at him in confusion. As the officer read off what he had to say, the eyes in the room widened as they looked at the Emperor for guidance. The Akaviri were coming, and they planned to slaughter their way through Leyawiin to the Imperial City. Emperor Medora chuckled at the news. After a brief moment of silence, the Emperor tossed the map of Black Marsh to the floor and brought back the old map of the Topal Bay and Leyawiin at the top. "I'm skeptical of the news from which I hear, therefore I'm sending a rider to see the what state this Baan Malur is in. In the meantime, recall General Saciand and the Second Army. Instruct her to leave a garrison of five thousand men to defend Gideon. Bring in the Eighth Regiment from Water's Edge and the Sixth Regiment from Blankenmarch. Bring in the Warhorses from both Fort Bulwark and Redwater, leave the remaining Swordsmen to garrison. As for the Navy, I want a Cutter manned by a skeleton crew posted at the Northern shores of Topal Island, concealed from any southern ships coming Northward. At the first sign of an armada, it must make a stride back to Leyawiin, instruct the crew to blow a horn twice for an enemy. In case the ship doesn't make it back, prepare the armies' positions prior. I'd rather be safe than watching Leyawiin burn. If this true, we will need everything we can muster up. Now, let's discuss our primary battle plans as well as plans for if the defense is a failure. In a worst case scenario, the combined strength of the First and Second Armies are defeated and Leyawiin burns." As the Emperor continued to establish plans for such an attack, a single rider with the fastest horse in Leyawiin sped off through the Nibenay Basin.

The Emperor of Tamriel, Trollz, and Great redoran

Outskirts of Baan Malur
The daily camp life of the Kamal was relatively simple. The purported "Snow Demons," as they were called in Tamriel, were relatively normal as far as soldiers went; patrolling, scouting the enemy positions, foraging for food in the bizarre local fauna. They were of a pale white complexion, and had sharp, brusque features, but were otherwise not to different from other men or Mer, looking more like Nords than Daedra or other demons. The great natural cove around Baan Malur made impressive walls, so the Kamal had to resort to starving out the Redoran. The citizens of the City, however, did not seem particularly perturbed. The great city had faced some of the most brutal and deadly sieges in history; It was guarding one of the main entrances into Morrowind from Skyrim, and the Nords had a tradition of either invading or raiding. Statistically, they outlasted the enemy nine times out of ten. At least until reinforcements arrived, that is.

The Akaviri High Command, led by Dre'Assood Gji-Kamal, had been gathering information on the Dunmer since their last invasion. It had seemed they had made a slight blunder in besieging the most Martial and Militiaristic Dunmer house, though the alternative, the Telvanni, were feared Wizards even throughout Akavir. The other option was to land in Sheogorad, Northern Vvardenfell, but it seemed to risky due to the rocky nature of the Isles. They pressed on, confident in their numbers, as well as their fighting prowess, a pride similar to that of the Redoran they were attacking.

The Bells began to toll loudly, with a shrill call-to-arms. The Kamal burst into action, gathering their weapons, and gathering on the landscape around the city. They knew the Baan Malur garrison was dangerously underpowered, and left only 2,000 men to ensure the siege continued . The army then split into three groups.

The Kamal Akaviri Army
-The first, the Cavalry, were at the front, and numbered around 4,000 men, mostly irregulars, as the concept of cavalry was not treated as much more than skirmishers in Kamal. Only around 500 were armored and well-trained, with the others being scouts, outriders, and foragers, armed with a variety of bows and spears.

-The second, the main force, was made up of 12,000 men-at-arms, well-equipped and armored, with both a sword and a shield, and making up the bulk of the effective fighting force of Kamal. They were joined by 2,000 Dragoons, mounted infantrymen whose tasks were mostly strategic rather than combat-based. The force also contained, albeit closer to the rear, a force of 3,500 archers, missing around 500 bowmen from an unexpected attempt by the Redoran to break out of the Siege.

-The final force, about 4,000 pikemen, are tasked to cover the rear from any flank attempts. Armed solely with spears, given shields but otherwise lacking armor, these spearmen are not seen as combat troops but more of a defensive measure. They do their best to avoid the fire of archers.

The Odds
The entire force numbered about 27,500 men, and they were itching for their first battle.

They faced a Redoran Army of only 15,000 strong. Before the initial fighting, some Dunmer soldiers reported spotting a Nibenese fellow riding a white horse, but others told them they were full of it, and no Nibenese would be spotted this far North.

So far I'll be selecting volunteers for the High Council positions, which is basically the cabinet. High Councilor is a non-elected position, though Elder Council is the legislative body and people can be elected to that, but we don't have enough members just yet.

Positions open are:
Councilor of Interior
Councilor of Foreign Affairs
Councilor of Defense
Councilor of Judiciary

Each would play roles characterized by their name amd report their progress each week, with advice amd assistance if needed from me.

