I had a decision ~2 weeks ago spike corruption, and I've had a lot of trouble getting it back down (without seriously damaging other stats), so I've started calling this period the Difinol Gilded Age in my worldbuilding. I was gonna comment on the way it'd be funny in canon that Difinbelk somehow managed to swing from authoritarian socialism to fascist primitivism (see here and here) before going through a Gilded-Age-style period, but not only is that false (there was a period of high corruption early in our history), but this resurgence of corruption is honestly more akin to the rise/height of the American "Spoils System" period than the Gilded Age.
Although it had never come close to the political apathy seen in the irl American Gilded Age, there was fairly consistently <=50% voter turnout1 during that first spike, whereas during this period, not only do we have ~73±1% turnout, but we're also (maybe?) seeing turnout start to increase again after hitting a semi-plateau. Combine that w/ a recent return to socialism (AI planning) and I'd p confidently call this a Spoils System-esque crisis.
1I've always used "political apathy" as a measure of voter turnout (or non-turnout bc I do 100-[Apathy]), so the 53% plateau corresponds to ~47% turnout, and the same process was applied for the current 73±1% stat.

In other news, thanks to decisions like the recent return to technocracy / AI planning, I'm finally in the top 1% for Sci. Adv.

I use inkscape, though the map itself wasn't made by me, I'm just the one currently maintaining and expanding it.

Secret Hitler is an excellent game!!

It's like a cousin of Werewolves or The Resistance or Avalon or, more distantly, Mafia and other games where players are assigned roles. As I recall, the teams are the liberals and the fascists, and one of the fascists is secretly Hitler. The two factions have various goals they have to meet to prevent the other from getting into power (and a large part of the game revolves around the secret of which player is Hitler). Loads of fun, highly recommend.

Since we've got a bit of a lull in the action, I'd like to just humbly ask all WA nations to consider endorsing me. I almost always vote with the majority of nations who vote in the GA & SC, and I am always happy for people's suggestions about how to vote on a particular issue. At this time, I have 114 out of a possible 125 endorsements, which is a 91% endorsement rate!

In particular, if I could ask BEKM, Crowacia, Difin-Per Ubelk, Esterild, Lasagnes, Lofia, North rukonia, Sonnveld, Theofficaljapan, Valieon, and Ypogegrammeni to consider endorsing me, I would be extremely grateful! :-D

As always, please reach out to me if you have any requests or insights with any proposals in the GA or SC, and if you'd like me to vote a certain way. There are many times, especially with the Security Council, where I don't have an opinion, and so I am very open to any considerations from other people, especially early in the voting when so few nations have voted that a "majority" sort of doesn't exist yet.

I hope everyone is well, and that Earth Day tomorrow serves as a reminder of how foundational the well-being of the natural world is. We need nature, but nature does not need us.

I would be, myself! I won't kickstart it (I'm sick so I'm not up for thinking lol), but if anyone else wants to feel free!

Also, uh... been a bit of a curiosity of mine for some time now, but does anyone here have any opinions on the World Economic Forum? I admit I haven't really had much time to look too deeply into it, but from what little I gathered... it seems like it might be an interesting thing to bring up here and see what everyone's opinion on it is.

I'm game. Fair warning: it's finals week. I have 7 finals (including lab finals). I don't have time to be on NS right now, so I may not be too involved onwards.

1. I'm one of under 200 people who can verifiably do all 18 holes in Wii Sports Resort golf in under 15 minutes.

2. I used to be a major codebreaker and audio analyst for ARGs back in the day.

3. I own all 14 Land Before Time movies on blu-ray (which is about 12 too many in my opinion).

Jutsa wrote:Also, uh... been a bit of a curiosity of mine for some time now, but does anyone here have any opinions on the World Economic Forum?

I have no idea what they've done, what they do currently, or what they plan to do in the future, so my opinions are based entirely off of their website's information. Which is very vague and buzzwordy. The more I try to figure out what they do the more I believe they're a secret society.

I like what they say they stand for to a limited extent (industrial innovation, green tech, stakeholder capitalism etc.), but they seem so opaque about what they actually want it's hard for me to trust that they have good intentions. Maybe I'm just dumb, but I can not figure out what their deal is, which makes me think it's either funded by oil barons or a huge grift. So yeah, if someone knows more about them then I do, please share.

I've voted against the amendment only because I don't feel it is necessary. I think if people want to participate by asking questions then great. However, I don't think this needs to be an official capacity, and I worry that quieter members might be less willing to speak up. If some members are seen to be managing the election then it might put some off. Moreover, I haven't been here very long, but I like how each election cycle has felt different.

I can see Getting Over It being pretty cathartic, so that's a possibility. I'm also a dark chocolate fiend, but my enjoyment caps out at 90%. Just too dense beyond that, but I can see the appeal. And then 3 feels true, but you might know someone with that and be pulling from there. I'm going to go with 1; it seems the easiest to lie about.

Hey Forest, happy Earth Day!

I have a quick question for everyone here:

Was there a climate protest in your area today, and if so, did you partake in it? I know that there were some pretty significant ones that occurred internationally, especially concerning Russian oil.

Personally, given that I live in a pretty uneventful, conservative backwater suburb nothing really happened in my area. I still have no more information on the logging site and there are unfortunately not that many activists where I live.

