Flooding reported in Washington due to heavy rain, possible tornado on city outskirts damages homes and businesses

Tropical Storm Andrew, which passed through the District of Columbia, has caused heavy flooding in most parts of the city and shut down operation of the city metro systems due to water levels becoming unsafe in the tunnels. Also reported was a possible tornado on the city outskirts and at least a dozen or more homes and businesses have been damaged, some with roofs torn off. Washington DC Mayor Frederick Divish has stated that the city will will return to normal in a matter of days but warned people to expect some delays due to the flooded tunnels and down power lines. No damage was reported at the White House but the President did stated that she and her family did seek shelter during the possible tornado on the city outskirts. No reported deaths due to either the flooding or tornado have been reported.
