Snow causes chaos in Nidaros
Heavy snowfall over mid-Fosna caused chaos in the capital today; during the night over 70 centimeters of snow fell over the capital during a period of 9 hours. Fosnians in Nidaros woke up to a non-funtioning bus and tram service, roads and sidewalks uplawe do to the lack of plows in the capital, and air traffic delayes at Hell International airport outside the city. True to Fosnian standards, no schools were closed due to snowfall however, except one; in Lademoen elementary school, the roof had collapsed due to the weight of the snow. a new Hashtag in social media also quickly gained popularity; #SkiTilJobben (Meaning "Ski to work"); many Fosnians in the capital took skis, Kicksleighs and snowboards as their primary source of transportation this day.
The chaos normalized during the day; when streets were plowed, Busses and Trams quickly got back to schedule.

New Alzheimer’s treatment moves closer to human trials
The Center for Disease Control has reported that a new vaccine, one meant to treat Alzheimer’s in its early stages, is moving closer to human trials during a medical conference at St. George Medical College in New new York. With repeated drug failures to treat Alzheimer’s disease in recent years, scientists are racing to find a vaccine to prevent the disease from evolving. The latest study was tested on mice genetically programmed to get Alzheimer’s disease and was successful in removing beta-amyloid plaque and tau protein linked to Alzheimer’s disease in the animals. But with the latest trial shows that the new vaccine boost the immune system of the host. “Our approach is looking to cover all bases and get past previous roadblocks in finding a therapy to slow the accumulation of amyloid beta/tau molecules and delay Alzheimer’s disease progression in a the rising number of people around the world,” says CDC research James Downing, who is to give a similar speech next week in Georgia. The dual vaccine strategy prevents the formation of amyloid plaques and tau neurofibrillary tangles, two hallmarks associated with the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Amyloid plaque are sticky clusters that form in spaces between nerve cells in the brain tissue.
Imaging research in recent years has proved that people can live with plaque in their brains decades before seeing a symptom of Alzheimer’s. Neurofibrillary tangles are knots of tau protein threads within the brain tissue. Both are believed to play a significant role in the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease. However, it remains unclear whether both of these structures cause Alzheimer’s or are a byproduct of the disease.
Researchers say the success of the animal study comes after two decades of working on the vaccine and could pave the way for human trials to start as early as 2021. Trial centers will be located in the Union at first but Dr. Downing hopes to make them available worldwide
Public Works project announced in Ankara
This morning, President Abdullah Gül announced a new planned public works effort to restore, repair and expand medical, recreational and education facilities within the greater Ankara region. The planned expansions will encompass the greater part of the next four to six years, and are planned to build a new university, a grand medical facility (to be named Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Medical Center), and multiple expansions of roads, municipal areas and recreational facilities. Abdullah Gül promised that Ankara's glory "will be restored" and that the project will greatly expand Ankara. The projected date for completion is January of 2024, however President Gül admits that the project will likely be delayed until January of 2025, and says that the latest it will be completed is January of 2026. Constructions on the Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Medical Center have already begun, expanding upon Ankara's incumbent hospital, the Ankara Memorial Hospital.

