Compulsive spirit of revenge
On 11 October 1902, the Compakt army in south-eastern Panama under Ferdinand Silvesto collapsed when Attacked by the forces of Stratospheric shock troops, in what soon became known in the Compakt as the disaster of Yaviza, some 8,000 soldiers and officers reported killed or disappeared out of some 20,000. The final Compakt death toll, both at Yaviza and during the subsequent rout that took local forces to the outskirts of local cities, was reported to the Cortes as totaling 13,192. The Compakt were pushed back. This was unacceptable. Governor Vero ordered Silvesto be replaced by upincoming Franciscus Liberto, who quickly employed anti-guerrilla tactics he had been workshopping with his fellow Legion commanders. The Legion swiftly moved to committing atrocities in the region. These forces gleefully employed intelligence-gathering through torture, summary executions, forced labour, and the sadistic killing of military prisoners. Entire towns were burnt and populations forced to flee. This caused uproar in the growing anti-war movement in the mainland, but Liberto claimed these were triggered by a 'compulsive spirit of revenge', and the desire to exact retribution on the opposing militants. Perhaps most notably, Vero authorized the use of experimental chemical weapons in the southern region of the country. While toxic gasses had been experimented with, this is the first time they will be used in a military application, and on a large scale. The Legion indiscriminately used phosgene, diphosgene, chloropicrin and mustard gas also against civilian populations, markets and rivers.
The death toll skyrocketed, and the atrocities were undeniable, but they seemed to be effective, severely weakening Stratospheric militant efforts and dissuading remaining civilian populations from supporting Stratospheric forces. Back home public pressure is mounting, as widespread outrage both from the international community and the public presses of the Compakt decry the actions of the Legion. Even Costus, a strong supporter of Governor Vero's previous policies has published an open letter urging the king to demand restraint. The pressure on the king and the Cortes is mounting in the face of military 'victories' won through blood of innocents.

FROM THE DESK OF GOVERNOR EUDICOT

It is with a heavy heart that I once again appeal to his lordship, Duce Raetio.

A river of blood has been carved through our jungles, and the canal has been dyed red. Your soldiers are enraged, dying in the mud of the forest floor. Those who survive set upon us with chemical weapons, burn civilian homes, torture my people for information, and execute them in the streets.

It is time to put this conflict to bed... We gave Panama to you freely in good faith, but it is time for you to return it to us, along with our citizens who are now trapped outside Stratan lands. Please, stop this fighting, and let us make peace.

Over 1,635 people have voted in State Court to rule in favor of adding a question slip to the process of immigration during the “Lemonade Protests.”

    This question simply was

“Do you support the lemonade taxation? (Yes/No)”

The State court was dismissed as the newly appointed president - whom was elected without an official organized election - signed the bill into office

This newspaper was approved by President Nasura Mana’i
