After years of clawing my way through the mud, I mean after years of doing hard manual labor in a coal mine, I mean, after months of answering issues (there it is!), I have finally muscled my way back to No. 1 in Forest for Civil Rights! In the meantime, I've also been at No. 1 in Forest for Political Freedoms. So yeah, my imaginary country is doing pretty well. The real world? Well.... *glances outside* But life in Ruinenlust is just great.
I hope that everyone is doing well! I haven't been as active lately, because the end of the school year (and the beginning of the growing season in terms of gardening) always coincide now to take away virtually all of my time, but hopefully within a week or so I'll be more involved again. I do monitor things on a daily basis, though, so no worries. :-)

My garden is coming along nicely! Have about 90 tomato plants, 30 peppers, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, onions, watermelon, cantaloupe, green beans, black eyed peas, green peas, butter beans, lima beans, potatoes, and corn! I think that's everything vegetable wise (tomato is technically a fruit)!
On the fruit side of things I have strawberries, blackberries, cherries, and apples.
Also have a variety of herbs!
I'll be eating good this summer (and winter!)!

Hi everyone! Sorry to bug everyone, but I just wanted to go over a couple things with everyone.
So, about a week ago I asked about lowering the percentage thresholds for booting FKs out of office and proposing constitution amendments (see: page=rmb/postid=47548820). I'm hoping to soon move forward with a draft for us to discuss (when time is kind to me or if someone else feels like drafting it ;p) before calling it to vote, so it'll be a fairly involved process, but thus far the feedback I've gotten so far has mostly been positive for amendments but more cautionary for recall elections - which I can definitely see, given foreign invasions/coups and the like.
Now before we even get anything drafted, I just wanted to remind everyone of it and see if I could get more feedback. Aside from not wanting to tamper with recall elections too much (and as such, if I even do see to lowering it even slightly, it'll be its own, separate proposal), combined with something else I'll mention at the end of this post, I'd like to primarily focus on the constitutional amendment percentage.
I haven't seen too much argument against having it at around 10% (which I personally think is still high, but understandable) with measures for if we become a very small region again (like a minimum of 3 counted as well as 10% of all WA nations). That said, I did want to highlight Uan's post: page=rmb/postid=47567440.
I personally really this this looser, more informal option, as it basically allows for more flexibility on the government's part as well as the potential proposer's side, since "considerable interest" is probably a lower number than a strict percentage, as could probably be better discerned whether such interest is legitimate or just puppet spam. I actually personally would prefer this option, but since the draft would either be something similar to this or something similar to the above, I wanted everyone's input on which they preferred before anything else happens. Or maybe you prefer neither and would either like to see no change or some other alternative - let me know!
I'd also point out that this could theoretically work as a solution for FK recall election, although in fairness I feel like that gives a bit too much discretion to the party whose eligibility is thrown into question. i.e. Just wanted to throw it out there despite my personally finding that to be a not-great idea. xD
Speaking of, as promised, I'd also like to make a quick mention of the recall election % decrease. Personally, I'd be in favor of lowering it to even as low as 25%, but I also have seen a general consensus that folks don't really want to tamper with it. I understand being weary myself, especially in the instance of a potential coup of some kind or as a way of wreaking unnecessary havoc on the region (see: military gameplay). With only a 6-month term to deal with the FK to begin with, that might just not be a worthwhile tradeoff. As such, I probably will put that idea in my "not for now" bin, unless anyone would like to express their interest in such a change. (Sidenote: I'd also note I originally said "10%", so if you guys like this "25%" figure better - as I do ;p - let me know lol)
I think that's all I wanted to cover for now. Again, lots of other ideas "down the road" should anyone be interested, and you're free to poke around in { https://forest.freeflarum.com/d/229-ultimate-requests-thread } if you want to look at other ideas and voice your opinions, but not wanting to overload anyone (myself included) I myself will leave that up to you.
Oh and speaking of, if you have any ideas yourself, feel free to mention them anywhere I can see it and I can add it there. ;)

I was recently having a conversation with friends about whether Led Zeppelin were retaining their cultural cache with younger generations, or if they were becoming just another lame "dad rock" band in the eyes of the youth. It's hard for me to acknowledge that they may no longer be the epitome of rock. But I'm pretty sure you're younger than me, so I'm taking this as a good sign.
Also, I still put on Muse's "Absolution" with decent regularity. It's really carved out a niche for itself in my music listening, being precisely what hits the spot when in a certain, difficult to define mood.
That's lovely, I do enjoy that sort of folksy enchanted music. If I may recommend something more Norse than Celtic, these really hit the spot for me:

I'm on a mission to read all rmb guidelines, and you guys are next!
It’s true that Forest is much larger than when I wrote the constitution. I suppose lowering the recall threshold now does make sense so that it is practical to recall.

Honestly, looking on the Texas archives Forest really was much smaller e.g. seven years ago that I'd thought.

