by Dreamersistan
So sure, let's do a 10-12 post thingamajig (or until i have work)
I'll be.. Alaska
<A few smart folk round people up into groups for defense and organized survival teams. They're lucky it's summer.. But it won't be forever>
<Former armed forces and new recruits wait until until dark, use low visibility and distraction to creep up on the villians and take em out. After this shocking gut-check, they realize they won't be able to get thru this dangerous time without unity>
<The inuits and former Native Alaskans teach everyone how to hunt and scout and live off the land. Energy is diverted into creating defensive fortifications and traps, finding and preserving food and fuel to keep warm, and teaching kids and the survivors how to live in a world without the internet and centralized electricity. It is a gruelling time.>
<Humans have gotten soft and not everyone wants to work, women try to manipulate their way into getting foolish men to do their work for them. And lazy men try to get other more energetic people.>
<A few leaders emerge and see what's happening. They plan together what must be done to teach these folks a lesson, and ambush those that have been doing others' work. They keep them away in a separate spot, and inform the lazy moochers the best and brightest are gone, and gangs are coming to kill them. They make these worthless dregs work hard for days on end, hunting, fishing, repairing, retooling, working the generators.>
<After four days, the team that had camped out returns. The once-lazy people, now haggard with work, are shocked. The leaders tell them what they did, and that everyone has to pitch in. Those that won't might have to be thrown out. And those that help them could suffer the same fate. Everyone will need to carry their weight. They put marks across a few men and women suspected of never being able to do their part. The community of a few thousand tries to process this new, vicious way of life. But soon the thought is pushed out of their heads by a new problem.>
<People are getting sick. They will need to raid the hospitals. But that's where the biggest gangs are. The leaders try to decide whether a night-time raid would be better, or a day-time distract fireshow while others grab the necessary meds. They scout the scene and see what they feared.. the gangs have been organizing. There are vast numbers, and snipers are mounted in hospital windows. They have generators, power.. This is not going to be easy. Meanwhile, people are getting sick as a flu-like illness spreads through the community. They will have to make the raid, ready or not>
<The other gangs in the neighboring hospitals have taken note and try to make communication. The team that's taken over the hospital in the rear lures them into providing support and knocks them off. After this, the battles don't take too long. With the hospital's supreme quality medical equipment and supplies, they send all they can back and lay siege to the Health Complex. After 5 days, the insurgents surrender. They are treated leniently, and are allowed to join into a special camp for former insurgents. In the future, they will have a chance to re-integrate into society. The medicine stops the epidemic dead in its tracks, but the doctors and researchers isolate the lethal contagion. They plan to use it on their enemies soon.>
<The first shipment of assault-quality machine guns and bullets are loaded onto vehicles. The Alaskan community now has food, shelter, defenses, medicine, fuel, heating, weaponry, education and a social system. People begin to feel optimistic about the future again. They continue to work to raise the rest of the USA on comm. They manage to get a couple of satellites responding and are shocked at the devastation. There is no USA any more. Only a number of fragmented Ses. They see a rag-tag ill-fitted army trying to approach Alaska. They feel confident they can crush them under their steel-toed boots.>
I dunno what im doing and im already bored, can u take over and play with the remnant?
'We're glad you're alive and wish you luck. Alaska is now its own country, we'll take care of our own and once we're completely settled, we'll begin taking in refugees if you have them. We're happy to see you survived. And if you don't get off our territory real quick, the Alaskan wolves will be feasting on your carcasses and only technology taking will be done by us after y'all are dead in this here wasteland. We have supplies to last here for months. You folk will run out in 8 days, and beg us for scraps and a proper fur coat.'
'Make your decision quick, boys. This is Alaska. Here, survival through the night is a feat. And the local fauna are real hungry for fresh meat.'
Let it go KA, it's over and done with.
Ermmm.. Ok, sounds like a compliment, so thanks : )
I have no idea what Unhewn throne is.
Also, since Remnant is heading West, let's meet up and create some alliance (oh u love making those dont u) and then i'll give u control
Read it. The first book is the Emperor's Blades. Don't worry, it's not a kiddie book. It's closer to GoT than YA books.
: )
The Great Lakes Republic sends a large regiment of soldiers and tanks northwest to Alaska. War planes are sent ahead for scouting and aerial supremacy strategies. The regiment prepares to pincer the RoA forces with Alaskan troops notified of the general ETA of the GLR.
the Lakes and Alaska decide to unite forces in a very loose-knit alliance, and Presidents will have to be elected. Lerasi, lets see how fast u can whip up ALaskan and Great Lakes puppets and continue to play with Remnant. Also, please develop to fruition the HAARP project that was meant to take controls of the weather here in Alaska, creating grade 4 hurricanes thru human ingenuity and the power of Tesla!
