Operator Kim and Operator Jacque are seen hiding behind bushes near Camp Liberty. They are dressed in dark tactical gear, armed with smoke grenades, and Volk AKM (attached Suppressors).
Operator Kim: (whispering) Alright, Jacque, remember the plan. We need to capture Lt. Colonel Jones and use him as bait to draw out his wife. We have one hour before everyone is alerted about the hijacking.
Operator Jacque: (nodding) Got it. Let's move in silently and make sure we don't alert anyone.
Kim and Jacque stealthily make their way into the camp, avoiding the patrolling Newmerican Military Police.
Operator Kim: (whispering) We need to find him quickly. We got 30mins, all these tents look the same. Would escape the base commander to have his own sign.
Operator Jacque: (whispering) Acknowledge. Let's split up and cover more ground.
Kim spots Lt. Colonel Jones in a makeshift office shuffling paper work behind his desk. She signals Jaque to join her.
Operator Kim: (whispering) There he is.
Kim and Jacque swiftly enter the office and overpower Lt. Colonel Jones.
Lt. Colonel Jones: Qui es-tu?! What is the meaning of this?
Operator Kim: If you scream, you die.
Operator Jacque: (smirking) Vous venez avec on, lieutenant-colonel. We have a message for your wife.

President Zoe Sharp shook hands and consoled with the grieving family of Martha Shields, the flight attendant on Newmerican Airlines Flight NA-831 who tragically passed away drying the in-flight explosion a few days ago. Martha's mother, Jackie, put her arms around and embraced the President before uttering a "Thank you for your support".
The emotional exchange took place in a lounge on the top floor of the hospital, away from the prying eyes of the cameras. Naturally, Martha Shields' family wanted their privacy to be respected during this emotional time, so no press, no photographers or reporters were present. After saying farewell, President Sharp phoned the Speaker of the 
Greater Newmerican States House of Representatives, Nancy Jones, and expressed condolences for her loss.
Thereafter, President Sharp was whisked to Polaris International Airport, in Western Polaris, the scene of the hijacking. The President's motorcade pulled up, and President Sharp and other high-ranking officials exited their vehicles. They inspected the damaged B-787 Dreamliner which lay silent in an isolated area of the airport, reserved for this type of emergencies. Bullet holes and an explosive damage were vividly noticeable. The President walked up to the nose section of the planes landing gear, one tyre was deflated, the other intact. Zoe Sharp turned around and saw an army of press and media assembled at a pre-prepared area where she would be making a statement. Dressed in a dark winter coat, the President walked over to the press conference area, climbed a few steps onto a podium and began speaking.
"Good Afternoon, three days ago, our nation was threatened by terrorists. Firstly, I want to pay tribute to Martha Shields, the flight attendant on Newmerican Airlines Flight NA-831 who was killed as a result of the in-flight explosion. I have just met with her family, her parents and sister, at St Thomas' Hospital, and the world will undoubtedly be worse off as a result of her loss. I, along with the 
Mathornian people, extend my deepest condolences to her family, and respectfully ask the media to respect their privacy at this time."
"Secondly, I would like to praise the quick reaction of our security and counter terror forces, whose actions prevented the deaths of many hundreds of innocent people. Three of the hijackers have been arrested and have be charged under the Terrorism Act, with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, and another two terrorists were killed during the hostage rescue mission. Eleven people were taken to hospital, and I have been reassured that they expect to make full recovery's, so I would also like to extend my thanks to the ambulance and hospital staff".
"Yesterday I convened the National Intelligence Committee, where the Committee recommended that the Department of Homeland Security to deploy an extra 1,000 security staff to airports and other transportation hubs across the nation. I can confirm that this deployment will go ahead, in addition to an expanded police presence at sites of national importance, for example at politically sensitive institutions or culturally important buildings."
"Finally, I would like to reassure the public that the Intelligence Community is overwhelming in its assessment; this was an isolated incident and represents no further threat to the general public. However, we still ask the public to maintain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. I will take no questions at this time, thank you all for coming."
With that the President stepped off the podium and into the awaiting motorcade. After the motorcade started its journey back towards George House, the President's Official Residence, Zoe put both her work phone and personal phone in the left pocket of her coat. She then reached into her right jacket and pulled out another phone, unlocked it and dialed the only contact on the phone, which after a few rings, connected. The President uttered a command that she knew was irreversible: "Activate Operation Red Dawn".