Wind Walks On Water 7th-10th Morning Star, 4E 203

A few days a go Trollz, Maerwyn, and Medea set out with Sir Mazog whom has now become an Imperial Legion soldier and his two Legion companions, Sir Jaquavis and Sir Plutarch. Reaching the coast of Solstheim later that night they decided to split into two parties. Trollz transformed, painfully as he has not been forced to transform for months, into a cliff racer and took Maerwyn and Sir Jaquavis on his back to fly ahead hastily and meet with the Ashlander tribe which Felicity and Soregh belong to in order to plea for them and other Ashlanders to help defeat the Akaviri Invasion set against Great redoran and balance the odds in their favor.

Medea, Sir Mazog, and Sir Plutarch reach the shoreline and with no boat in sight, Medea looks puzzled. Sir Plutarch, a large portly Imperial casts water walking on himself and stands on the surface of the ocean before casting the spell on Sir Mazog whom likewise steps on the seashore.

"I trust a mage knows water walking even if they are a beautiful Nord." Sir Plutarch smirks at Medea.

"Yes of course." Medea says curtly and casts the spell on herself and steps forward out onto the ocean. "But it is still going to take days to walk across the sea to Morrowind from Solstheim, are you mad?"

"Ha, cutie don't you worry." Sir Plutarch flirts with Medea some more and she blushes.

"I'm frankly surprised a man as big as you still doesn't sink despite the water walking spell." Medea bites back at Sir Plutarch.

"Hahaha, you are as beautiful as you are witty just like Maz here says. I might be big, but I bet I'm faster than your little scrawny wood elf boyfriend." Sir Plutarch grins and suddenly bolts off at an incredible speed before running back suddenly and stopping and clasping Medea's hand and bowing down and kissing it to the laughter of Sir Mazog. Sir Plutarch looks up at Medea with a grin "M'lady I am at your service!"

"Yikes! How did you do that?" Medea says taking her hand aback astonished but curious at his magical prowess.

"To be honest with you girly, I am not very good at the whole flashy smashy Destruction School or the others. I am a big guy and like to fight, but over the years became pretty adept at Restoration. Here we shall run on ahead to try to get to Great redoran to set a Mark spell to recall your little boyfriend and your pet troll. It's a simple spell I made myself, I call it Wind Walks On Water, it will give us 100 Speed and water walking status for hours and we will dash across the waves together. I will cast it on free of charge. I can teach it to you.. for the price of a kiss." Sir Plutarch lays on the charm and casts Wind Walks On Water on Medea giving her 100 Speed.

Medea says nothing and begins running ahead and the trio go zipping across the army towards Morrowind, reaching its shores before sun rise. Throughout the next few days as they approach the Akavir masses they consume some invisibility potions and with the Wind Walks On Water spells hastily circumvent and then find a way up the cliffs into Baan Malur. After entering the city by stealth they rest up and set the spell Mark inside the city gates to allow the other half of the party to be able to teleport in.

In the hours before nightfall on the third day, Sir Jaquavis suddenly appears having cast Recall. Sir Mazog, Sir Plutarch, Sir Jaquavis, and Medea make their presence known and approach the town military leaders. Surprised and distrustful of the sudden appearance of the Legion, the military and public of Great redoran allow them to speak.

Sir Jaquavis informs the generals of Great redoran that the Legion on behalf of the Emperor have secured the aid of the Ashlanders, whom even now have summoned a small army of a few hundred elite warriors and are moving across the ashlands with haste enlisting other small tribes and enclaves warriors to come help their Dunmer brothers in the face of this invasion against Morrowind, nay not just Morrowind, but all Tamriel, by Akavir. As proof Sir Jaquavis boldly presents to them the arrows of the chieftains which have all ready decided to join the fight, a token of their pledge.

By the dawn of the fourth day the small but hardy Ashlander warriors along with Trollz and Maerwyn whom stayed with the Ashlanders, and their old friend Soregh and Felicity's father the chieftain of a tribe, arrive on the field at an advantageous position behind the Akaviri Kamal horde of ice demons. The Ashlanders maintain their stealth and the element of surprise waiting for an opportune moment to help strike the enemy rear. The fate of our heroes and Morrowind and even Tamriel hang in the balance in the battle between the Akaviri and Great redoran to come.

Great redoran

Great redoran

The Eve of Battle
The mood in the city is one of anxious tension, everyone disquieted by the nearing battle. While the Redoran, who are renowned across Tamriel for their fighting prowess, were confident in their strategy, the numbers did not look in their favor. With nearly a 10,000 man advantage, the Akavari wave looked indomitable, and the Redoran were dreadfully aware of it.

The surprising appearance of Men of the Legion and an odd band of outlanders had caused much ruckus and celebration, as they brought news of Ashlander reinforcements, and the Generals, led by War-Chief Llethyn Ramoran and Hetman Vedam Arobar, had hosted a great, albeit frugal, feast in their honor, as there was a siege and food was scarce. Late in the night, the honorable and often-prudish men of Redoran celebrated with total abandon, and wine and emotions flowed throughout the night, the heavy thoughts of tomorrow forgotten in the heat of the festivities. While it may be the last day for many, they go now into battle happily, with memories of companionship and brotherhood on their minds.