<hands control over to the Great Lakes bois, while they open their first functioning set of HAARP towers, designated 'Wyrdencliffe'>
ArenaC is contacted and a request for help is sent, due to America preparing to steamroll the nation just because people that broke the law were arrested.
Remnant of americaA statement from the North American Arenite capital of Erie notes the following requests:Not to steamroll Lerasi because some people were arrested.
ArenaC also notes that Lerasi has been requested to return the people to the Remnant(s) of America.
LerasiIt is by request of the Remnant(s) of America and the Commonwealth of ArenaC that Lerasi moves their operations north of the 49th parallel.
P O R K
And I’m not even that pissed eitherorly
We Are Slightly Displeased at your Seemingly Narcissistic Acts against those Not of Your Kind
And you, but not for long.
I SHIP IT.
Lerasi Dreamersistan You two know what this means right
I’m
Going
To
Tackle
You.
Just kidding. Unless..?
Until then, I’m just gonna expand into the rest of Pennsylvania and Ohio.
does exactly that
<At a siberian station, the Alaskans find what they've been long looking for.>
<'Look, boys' says Councilman-now-General Atilla as his eyes are reflected in the sheen of the prized object. 'Rolex watches..'>
<They don't realize they're actually fake Molexes, but that's okay, let's stop this story short before he finds out and shoot some AA* bullets into the walls>
<They find huge vats of premier russian anabolics, metabolics and nootropics and begin taking them. Alaskans learn to channel it as a constant-indwelling IV that gives them momentary bursts of strength, mental acuity, enhanced agility and endurance.>
AA* Alaskan Armorers, now the premier elite weapons manufacturers in the world
Stunning. Really good!
<The Alaskans exploring waterways come in contact with an aircarrier, out at sea, abandoned. The survivors among the sailors and pilots are nearby. They are rescued, and plans made to retake the carrier. The US navy is astonished by the power of HAARP.'>
'Well, Commander, says General Attila, 'I think the possession of this here carrier and you fine men might make us the strongest fighting force in the world again.'
'Sir', says Commander Ava Vintis, still looking at awe at the portable Wydrenclyffe 3.2b weather towers that created the storm that pushed the gigantic ship back into harbor, 'I think you had that title before you found us.'
<They begin building a dry dock and working on the broken ship. Work begins on new airforce strips, unconventional geological defenses and conventional fortifications. The Alaskan Survival retraining program is going better than imagined. But there is bad news at home>
<A message comes to them on the new communication wave technology Alaskans have perfected through the Ionosphere:
"It's the ex-gang members, sir! They're going nuts!">
<10% of the teams that went north and east return to deal with the menace. It's been a year since Alaska hasn't had gangs. They can't be allowed to spread again>
Phoenix and the multiple other cities in the area has clung onto survival.
Everyday hundreds starve, so they resolve to stealing.
But, Cowboys face them down face to face.
They fight for honor and the Cowboys carry justice.
Many of the Cowboys are actually funded by the Arizonan Government to fight these Criminals.
And so with the threat of The Remnant on the horizon, they must make a rash decision.
Will they fight or stay peaceful.
They must fight for honor and their reputation.
<The Alaskan military enter quietly into their borders and use subtle weather cover tactics to sneak up on the gangs. They are surprised to find the camps fortified poorly. They realize why.. They know that HAARP will swamp their defenses, so they've chosen to go... underground>
<Realizing hostages have been taken and some of the city LE resources are under their control, teams break up. They can't use Alaskan Winter. The gangs have all grown up with the vaunted Survival retraining program.. They would expect a campaign of subterfuge and co-ordinated surprise skirmishes. They've clearly left the high ground, knowing it would be easy to target. The military needs to find a way to get inside the underground cave systems where Alaskan goods are stored, and access to the oil refineries is based>
<They camp out, wiping out tracks of their arrival. They wait.>
<No show for days. The military is puzzled. Then they realize...>
'What if they have access to the cameras, sir? What if they know we're here?'
Corporal Genghis grinds the tobacco pipe in his hand to dust. 'Crap. There goes that playbook. Hmm. Can we get in through the cave system?'
'Negative sir, too difficult to pass through. It's a natural defensive barricade.'
'Hmpf. Can we go thru.. the ice?'
'No way to do that without possible collapsing the roof on dozens of our own people, sir.'
'Well, HOW ABOUT A DIRECT ATTACK THEN?' Genghis yells.
<There is quiet in the room. The Alaskan wind can be heard blowing>
'Sir...'