SoH Nancy Jones:” Mark. Is Pathfinder in the nest? And is the keys secured?”
SoD Mark Davis:”Yes, ma’am keys are secured after some “persuasive”reasoning, while the others were put back st their homes.
And Pathfinder is in the nest.”
SoH Nancy Jones: “ (smirks) Then you know what to do next.”
SoD Mark Davis:” Yes, madam President.”

In the deep jungle, the operators and Lt Jones are residing in a small abandoned warehouse.
Lt. Colonel Jones: “The Newmerican government will send everything against you. There is no winning this. What are you even trying to achieve?? Who sent you?!”
Operator Kim:“Lt, we are trying to achieve peace.”
Lt Col. Jones: “ By attempting to assassinate government officials?? By attacking civilians? By attacking-“
Operator Kim: “Nether side is innocent Lt Col.
you’re government is developing chemical weapons to use on your own civilians.”
Lt Col Jones: “ What chemical weapons?”
Operator Kim: “ Don’t act stupid sir, your wife is the master mind behind the development of the Chimera Missiles, and behind the Starfall Program. (She chuckles) For a small country, you guys sure can pack a punch.”
Lt Col Jones: “I don’t understand what any of that is! Starfall?? Chimer-what? Please let me go I have a wife and kids!”
Operator Kim and Jacque glance at each other. Operator Jacque takes out some blackout official files from his backpack to display in front of the LT Col to his visually displayed shock.
Operator Jacque: “ Sir, we were not sent here to conduct terrorism or aid in “terrorism.” We’re here to prevent the collapse of your current government and to take preemptive actions to eliminate your nations Chimera Missile abilities.”
Operator Kim: “ We also don’t want to harm you sir, it achieves nothing for us. We actually just need your help.
You swore an oath to protect and defend your constitution, nation, and people, and if you still hold true to that then we suggest you to prepare your forces on Maui to seize both your wife the SOH, and Defense Secretary Mark Davis.”
Lt Col Jones: “Are you accusing my wife and my Secretary of Defense for conspiring a coup d’état?? And let’s say it’s true, Why would they do such a thing??”
Operator Kim: “Why? We don’t know. But we do know that it’s a fact, and their plan will be in motion by the end of today. You can choose to help us help your people or not. The choice is yours sir, your soldiers are on their way.”
Operator Kim cuts Lt Col Jones free from his handcuffs. Lt Col Jones looked surprised as he stares at both operators standing just behind the shadows of the generator’s lights that is blinding the LT Col.
Operator Jacque: “If you don’t believe us we have nothing to lose, the safety of President Beaumont will be in your hands. I’ve been on these god forsaken jungles so long that I’m sick of it. Just know if you fail, and your wife’s coup is successful; I can almost assure you sir….that these islands will erupt into flames.
The two operators quickly disappear into the shadows of the warehouse as sounds of approaching helicopter and R.F. Army JLTVs can be heard from outside the building.