The Relief of Baan Malur
The slaughter from the battle was of epic proportions. Redoran, Kamali, and ashlander dead lined the trenches that developed throughout the battle, and the winners traversed around the battlefield, looting the dead, killing the wounded enemy, and gathering their own dead for burial. Their victory, however, could be interpreted differently. The Kamal Army had crushed the Redoran vanguard, and the casualties of both sides were exponential. The Ashlander reinforcements spearheaded an assault deep into Kamal lines, but their traditionally chitin and resin armors were ill-suited for heavy battle, and they were repulsed. Despite this, while the main Redoran Army took the brunt of the Akaviri assault, a second relief force took the 2,000 strong siege camp by surprise, and managed to reinforce and resupply Baan Malur with significant stocks of food and another 5,000 troops, made up of Redoran knights and Ashlander tribesmen.

The cost was high, though, and the initial casualty figures estimate around 8,500 Redoran-Ashlander casualties as a result of the engagement, and another 500 or so from skirmishes and scouts being captured.

On the Kamal side, the cavalry took most of the brunt, with only one fourth of the original 4,000 surviving. The main force also experienced heavy combat, with a believed 3,000 losses in infantry and archers. The Dragoons, being on horseback, managed to evade most of the intense combat and were generally unscathed. The Akaviri generals, initially celebrating their successes, became livid upon hearing of Baan Malur's reinforcements.

"They might last another year with that stock, for all we know!" Dre'Assood Gji-Kamal bellowed at his lackeys, swiping the map off the table in a fit of rage. In fact, the large shipment of Kwama eggs and saltrice, although frugal, was supposed to last the populace up to 3 months, if properly rationed.

While the population of Baan Malur was saved for now, the mood was one of mourning, and remembrance for the many brave Redoran and Ashlanders who had fallen in battle. They were celebrated as worthy and devout heroes, a rite often overlooking Ashlanders, but the Redoran honored them just the same. The heroes were thanked for their timely assistance, but the Redoran leadership apologized, saying they may be trapped in Baan Malur unless they could come up with a plan of escape.

The Topal Bay
A similar sight as that of the Sea of Ghosts several weeks ago appears on the Horizon of the Topal Bay. A wicked fleet of ships wrought in Ice sail at a wind-breaking speed across the blue ocean, having bypassed Argonia and making it's way toward landfall, with it's target, Leyawiin in sight. The Nibeneans, having spotted them, sent riders to the Capitol to alert their monarch. It's estimated that some 45-50,000 Akaviri Troops are on board, well-armoured and trained; likely, they sent their best troops to what they saw as their most important target. They choose Deepscorn Hollow to make Landfall, and set up their Headquarters in a rather suspicious lair, apparently once occupied by the Madgod Sheogorath, as the story goes. They will go to siege Leyawiin from there, once their force properly organizes.

Trollz

Battle of Baan Malur 11th Morning Star, 4E 203

In high spirits against superior numbers and an enemy that has only been heard of in legend the Ashlanders, Great redoran and Trollz and crew attacked the enemy in an attempt to dislodge them. In the end it was all for nought as the fearsome Kamal of Akavir repelled the Ashlanders and maintained the siege of Baan Malur. In the early hours of the morning just as the sky was turning a light blue, the soldiers inside the city, full of wine bravado, sallied forth and engaged the Kamal head on.

The proud Dunmer knights of the noble House of Redoran took the enemy initially by surprise and the initial impact did much damage to their camps. Sirs Mazog, Jaquavis, and Plutarch joined the infantry. Medea attached herself to the archer regiments to use her skills in destruction to give them flaming arrows, and lob destruction spells from a distance herself. The fleeting sense of invincibility soon wore off after the initial assault as the Kamal, rouse began to display tremendous demonic powers of ice. Apt mages they began dumping spells into the frontlines of the city defenders, even killing some of their own. After this they reorganized themselves, and quite quickly drew their melee weapons and swept into the fray. The three Legionaires stood their ground with the Great redoran infantry, but in the Kamal counter assault Sir Jaquavis was badly injured. Sir Plutarch seeing his friend wounded threw his mighty steel hammer trough an enemy Kamal fighter and picking up his comrade, carried him back to the city to be tended to before rejoining the fight.

At this moment the Ashlanders became anxious and launched out of their hidden locations behind the enemy at their mage divisions, hoping to distract the enemy and still try to win the battle. To a degree they were successful. The hardened Ashlanders along with Trollz and Maerwyn managed to catch the Kamal ice mages off guard and slaughter many of them. With several hundred of their mages dead the enemy realized the ambush, and reorganized. Akavirs numbers proved too great in the end for the Ashlanders despite their skill and several of the Akavir light infantry engaged the Ashlanders as the sun rose full visibly over the scene. At first it seemed the Akavir, interested in the Ashlanders wished to test them, infantry on infantry, and the Ashlanders held their ground almost even matched with Kamal, their spears and short swords dancing between Akaviri blades. Unit against unit the Ashlanders along with Trollz going on a troll rampage and Maerwyn loosing all of his quiver managed to prevail. Just as the last Kamal light infantryman received Maerwyn's last arrow to the face, the ice demon mages sent in a barrage of spells as they had at the frontline annihilating several hundred Ashlanders in an instant. As before, the Akavir heavy infantry then burst forth against the Ashlanders sending them into a scattered rout. Dismayed at the sudden loss the survivors and Maerwyn and Trollz retreated from the field.

