CONFIDENTIAL

His Excellency Ambassador Patrick Hodges, accompanied by two senior staff members and the Embassy's military attaché, entered the Department of Defense of the Union. They met with Secretary Miller and his staff, and after the usual preliminary handshakes and photographs, they sat down in the Secretary's office.

Ambassador Patrick Hodges: "Secretary Miller, we are happy to see that you were able and willing to receive us in such a short time. As I wrote in my letter, the Orange-Bourgognian administration would like to have an evaluation of the current defence mechanisms and structures employed to keep Bermuda safe. As the Union is de facto responsible for the safety of that island now, through the NAU of course, we thought it would be the proper thing to do to have a meeting to see where things stand. May I therefore invite you to make a general assessment of the situation in and around Bermuda?"

Miller would give a slight smile before shifting some papers around on the desk

"Not at all Ambassador though I do wonder why your government saw fit to have you handle this and something related to the military side of things like your Military attache'. Now then, regarding Bermuda..."

Shifting through the papers and data files on his Ipad, he looked at Ambassador Hodges

"So far there are no major issues though the captain of the USS St. Louis had to make an emergency visit following a minor altercations in the ship's mess. Several sailors were treated at a local clinic and are still in Bermuda awaiting further treatment. I propose that we both make arrangements for the treatment of such injuries as one man had a broken jaw and another somehow broke his leg. Other than that, there seems to be no major issues that I can see."

Looking more closely at some data he frown

"Oh, it would seem that there was a case of drunken sailors having a brawl with several citizens over 50 dollars that was owed. But that can be handled by local law enforcement and Military Police."

The Political Camera Obscura

This most recent election of the Bürgerrecht, the People's Legislation of East Prussia, has seen quite a different but expected turn for the betterment of state. After the former Social Unitarian State Chairman Marko Hagedorn's disastrous and scandalous term in office, the Socialist Unity Party, the infamous political machine responsible for decades of single party rule in East Prussia, has been kicked out of the majority office of the legislation, now a bitter shell of its former self with a staggering 3 seats in the People's Legislation in comparison to its standings in over a third of the 400 legislatures in 2010. Now at the head of the nation is a quite different political individual, State Chairman Bernard Görder of the Brozian Democratic Union. A far cry from the submissive and isolationist Hagedorn, Görder is the type of man a Titoist would wish to see in a nation seeking to be acknowledged on the international scale; a patriotic and people-loving statesman willing to stand against those opposed to the will of the people and defend those oppressed in any form. In Europe's current political climate, it can easily be said that East Prussia is at the moment on its own. However, the optimistic Görder has sought to change that, declaring that he seeks to repair the nation after years of foreign meddling in its affairs, and that relationships shall be established by East Prussia by its own public will.

Upon the establishment of East Prussia's incoming Legislation in the coming month, East Prussia shall begin slowly seeking political relations with both more of the world's non-aligned nations, as well as strengthen its current bare-bones relations, particularly with The ottoman state and Furstia.

Dear President Pérez,

Please kindly accept my deepest condolences over the numerous human casualties caused by hurricane Emilia. Romanovskaya shares grief with the friendly people of the Marti Republic and hopes for a speedy recovery to all those injured from this natural disaster.

Such was my sorrow watching the scenes caused by hurricane Emilia, myself and the entire Princely family of Romanovskaya have decided we would like to donate the sum of $1,000,000 in aid to provide much-needed relief and help our neighbours, colleagues, and all those impacted by this devastating hurricane and begin the long process of recovery as they work to put their lives and communities back together.

Yours Truly,

Office of the President

Working in conjunction with authorities across Hispaniola, we gladly accept this aid. All aid will be put to the best of use to help rebuild the city of Santo Domingo.

Santo Domingo will be rebuilt, and will honor those who lost their lives in this horrible storm.

Given this unforeseen circumstance we are in, we will take this opportunity to turn Santo Domingo into a truly 21st century city, based around green tech, renewable resources, turning it into a modern city for the future.

