My rank is getting decreased like there's no tomorrow, oh well :D.

can you guys get me up into the 150s? :)
wait how am I 2nd best in the region right now lol

I have no idea how to do that. I went through a lot of nation pairs, without seeing a single Forestian. And I am not playing anymore. BO-RING.

At least my nation's in the top quartile, I guess.

What a shame! Seems like absolutely noone wants to vote for me!

I wonder why. *sobs into biodegradable bucket of vegan ice cream*

Middle Barael has gone from 47th to 73rd. Sad.

.....And I just realized that this is distracting from the election. Back to work people!

Edit: Whoa, it must have glitched, I’m now at 43rd???

Well I finally got a vote at some point and get to be ranked, but apparently if you don't get many (or any) votes within the first 6 hours of the event (i.e. half an hour ago, I think?) you will appear less when other people vote. Guess I'm not very well liked by NS...

The oracai templar order

Haha, I'm the second best nation in forest and nobody even knows me here... fun.

My puppets have a smattering between them, but this minigame is boring! If you were chosing between region-mates, then there would be community and strategy, but this is rubbish.

Oh goodness gracious. I have a feeling I'm not going to do well in this competition due to my flag. I guess my actions really do have consequences.

As long as I beat out the bulk of the card puppets, I'll be happy though.

All around, I actually quite like this idea for an event. It's quick, harmless, has character, and is all around community focused. That said, I don't like the amount of puppets, but at least I can't see this event causing another influx of them like the cards events did.

Edit to say: How am I getting beat by my only puppet (Canaltian North)? It's not even close! There's like a 50k difference between us! I have a larger population, greater economic output, and more shiny gold badges, but somehow my puppet (with the same flag, mind you) is better than the original? This is actually comical.

Chances are that your puppet was randomly drawn more than your main in the first 6 hours, and then the chance of your main appearing again dropped.

Fun fact: my nation is ranked exactly one spot after your main at the time of this post: Canaltia - 83731st, Lura - 83732nd.

How does that best nation thingy even work? It feels a bit unfair to include puppets...

On another note, I decided to permanently change my flag to better reflect my personality.

You go to a page, it shows you two nations, and you choose which one is better, and that's all there is to it. It's all completely random, so I don't think there's a way to exclude puppets, but that's the price we play for simplicity. I'm glad it's done this way, as you get results such as the #1 person having not logged in during the event. If they win, they'll be in for a pretty big surprise.

Mount Seymour wrote:Check out the list of campaigns that's already pinned below the WFE. Furthermore, Chan Island does actually have a campaign dispatch -- two, in fact!

Unfortunately, you missed the time to ask questions. There was a whole week left open for campaigning. Now that we've entered the voting, though, it wouldn't really be fair for the candidates to continue to campaign.

....

Damn, its hard to find your card if it’s not on the region leaderboard... by the time you go to page 24238/25 the ranking has already changed

I personally appreciate you dropping by with these, good day Valentine Z.

Thank you very much, and wishing you a great day ahead as well! ♥

You guys have been amazing, and even though it's only my puppet being here now (Victoriaans Nederlands), I will still enjoy the times we have had here, and Forest being my home nonetheless.

(Also please do ignore the s in Nederlands. That was a big typo and I can't change it back. Whoopps.)

I don't think my nation even has a card. There isn't a record of cards outside the top 25 in Forest or the top 525 in the world, and I doubt I've even been voted on more than once.

The longer this goes on, the more terrible I think it is. It's kind of disheartening to think that thousands of random card farm puppets are more well liked than you, even if it's not my fault I wasn't randomly drawn within the first 6 hours out of a pot of nearly 250,000 nations.

You're lucky. You've actually got a rank, rather than not being drawn at all.

Yeah, the RNG system they used was a terrible idea with a total nation pool as large as it is, especially since it is 90% filler puppets. By the way, would Farbelia be one of your puppets? If so, I drew that one and voted for it. I've been through a lot of either-or selections today, and if anyone I recognise has appeared, they get my vote.

EDIT: A quick check of my two puppets, Tajela and Rijenja, tells me that Tajela is within single digits of my main nation's abysmal placing, and that Rijenja fared decently better than both of them. Still only managed like 66Kth, but still. At least it could have gotten voted on more than once...

Good morning Forestians! Today the Government of Alcantaria wishes to notify the celebration of our attained 14 billion population. Celebrations accross the country's many forests are expected to be held :)

Unless you're trying to increase inequality, then it keeps decreasing no matter what you do. This game works completely well

Obvious question No. 433: Is there a reason why population here tends to grow and grow no matter what you do, without creating any new problems, as if land and resources were infinite? Or is it just a matter of game mechanics?

It's a matter of game mechanics. Population is unaffected by just about anything, except when your nation CTEs, then it will stop growing. Otherwise, it grows steadily at a near-consistent rate.

Do ignore those outliers because as I was told by an Admin that Residency is quite an outdated/relatively new stat, so it doesn't accurately portray the ages of nations. It does give a good gauge!

Simply game mechanics.

When the site started out, I don't imagine Max ever imagined it would still be going 18 years later, with more than two hundred thousand active nations. It had some kind of simplistic calculation put in, and since it doesn't affect gameplay in any way (and acts like a fun kind of "seniority" indicator for nations), I'm guessing that it's just never been worth changing.

It's how the game has functioned since its inception. I don't think Max considered the project lasting this long, to be honest. The game is designed to advertise his books.

It's a virtual landscape in a very roleplay oriented game. There's no landmass mechanic, or survival mechanics. Just a very consistent population growth. It's not very accurate to real life population dynamics: large populations should ballon exponentially, unless some outside factors don't allow it (high mortality rates, emigration, antinatalist policies or social pressures, etc), but populations will never decrease. Thus, we have many nationstates who each have the population of 3 or 4 Earths. How you deal with that predicament is up to your creativity, because population is only a good thing stat-wise.

I think the world of Nationstates is flat, if not completely interdimensional between locations. Are there any spherical worlds that could house 500 billion people? That's not even that big a number for Nationstates!