On the frontlines with the distraction from the Ashlanders the forces of Great redoran were able to recover many of their wounded and dead and fall back to the city of Baan Malur, fighting on their way. Though the Ashlanders were sorely defeated they bought the Dunmer much time to fall back to the security of Baan Malur, and saved much lives.

-------------

With the nightfall Trollz transformed into a cliff racer and smuggled Maerwyn and several of the Ashland warlords that survived the attack into the city to take counsel. A report was provided of the casualties on both sides and the provisions were assessed. It seems that the city can hold for about a year. However trapped inside, it is apparent help is needed to either defeat the Akaviri, or break the siege enough for the Dunmer to escape.

At the council Maerwyn points out how Trollz, being still cursed by Hircine to be a weretroll can transform into a cliffracer and take a messenger out for allies. A brief argument erupts between the parties as to who to send Trollz to for aid.

"I can go with Trollz to the Imperial City and beseech the The Emperor of Tamriel and indeed all the Empire to send up some full Legions. Though you may have to maintain the siege for a while, with a few Legions we will surely be able to defeat the Akaviri here outright. We can use Trollz in cliff racer form to smuggle in food and forage to extend and bolster our defense of the siege while we wait for the Empire to arrive with reinforcements after I have alerted the Emperor. Who can know if this force of the Kamal is the main invasion or just the beginning? This is the time that the Empire and all the provinces must unite to face a threat that only the ancient legends speak of. Surely Tamriel must survive this second invasion of the Akavir." Sir Mazog implores the generals and politicians of Great redoran.

"What has the Empire ever done for Morrowind besides try to subjugate it? It is a gamble to enlist the Empire's help, if they even come in the first place, and these Akaviri demons may try to break into the city in the time it would take for them to come. The future of Morrowind must belong to the Dunmer, it is time we reunite in the face of this enemy. Lo, only 200 some of my best Ashland warriors, young men, but all long skilled to live among the native lands Morrowind will go and regroup and harass the enemy. We may be small in number but we can call up what's lefto f our warriors to help. Our Telvanni brothers to the south may be more likely to come to our aid, and their skilled sorcerers will be an asset against Akavir's own powerful mages. They are much closer too, and perhaps with their arcane powers though we'd still be outnumbered we'd be able to open up a chance for Great redoran to abandon the city safely while still inflicting heavy casualties upon the N'Wah. Remember they are far from home, and cannot replenish their numbers so easily. We should send the troll and an envoy to the Telvanni at Sadrith Mora." The raspy voiced Dunmer chief of the tribe which Soregh and Felicity belong to speaks up and gives forth is opinion to the nobles of Great redoran

Leyawiin

The warning came two days in advance as the cutter and riders returned to Leyawiin, warning of a large force of Akaviri troops, whom all looked sinister, bloodthirsty and ready for battle. The rider that had been sent to Morrowind returned of stories of war and battle and it further legitimized the threats coming to the Empire. General Saciand's forces remained a day out of Leyawiin but was assured that they would return by dawn tomorrow. The Eighth Regiment from Water's Edge and the Sixth Regiment from Blankenmarch arrived to reinforce the First Army, mustering 30,000 men in total. The Warhorse Battalions from both Fort Bulwark and Redwater, arrived within the hour with 400 horsemen in total. Once the Second Army would arrive, the Nibeneans would have a total 50,000 men at their command. The 30,000 men mobilized inside of Leyawiin, building wooden watchtowers along the beachwalls of Leyawiin with archer nests on every story. The catapult emplacements in the city were armed with oil containers for any Akaviri ships hoping to sail up to Leyawiin, as well as six lines of iron chains stretched across the Niben River to impede any enemy vessels hoping to flank the defense.

"We have received word from our scouts that the vanguard has landed at Deepscorn Hollow and for the moment is gathering their forces for attack. Forty-five to Fifty-thousand warriors, if our scouts are correct. But, my plan will hopefully take many of those out of the fight before they can even arrive at Leyawiin." The Emperor said as his generals and admirals surrounded the war room table. Our 400 horses will lead the Vanguard as General Saciand's 15,000 men lie in wait from Bogwater to Tidewater Cave. In the darkness of night, all 400 horses will attack the Akaviri encampments outside of Deepscorn. When the cavalry charges, General Saciand's fifteen-thousand will charge south and drive the Akaviri into the sea. Precisely one hour before the attack, I want 10,000 men from the First Army to march south to Tidewater under the command of General Adraria and be Saciand's reinforcements. If this is successful, we will push the Akaviri out before they can gain anymore ground in our lands. If we lose...." Emperor Arratius sighed with anxiety.

"If we lose the opening attack, whatever forces left will retreat to Leyawiin and rejoin the 20,000 troops from the First Army in the defense of Leyawiin. The Fourth Army in Rimmen will journey to Bravil and merge with the Third Army and march south to Leyawiin should we be in need for reinforcements. If the defense fails and the 4th and 3rd Armies cannot repulse the attackers, then whatever remains of our military will regroup at Bravil for one final defense before we are lost." Said the Emperor.