Genghis sighs. 'I know, I know.. Sorry, I'm just... This wasn't supposed to happen! We spent so much time trying to fix em, re-integrate em.. We tried to bring em to society and this is how they pay us?'
Silence fills the room.
'Sorry, men. Just ranting, just ranting. Okay, let's take a break, chew some reindeer and reconvene at 5 O hu-'
'Sir, I have an idea.' It was Captain Gabriela Singh, a civilian recruit, formerly a marine engineer. 'Maybe there is a way..'
'Oh?' Genghis said and pulled some tobbaco-flavored breath thru his smashed pipe.
'We might be able to compress the ice around a central column, so it doesn't collapse when we melt sections with superconducted HAARP heat generation. We can hold it in place and-'
'Drill out a pathway, like scientists used to do with ice cores in Antarctica?'
She nodded. Genghis leaned forward.
'Can we really do that?'
Gabriela raised her eyes and shrugged. 'Theoretically.'
'Well then,' the Colonel's hand smashed down onto the makeshift table. 'Get to it, Captain.'
36 hours later, the gangs sleeping in their bunkers deep beneath the Alaskan ice were surprised by groups of soldiers bursting thru 200-metre thick ice on motorized ropes. The operation took 30 minutes and only 4 lives were lost.
'Hell of a job, Captain', Genghis said, shaking the woman by the hand. 'I guess I owe you a favor then.'
'You do, sir, and I plan to cash it. Right now.' Gabriella handed him a piece of paper.
Genghis glanced down and back up. He raised one eyebrow. 'Sub-Zeroers?'
'Yes, sir. That's what we want to call our new corps, able to conduct missions in extreme weather conditions through ice, snow and in the future, desert and even HAARP's generated conditions.'
Genghis smiled wryly and looked upon the survivors and happy families. 'Guess I can't refuse, Captain.'
Captain Singh smiled. 'Guess I made the right kind of offer, Sir.'
'Godfather fan, eh? You have guts, kid, I'll give you that.' Genghis put his arm around her shoulder and began regaling her with stories of his past days in the USA-of-yore.
And thus the Sub-Zeroer Corps was born
<The Republic of ancient AlasCanada brings the repaired aircraft carrier home. There is a great celebration and joy over this symbol of US sovereignty and power. Against some of the Alaskan leaders' wishes, the pilots put on an airshow for the kids and the survivors. To give them hope of a new beginning, and to let them know, the past isn't dead and they aren't in the stone age. Some in the govt grumble at this expense and consider it political posturing.>
<Alaska continues to build schools, civil and military installations, both above ground and in sheltered locations. All citizens are soldiers, working to protect the land, explore science and work towards a future where they can use energy efficiently and avoid triggering another post-apocalyptic situation.>
<Further work on HAARP technology and efficiency helps Alaskans build new camps and bases in places on Earth never civilize before. They take the Arctic route to find their way to other land and searoutes. New townships are built in a communal, centralized fashion, with the prospect of mostly independent governance if they manage to recreate or invent significant scientific advancements and figure out a way out of the mess Madagascar and the central US govt created for them.>
<In over a year, they have settled close to a million people, including refugees from 21 other states in the USA, Russia and Canada. Only the best and brightest are taken in. The stupid, the lazy, the weak are given the ability to settle their own communities but not allowed into the power structure. It is potentially troubling that the highest number of Alaskans seem to be mixed-race or of Far Eastern and South Eastern descent. Murmurings in the white, hispanic and black communities of racism and elitism begin to crop up. They are told 'race' is a social human construct, one the Alaskans cannot afford to believe in. They aren't inferior because of race. They're inferior because of themselves. They are told to work harder. Those who change their ways are re-integrated. Most don't. Some thing this is harsh. Alaskans leaders tell them, 'We are in this mess because we accepted inferior humans who were lazy and worked off others' blood and sweat. We cannot allow that to happen again. If they're not hardworking, they're bearmeal.'>
<Groups of refugees surround Alaskan lands, looking for handouts. They are often resettled, given work in new zones and told to bring back objects of significance. Thus the Scourer gangs are formed>
The exiled, disgruntled peoples begin to call the Alaskans 'Spartans'.