A dark haired lady, of east Asian descent, dressed in a scarlet coat, and tight blue jeans, was being escorted by an off-duty Saianese soldier, who had picked up the lady at the island's sole bar that evening. After a few rounds of pool and a few drinks, the couple had left, with the man escorting the lady to a nearby hotel. This was not standard procedure, but after a few too many drinks, the soldier had only one thing on his mind. "Heck I've got two days off, what's the worst that can happen", he thought to himself.
Once soldier had purchased a cheap room for the night, the couple headed upstairs. "I need to use the bathroom, need a wazz before we start", the soldier said, as he dumped his bag on the double bed, walked over to the bathroom and locked the door. It had been a long hard week at work, so tonight was a welcome respite for the soldier, who had the next few days off. After finishing his business, the soldier zipped his trousers up, and strolled into the room, expecting his escort to be there. They had only met that night at the bar down the road, and the base didn't have many visitors, so the opportunity was too good to pass up for the soldier.
But, as he walked into the bedroom, no one was there. The solder smiled to himself and murmured, "Come out, come out sweetie-pie. Playing hard to get are we?". Then the soldier noticed something out of the ordinary, the window was open. The soldier checked the room, and noticed something odd - the lady had left her clothes and bag here, but also a business card on the bed-side table, with a phone number. The soldier dialed the phone number.
Agent Dawn Stephens, codenamed Silica, after the famous Taiwanese jewel, slipped through the bushes outside of the hotel, and looked back. She had quickly stripped and gotten changed into Saianese military khakis and slipped out of the window. Her gaze was blinded by an enormous explosion. The solder had dialed the phone number and set off a bomb in Agent Stephens' backpack. She smiled to herself, as she gripped the solders backpack. The soldier had travelled directly to the bar from the top-secret intelligence facility a few miles away, so not had time to drop of the backpack, nor its contents. Agent Stephens, covered by some woodland briefly stopped to search the backpack and grinned as she saw the solders pass to the base.
She could hear sirens in the distance, obviously rushing to the hotel, which was now ablaze in an almighty inferno. Ten minutes later, she strode towards the entrance of the top-secret intelligence facility. As she approached the security checkpoint she noticed that there was just a singular guard there, the rest of the bases' security detail were obviously distracted by the explosion a few miles away. The guard himself was also distracted, his radio crackling into life with updates every few seconds. He didn't check to question Agent Stephens as she tapped the stolen pass and passed through the x-ray machines and other security measures with quiet efficiency. "Confidence is key. Look like you belong here", Agent Stephens thought to herself. The guard didn't even say a word to her, but was too busy scanning the horizon for potential threats.
After breathing a quiet prayer of relief, Agent Stephens exited the security checkpoint and headed into the intelligence facility itself. The place was deserted, everyone's attention was focused on the hotel and outside of the base. Agent Stephens had studied the bases' schematics for weeks so knew every turn she had to take and avoided every corridor where she could be spotted on CCTV. After swiping the pass a through a few more doors, she found the room she had been looking for, the server room.
After looking around and ensuring that she was alone, Agent Stephens pulled out two memory sticks, a laptop and a cable from her bag and began the process of transferring the files from the server room onto her laptop after connecting the two via the cable. She created a backup on one of the other memory sticks. Once the transfer was complete, Agent Stephens plugged the other memory stick into an empty port in the server room, clicked a few times on her laptop to activate the virus on the other memory stick. This virus had two objectives; firstly, it would disable the intelligence facilities servers and communications capabilities for a few days, but more critically, it would also enable the Mathornian Secret Service to spy on the base.
Agent Stephens packed the contents of the items into her bag and left the way she came, avoiding CCTV and attracting minimal suspicion. The island was still consumed by the drama at the hotel. Once she had passed the security checkpoint, with the same guard not taking much notice of those leaving, Agent Stephens hiked a few miles to a deserted beach, with a boathouse extending from a pier. She opened the door to the boathouse, and as planned found a speedboat moored up. After throwing her bag onto the backseat, Agent Stephens powered up the speedboat and slowly, as to not draw attention, powered into the night. Around half and hour later, once she had reached the agreed coordinates, Agent Stephens reached into her bag and radioed in: "Extract location A, ready for pickup".
Moments later, a Virginia-Class attack submarine, the MNS Wood surfaced in the water near to the speedboat, and after a few minutes one of the crew members threw a rope over to Agent Stephens. Before she left, a small explosive was planted on the speedboat. After after grabbing her stuff, Agent Stephens swam over to the submarine, and detonated the explosives. The speedboat was dammed to an eternity at the ocean's floor. After, Agent Stephens, along with a the crew members descended into the MNS Wood, which, after everyone was aboard, dived.
"Welcome Aboard, Agent Silica", Lisa Wright, Captain of the MNS Wood said, as she extended a handshake. This was met by Agent Silica, who smiled before saying in fluent English "Lets go home". Lisa Wright turned and ordered the crew; "You heard the lady, set a course home, its time to get away from these seas. We should be back home in a couple of weeks so please make yourself at home in the meantime, Agent."
The MNS Wood turned and began the long journey home, whilst remaining in silent mode to remain undetected. Agent Stephens began the process of transferring the files wirelessly to SIS’ secure network so that the boffins could begin to analyse the files in great detail.
- - - Congress Passes 2024/25 Federal Budget - - -