"We would not accept help from that Mede N'wah if he came in here and licked our boots!" shouted back Fathas Venim, a notoriously chauvinistic Redoran Councillor.

"What my colleage means to say," grumbles Llethyn Ramoran, shooting Fathas a disdainful glare, "Is that accepting help from the Empire sets a dangerous precedent. My father was alive in the Septim Era, and we did not appreciate the Empire's presence, military or otherwise. Besides, they surrendered all dominion over us when they fled Dagon's Invasion from Oblivion." Heated discussion between the Councillors continued for a half-hour, but they all concluded and agreed(An incredibly rare happening) that the Empire could not be called upon. Besides, said Rilms Sarethi, could they even defend us? They lost the war to those ponderous imbeciles from Summerset.

Despite the consensus, the 3 Legionnaires, the first to be seen in Blacklight for centuries, were regarded highly by the Redoran Council, and each was awarded. Jaquavis, recovering from his injuries, was given a treasured Ebony Shortsword, called a Shimsil with both Fortify Sneak and Chameleon abilities. To Plutarch, the portly Imperial, they gave a copy of The Hope of the Redoran, a treasured story of a past noble and his purported omen of protection. They hoped it may temper his pride. And finally, to Sir Mazog, one of the few good orcs, as Fathas Venim put it, they gave the treasured Gauntlets of the Horny Fist, a legendary item taken in a siege of a Telvanni fortress. They were said to fortify hand-to-hand for 30 seconds when cast.

Trollz wrote:

The Redoran looked at each other in complete shock. "Abandon Baan Malur?" One asked. "Ask the Telvanni for help?!" said an incredulous councillor. "We could not possibly leave the city to the Kamal," says Arys Llethri, "Or they would have a permanent stronghold on Tamriel. We would have to root them out, and destroy our capital in the process." Fathas Venim says, "Besides, these walls can hold forever. It is shameful defeatism you suggest, Ashlander." The Redoran shook their heads and once more firmly agreed, a once in a millennia occurrence, that they could not abandon the Capital. On the topic of Reinforcement, the Redoran were more open. "We could never ask the Telvanni," says Arobar, "not only would they not help, but they'd hold it over us forever. No, their pride is too great and we shall not inflate it further." They spoke long of calling the Dres, fellow traditional nativists and Dunmer warriors, but they believed them to be too weakened after the Argonians had taken Dres Tyr and left them only the Arnesian Jungle.

"Obviously Sadras is in no hurry to help us. Every defeat of ours means more ambition toward our land." Speaks Archmaster Garys Redoran, teleporting into the chamber via a recall spell. "This leaves us only one realistic ally; the Indoril." The other Redoran, obviously taken aback by the sudden appearance of their only superior, all meekly agreed, and the messengers were sent. It could only be hoped that Mournhold would answer, when Blacklight called for aid.

With the matters of state finished, the Archmaster Garyn personally thanks the three adventurers, Maerwyn, Medea, and slightly reluctantly Trollz as well. He awards each with an ebony weapon of their choosing, and a sincere thanks for their actions to save the Redoran, and all Tamriel.

The nibenean empire

Outside of the Akaviri Encampment

With cooperation between old time friends and notable officers, Generals Saciand and Adraria's plan was set. All forces were established and waiting, the horses, lined up in uniform formation all awaiting orders. From what the scouts reported, the Akaviri were still gathering strength, remaining patient and capable that they would easily defeat the Nibenean Empire. In the darkness of night, General Saciand ordered the Horsemen's spearheads to be wrapped in cloth and covered in pitch, the bowmen's arrows to be wrapped in similar fashion and they would set the night aflame, hopefully sending fear and doubt into the minds of the mindless Akaviri that would hope to match the forces of Nibenea. With one decisive attack, Saciand and Adraria would send the Akaviri scurrying back.

And so the order was given. The arrows were lit first, Saciand's modification of the original plan. She wanted to send arrow storms into the camp, hopefully scattering and confusing the Akaviri before the horses charged like a sea of death onto the encampments. In a single, quiet hand motion, the arrows were nocked, drawn and losed to the Akaviri, and with the other hand, Saciand ordered the charge. Screams could be heard as the four hundred horses charged at once, their spears lit and producing an ungodly amount of light. The Nibeneans screamed and shrieked with pride and adrenaline as they all had a single motive: kill them all. Over the hills they charged at fast speeds, spears hung low, ready to impale their targets and though they were filled with adrenaline and anger, the Akaviri remained stalwart and had quickly regrouped from the arrow storm. As the horses met at the outer camps borders, snow demons rushed them, tearing the vanguard apart and ripped through horses and men at breakneck speeds. The cavalry charge was being slaughtered as the quick and lethal talons of the Kamal and any who made it past were savaged by serpent-men, who wrapped around the horsemen and tore their heads from their necks. Though the Warhorses were being brutalized, they were ensuring that they took just as many with them. Spears impaled hundreds of snow demons and serpent-men and following close behind were the brave warriors of Saciand's ground force, who met the snow demons with shield and sword. Within the first thirty seconds of the attack, the cavalry had been reduced to half their numbers and with their surprise and speed withered down, they were being torn apart and soon enough, the cavalry had been recalled with only a few dozen horses remaining.

