Well, I, personally am against giving my email address to ANY website online. If that means my citizenship in this astute region is revoked, so be it. I'll be on my way out shortly after it passes. As a possible representative for legitimate citizen-material nations like me who are solidly against both the WA and the SC, I sincerely hope this bill, does NOT pass. Unless the Honorable Speaker can tell me of the process by which citizenship will be denied (and it's not a matter of if - they WILL be denied), the Cazalonican vote will be AGAINST this proposal.

Giving your email address to NationStates is completely safe. I do not understand what you are talking about. You must know that a player can have only ONE WA nation. Usually, only WA nations are granted citizenship. This will ensure that the player will not create any puppets and participate in malicious activities such as election rigging. However we understand that some players genuinely want to participate in regional activities of more than one region. This bill will help them hold citizenship in UoD.

The voting shall end in next 4 hours.

So long as my citizenship, as a completely independent nation (just check the IP adresses), is not impinged, I will have no issue with this law. If, however, I am prohibited from the electoral process, I will be forced to move on from this region. I happen to like this region, and would like to stay, but the main reason I enjoy it is the free electoral system.

If you have a WA nation anywhere in this entire website, you will be remain a citizen.

The bill is passed.

Forty million tons of electronic waste (electronics/electronic accessories that are thrown away) is generated every year and only about twelve and a half percent of it is recycled. It is often full of toxic materials (examples include lead, mercury, dioxins, and cadmium). Much of it ends up in poor regions of Asia and Africa where these toxins inevitably leach into water supplies, killing aquatic life as well as severely impacting the health of land animals (including humans). Additionally, plastics involved are photodegraded into microplastics which proliferate globally at an alarming rate. (Microplastics severely impact animal health. No animal life has evolved any mechanisms to combat them.) Some simple steps can be taken to minimize your E-waste footprint:

Solutions:

1. (Reduce) Do not purchase new electronic devices unless the justification for doing so outweighs the environmental degradation that the e-waste from it will create (Of course, this is ultimately a personal judgement. However, it is easy enough to find the facts that you need to inform it).

2. (Reuse) If you find yourself with unneeded electronic hardware, try to reuse it (I have a single cable that I use to charge my shaver and water flosser.). If you cannot reuse it with other technology that you own, consider using it for other purposes. For example, I am using a broken wireless phone charging stand as a camera mount. If you cannot do any of these things, please consider selling/trading in or donating these items.

3) (Recycle) There is some E-waste that cannot be reused for one reason or another (when a cable is cut, no amount of handiness is going to restore it into a functional and safe one. Such items can be recycled easily enough. In the US, every Best Buy location accepts E-waste for recycling (I will include a link with details in my references). If you are handy and have the necessary equipment, you can recover some metals on your own.

4) (Responsible disposal. That’s right, I added a fourth R!) Unfortunately, some items like damaged batteries cannot be addressed with Rs number two and three. These should be taken to local hazardous waste collection.

Please remember that electronic waste is not just a problem impacting the environment. It is also a problem impacting human rights/health!

Fdryden Elected As President For a Second Term

The incumbent President Fdryden was elected for a second term by narrowly defeating Clovena in the July 2020 Presidential elections.

Both the candidates ran active campaigns. Here were the major policies of both the candidates:

Fdryden

  • Mandate Letters to the Cabinet

  • Compulsory WA tag for Citizenship

  • Creation of the Ethics Commisioner

  • Creation of Minister of Roleplay

  • Creation of Minister of Events, Culture and Sport

Clovena

  • New Constituion

  • Creation of the Code of Conduct

  • Creation of Minister of Roleplay, Minister of Internal Affairs and Minister of Culture

  • Dual Citizenship

  • Changing the Founder's Authority

  • Embassy Review

Several debates took place on the Regional Message Board and the regional activity was greatly increased during the period. The polling took place on the July 13 and ended on July 14. Fdryden received 4 votes, one more than Clovena (3 votes) and was elected President.

Fdryden's cabinet included his election opponent Clovena as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ohino as Minister of Recruitment and Communications.

The new nation Hopal was elected as the Vice President of the region after defeating Latiouthel. His campaign centered on a mixture of policies raised in both Fdryden and Clovena's manifestos.

Founder's Blunder

The region learnt about the dangers of misunderstandings after a recent dramatic incident where the Founder of the region, Republic of rajputana unconstitutionally dismissed President Fdryden and banjected the cabinet ministers Clovena and Ohino without even a trial.

It all started when the administration was holding discussions with Eastfield for a possible merger into the Union of Democrats. Eastfield officials declared that they will only move into the Union of Democrats if the Founder will give up his powers i.e. to hold Presidential elections.