With a vote of 529-96 in the House of Representatives, and a vote of 79-20 in the Senate, Congress passed into law the 2024/25 Federal Budget. The budget gives the Federal Government a large surplus of M£52.94 Billion next year. The big winner is the Department of Defence (DOD) which sees its budget rise from M£86.5 Billion to M£95 Billion, a rise of 9.83% or M£8.5 Billion. The Department of Defence has launched an internal consultation of how best to ustilise these funds, with suggestions raising from building two new aircraft carriers, to recruiting more soldiers, and investing more in the intelligence network.
With a rise of 5.88%, the Department of Health will have the funds to finally end long running industrial action in the NHS, with 1.5 million NHS workers receiving a backdated raise of M£3,500 each, at a cost of M£5.25 Billion. However, this 5.88% does not represent a large increase, despite inflation decreasing to 2.8% as of November. Government savings will come from the Department for Work and Pensions, whose budget will fall by M£39 Billion next financial year. This is largely due to the expiry the Emergency Federal Economic Relief Act (2021), with the ending of the COVID-19 grants to households that were authorised under that legislation.
Despite severe economic headwinds, and a huge M£300 Billion spent as a response to the Pandemic, the Federal Governments financial situation remains in a solid position. With a predicted M£295.49 billion in reserves at the end of the 2024/25 financial year, the Federal Government is predicted to receive M£13.34 Billion in interest payments, boosting government finances further. It is said that the Department of the Treasury will invest a significant amount of reserves into long-term funds in an attempt to take advantage of the high interest rates for the tax payer.
Article 2, Section 18 of the Constitution prevents Congress from borrowing money, and preventing the Federal Government from going into debt
Despite the governments finances remaining in a good position, the overall Mathornian economy remains strong. Inflation has been brought down to 2.8%, from a high at 6.5%, yet interest rates still stand at 5.5% in an attempt to bring inflation down further. This squeeze on personal finances has been slightly less than predicted, and the economy is predicted to grow at a solid rate of 3.8% in the 2024/25 financial year, up from 0.9% in the 2023/24 financial year.

So I'm kinda reviewing and thinking about remaking the rules for roleplay... it'd be nice to also expand on them a bit but I'd like to ask y'all for your inputs on some questions i have.
What kind of moderation should the Minister for Role-play be entitled to (as in should it be strict, or lenient on player-made decisions)?
Should the roleplay follow strict rules, or more loosely based like improvisation?
Would natural and/or world-spanning events interest you? (Plague, nuclear armeggedon, global warming, space exploration, etc.)
I have quite a few opinions on these but I'd like for y'all to share yours aswell before I make it a reality.

Personally, I don't think RP moderators can't have strict rules - every situation is different, so any rules should be able to reflect this and be applied inn accordance with the situation at hand. That being said, I do believe there should be general guidelines that should be followed.
I like the idea of natural events (like a pandemic, global warmings or natural disasters like an earthquake, flash floods, etc.), personally. But nothing that could destroy a nation like nuclear armageddon in my opinion.
I agree with Mathorn, I remember in the past we use to have moderators however the most effective and nonpartisan moderator we ever had was Missisquoi.
However it does seem like everyone had mainly kept the traditional RP template of how RP logs are setup.
I fully support a special or natural events.
I would also support country ending situations only if the nation that is being destroyed consent to it.
Additionally I hope everyone a happy holidays.