As the fifteen thousand men swept down from the north, east and west, they faced heavy resistance and soon the advance was slowed to a halt and their momentum was lost. With Saciand's forces stagnated, the force wouldn't last long against the fierce species of Akavir and General Adraria's 10,000 men were called to march. Snow Demons and serpent-men ripped through the Nibenean frontlines as the size and ferocity of the creatures of Kamal and the elusiveness of the creatures of Tsaesci outmatched the shield walls, spears and swords of the men. No good defense could be utilized and Saciand's forces were being routed. After such a costly few minutes of battle, the western front was breaking as Akaviri were slipping through and counter-attacking the flank of the central force, causing immense damage. General Adraria's men arrived quickly dispatched the three dozen or so Akaviri that slipped through and reinforced the western and central front, allowing the tired troops of Saciand's to fall to the rear and defend. With four hundred bowmen lying in reserve at the forward camp, General Saciand ordered arrow barrages at the rear of the Akaviri encampment, hoping to claim as many flank guards as they could to instill further chaos. Thousands of human and Akaviri bodies littered the battleground, so much so that troops from both sides were now standing on the dead, fighting, slaughtering each other.

As much as the top officers of the Empire were confident in their Army's ability to repulse the Akaviri landing, they had no experience fighting Akaviri and the attack couldn't be sustained. 8,000 men from Saciand's force and 6,000 of Adraria's force were killed in the fighting. With less than half of their forces left and the Akaviri still fighting strong, General Saciand called a retreat, which was ignored by General Adraria, who believed with continued resolve, the Akaviri would be forced into the sea and leave. Unable to retreat and leave Adraria's force to be slaughtered, Saciand ordered her force to re-engage. General Adraria left the forward camp with his own personal guard and joined the fight, raising the morale of his troops for the time he was there, before he was ripped in half by serpent-men. With General Adraria dead and the western and eastern fronts collapsing, General Saciand ordered a slow retreat, keeping the fronts unbroken as they had hoped the Akaviri would back off and assess their wounded. They did not. The Akaviri continued their relentless assault and the slow retreat ordered by Saciand had now become an unorganized frenzy of running soldiers, being chased closely by Akaviri. General Saciand's forward camp was soon assaulted by Akaviri forces, unaware that her forces were now completely scattered and after a brief defense by the four-hundred bowmen and 64 warhorses, General Saciand was captured. By the end of the battle, the 25,000 strong Nibenean force was decimated with barely 3,000 surviving, only 1,700 of whom returned to Leyawiin. News traveled quickly to Emperor Medora of the defeat. With General Adraria dead and Saciand captured, the Empire suffered a stunning strategic and tactical defeat at the hands of the Akaviri. The 20,000 troops prepared the defense of Leyawiin under the command of General Odenius. Changes had been made to the secondary plan and 30,000 men from 3rd and 4th Armies crossed at the Mouth of the Panther and moved southward, stopping at Fort Doublecross and making camp, ensuring that no Akaviri attempted to invade northward. Once the Akaviri attack Leyawiin, those 30,000 would sweep down from the North and counter-attack, hopefully sending the Akaviri assault reeling back to the beaches and out of the Empire. The remaining 13,500 would travel to Leyawiin to support the defense.

Deepscorn

With hands bound, face beaten and armor ripped and torn, General Epolva Saciand was paraded through the lines of Akaviri as they howled and screamed at her towards Deepscorn. Through blackened eyes and swollen cheeks, she looked up to see what remained of her army, hanging from the towers and walls of Deepscorn, some still groaning and screaming. She lost her strength and fell to the ground, her escort of serpent-men slamming their feet upon her body as she winced in pain. Her normally silvery blonde hair was now browned with dirt and blood. Her breastplate was stripped off and her chainmail was ripped, exposing her bare shoulders. As she attempted to rise, she felt a strike to her stomach, sending her sideways, grasping at her gut. She was grabbed by her neck and raised from the ground, suffocating and trying to wrench the hand off of her, to no avail.

"Mighty Nibenean no more!" Shouted the serpent-man who had grabbed her in broken common tongue. Her vision began to fade as they continued walking towards the bridge that led to Deepscorn, with tens of thousands of Akaviri raising hell on both sides of it.

The Defense of Leyawiin

The bells tolled loud across the city as Emperor Medora stood within the Great Hall, staring at the large painting of his father while his servants helped him strap his armor to him. "Your Majesty." He heard a quiet voice from the entrance of the Hall call out to him. The voice matched that of General Odenius, Commander of all Nibenean troops in Leyawiin.

"The Akaviri are here."

***

Emperor Medora looked over the battlements to see the forests burning, illuminating the night well enough to see the thousands of serpent-men and demons approaching. His scouts had reported that the main Akaviri force had cross the Niben and laid waste to Greyland, setting the forests on fire as they marched, leaving behind destruction and smoke.

