Welcome to The North Pacific!

Welcome to The North Pacific (TNP)! You might be a new nation to the game or in TNP, and you don't really know what is going on or where to start. Or you may be an experienced member but have several questions regarding some of the activities going on. Whatever the case, we have put together this handbook that you can use to familiarize yourself with the game and TNP, and to make the most out of your time in NationStates (NS).

The handbook has a number of different sections. The index below will help you navigate them. If you have any questions not answered in this handbook, feel free to send a telegram to Delegate Kaschovia, Minister of Home Affairs Lionsroar, or any of the Gameside Advocates and Mentors. They will be glad to help! Additionally, we are always looking to improve this handbook, so let us now if you think something should be added or changed.

Onboarding Checklist

This section covers the very first items you should check off as a newcomer to the game and TNP.

  • Why you should be in TNP: Selecting a region for your nation is one of the most important decisions you will make in the game. We hope you will make TNP your home, and this link explains why. If you have already decided to stay here, that's great!

  • Join the regional forum: The forum is where most government and roleplay activities take place. Registering an account is very easy. You should get yourself an account so that you can check out what's going on and join in on the fun.

  • Join our regional chat: Our Discord server is where our members hang out and chat about the game and real life subjects. You can join and introduce yourself to our community. Additionally, if you have any questions, asking on Discord is the fastest way to get help.

  • Apply for citizenship: Citizenship is your ticket to TNP. As a citizen, you can vote to elect our Delegate and other government officials, hold them accountable, and even run for these positions yourself. All you need to apply is a nation in TNP and an account on the forum.

Ways to Get Involved

Now that you have cleared the basics, you must be looking for things to do. Below are some of the opportunities TNP offers.

  • Get involved in the government: There are many ways to get involved in the government straight away after joining TNP. You can write the regional laws in the Regional Assembly. You can take part in the day-to-day running of the region in the Executive Staff. Or, you can protect TNP at home and abroad in the North Pacific Army.

  • Get involved in the World Assembly: Joining the World Assembly (WA) is one of the best ways to empower your nation, especially in TNP. Thanks to our WA Development Program, as a WA member you can determine international laws, have one of the highest endorsement counts in the entire game, and even win awards!

  • Get involved in RolePlay: We have not one, but two vibrant RolePlay (RP) universes, Eras and Strangereal. Each comes with its own map, chronology, and physics laws. If you commit to being active in RP, you can claim a spot in either universe's map, and join others in weaving stories about your nation and its role in the world.

  • Get involved in trading cards: Our regional cards guild provides many resources you can take advantage of to increase the value of your deck, including several offerings of free cards. As a member of the guild, you can also participate in many other cards-related activities, including themed collections, pull events, and regular publications.

Regional Publications

Through our regional nation, The Northern Light, we post a number of regular regional publications. You can follow them to stay up to speed with what's going on in TNP.

  • The Northern Lights: Produced by the Ministry of Communications, this is our regional newspaper. It includes both general news and op-ed articles about various aspects of TNP and NS.

  • The North Star: Produced by the Ministry of Communications, The North Star informs TNPers of current internal matters and government activities.

  • The Roleplay Reel: Produced by the Ministry of Communications, The Roleplay Reel showcases roleplay works by members of TNP's two RP communities.

  • The Monthly Snapshot: Produced by the Cards Guild, The Monthly Snapshot includes news about trading cards.

  • Press Releases: Produced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, press releases focus on news about the Executive Government, elections, and other regional issues of general interest.

  • Regional Assembly Digest: Produced by the Speaker's Office, the digest focuses on news about the legislative and other business of the Regional Assembly.

  • Information for WA Voters: Produced by the Ministry of WA Affairs, IFVs provide vote recommendations and analysis about all resolutions that reach the floor of the General Assembly or Security Council.

  • Weekly Anthologies: Produced by the Gameside Advocates, this series highlights dispatches produced by TNP nations.

  • Northern Broadcasting Service: Produced by the Ministry of Radio, this is our very own regional radio station in which our broadcasters provide their insight into current events in TNP and Nationstates.

  • WADP Awards: Produced as part of the WADP, this monthly publication presents regional awards to nations that actively participate in the World Assembly.