As it's quiet I'd like to take another opportunity to plug this joint event organised by our allies in Portugal and also featuring our embassy partners Europe and 10000 Islands. Jutsa and I will be among the judges in some of the categories.
Is the camera rolling? Let's do this then!
Welcome to the First Edition of the Lusitanian Games (or Lusitaníadas in our oh so tongue-twisting Portuguese). In a never-seen-before attempt, Portugal, Europe, Forest and 10000 Islands came together to offer a fun and engaging time for all the NationStates multiverse: a cultural competition! Consisting of three seperate competitions - Writing, Photography and Flag Design - we hope these games may bring forth some peaceful banter and aid in the strengthening of bonds during such turbulent times. Without further ado, let the games begin!
How can I participate?
Regardless of your region, status in the WA, heck as long as you have a pulse you may join any of the three competitions we have in store for you!
But first, please read the rules below (click the images) and, when your project is finished, send it in the appropriate medium via telegram to each competition's judges.

The nations who wish to join must write a story regarding either an event or a simple story set within their NS countries. This part of the competition will be divided in two seperate sections: one for English-written stories.
Regarding the texts themselves, these must be written out in a dispatch in the respective language of the competition the writer wishes to join (they can submit up to 1 in each). All text formats are allowed (poetry, prose...) and there is no word limit. Plagiarism and hate speech will not be tolerated in a submission (though hateful topics may be explored in the narrative).
In the English competition a jury composed of players from different regions will give out four different thematic awards to the best texts: best scenery, best story progression, best character development and best plot;
As for the Portuguese one, a poll will be conducted in Portugal for its citizens to choose the best text out of the bunch.
Once finished, submissions must be sent via telegram in a dispatch to:

There are contests in writing, photography and flag design. Forest has held multiple competitions in the first two of these and is a hive of creativity in the third, so it would be fantastic to see some Forest entries.
That has to be a depiction of Lusitanian freedom fighter Viriathus, nicknamed Terror Romanorum.

The Phillip Islander Prime Minister Lisa Davidson and her cabinet proposed to have someone redesign the GP circuit in order to increase safety at the track and to improve the circuit's FIA grading in order to attract more racing series to the island, as well as convince the ones that were already there to stay for longer. They contacted a few designing firms, before they stumbled upon Apex Circuit Designs. They were interested in a redesign too so they went to work. They came up with this and when it was complete, the cabinet held a referendum to make this concept reality. 76% of the voting citizens approved of the redesign and ground was to be broken in early 2013. However, the coffers bled dry after only 2 weeks of working and thus the GP Circuit has not changed after all.

I'd absolutely change my nation's name if I could. On the other hand it's already difficult enough to keep track of which puppets and alter egos are the same person, so I can understand why it's not allowed. And if I did change it to something that didn't make me cringe I'd have to start a lot of messages by explaining who I was, so I wouldn't really get away from the old version.

The 2022 DSAFF Rose Cup, also known as 2022 Rose Cup or simply Yucatan 2022, was the second and last edition of the Rose Cup, the flagship women's football tournament organized by the football federation of Delusia, the DSAFF (Democratic Socialist Assembly Football Federation). It took place from 20 May to 12 June 2022 in Yucatan.
Sixteen teams took part in the tournament, out of the 31 under the aegis of DSAFF at the time. A total of thirty-two matches were played around the nation, in eight different locations. Eighty-five goals were scored. Host nation Yucatan won the final match in the Estadio Olímpico Luis Rivera of Mérida - Yucatan's capital city, by defeating Ardelark's national team.
The event featured a number of accolades. Yucatec player Sara Rodríguez, also top goalscorer with four goals scored, was voted the tournament's best player. Ardelark's Leïla Shennouf was voted as best goalkeeper, while Nordustra's coach Lara Ingebrite was voted best coach.
The day after the end of the competition, DSAFF decided to delete the Rose Cup format, in order to break down all gender barriers inside the federation. After a voting process that confirmed President Oiktirmon-Nicao Paidarion's proposal, DSAFF pledged to no longer use gender as a ground for discrimination. As a result of the vote, the football federations of Ardelark, Torshavnia and Zemlyazvezd decided to leave the federation.
For the first time in its history, DSAFF organized the second edition of its own tournament. Although the congress was already discussing the possible removal of the gender barrier and consequently the elimination of distinctions between women's and men's tournaments, the federation still decided to organize the second edition of the Rose Cup. Given the great growth of DSAFF, the format the tournament was expanded to allow sixteen teams to take part. The Rose Cup 2022 saw the debut in an official DSAFF tournament of the national teams of Fushcor, Hortizo and Nordustra. On the other hand, in addition to the previously named teams, the national teams of Kanoshu, Kazanaty and Veyoris made their debut in a Rose Cup edition. All rookies were eliminated at the group stage except Kanoshu and Nordustra.
"Brillantez Pasión", Werka's ball
for the tournament's group stage.
As the only nation to have officially submitted a bid, on 3 March 2022 the Republic of Yucatan was officially elected as the host country of the second edition of the Rose Cup. Yucatan had recently hosted the 2021-22 DSAFF Blossom League Final Four and was therefore already in the best conditions to host a major new tournament. FYF (Yucatan Football Federation) had also just earned second place in the Hospitality Award, the trophy awarded annually by DSAFF to the best tournament host country. The two largest stadiums in the country, the Estadio Olímpico Luis Rivera in Mérida and the Estadio Andrés Campos in Cancún, therefore did not need modernization. Initially aiming to organize a tournament that could involve 24 teams, Yucatan decided with the DSAFF Congress that the competition would involve sixteen teams and therefore made available another six stadiums in six other different cities.
The FYF decided to entrust the Ardelark's Werka brand with the task of creating the official logo of the competition. A team led by Taskania's designer Sara Yakoub presented the official logo on March 31, completely changing the previous edition's one. Werka also presented the official tournament balls for the first time in DSAFF history. The line was called "Brillantez". Two different balls were presented: "Brillantez Pasión" for the group stage, characterized by the colors of the Yucatec flag; and "Brillantez Campeón", for the final phase of the tournament, characterized by the main presence of the green color.
A total of eight different stadiums and locations were chosen to host the Rose Cup:
Estadio Olímpico Luis Rivera, Mérida (capacity: 75,000)
Estadio Andrés Campos, Cancún (capacity: 52,725)
Estadio Antonio Flores, Tuxtla Gutiérrez (capacity: 35,000)