Speaker Jones: [addressing the camera] “Good evening, citizens of the Republican Federation. I stand before you today with a heavy heart and a grave responsibility. For too long, our country has been held hostage by a weak and incompetent leader. A leader who has failed time and time again to serve the best interests of the Newmerican people. I am, of course, referring to President Ryan Beaumont and his administration.”
[Cut to President Beaumont sitting at his desk preparing for the annual Christmas address in the Executive Office. He looks up at the TV screen, a look of shock and anger on his face.]
President Beaumont: [to his advisors] “What the hell is she talking about?”
Advisor: [She looks on her iPad, as notifications after another started to roll in] “it looks like the Speaker is leading a coup against you, sir. She has the Vice President trapped at her home.”
President Beaumont: “This is outrageous! I will not stand for this.” [stands up from his desk]
[Cut back to Speaker Jones]
Speaker Jones: “The time for discourse and negotiation are over. It is time for action. As the Speaker of the House, it is my duty to uphold the Constitution and protect the Newmerican people. And that is exactly what I am doing today.”
[Cut to President Beaumont, surrounded by his advisors, frantically trying to figure out a plan.]
Advisor: “Sir, we need to act fast. She has a large group of defected Army National Guards with her. The General of the Army said he’s lost control over NG Bases on our islands and is awaiting orders from you, Mr. President.”
President Beaumont: [determined] “I will not back down. I am the President of the Republican Federation and I will defend this office with my life if need be.”
[Cut back to Speaker Jones]
Speaker Jones: [addressing the defected military members] “Now is the time to make our move. We will storm the Executive Office and remove President Beaumont from power.”
[The armed guards nod in agreement and begin to move towards the Executive Office. A tense standoff ensues between the Army NG and the Secret Service agents stationed outside the Executive House. The Army NG engaged as a firefight ensues upon the Executive House Lawn)
Speaker Jones: [addressing the camera] “My fellow Newmericans, I assure you that this is not a hostile takeover. This is an act of patriotism and a necessary step to restore order, security, and justice in our nation.
Blessed be our newfound nation, a nation reborn.”
[Cut back to President Beaumont, who is now surrounded by Secret Service agents, ready to defend him and the Executive Office.]
President Beaumont: [addressing the defected NG members] “ You all took an oath to uphold and defend our constitution. This is not about me, this is about preserving the democracy of our nation! She’s using you for her own political gains!”
[The standoff continues for a few tense moments until finally her armed guards storm into the Executive Office.]
Oahu Army NG CPT: [pointing at President Beaumont] “You are hereby removed from office. You have failed your duty as the President and it is time for someone else to lead this nation.”
President Beaumont: [defiantly] “I will not nor will our democracy go down without a fight!”
[The defected Captain and President engage in a physical struggle as the Secret Service and National Guardsmen devolve from a firefight into hand to hand combat, hope seems to fade in the President eyes as the CPT begins to inch his M17 pistol towards the President’s body. Suddenly the CPT was repelled off the President. Two secret service agents came in to the President aide.]
Operator Kim: “Mr. President the Executive House is lost. Let’s get you out of here.”
[President Beaumont nodded as Operator Kim and Jacque made their rescue to a secured varesine blue 2023 Range Rover Sport.]
LT. Col. Jones: “ Mr. President, we’re going to the airport. We need to get you to Maui. My troopers are not aligned with my wife. We should be safe there.”
[ They take off in the Range Rover as the scene fades to black. The fate of the nation is left in the balance as the country watches in shock and uncertainty from their homes.]

The Mathornian Government is outraged at the blatant coup d'etat and fully disavows Speaker Nancy Jones' actions. We offer the democratically elected government, headed by President Ryan Beaumont, our full support and formally notify the legitimate government that all Mathornian Military assets in the region, including 15,000 soldiers, 50 fighter jets and an aircraft carrier battle group with up to 80 fighter jets are being put on alert.
We will support the democratically elected Republican Federation of Greater Newmerican States until the legitimate government returns to power. Alternatively, we offer President Beaumont and his allies asylum in The United Provinces of Mathorn if necessary.

Statement regarding the political crisis in the Hawaiian Islands
Due to the recent developments in the Pacific region and a cyber attack on our Navel Base Lanyu. The Union of Savashanists Socialist Republics will deploy Naval Battle Group 2, and 1 Hospital Ship “USSRS Harmony” into the region to monitor the rapidly deteriorating situation. Although fighting has only been reported around the Newmerican Executive House, Saianese embassy personnel are advised to shelter in place. Saianese citizens, permanent resident card holder, and family members of a USSR passport holders, are advised to make their way and shelter within the compounds of the USSR Embassy or consulates as travel restrictions may have been put into placed by the Jones Junta. Furthermore, the USSR has put Taiwanese SSR, and Chinese SSR military forces on heightened alert to respond to any aggressors who may use this sensitive time to disrupt civilian evacuations. Hanoi hopes for a peaceful resolution to the crisis on the Hawaiian islands.