<As Alaska continues to spread and gather people from former USA, Canada, Mexico, Russia and China, they begin to see new threats emerge. Poverty, self-made drug development, inequity between the haves and haves-nots. People are pushing towards keeping use of oil and natural gas forever, seeing how Alaska has tons. The plan to switch completely to renewable energy hits a road bump>
<Researchers and philosophers are considered jewels of the State. The needs for government and collective social building are starting to show up every day. Roads to be mended, new waterways, local building decisions one group of citizens have different views on from others living far away. Multiple political factions arise, as they always do when there is comfort and the fears of dying are pulled away. The most alarming of them all are the Big government and Pro-Oil movements. Journalism is reborn and funded by individuals, and they begin clamoring for a Referendum, and for the public to have a say.>
<The founders of Greater AlasCanada see the developments, appreciate their opinion and suggest a public vote. Before it is take, all the cronies of the newly established 'power elite' are put in prison. For 10 days, all the people of Greater AlasCanada are gathered to the main cities, and shown proof of the world of the past. Little bits and pieces of intel, collected by close to a hundred missions around the two continents, stitch together a story of great environmental upset yet to come. The public is forced to look upon the truth of going down the line of ignorance. Then, suddenly, the power is turned off. The world becomes dark and frigid. People begin to get scared. There are calls for help, but a million people are stuck in place. In their heads they hear the voice 'Don't worry, this is all according to the plan. Please remain in place.'
Some try to run, some attempt to stampede. It seems like the Alaskan Surival Retraining is beginning to show its cracks. But the group provides support where the individual fails. They help out, provide support, give them a helping hand, prevent anyone getting dashed under others' boots. They wait in the cold darnkess, listening to the bears and the wolves and the owls, seeing the stars in the sky brighten like they haven't for a whole year. It feels like they've been transported to that horrid time just after the Incident, again.
'Ahem'.
<There is a screech of static as Councilwoman Mbombo readies herself to speak to the audience. This will be one of her State's most important decisions, and they are using newly developed ARS (Amplified Resonant sound) tech. The sound waves cannot be heard by those that aren't used to the frigid cold and specific climate of Alaska, or those who haven't consumed the Asalbaroch plant. An essential part of the ritual of AlasCanadian citizenship.>
'I greet you, citizens of AlasCanada. Do not worry, don't panic.' Her voice is conversational and soothing. The mild agoraphobics and people who were yelling for the power to be turned back on, stop their fidgeting. And they listen.
'Do you remember? This is how it was. When the world ended. When USA, the greatest power in history, collapsed. This is how we found ourselves. In the dark, cold, hungry, afraid, surrounded by natural predators that had the upper hand. Even in a crowd we felt alone, desperate, weak, helpless. Do you remember?'
There is silence for a few seconds.
'You know why we are here. Our newly born 'conservatives' wish to go back to a system of powerplay, and lobbyism, rule of the oligarchy, adherence to 'ancient customs'. Perhaps they'll want capitalism next. They do not understand that the old ways led us to this situation, and only by the grace of Science and Sheer Luck have we survived. No gods came, did they?'
She pauses and stares at as many of them as they can. She turns to one of the founders, her close friend and now Conservative factionist, Giles Lungren.
'Did Jesus Christ descend from the heavens, Giles, when u were stuck under that car? Or was it Spike over there, that risked his life?'
Her gaze keeps turning.
'Did Allah step down from His mighty throne, Habibul, when the wolves threatened to eat you alive on our first hunting trip? Or do you not remember Councilwoman Bella, who now has 9 toes because she lost one getting you out of that mess?'
She continues to look into the crowd of the oil-loving big govt craving Conservatives. They can't match the intensity of her eyes.
Mbombo looks up from them, and nods to someone off in the distance. Power and warmth come back to AlasCanada. Everyone sighs in relief, and a collective murmur of happiness spreads thru the throngs.
Mbombo, now lit up, her face visible on the large holoscreens hovering in the air, speaks to the whole of AlasCanada. 'It will be hard to get back to where we were, my friends. We cannot make the mistakes we've made before. It will be very difficult to move away from oil and fossil fuels, but we MUST use the natural energies Earth gives us. Look at how successful we've been already. With HAARP. With pocket bioenergy generation. With our defensive fortification and natural powered ice-drilling. There is yet a new technology, based on Earth's natural energy, that we continue to work on. I don't wish to promise too much too soon, but it might be an even greater game changer than HAARP.'
A million people do a million things when they hear this news. From excited sqeuals to surprised gasps to whoops of joy to calls of 'I told ya the gummint was hiding summat!'
Mbombo resumes and they fall silent. 'My brothers and sisters, I'm afraid you are under a false belief. Did I lead you to believe, this technology was just discovered? Oh no, it was re-discovered. Just like the foundations of weather control technology has existed since the 1930s. A hundred years have passed and we've let it sit on the shelf, because selfish men loved the power of oil and gas and did not love the future of the human species. We didn't use it, because we had short cuts. Oil. Gas. Big capitalists gorged on them, big lobbyists pushed for them, big government went to bat for them. And that is how we came to where we are.'