Official Communique to conflicting parties of the crisis in the United Kingdom of Orange-bourgogne
From: The Office of the Prime Minister (fwd: Embassy of Rijkenland, Den Haag)
To: HM's Department of State, Westminister, MP Pankhurst's Forces, Amsterdam, cc: The Foreign Office, OPM Press Office, Secretary of the Foreign Office Johann Cortez
Subject: Embassy and Diplomatic Protections
Confidentiality: PUBLIC
Good Evening,
It is a great tragedy to see the British Isles and Holland fall into civil war once more, seeing that for many years, the UK has set an example for international stability in the face of great crisis; examples that our country had looked upon when we were figuring out our own destabilizing affairs. Amid this crisis and the withdrawal of diplomatic programs from Westminister, I send this letter to both sides of the conflict on behalf of Rijkens, in Rijkenland and Orange-Bourgogne, taking neither side in this destructive conflict.
Lest it be known that the Embassy of the Commonwealth of Rijkenland in Den Haag (The Hague), in spite of evacuation advisories and orders from the ruling government of Westminister City, shall not evacuate at this time. I have directed the Ambassador to Orange-Bourgogne, Erik van Gemert, to implement additional security measures as necessary while the Rijken Foreign Office conducts the evacuation of about 80,000-90,000 Overseas Rijkens from the UK in an urgent matter. Furthermore, Ambassador van Gemert has also forwarded this notice to the Consul-Generals and their Consulates in Westminister City, Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast, Jeju Island, and Metz. In accordance with International Law, the Embassy in the Den Haag exurbs shall not be the subject of acts of aggression committed by either side of the war. Should such acts occur, the Rijken Government shall respond in a rapid matter.
In accordance with evacuation orders, Rijkenland will also deploy military transportation aircraft, helicopters and other personnel to assist in the evacuation of Rijkens from the country.
In addition, the Overseas Rijkens that are complying with evacuation orders, preceding with accountability with the Embassy and the Consulates, are to not be the subject of capture, torture, or execution. Any Rijkens partaking in evacuations are protected by articles of the Geneva Convention regarding non-combatants. This also applies to anyone of UK origin that seeks asylum and refuge in Rijkenland via the Embassy and aforementioned Consulates.
We are hoping that, in this time of peril for our forefathers, that a sense of civility can be maintained throughout the United Kingdom. Rijkenland is more than willing to serve as a middle-ground for diplomacy between the conflicting parties, with the George Estate in Koningspoort Nord to serve as a venue for such diplomacy. One day, we hope the damage of this conflict will be undone and the United Kingdom will return to peace once more.

Most-travelled Rail Corridor: De Hemel-Koningspoort Rail Corridor
2019 was a strong year for RS. Current trends worldwide predict much of the world is slowly transitioning to the use of mass transit, with Rijkenland at the forefront with very strong ridership numbers for both short-distance, intercity and long-distance trains.
Given a surge in population in the Greater De Hemel-Koningspoort Metropolitan Region, rail travel throughout the corridor has heavily increased. A 9% increase to the 55,000+ Rail Journeys/day in the corridor was met on-time, though at the cost of increased congestion along the 18,500+ km of passenger rail throughout the region. Additionally, maintenance and repairs were done to tracks awaiting upgrades to handle further stresses resulting from an intensification of traffic in this region. Ridership numbers for the De Hemel-Koningspoort Rail Corridor are expected to increase greatly alongside the population of the greater region.
Trailing behind the De Hemel-Koningspoort Rail Corridor are those of the Gouden Kust Region and South Rijkenland. With the popularity of rail travel re-surging after a significant dip in 2009 and 2010, long-distance rail is now the second-most popular means of long-distance travel, behind aircraft. To meet the demands seen by this growth in popularity, ICR trains are going through overhauls and upgrades to operate for the next 20 years as RS begins replacing aging units built in the early 1990s.
With a budget surplus of around ƒ8.2 billion, RS has more than enough income to carry out it's current operations and just enough to complete it's current manifest of projects.
High-Speed Rail will also see significant movement towards construction soon. Environmental Studies and extensive Community Planning are in the process of being carried out throughout many parts of Rijkenland, with great emphasis on the De Hemel-Koningspoort Corridor to not only increase passenger capacity in the region, but to also serve as a pilot for what is to come for the future of RS. The second segment of geological and economic surveys are currently being carried out for a 65 kilometer-long tunnel that will connect grade-sparated tracks in Alexanderstad with at-grade tracks in West Koningspoort, leading to Koningspoort Centraal station. This tunnel, dubbed the Alexanderstad-Koningspoort HSR Portal, is necessary as it addresses issues with the challenging geography of the Zeenok Hills, environmental concerns for the biological habitats in these mountains, and the economic costs of building 350 km/h-rated track. A professional contractor is currently being sought for the construction of this tunnel and the portals and emergency systems for it's operation.
With legally-sanctioned economic activity seeing an increase in the Amazone Region and further security measures implemented by the military, RS is in the process of constructing a Trans-Amazonian railway. To mitigate environmental damage resulting from this, further environmental studies will be done. Currently, considerations are put down to build the mixed freight-passenger rail in the right-of-way of the Trans-Amazone Highway, linking Amazonstad with the rest of Rijkenland by rail for the first time.
Currently, proposals to replace the 25 year-old VIRM train are being discussed by various Departments of RS. Pending a rail car design, the New Passenger Rail Train will be the fourth-generation of RS rail transit, promising to be safer, quieter, and much more economical than it's VIRM predecessor.
FY 2020 is expected to be a year of significant change for RS as ridership increases, projects are executed, and rail journeys increase. Rijkenland is expected to maintain it's place on the world stage as an example of a successfully-ran rail transit system, collaborating with other international partners to further promote the use of rail as a means to go around, whether it be a short hop or a two-day journey through the heartlands. Continued public support for RS will ensure this year and more years to come will continue to be promising for Rijkenland.