Today the Patriot Vanguards of Newmerica will closed all civilian travel to and from the Hawaiian islands until the former President Ryan Beaumont is found and brought to justice for his failure to lead our nation.
Additionally, we wholeheartedly reject and condemn the United Provinces for their support of the Beaumont Administration and offer use of Mathornian military assets that reside within the sovereign territory of our Vanguard.
I will personally warn the world that any foreign involvement will be meat with overwhelming consequences.
Additionally, we announce that all IUSN members who have an embassy within Aduenam City shall be closed and all IUSN and Mathornian diplomatic personnel immunity will be suspended, IUSN and Mathornian diplomatic personnel and their families will be given 12h to leave by whatever means necessary or they shall face legal ramifications.

As a result of the recent statement issued by the self-proclaimed Patriot Vanguards of Greater Newmerican States, all Mathornian diplomatic and other embassy personnel will attempt evacuate Greater Newmerican States within the allotted 12 hour period on military flights. Additionally, the Department of State is organising evacuation flights for all Mathornian citizens currently residing in Greater Newmerican States, if they wish to leave. Anyone who holds a valid Mathornian Passport will be entitled to a seat on these flights.
The Mathornian Government can confirm that all military personnel will remain in the Greater Newmerican States, and that all military units have been put on combat alert, equivalent to operating within a warzone. All units are under strict orders to act in self-defence only, however all military units will not hesitate to defend themselves if attacked.
President Sharp has convened a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) to discuss the deteriorating situation in the Greater Newmerican States. The NSC will meet at George House, at 9am tomorrow morning. Present will be representatives from the military and intelligence communities, along with Congressional representatives.

Polaris City, the capital city of Mathorn, faces mounting questions over its finances. The capital’s budget is managed by the Provincial Governor, in conjunction with the Provincial Legislature. Despite being the second most populated province, Polaris City is the only urbanised province, with an estimated 9 million residents within the city's limits.
However, the City's Governor (also the Mayor), Rachel Griffiths, has admitted that the provincial government faces mounting financial challenges heading into 2024. The City will receive an estimated record M£65.28 Billion in revenue in 2024/25, but will spend approximately M£67.50, with a projected deficit of £M2.22 billion. This will add onto the City's mounting debt, which is projected to reach a massive M£76.73 billion by the end of the 2024/25 financial year. Next year the City's debt interest bill will reach M£2.30 billion alone.
Mrs. Griffiths, a member of the Green Party, has said that the main challenge has been managing Transport for Polaris (TfP), the designated local government body responsible for most of the transport network in Polaris, which was set up by the City of Polaris in 1949. TfP has responsibility for multiple rail networks including the Polaris Underground and Docklands Light Railway, as well as Polaris' buses, taxis, principal road routes, cycling provision, trams, and river services. It does not control all National Rail services into and out of Polaris, although it is responsible for Polaris' Overground and globally famous Underground network.
With an annual budget exceeding M£22 Billion, TfP accounts for nearly 1/3rd of the City's total expenditure. Additionally, TfP has embarked on building a new Underground Line, at an initial cost of M£15 Billion, which will directly connect Polaris International Airport to downtown Polaris. This new Elizabeth Line has been plagued by delays, and was supposed to be completed in 2022, however this has been revised to late 2025 and the total cost revised to M£18.5 Billion. Mrs. Griffiths' administration has recently asked TfP to find M£2.3 Billion in savings, and has suggested cancelling, or delaying, the Elizabeth Line.
These financial issues have raised questions, with the City of Polaris reportedly on the verge of issuing a Section 141 notice, effectively declaring itself bankrupt. The chief financial officer of a Province has a statutory obligation to issue a Section 141 notice, if they believe the Province will be unable to meet its expenditure commitments from its income. The chief financial officer does not need approval from the Provincial Legislature to issue this notice.
A Section 141 notice would mean that the City of Polaris would not be able to make new spending commitments and that the Provincial Legislature must meet within 21 days to discuss next steps. No Province has never issued a 141 notice before, and only the City of Polaris faces financial pressures of this magnitude. The other provinces all have adequate financial reserves, despite Scotland and the West Midlands projected to run deficits in the next financial year, although these deficits are small compared to overall spending (M£52 Million and M£134 Million, respectively).
To prevent itself from issuing a Section 141 notice, the City of Polaris has applied for a loan of M£2.22 Billion from the Federal Government to cover the City's financial shortfall in the 2024/25 financial year, although such an expenditure would need to be authorised via an Act of Congress. However, the Conservatives, in opposition in the City's Provincial Legislature, argue that this will only prolong the City's financial problems. The Speaker of the House of Representative, Maddie Long, a Conservative, said last night that she would not bring such a proposal to debate, effectively leaving Polaris City on the verge of bankruptcy.