She stops. The crowd is once again confused.
Do you really want to go back to those old ways of unnamed oligarchs and a USA infected with closet imperialism and wars killing our young generations? Do you know why Madagascar attacked us as viciously as it did? A tiny island in an Ocean far far away?'
The crowd fell so quiet, one could the AlasCanadian wind blowing thru the maze of humans, perhaps the greatest collection of our species ever in one place. And everyone, everyone, watched one woman on a stage, in the center.
'To get our attention,' Mbombo said. 'To get revenge. Along with China, we were kings of taking the country to the brink of environmental catastrophe. Their island was being flooded and hit by storms every week. They lost too many to keep their sanity. And then, they lost all of their humanity. They wanted revenge on the world. India. China. Us.'
'It is the opinion of all our living scientists, save two that are sitting with the Conservative Big-Govt Big-Oil Big-Lobbyist faction, that we have to move away from the old ways. No fossil fuels, no unnecessary military spending, no public jobs for life, no big governmentalism, no lobbyists, no favoritism, no defense lawyers without any moral obligations to the species. Otherwise,' she turns towards the screens floating in the air, 'this is what will happen.'
<The power and heat go out again, this time more suddenly. This time, no one panics. In the darkness, people notice a brightness above their heads and lift their eyes from the Councilwoman's face to stare. The multiple flat holographic projections in the sky broadcasting Mbombo's speech combine. Slice by slice, a huge 3 dimensional vista has been created. It isn't the 8k they were used to in the days of America-of-Yore. The screen is clearly HAARP generated static wind fields. But in the darkness of the AlasCanadian night, it feels more real to them than the ground they stand on. The hologram dips and falls upon the very ground on which they stand, so it looks like they are now part of the scene. A million people bear witness to the greatest mass 3d virtual experience man will ever experience.
<It starts slowly. Water dripping. The sun falling upon trees and leaves. Water continues to drip, drip drip. Ice sheaths melt. The oceans begins rising, multiple hurricanes form. More hurricanes. More hurricanes. Bigger. Faster. More destructive. People continue to shriek and scream to get away from the holographs, and are only held in place by the sheer mass of the crowd and the voices in their ears saying 'This is only a simulation. Don't panic.'>
<A second later, AlasCanada has turned into the Himalayas. Earthquakes crack the ground beneath them and open wide. A second later, they're in LA, and it's falling into the ocean. Moments later they're in the savannah, the steppes, Antarctica.. Animals are dying of heat, nation after low-lying nation swallowed up by rising sea levels. It is horrendous. People begin crying and screaming and closing their eyes. It is horrible. Then it stops, and the power resumes.>
<Mbombo's voice resumes.>
'Do we want these to come true? Do we want to force another nation to do what Madagascar did again? Can we not rise above our animal instinct to think only about the next day's worth of living, and learn to plan in decades? Do we want' she pointed at the gang of lobby-loving liars, now holding their heads stiff, chins up, pretending to laugh it off, 'them to get ensconced in power AGAIN and take over our democratic freedoms, while pretending to let you dictate?'
'Well, if that's what you want, you can have it. You've seen the environmental evidence. You've heard from the scientists in the shape of You've heard my poor words. You must decide. Every one that wishes to take part in the public vote, will have to prove a scientific literacy test. The booklets will be handed out to you. Please stay in the capital city for the next 3 days. You will only be allowed to test if you can pass them, and know what it is you are voting on. Because we have not allowed the big lobbyist-big govt-big oil group to present their side, they will have these 3 days to convince you what we showed you was a lie, an exaggeration, or perhaps misguided. It's in your hands now. The fate of AlasCanada and the Earth is in your hands. I now invite the faction that wishes for big government reform, oil dependence and America-of-yore values to tell you their perspective.'
She steps off the stage, solemnfaced. The opposition faction make their speeches, one after another. For three days they try to convince the people of AlasCanada that Project Fear 2.0 is nonsense, that things were great in the old days, that they must Make America Great Again.
<When the public votes are taken, 91% vote in favor of Environmental development and getting away from oil dependence, 74% against military overbudgeting, 96% against Big Lobbyists and 68% against Big Government and establishment of the political elite. The three tarnished factions are suggested they take means to protect themselves from those sending them death threats, and people are warned death threats might result in expulsion from the Country, and that vigilante violence will not be tolerated. Six hundreds thousand of people, instead, ask for a class action lawsuit against the Conservatives. They abscond the next day, to the outer fringes of the country. Some are found murdered, others hang themselves in shame. No one can pretend to shed a tear>