The Swordsmen departed their barracks, marching in perfect formation to their designated posts. The city gates were closed and locked shut. The Bowmen marched up the stairs to the battlements, lining up in threes. The catapult crews climbed the ladders to the wooden towers upholding the Catapults across the city. The support crews lifted the oil canisters to the top to be loaded and thrown at the enemy.

An animalistic chanting could be heard from the droves of Akaviri which grew louder the closer they approached. Emperor Medora frowned at the sight of such an undisciplined force. No organization in their marching and no set uniform guidelines. The enemy was still too far outside the Bowmen's range, but not for the catapults.

"Catapults! Load!" In response, the loading crews picked up their oil canisters and loaded them into the catapult's cups.

"Catapults! Light and Aim!" Shouted the Commander's voice once more. The torches were lit and the crew sighted in the Catapults.

"Launch!" The ten catapults above the city loosed their flaming canisters towards the enemy lines, smashing into the ground and setting the twenty foot radius aflame, coating many warriors in it's burning oils.

"Bowmen! Nock your arrows!"

The Akaviri charged, shrieking in an unsettling manner as they left their burning warriors behind. They approached like a sea of death, swords, axes and knives raised high.

"Draw!" The archers pulled back their arrows in their bows, staying deathly still as they all picked their targets. They waited for the Akaviri to draw closer.

"Loose!!" Screamed the Commander. The arrows sped off like a dark cloud towards the enemy, resulting in catastrophic losses for the forces of Akavir, who continued their dead sprint towards the city's southern gate.

"Reinforce the Southern Gate! Prepare for battle!" Platoons of fifty warriors sped towards the southern gate and established a shield wall with pikes jutting out of it. On the nearby buildings, Bowmen took up position. In an instance, the Akaviri horde crashed into the gate, causing it to splinter and slam as the thick wooden doors moaned and the hinges groaned. The Bowmen on the battlements continued their barrage, sending forth an unending storm of slaughter, of which the Akaviri seemed to ignore, no matter how many warriors they lost.

"Drop the oil!" With the order, support troops rolled in five barrels of oil, mounted them on the edge of the wall overlooking the Akaviri and opened them up, sending 93 gallons splashing down onto the enemy slamming into the gates.

"Light them up!" With a single arrow wrapped in cloth and pitch and set aflame, the countless enemy warriors that were savaging the gate were reduced to charcoal as their screams filled the air and the Akaviri retreated. The Bowmen cheered and shrieked in victory as they reviled in their success. Even the Emperor loosened a smile from his lips. Their cheers died down as they heard a bellowing horn from the burning forests, a low and menacing horn that signaled nothing good for the Nibeneans. Massive rocks were thrown into the air from near the Akaviri encampment, sailing right for Leyawiin.

"Take cover!" Yelled a voice as the rocks smashed into the city, collapsing buildings and sending two catapult towers crumbling down. Another rock was launched, smashing right into the wall where the Emperor stood, collapsing the entire section and ending the lives of many of the bowmen standing near there. In the chaos and confusion, the Akaviri launched another charge, this time pouring through the collapsed portion of Leyawiin's wall, engaging Nibenean swordsmen.

The Counter attack

As the Akaviri flooded into the city, they slowly and steadily pushed the Nibeneans back from the gate and the wall, but not without heavy casualties for them. Just in the entry assault alone, the Akaviri lost 4,000 warriors to arrows, catapults, and burning oil.

The counter assault had begun. The 30,000 Nibeneans launched their initial attack on the Akaviri forward camp, slaughtering their way through the camp and neutralizing the enemy catapults. With most of their remaining force taking Leyawiin, the Akaviri could not withstand the overwhelming number of Imperials turning the camp to a smoldering ruin. In time, the Emperor's reinforcements arrived, smashing into their flanks and sending their force into chaos. Within minutes of the attack, the Akaviri called their retreat, losing more than half of their force to the surprise attack. Out of the 40,000 Akaviri tasked with taking Leyawiin, 27,000 were killed in the Defense of Leyawiin. Whatever remained of the Akaviri force fled back to Deepscorn and Leyawiin had been saved for the time being. Emperor Medora was found in the rubble of the wall, severely injured and on the brink of death. General Odenius was killed in the city.

What The Tide Brings In 16th Morning Star, 4E 203

Near the coast Trollz, Maerwyn, Medea, Sirs Mazog, Jaquavis, Plutarch, and the surviving Ashlanders led by Soregh and his father-in-law creep upon the docked Akaviri Kamal ships. With the bulk of the Kamal army putting Baan Malur of Great redoran under heavy siege, the ships are only lightly guarded with a single battalion of heavy infantry. Redoran had presented the adventurers with some decent ebony weapons, but declined both the Ashland Chief's advice to request reinforcements from House Telvanni as well as Sir Mazog's plea to inform the The Emperor of Tamriel and summon the Imperial Legions to aid.

"It seems that the Redoran are pinning their hopes on House Indoril and Mournhold. What for? I thought them Argonians controlled that." Maerwyn asks his companions.

