That's true. We'll also have referendums about covid-19, Reducing CO2 emissions and a drinking water initiative

It's cool how much control you guys have over policy decisions there. Here in Scotland, unionists are terrified of a second independence referendum because they say it will be "divisive" and "toxic." They would faint if they lived in Switzerland with all those, in their view, horrible referenda.

Good! It seems I might get pancreatectomy, which removes parts of my Pancreas to kill the cancer, or Radiotherapy. It seems more likely that I’ll be getting pancreatectomy. So hopefully, everything’s gonna turn out fine!

I mean the difference is that in Switzerland, you vote about laws which have been prepared by politicians and not about simple yes or no questions which could have disastrous results either way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well I don't see any other way to deal with big constitutional questions like membership of the EU or being part of the UK. Back in 1707, the Scottish and English parliaments decided but things are different now.

Thanks, I mean, even after so long I’m still getting support, this site is so tremendously helpful, and it has kept me going on through many a hardship. I simply cannot describe my gratitude....

Well I do not think complex questions can be broken down to a simple yes or no. Maybe if a post-Brexit agreement or something would have been negotiated first and then the people would have gotten to vote whether to take it and leave the Union or to not take it and stay in would have been better. You know, so that the people can see all the consequences their action of voting has, and politicians cannot use lies as effectively as they did

I agree. I think in my personal opinion, the British were a bit blind sighted by their "independence" from continental Europe that they didn't see the need to look at the consequenses in doing so

This sounds like a good idea in theory and I agree that sometimes boiling down complex issues to a simple yes or no can be bad but there is no way I could see the EU and UK going through lengthy, protracted, expensive negotiations for years before the UK even held a vote. The problem with Brexit was that the UK government had no viable plan for leaving the EU.

As for Scotland leaving the UK, I would like it if the Scottish Parliament could simply pass a law to dissolve the union as it did to join in 1707 but nowadays, the political and cultural consensus is that independence must be won through a referendum.
