Justice Ministry Announcement

The Justice Ministry is proud to announce its biggest revamp to the Thaecian Bar Examination.

As it currently stands the Bar Examination is easy, and really anyone can pass it so long as they consult basic legal concepts present in the Law Registry and Constitution. The Justice Ministry concluded that this contradicted the whole purpose of the Bar Association, which is to allow for citizens, particularly those less knowledgeable in regional law, to be able to consult with legal experts for help, or even be represented by them if needed to. If anyone can pass the exam, than that certainly can't happen.

It is for this reason that we have re-formulated the Bar Examination, introducing a set of harder question which require participants to elaborate responses with their own words, as well as an essay which gives participants the freedom to give their opinion on a legal issue, provided said opinion is well justified. Additionally the threshold to pass the exam has been set at 80%.

With this we have decided to clear the Bar Association, so if you were a Public Defender or Honorable Attorney you'll need to take the exam again if you wish to retain your position. We do not plan to clear the bar again anytime in the near future, but as there was quite a drastic change in the way the test is formulated we found that to be necessary this time.

About the Exam

The total number of questions is 10 + 1 small essay (8 are multiple choice and 2 are open questions), with the punctuation of each one varying based on how difficult the Legal Affairs Ministry deemed the question to be. Questions will test your knowledge on a variety of different topics. In order to pass the exam you must get a score of 80% (72 points) or above.

If you fail the exam you are not allowed to take it again until a new exam is elaborated, which is done every 4~ months to keep the exam up to date with changes in Thaecian law.

As defined by law under Legislative Resolution (L.R.) 015, the Thaecian Bar Association (TBA) has been established to help ensure that every citizen of Thaecia has equal access to and opportunity for proper representation before and during trial. The Thaecian Bar Examination (TBE) has been established to test those who wish to represent their fellow citizens. Those who pass the Thaecian Bar Examination bear the title of Honourable Attorney (H.A.), carrying the responsibilities of the position and being also able to volunteer to be a public defender. Those who score 80% or higher on the exam are granted membership into the TBA. The examination is administered to all who wish to take it. The Thaecian Bar Examination is maintained and administered by the Legal Affairs Ministry of Thaecia.