This got the administration thinking wether they will be able to convince the Founder to give up his powers. Cabinet Ministers Clovena and Ohino voiced out their opinions that if Republic of Rajputana will not give up his powers, the region will become a dictatorship and they should leave the region.

When Republic of Rajputana saw this, he misunderstood and thought that the government was rebelling and breaking apart the region. He quickly took emergency action and dismissed the President Fdryden and kicked out Ohino and Clovena without adhering to the Constitution. He also password locked the region and appointed Republic of La Boca as Vice Delegate (a position unheard of in the region).

These actions were met by strong criticism from Fdryden who argued that these actions took place without a trial and demanded proof. Supreme Court Justice Levantx declared that these actions were illegal and demanded the Founder to retract. A case was also filed in the Assembly of Regions Supreme Court and a similar verdict was given.

When Rajputana realised his mistakes, he apologized and reached out to Fdryden and the Cabinet (who had taken refuge in Eastfield) and held a meeting. There, all the misunderstandings were resolved and the Founder decided to give up his powers on three conditions:

  • The region will remain neutral and will not incline towards any specific ideology (left, right).

  • A safe manner for conducting Presidential elections must be drafted.

  • In a merging, nations must move inside the region and must not move outside.

These conditions were accepted and the government was restored. A new Constitution is being drafted currently in a manner such that the above conditions are fulfilled and all other loopholes are removed.

Unfortunately, this event caused Eastfield to back away from the merger. It also tarnished the reputation of the region in the Assembly of Regions.

Embassy Review

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Clovena initiated the Embassy Review. This was one of the policies in their campaign. The aim of this intiative was to formulate a set of requirements for a region to fulfill, in order to establish an embassy with the Union of Democrats and close all embassies with regions that fail to meet these requirements.

Several embassies were closed as a result of this. Here is the list of all closed embassies: The Great Region, Despotic Europe, ASEAN, RAMS, Dispatchia, Non Aligned Movement and Bharat.

Embassies with Hollow Point, Train Station, International Debating Arena, The Great Universe and The New Habsburg are also being withdrawn at the moment.

On the other hand, embassies have been constructed with sizable and influential regions including The Democratic Union, The Commonwealth of Argimin, First World Order and Fylkirvegr.

Other Developments

  • Clovena was elected as the Regional Councilor to the Council of Regions in the Assembly of Regions.

  • Minister of Sports Shadowstorer organised the second edition of the Copa Democrata football tournament. The Clovena team was crowned as champions with Republic of La Boca and Ohino coming second and third respectively.

  • Long-time resident Edington was elected as Speaker of the Democratic Assembly he after defeated Shadowstorer. He received 10 votes whereas his opponent received 5.

  • The Citizenship Bill proposed by Levantx passed in the legislature. With the passing of this bill, non WA members of the region can apply for a Citizenship waiver.

Inter-regional Report

Assembly of Regions Being Revamped

The Assembly of Regions, one of the most important inter-regional organisations that the Union of Democrats is a part of, is being revamped completely after Southfield, the largest and the most influential region in the organisation decided to leave.

Southfield left the Assembly of Regions after doubts were being asked about the region's electoral roll after a member discovered a large number of non-WA citizens in Southfield who suspiciously had similar activity times. After this, India - another influential region in the organisation stepped down to associate level after they claimed that the efforts they have put into the organisation did not give them any benefits.

At this point, the organisation was at a point of steep decline. Many were accusing the organisation that it has forgotten it's original aim that is to be an alliance of regions that work together, to utilize the experience and talents of all members to aid each other.

Finally Levantx proposed a complete overhaul of the organisation and put forward a new charter. Several members agreed to this and a constitutional convention was declared. The new charter is being formulated currently by the members.

Election Durations
by Clovena

Our region is diverse. We have players from different time zones and from different age groups. Everyone of them have real life duties and responsibilities. This often causes them to stay inactive in the region for a day or two.

We must take such difficulties into consideration when we are holding polls for passing legislation or electing leaders. In the recent Presidential Elections (in which I participated), the poll was held only for a day. Due to this, many players who were busy in real life could not vote in the elections. The voter turnout was a paltry 7, one of the lowest ever.

Many players who could not vote, personally contacted me on the next day and told me that they would have voted for me if they had come on time. That could have easily assured me a victory. I'm not saying that Fdryden did not deserve to win. He's a good and able leader and is good at governing the region (as he is doing now).

What I mean to say is that, the reason for low voter turnouts in our region is that the polls are being held only for a day. No other region does this. The usual period for a poll is atleast 2-3 days.

I request the government to increase the duration of such polls because every vote is important in a democracy and we are the Union of Democrats.
