There is, voter education.
You complain about voters being uneducated and you uneducate them further! Posting results of bills to the SeNaTe SpEaKeR dIsPaTcH doesn't work, voters need to see who their candidates are, and their voting history in the FCN Senate! Otherwise they are just plain ignorant and, as CA-11-24 states, APATHY.
CA-11-24 attacks a valid concern, voter apathy, but it does it in the wrong fashion in my opinion. CA-11-24 limits voter's rights, while what we SHOULD be doing is educating the voters about the candidates via voting logs. If it helps tomorrow I shall dedicate most, if not all, of the day to logging down the votes of all senators since SB-11-01.
Today in the 11th FCN Senate a bill is up to vote, one that takes away your rights to vote and participate in FCN Elections. Before I dive deep into the bill, let's take a look AT the bill.
AN AMENDMENT TO SECURE THE REGIONAL VOTE AGAINST APATHY
The Senate of the Federation of Conservative Nations,
1. Understanding that numerous inactive residents of the Federation of Conservative Nations refuse to join the regional discord but nevertheless successfully vote during regional elections;
2. Alarmed by how such voters influence the outcome of important elections without having an adequate knowledge of regional affairs;
3. Recognizing that the primary source of these voters’ ignorance stems from sheer apathy, not disability;
4. Wanting to make elections representative of the will of all active members of the Federation;
5. Believing that it is only fair that government extends the privilege to vote in regional elections to those who actively participate in our democracy;
Hereby enacts the following provisions:
1. The following text is added to Article VI of the Federal Constitution as provision VIII:
a. “The Federation of Conservative Nations shall conduct all regional elections on its discord server. The Secretary of Internal Affairs shall not organize any government elections on Nation States.”
2. The following text is added to Article VI of the Federal Constitution as provision IX:
a. “All active residents and citizens of the Federation may cast a vote during elections. A resident or citizen shall be deemed active if he or she meets all of the following requirements:
i. Member has not joined the regional Discord within seven or less days of the opening of the first election poll.
ii. Member has been roled either a resident or citizen on the Discord.
iii. Member has posted within any one of the Federation’s Discord channels within the last month.”
So let's dive into the bill text.
The bill starts with several findings listed in a manner that they shouldn't be listed in for the bill format, but here goes. The bill cites apathy as a reason of the not-joining of discord, even though the only person in the poll that they are citing that is not a discordian is one person. You cannot logically use the response of a single person to represent the whole region, that's like saying that Legion of Mankind should have won the election because they had a voter in a theoretical one person poll! No, it does not make any logical sense to do this. Even then, the region is more than just the discord, we have a culture on NationStates as well, it might not be as big (a large flaw in the region in my opinion), but it still exists. This culture is being ignored by the FCN Establishment, and the view of the populace is largely being ignored. We were close to having a voice for the people, but that was largely murdered by the National Populistgate, and now the losers of the election, the CP, have control of the government. The people are being ignored largely with the current government, the government is more out of contact with the people than how a Democrat would be with Rural America. This is just a move by the CP Establishment to tighten their hold on the FCN's Government, to weed out what they call "Apathetic" voters from voting against their beliefs. And it's not only the Conservatives, it is a huge chunk of the commanding FCN Establishment. The CP had a chance to compromise and amend the bill to allow the President to be voted on by the people, but it was largely criticized because it "hijacked the original purpose of the bill", even though the point of amending a bill is to change the bill itself, which apparently the CP is against? The Amendment was voted down by a sum of 3 to 11. Looking at the votes now, only 3 parties, plus a sum of independents, support the bill, the CP, 2 NPers, the singular LP person, and the rest is independents. 4 people are against the bill, 2 DFP, and 1 RP and NP. The only Presidential Candidate is the one that would have benefited from the passage if it were passed before January; Ulrech. Even New Waldensia, the favorite to win the election, is against the amendment at vote for the very reasons listed in this dispatch.
Let it be known that the following people support your rights as an FCNer: Viridus, New Waldensia, West Phoenicia, Holy Rhinish Islands, The Legion of Mankind, Gagium, Libervalley, Dragons of Power. Let it be known that the following people are against your rights to vote and participate in the FCN Democracy: Eldrado, Greater Bastion, Ibenta, Frollocracy, Emerisis, Aglonia, Mietkael, Knat, Fluvannia, Libervalley, Ulrech, Logon, Bamgo, The Clone Republic.