The 5 November 2024 is a crucial date in the Mathornian political calendar. It is the first round of the 2024 presidential election, with the top two performing candidates advancing to a runoff election on 12 November 2024, the winner of which will be inaugurated as Mathorn's 63rd President on 20th January 2025. The 12 November 2024 is also when Congressional, Provincial and other local elections are held.
Since 2015, there have been three Presidents, all of whom have been Liberal; Sam White (2015-2021), Adam Carver (2021-2022) & Zoe Sharp (2022-), although only Sam White has been democratically elected, having won the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections. Having held pluralities in Congress from 2015-2022, the Liberals lost a record 97 seats in the House of Representatives in the 2022 midterm elections as a result of a weak economy and high inflation, coupled with the removal of Sam White from office in 2021, due to the campaign finance scandal of 2021. Subsequent investigations by the Electoral Commission have now resulted in a criminal court case and several investigations by the Police, leading to further negative publicity in the press.
After President Carver's resignation in 2022, as a result of the Angola debacle, Zoe Sharp became President and the Liberals now face significant pressures to regain the trust of the electorate. Facing dire poll ratings, Sharp has ruled herself out of the 2024 Presidential contest, and the Liberals are now rudderless, without a clear candidate, mere months away from the primary elections.
Additionally, insiders say that the Party is struggling with mounting debt, having been heavily fined by the electoral commission in 2021, after investing heavily in Sam White's tighter than expected re-election bid in 2019. Rumours have it that the party owed approximately M£5.6 million to creditors as of October 2023, and history is not on the side of the President's party heading into 2024.
Meanwhile, the Conservatives have a clear candidate: the incumbent President pro tempore of the Senate, Senator Lewis Wood. Although yet to win the Conservative Primary Election, Senator Wood only has to beat two other minor candidates to secure the Conservative nomination in 2024. Having promised to reign in government spending in 2022, the Conservative led House of Representatives has managed to end COVID grants, reduced the basic rate of income tax by 1%, increased military funding, all whilst the Federal Government is predicted to record a Surplus of M£52.94 billion in 2024/25.
Lewis Wood is the bookies favourite to win the 2024 Presidential Election, and his victory would be the cumulation of a political career that started with his election to the Legislature of Yorkshire and the Humber Province in 2001. His campaign is flush with money, with a large number of businesses coming out in support of his low tax policies aimed to stimulate economic growth. On the international stage, Wood has warned about 
The Socialist Republic of Saian's growing influence across the globe, however, he has been reluctant to outline how he plans to work with Saian if elected.
The 2024 election is expected to be a head to head between the Liberals and the Conservatives, although there are a few smaller parties that could affect the outcome. The Labour and Green parties sit on the center-left of the political spectrum, with the Green Party advocating for environmentally responsible politics and government. Between them, the Labour and Green parties gathered around 20% of the vote in the 2022 midterm elections.
Meanwhile, the National and Republican parties sit on the center-right of the political spectrum, advocating for fiscal conservativism, tighter boarders and increased defence spending. The main difference is that the Republican Party advocates for Mathorn's exist from the World Assembly. The two parties gathered around 20% of the votes in the 2022 midterm elections.
The deadline for the Political parties to submit their candidates to the Electoral Commission for the first round of the Presidential election is 28 June 2024.