Both wrong, but I kind of cheated

Difinbelk wrote:I thought bakers’ chocolate was like 90% pure and I’m disgusted by how bitter that is, so I’m seriously hoping 2 is false

100% dark chocolate is not my favorite, super sweet creamy white chocolate is, but 90-100% dark chocolate comes second. I like it in about the same way I like unsweetened dark coffe (and brazillian coffe is super strong), in that the bitterness is like getting slapped in the face to wake up, but good.

I know I finished Getting Over It at least 250 times because if you get to the top 50 times the dude's caldron becomes golden, at that has happened to me 5 distinct times. As for what Garbelia said... Well, I'm not sure if it's exactly every three months, but I'm on my second ear infection this year (and it actually got kind of serious this time, unfortunately) and it's frequent enough that when I feel that pressure in my ear it's just "huh, this again".

Nah, afraid I've been self-isolating. Just a cold but I don't need that and covid any more than I've gotta be spreading another thing around. ;p

(Plus I've literally been sleeping half the time so I haven't even bothered to check.)

Agh, that sucks! Sorry you have to deal with that. That said, I can relate to having something similar to that (sinus headaches) and getting to the point of thinking "huh, this again". xD

Idk for sure what my favorite is, although I suspect it's milk chocolate. I definitely adore a wide range of white chocolate and dark chocolate (and differently made chocolates from different brands for that matter) though. I'm afraid I both have a bit of a sweet tooth and am a "chocoholic" as it were. '>_>

Double-posting because I'm a chad who won't follow my own rules.

But actually, this is a more serious post so I probably shouldn't be putting snarky comments like that in with everything else. Ah well. :P

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I have a few of minor announcements to make. The first is, of course, that the 2022 Campaign Clause Amendment (Thanks Canaltia I'm going with that lol) has successfully passed 24 (+2 who couldn't vote lol) to 3. Hopefully the Constitution will be updated shortly to reflect the changes. :)
With that in mind, the second minor thing is I wanted to ask everyone if they would also be soon ready to proceed with another change to Article 4 of the amendment - namely, a change to the election dates. This is actually something I had really wanted to do before last election, but unfortunately we ran out of time, haha. Basically the dates in Article 4.2 would be changed from March/September 16th to March/September 1st, in an effort to separate them from major events better (and also so I don't end up giving myself a LONGER term ;p).
"Couldn't you have just added that to the last amendment?" Yes. xD No seriously, I consciously chose this because while both ideas seemed favorable, I didn't want anyone to feel like they had to vote in favor or against one thing they approved and one thing they didn't approve. I'll probably propose it in a few days if there's eager support for it, otherwise I'll wait maybe just a tad longer after crazy things are done happening for me. ;p
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Oh yeah, and one final thing I wanted to bring up: So Portugal is still hosting an event with several other regions including ours - something I brought up a while back but admittedly forgot about and only remembered when we had a bunch of other things going on lol. Herya was hoping that maybe one or two (3's a bit ambitious although they were thinking 3 judges per region cause there're 3 contests ;p) members of Forest could sit in as judges for the various contests being held over a... I believe a three-month period, can't remember for sure.

The first would be a RP story (none from Forest planned per se, but I'm sure that could be negotiated if you REALLY wanted to judge one of those), the second would be photography (two from Forest), and the final would be flag design (one from Forest, though again I'm sure we could negotiate or have someone do double-duty lol).

The details about the event are, of course, available on Portugal's discord, as well as can be provided by Herya. I myself can also help if you need any clarification. By no means should anyone feel like they must participate, much less be judges: it's there for fun if anyone wants to participate in it. However, I wanted to ask now so that Herya can at least have a head start coordinating the judges and making adjustments where necessary in advance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think that's everything! Hope I didn't scare anyone away with a massive textwall again. Looking forward to any discussion that might happen. (Not sure any will, but here's hoping. ;p)
Edit: Oh yeah LOL I already forgot: Remember that post I made about The Leftist Assembly hosting some fun things this weekend in celebration for Earth Day? Yeah, you're all welcome to that as well. xD
Edit2: My mind turned off making that edit. Obviously still ill.
I hate white chocolate. It doesn’t taste good to me. I’m sensitive to extremely sweet tastes, so something as simple as a mild chocolate to you could make me sick on the inside. I have to eat dark chocolate because I can’t bear milk chocolate or white chocolate. I’ve also been losing my taste for chocolate. I also hate coffee. If I drink it, I have to add milk, sugar, chocolate and a bunch of other things because I hate the bitter taste. I also hate olives, as they are very bitter. Bitterness is something that I can’t bear, along with the pain that comes with bananas and plantains. (They hurt my mouth. Probably oral allergy syndrome. :P)
Eh, to be honest, I don’t know. If there were, I definitely didn’t hear about them. I’d like to join a protest, I just have no idea how. Double :P .
Prusmia wrote:Cool, do you happen to have any seeds this is the perfect day for me to start gardening.
I have some somewhere. It’s also abnormally cold here for this time of year, so I might have to start gardening a bit later than usual. Maybe I can get some successful things this year! We’ll see. My tomatoes are usually very tiny and most of the herbs get eaten by bugs eventually. My carrots one year were small and beginning to rot, and the cucumbers and peppers never grew. The best thing grown were the jalapeños. Well, at least they taste great! :P