Estadio Félix Rojas, Villahermosa (capacity: 28,000)
Arena Coral, Puerto Váliz (capacity: 25,000)

In addition, the following training camps were made available to the national teams:

Sixteen women's football federations around DSAFF decided to take part in the tournament. The format was subsequently expanded in order to to accommodate the new number of teams and to meet the growth of the federation.
In the first group stage each team plays three matches within its group. The winners and the runners-up qualify for the knockout stage. This stage consists of the quarter-finals, semi-finals, third place play-off and final. In total, 32 games were played.
Ranking criteria
If teams will level on points, they will be ranked on the following criteria in order:
Most points earned in matches against other teams in the tie
Greatest goal difference in matches against other teams in the tie
Greatest number of goals scored in matches against other teams in the tie
If teams will remain level after those criteria, a mini-group would be formed from those teams, who will be ranked on:
Greatest total goal difference in the three group matches
Greatest number of goals scored in the three group matches
If teams will remain level after all these criteria, DSAFF will hold a drawing of lots.
All times are Central European Summer Time (CEST).

Thanks for your time!
nothing on my play list is from commercial sources, thus perhaps unlikely for most humans to have heard of it.
(unless something might turn out to be a cover that i had no idea it was because i don't listen to a lot of radio or watch a lot of tv)
fox amore's album 'come find me' would be a very fitting theme for how i think of forest.
So, the apocalypse is happening...
As some of you know, I live in Recife (Brazil). I don't know how much international reach this has had, but the city is currently experiencing one of it's worst rainy seasons in recent history, at the very least the worst since the 1950's. So far we have 38 people dead, over 500 driven out of their homes and over 200 who straight up no longer have homes or anywhere to stay. I live in an apartment and my family lives mostly in a house in a neighborhood which is rarely super affected by the storms, but today their house was flooded for probably the first time ever. Thankfully they're all safe, the house has two stories and the flood itself wasn't that bad, my grandma was just shocked it even happened. It's not just there either, a lot of parts of the city that rarely - if ever - flood have been underwater all day.
Extremely similar things happened just south of here, in Bahia, not even six months ago. The wet season has been getting progressively worse each year for the coastal cities, and a lot of people are already dying because of it. Usually, it's extremely poor people living in favelas and shantytowns built on hills, which slide off during stronger storms and kill the people within and around them. This is 20-40% of the population depending on the region, and the increasing extremity of climate events is putting them at serious threat.
Apologies for the downer subject, but I really just wanted to vent. This is not really something with an easy solution, obviously, it's a mid and long term consequence of climate change and even if climate change was reversed it would take as long for things to get better as it took for them to get worse. And oh my god - while Recife has already lost a chunk of it's coast to the rising sea level, and Brazil in general will be screwed by global warming, we're nowhere near as screwed as some of the most affected countries. I'm terrified for the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, etc... This should be a slap in the face of the people in power that the climate disaster is not a near-future problem, is a right-now problem.
I don't know... I wanna cry, scream, move to an isolated cabin in the woods and riot all at the same time. :(

I sincerely see nothing wrong with Uan aa Boa. In fact I liked it when I first saw it. It reminds me of an exotic land in the tropics, somewhere in the middle of the Amazon :) (because the name vaguely resembles Portuguese mixed with some indigenous language).
I am so sorry to hear all the chaos that is currently developing in Brazil. I have been told by some friends from Sao Paulo that week after week there was rain. I did not expect, however, the situation to reach such a point. I remember commenting something along the lines of "take advantage of the rain before the drought comes", but of course, if it rains so much that it destroys the environment it's not that good anymore.
Curiously, we have also had the wettest season since we have meteorological records in the east coast of Spain.