Those plans will be unveiled at a later time.

Bermuda Island meeting
~ Department of Defense, The Union

CONFIDENTIAL

Ambassador Patrick Hodges was a bit surprised when Defense Secretary Miller wondered why the Government had allowed him to take part in this meeting. Had he not been aware that in a previous career Mr Hodges served as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Aerial Forces? Well, for now, it seemed better not to mention it.

Ambassador Patrick Hodges: "Mister Miller. I am sure that the Bermuda Hospital shall take care of the Union sailors. They will receive the best care possible, of that you can be assured. With regards to the drunken men, I am personally unaware of the case, but my military attaché will take up the matter with the civil police and you will hear from him accordingly. I think the matter is best to be settled by a Court Martial than a conventional civil or criminal court. However, we would like to insist that there should be brought forward a case, because we would like to know whether these sailors upheld the professional standards used to the Union military. But perhaps it is better to settle this case at a more appropriate level.

Allow me to ask another question: how many training operations were held around Bermuda for the last period? Could you also give an indication as to who participated in them and what scenarios were involved?"

"It will likely not go to a full court martial as the sailors have had their pay docked and recieved disciplinary action and confined to quarters save the ones injuries for their foolishness. No issues were report and all involved recieved high marks and praise. The full report has been forwarded to your Ministry of Defense."

Governor Chastain appeared in front of Congress today and was asked about various mismanagements of government funds. Under his watch, taxes have gone up in two consecutive quarters, which is the first time in government history that such an event has happened. It is assumed that the spending in relation to combatting climate change and drought has caused a deficit. More on this as it develops.

After appearing in front of Congress, Senators have opened up an impeachment investigation into his financial mismanagement of Quyellen resources. Currently, it appears that the Governor shaved money away from infrastructure funding.

Your Excellency,

First of all, allow me to congratulate you upon becoming the incumbent State Chairman of Ekenberg. We hope that your time in this office will prove to be fruitful and beneficial for both your country and the world-at-large. We are of the opinion that, by being more actively involved in international affairs, you have shown good will and determination to make sure you will accomplish your goals.

On behalf of the Cabinet of Orange-bourgogne, I respectfully request to exchange diplomatic missions in the form of an Ordinary Embassy between our two nations. Through these missions, we hope to be able to serve the interests of our citizens better.

If you approve of this proposal, we would like to nominate and appoint Olivia Sutton née Southwell, Baroness Lexinton to be our Ambassador to Ekenberg. She was privately educated and read political philosophy at the University of Manchester. One of her former roles is that of Deputy President of the Institute of Academics. We would also like to invite you to nominate and appoint an Ambassador to the Court of Saint James’s, the senior official residence of His Majesty King Henry.

Perhaps, you would also be interested to know that there are a variety of international organisations Ekenberg could participate in alongside ourselves and others, like the League of Nations and the International Military Alliance.

As our administrations share common progressive and socialist ideals, it may prove beneficial to have a discussion on main international policies sooner rather than later, so that we can put our mark on the direction the world is turning towards.

Correspondence to the Department of External Affairs of the United Kingdom of Orange-Bourgogne
Transcribed by the Office of International Relations of the Social Republic of East Prussia, under State Chairman Görder's supervision

To Her Excellency Kaitlyn Maguire, member of King Henry's Privy Council and Member of His Provincial Parliament, and to those it may concern,

Before I begin, I must thank you for your best wishes for my home of East Prussia. I too hope that my nation shall be able to move into a brighter future, and I hope that diplomacy with Orange-bourgogne, which I will develop on further in this message, shall lead to such a future.

The offer of a potential diplomatic relationship between the dominions of Orange-bourgogne and Ekenberg is a wonderful proposition, and my administration and I shall prepare to accept the Baroness as this relationship officiates itself. I hope that she makes her way safely to Kalininstadt.

