Can't say I'm fond of how Canadian politics is drifting considering the partys' treatment of Roland Michaud and John Wayne Gardner, even if neither of them really had a shot at winning.

Yeah, I've voted for the people's alliance the last two elections, but here they dropped from 13% to 10%. I'm basically die-hard purple right now, but unfortunately if the PCs are popular they'll directly eat into PA support. Their best bet is to be vocal and, somehow, disruptive for the next four years. No doubt the PCs will make mistakes that the PA will be able to capitalize on to gain some sympathetic voters. I went over out of frustration with how the PCs handled the administrative bloat in the province, and I know they'll be able to leverage that in the next four years to gain more people like me if they can highlight it well.

The removal of Michaud was kind of understandable for a party trying to appeal to socially sensitive voters. But, in the end it was just dumb boomer humour, and it worries me that a joke made two years ago in poor taste can sink a political campaign. As for Gardner, I can't say I was shocked that the liberals removed him, if the PCs have to be careful then the liberals have to be borderline obsessive. His comment was not offensive, and shouldn't have been grounds for any retaliation let alone removal. It is preposterous, the man thought that because he flies a gay pride flag straight people should be allowed to fly their flag, and for that he was branded anti-LGBT (despite that fact that he's gay) and removed. Ridiculous. I respect the fact that he didn't back down from his comments when pressed by the party, heck just for that I'd almost vote for him.

Either way, Vickers was a hero and now I don't even like him, he presented himself poorly and although I'd have coffee with him if he asked, something about him rubs me the wrong way. I think its telling he lost in his own riding.