"Much has happened in the months you've been Solstheim. Mournhold has gained independence following the internal vacuum in Argonia following the collapse of political class from Goodnamesarealltakenvania and South federalist. Morrowind has been totally freed of Argonian slavery, but a new race of invaders has arrived on Tamriel's shores just as the Dunmer have begun to recover and form independent kingdoms." Sir Mazog explains to Maerwyn and Medea whom have long been enjoying the quiet life in Solstheim.

"Well that's their affair ain't it. They don't want our help, and frankly who wants to die? We'll do them one last favor and destroy these Akaviri ships and their supplies and commandeer one for ourselves and get the heck out of here. You all can do whatever you like, but I want a ship and I'm going far away from these wars and dramas and problems. Anyone who wishes can come with me. Do we have a deal?" Maerwyn turns the attention of his companions to the ships in the distance as the sun goes down.

-----------------------------------------

Nightfall gently blankets the scene, it is a dark night and the stars shine brightly. Torchlight can be seen scattered around the shores as the sparse Kamal patrol. On the outskirts of the initial landing zone of this Second Akaviri Invasion, the torch of a guard falters a bit and then is extinguished. On the other extreme side of the enemy camp a pair of torches drop and go out immediately. Maerwyn draws back one of the special Ebony Arrows that Great redoran gave him in his bow, taking careful aim he releases it at the guard closest to him, hearing the enemy gasp in the distance telling him his shot hit he swiftly reloads and sends another shaft of the dark arrow into the black air. The torch just ahead of him falls to the ground, and he runs forward and puts it out.

Soregh and his father-in-law come up on two more patrolling Kamal as they stealth their way in the left flank. Hurling his spear with great force, the raspy voice Ashlander chief impale one Akaviri invader while Soregh coming out of stealth from the side leaps up and decapitates that other. Giving the signal more Ashlanders advance from the shadows deeper into the encampment picking the Akavir off one by one.

On the right flank, Sir Jaquavis dashes forward and picks off another guard as he turns his back, the Redguard stabs the enemy in the neck so he cannot scream and with the other blade delivers a killing blow severing the ice demon's spine. Motioning to those following him they go to proceed deeper into the enemy camp. The stillness is suddenly broken though as Trollz walks through an unseen clothes line on which some pots and pans are hanging making an awful clanging. Suddenly the guard turns towards them and inside the tents the strange speech of the Akaviri can be heard. After an awkward pause Sir Plutarch gives a mighty shout and dashing into a nearby tent thrashes two Kamal violently to death with his new ebony warhammer. Sir Jaquavis and some young Ashlander greet the patrol head on dispatching them before they can draw their swords. Kamal begin rushing out of their tents armed, and engaging the party on the right flank

Commotion fills the air as the moons come out from behind the lone clod in the sky illuminating the scene. Trollz by Medea's side is fending off several Kamal while she flings spells at them. Sir Mazog is dueling one on one with a mighty looking Kamal. A few Ashlanders have fallen to the strong Kamal as they begin to coalesce and face the right flank attack, but with another twist of surprise from their read, the left flank suddenly fall upon them. Cutting straight through the Akavir, the Ashland Chief and Soregh confront the Kamal captain left in charge of this outpost. With the roar of a animal caught in a cage the captain launches himself at the Ashlander Chief and the two began parrying and striking at eachother, sword versus spear. Casting break weapon at the same time he bring a downward power attack the Kamal captain snaps the Ashland Chief's spear in twain as he blocks it. In one fluid motion however the old but still strong Dunmer leaps upwards, grabs on to the Akavir's arm and pulling the enemy in towards himself, stings the broken end of his spear into the enemy's neck. Soregh gives his father-in-law one of his swords and they press back into the fight.

After about an hour the small detachment of Akavir is dispatched, caught in total surprise by the Ashlanders. The Ashlanders suffered only 15 casualties, with 3 wounded. The Ashlanders spent the next hours lightly looting the sip for food and weapons of what can be taken back to their various tribes. Spreading oil and alcohol and any combustible material over all but two of the ships, Medea set the invasion fleet ablaze destroying their ships and other supplies. The forces encamps here for the night preparing one of the ships for Maerwyn and his companions.

--------------------------------

Sleeping only a few hours after loading up the ship, Maerwyn is suddenly awaken by the sound of Trollz giving a trollshriek. Everyone on board the ship rushes out to the deck while on the beaches the Ashlanders stir and also give a shout. Trollz jumping up and down points out to sea at the distant horizon. Maerwyn looks in the distance his weary sleep ridden eyes sea fuzzy dots all seemingly moving in faster. He rubs his eyes looking down and grabs a telescope he found in the captain's room of the ship. Putting it up to his eyes his face falls seeing the banners bearing a snake and Akaviri language. At least a hundred ships, with what can only be described as snakemen slithering on the decks coming right for them.

"We have to get out of here now. We have warn Great redoran." Maerwyn shouts and runs over to the ship and jumps overboard with a splash and runs ashore.

"The prophecy is true...." The Ashlander Chief says to himself as the camp scrambles to escape the scene. Starring fixedly at the approaching second wave of invaders he recounts the legends of old about the First Akaviri Invasion. "The Tsaesci...The ill tides of Azura bring in when destiny ebbs and flows! When the Great of the N'Wah, sea serpents, arrived on Vvardenfell's shores."