This would be a rather strange development for our nation, I must admit. With King Henry on his throne, the most extreme of those in East Prussia may find this relationship concerning, to say the least. Nevertheless, I am of the personal opinion that this shall be looked past, as your nation's Parliament truly thinks of its people, and His Majesty is a man of honor and tradition, not a tyrant. As you have said, Your Excellency, your administration seeks to progress into our world's future. I would be honored to work alongside you in helping to bring both of our nations into this future.

My Legislation is in agreement to send a certain Oskar Auerbach to represent East Prussia in His Majesty's Court. A former councilman of The People's Legislation representing the Socialist Unity Party, he was one of the few honest voices in the party under our last administration. He is an intelligent and good-willed fellow that I am sure would be beyond honored to take up the position in His Majesty's Court.

I do hope that this message finds you and your nation well Your Excellency, and I hope that it may be the beginning of a strong diplomatic relationship.

Anyhow, let me ask you about another matter. Do the men and women currently stationed on the isle have a high morale compared to those who remained in the Union? We certainly want to entertain them to the best of our abilities while they stay within one of our Overseas Territories.

"My good sir, I think you will find the next training drills to your nation's likely. The Navy is currently planning a war game that is centered around a large scale fleet action followed by an opposed invasion. Bermuda would be part of this war game as well as Puerto Rico and a part of Florida. We're calling Operation Winter's Crown. The opposing forces is to attempt to invade Bermuda and Puerto Rico while striking at Florida while the defending side is to either wipe out or do enough damage to the attacker to force them back. It's long-term and should last about a month or so. In regards to morale, the sailors and airmen stationed in Bermuda are in high spirits as many of them were based at one point or another in more less warm regions and when you're stationed in the tropics after enduring the freezing cold for 6 months out of the year, you tend to be on your best behavior so as not to be shipped to the a**end of nowhere."

Now, what is the first thing you wish to address?

Madaki: The shift is actually the thing I'd like to address first. Furstia has been sided against with allegations that your government has sided with a terrorist group. In our sudden decision, we viewed this as just a way to make something happen on the world stage. Everyone needs someone to be against. I understand that the history between the old regimes of West Africa and Furstia have been next to nothing, if not anything at all. Seeing that everything is just a large blame-game against you, and that you have helped us in times where we needed help the most, we stand behind Furstia. Other nations were just going to help defend, not push. That would have prolonged our civil war, but you came along and helped us push through where we needed.

Now, being that we're siding with you, we would like to open trade negotiations with your nation. During when we were on the fence, or under our previous condemnation, our citizens still traded between themselves in backchannels across the border we share. As a man of the people, I must listen to them. Being that we, West Africa, made it difficult for trade to occur over our border, we wish to extend an apology to Furstians, a deal that would benefit both Furstia and West Africa.

Various generals in the West African military have also mentioned that they wish to come to a deal that our two militaries can train together in exercises and other various situations. We may also be open to buying some military equipment, if you are willing. My main goal in all of this is to strengthen our ties as we are the only true western African nations. Labyrnna may reside slightly in Africa, but their capital is in Europe. I wish to strengthen ties, and I wish to try to make lives for Furstians and West Africans easier, both to themselves, and to each other.

Ilario: I must say, I was astonished when my advisors told me that the neighboring country had chosen to side with Australia. Especially, as you mentioned, after the conclusion of the civil crisis in your nation and our collaboration in that scenario.

But I am truly grateful for the reconsideation made by you and your Government, and I believe we can make things work splendidly between Furstia and West Africa from now on.
I agree that a trade agreement would be a great first step on a long road of fruitful cooperation.

However, on the military sphere, I cannot say that the General Staff of the Furstian People's Armed Forces would agree to joint projects, at least in the short term. West Africa is still a member of the International Security Alliance, with all that it entails.

We feel is has done nothing to help us and they push for us to condemn your nation. Perhaps if West Africa does leave the ISA, something could be planned. Until then, we can focus on trade and other similar aspects.