  • Literary Awards: Produced by the Gameside Advocates, this monthly publication presents regional awards to nations that actively post on the regional RMB or publish dispatches.

Other Useful Links

Below are miscellaneous resources useful for all nations.

  • Government index: Get to know your government by using this list of all government officials in TNP. If you have questions or suggestions about any aspect of the regional governance, feel free to send a telegram to the corresponding government official.

  • Law index: This is a compilation of all legal documents currently in force in TNP. This includes our Constitution and Bill of Rights, which form the basis of our government.

  • RMB Guidelines: Posting on the regional message board (RMB) is a great way to socialize and get to know other TNP nations. Just make sure to follow these guidelines.

  • World Assembly voting policy: Look here to learn how TNP's Delegate casts the regional vote on World Assembly resolutions, and how you can help determine that vote.

  • Embassy policy: If you are here as a diplomat from another region, please take a look at our policy for in-game and forum embassies.

  • Recruitment policy: If you are here to recruit for another region, please take a look at our policy on permissible and prohibited types of recruitment.

And yeah, I talked to Montarc about it, he okayed it. It’s a 1v1. Heulia doesn’t have an alliance.

I actually joined an alliance yesterday. I don't remember us discussing outcomes. I haven't woeldbuilt a military at least not completely. However I will point out "80%" of military funda is naval according to a facrbook, and no amphibious assault ships or carriers of lapathiya's so unless lapathiya changes that I am quite confident that lapathiya doesn't have the capability to overwhelm Heulia if there is significant resistance so we can't really harm each other much. Lapathiya would need to capture a port first to actually invade and from then on hold ground.

Of course we can always say heulia joined the alkiance after assuming lapathiya doesn't pull a unexpected trick up his sleeve and the war doesn't last multiple years or we can work something out.

Preparations
The Arctic is going all-in with the preparations for the coronation. A grand new palace is being built for the emperor. The union has never had such a massive and beautiful building. Architects from all around the world are working on it. Only the finest materials are being used. Two massive statues of lions are staying proudly in the palace entrance. The whole building is constructed and filled with marble, gold, silver and precious stones. A person can get lost in the massive rooms and halls. The finest paintings and furniture decorates the rooms. Construction and decoration are continuing. Athenos is being set up for the massive celebration. Streets and buildings are covered with decorations. No impurity is being left. Only the best for the new Tsar and union!

First acts of Parliament and growth
The united government has many topics to tackle. One of its first decision was to completely modernize and industrialize the whole country, including the north-east and the southern island. The process of uniting the countries bureaucracy is almost completed. Another process of terraformation is being set up for the colder and untouched regions of the empire. Massive subsidization of the business is also pursued. Welfare programs have sprung up. The economy and standards of living are finally recovering. Great times await the Arctic!

Naomi must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed, because she wanted to hurl. She rose to the mark of dawn; as always, up early before her recruits, only this time, she felt ill. Naomi pondered skipping exercise for an extra hour of rest, and as good as it sounded, she turned it down. She had an example to set. She had a throne to fight for.

She concluded it was worst for her to relax and thus, she sharpened her gut and reluctantly, peeled herself from her cot. She awkwardly spun to her thin copper tub in the corner of the caromed room. It spewed disgust, as were signs from the cob webs that swallowed its bottom half and the dent in its faucet. She frowned. Nevertheless, anything to help her headache was a positive, so she slowly dipped into the tub. She relaxed her shoulders which grew increasingly tenser by the day’s and began washing out her hair. Naomi considered cutting it shorter, but never found the time. Moving onto her back, which had been caked in sweat and grime, she was quick to clean it. However, it wasn’t long for the bath water to churn into a musty gray. Ignoring it, Naomi peered into her reflection in the murky water. What stared back was a young girl, kidnapped from her family, enslaved, and beaten. But the girl was given a chance one day, to reverse it. She would slaughter her captors, make them plea until they could only croak out blood, and live just a second longer to watch everything they built be burned. Naomi quickly looked away, tearing the connection, but she couldn’t ignore her past, or in that matter, future. She blinked once, twice, and stopped shaking.

Having bathed, Naomi slipped into her third most formal attire, complimented by a golden amulet that snuggly rested between her breasts. Another golden bracelet, with an amber ruby in the middle, was fitted onto her left wrist, though it seemed tainted with dirt, most likely from training. She glanced into the mirror and her outfit appeared lackluster, though she didn’t particularly care for looks, what worried her was the vision. Sluggishly walking out of her “luxurious” cabin, she snuck a peak at the artwork of the morning sky. Bright, the sun burnt a scarlet red amidst the clash of flaring blues and purples that swallowed the rest of the cloudless air. Unappreciative, Naomi continued her drunk walk down seven flights of stainless steal stairs, through a secret hallway or two, and past the men’s lockeroom—which she might have cared to stop by.

Finally, ending her journey at the kitchen. She swung by the bar and ordered a drink or five. But her goal to was to stay as sober as possible before war, something she hadn’t done in a long while. Nowadays, everything felt fuzzy, blurred together in a smudge; however, it was mainly the result from staying so isolated, so removed...

“Miss?” the bartender huffed, he rested his bulky arm on the table, “your drink?”

“Yes, sorry,” Naomi turned to face him, he bore a scar over his eye and one down his neck, “Thank you.” She quickly flashed her hand into her purse and pulled out five five hundred Avuronian Jewels.

“General Naomi, it’s an honor to meet your acquaintance and be graced a hefty prize! I most heartedly apologize for my misbehavior,” he smiled a toothless grin with chunks of metal for teeth.

“Don’t be sorry, I’m having... mishaps this morning,” she looked sidelong at the wall on her right. A painting of a young man and woman. She rolled her eyes and snorted. He followed her eyes and shared a cackle, before turning his back and walking back into the kitchen.

A few minutes later, the bartender returned, gauntlets in hand with foam bubbling over the sides. “It’s not much, buts it’s on me—“ he swore under his breath as the mistress was gone, but so was an ashy hole in the wall.

———————————————————————

The sparring room was empty, as per usual, she was the only one awake this early. As much as a burden it was to be the early bird, she didn’t mind the quiet.

Sickly tumbling over to a red sandbag, Naomi attempted a first heavy blow, but her fish gingerly scraped the bag’s face. Naomi stared in disbelief, maybe I should’ve gone for an extra hour of rest, she was discontent. Again, she reached for a powerful punch, but the bag barely flailed.

She screamed in agony, and the bag incinerated. She fell to her the knees, and blood dripped from her nose. The world around her went black as night, and all Naomi remembered was the blaring sound of sirens...

The missiles camp from the sky, breaking the clouds in a horrendous torrent of metal and fire. Luckily, spite of their numbers the Merian rocket attack proved ineffective, though ten convoys were damaged beyond repair. This did set the precedent, Avuron was at war, and in a war they wouldn’t lose.

In Avuron. . .

“Queen Scarlet?”

“Yes Minister Jeffrey?” Scarlet asked, annoyed.

“You gave her the poison correct?” And despite his best attempts, a tone of fear lingered on his breath, seeping on his words.

“Indeed so, minister,” Scarlet replied, reluctantly.

“She’ll make it through the invasion phase, correct? And her powers, they’ll—“

“Diminish,” Scarlet interrupted, “they’ll diminish.”

“Spectacular! We can resume our assault and let the medicine run its course. Soon, she’ll cease her being a potential hostility to the empire,” Jeffrey exclaimed, jetting his hands into the air.

“There’s one problem Jeffrey”

“That is my dearest leader?”

“She wasn’t my only threat.”

In his bunker, Meredith were doing the paperworks for the order of the Legion, the proud soldiers of Meria. Foreigners that willing to die for Independence and freedom. Men like Meredith himself... To be frank, Meredith were a quite a secretive person, he never told his friends about his life, about how he was. But now, when his life is at risk. Hes writing a letter back home after 20 years. Since his birth, a man at the age of 29, finally wrote a letter back home. To his dear home.

Dear mother, its me. Meredith, Its been awhile isn't it? How is Father? When i moved to the Capital and studied to be a officer, i forgotten of home. More like, i was hiding from the life that Father wanted me to be. Cruel isn't it? Mother. You probably know already, i'm incharge of our Army. You're probably proud, or not. I don't mind, i was a bad kid. So mother, i wish you well. Live well. And tell Father, i will defend this land like he did, like Grandpa did. That is all, Sincerely, Meredith.

He wrote them down into the paper, then he fold it and put it into the letter mail, then he handed it to the Comms officer. Then he look at the screen of his laptop, turned off. Pitch black, reminiscing of the days... Meredith were born in the rural area of Maryland in 2041, Son to a farmer and his war sweetheart, his mother. Meredith lived a, well. A poor life, but the country never gave up on him nor his family. His father's contribution to the country were known. So he lived under pensions, free education and healthcare also helped his father. But his father, even when the war is over. Is a alcoholic, sadistic one. He always teach his son of the ways of the military, wanting him one day would be a hero like his father, a Stormtrooper of the 2nd Ranger Battalion prior it disbandment. Meredith were not that interested in the Military, he was a artist. He have and has always been interested in arts, He loves drawing. But his father didn't allows it. So he went off his way at the age of 16. But life is such a twist, the kid enrolled for the Merian Military Academy and later are known as the Merian War Hero of the war that soon to be unfold and shall be heard as ballads across the oceans about the tale of a man and a undying spirit to defend his homeland, his people... And the one he will meet and hold dear... till the day he die.

———————————————————————

Its been 1 hour since he finish the letters, which is now 9 AM, he turns on his laptop and access to the command system, the arguement were burning hot about how ineffective the missiles were...

-Commander Peter: What the hell did you do? How did you able to miss several ships aswell fail to sink them?!
-Admiral Harris: Oi Oi, we didn't miss, it just the freaking missiles didn't even scratch them, also, we sent them into hell. I was smart enough to shoot vital spots, but those ships are durable. I doubt the crews would survive through, we can fire another barrage if you want, Commander.
-Commander Peter: Forget it, withdraw the squadrons back to the designated grid square, we will provide another AWACS scan and EWS engagement, pull the ships out and spread them out like we planned and we'll intercept and neutralize them at Lotionese port- Hey there Meredith.
-General Meredith: Planning on taking all the funs, Where the spirit we had? You guys better leave them for me aswell.
-Marine Colonel Kislov: The Marines have secured the coast, but i doubt the Avuronian is planning to invade us oversea, they gonna use Lotionese Empire as engagement ground.
-Legionaire Commander Franklin: That is true Colonel Kislov, THe Legion have been deployed to the Lotionese border to fill the gap with the Army and the Air Force Ground Troops. But we will not be able to deploy the 2nd Air Defence Battalion formed out of Volunteers from Supple Lund due to ongoing civilwar in there, and the Legion priority that task above Meria.
-VP Kerry: No worries Commander, The legion formed to protect the people, not Meria. Having you on the frontline is already great enough. The 500 tanks we requested have arrived, the formation of the 2nd and the 3rd armored division aswell the 2nd Cavalry division, 8th and 9th Mechanized division is ongoing, training will take 4 weeks, which gonna be enough as the Navy is harassing Avuronian Transport fleet very effectively. By the time they come here, they probably gonna be downed to a million or lower, the lower the better.
-Admiral Harris: That is if they don't attack the navy with their battleships, you know how fragile our missile frigates and destroyers are. And they're not meant to fight battleships with cannon, we're missiles specialty.
-Commander Peter: That is if they gain air superiority over us without carrier. We got your back covered, Harris. Never worries.
-General Meredith: The Army are also ready to strike. Once they get here, we'll finish them here, only here. No retreat, no fallback.
-VP Kerry: Nice speech Meredith, well, that is all boys. Do your job, give them hell. Viva La Meria.
-The Command Staffs simultaneously said: Viva La Meria!

Random Song Lyric:
....Young men from my hometown create the marching stick.
Named its the War March Stick, Train the legs to walk pass hardmanship unbroken. Train the spirit to only know to march forward, no retreat!
Stick in hand, sweating from the march. The wood colour of hometown remind you the family back home, Like reminding you about the promises you made.
Oh~ Mountains! Why we haven't made it through?
Theres running stream, The Mountain winds, Theres tilting cliff and neverending abyss. White clouds cover our boots as we humbly marches.
Young strength moving to save the motherland~.

That wasn't a flex really I am just saying that a nation with less than 500,000 probably struggle to pull a naval invasion so unless your stat is high it would be a challenge to control the colony even though Heulia banned civilian firearms recently. and I cannot find me agreeing to unconditional surrender and the winner deciding the outcome.