War Report: Union abandons Opposition
~ OBBC News
After long-lasting and intense discussions between Union Ambassador Dr John Forrestal and Prime Minister Nichola Pankhurst, the latter ordered that the 4th Union Navy be removed from Orange-Bourgognian waters at once. The Union, reluctant at first, has now complied with that order though they remain on standby just outside the boundary of our national waters.
The actions undertaken by the Union Navy have some profound implications regarding the conflicts in and around the city of Amsterdam. With no prospect of being able to evacuate by water, the troops of the Opposition had to fight their way through the city so that they could escape to more friendly territories further south and land inwards. The onerous position that the Opposition troops were in resulted in many casualties on their side. At least 839 deaths have been reported so far in relation to the operation to flee the city, while another 2,000 are said to have been injured.
Many members of the opposition say that they feel as if the Union has betrayed them, and ask their Leader Arthur of Avalon MP to break all ties with the Dawes Administration. Yet so far, the Leader of the Opposition has refused to do so, saying that “[he] can understand the position that they are now in, and that it is better not to escalate the conflict ever further by bringing in foreign powers”.
In the meantime, the 3rd Corps and the 6th Corps are now fighting a phoney war over Westminster City. So far, the two factions have not engaged with one another, but tensions are rising.
More to follow later.

Civilian plane plummets to ground outside of Rize; killing ~2,200 people
Last night at roughly 4:40 AM, a Turkish airliner carrying ~300 people crashed in the outer suburbs of the Turkish city of Rize, with the debris and crash causing countless deaths and the destruction of a small portion of the town. The airliner, a Boeing 777-300ER, was completely obliterated and there were no survivors on the plane. On the plane were several prominent businessmen and a prominent Turkish politician, Hüsamettin al-Sakkâkî, who has was the runner-up in Turkey's last election and considered the most likely candidate for victory in the next election. At the age of 39, al-Sakkâkî was one of Turkey's youngest and fastest up and coming politicians, and was an avid supporter of modern Pan-Turkism. Some believe that the crash was perpetrated by the government in order to kill al-Sakkâkî, and Pan-Turkist supporters have declared him a martyr.
President Abdullah Gül spoke on the incident, mourning for the loss of all life with everyone in the crash and declared his temporary postponement of the expansion of Ankara in an attempt to help rebuild Rize. In addition, President Gül declared that he would be organizing a government-sponsored audit into the Turkish United Airlines (TUA) to investigate the stability and quality of their aircraft.

Protests are still occurring with the new nuclear power plant in Fukushima. Many feel that the plant is not needed and presents too much risk for the area. Officials are still saying that the plant is one of, if not, the safest nuclear power plants in Japan. Protesters have stated that they will not stop until the plant is shut down, but officials have also stated that they are not going to do that and they will involve the government if the protesters continue. They are saying that the protesters are causing unsafe conditions around the plant for workers and are also a safety hazard around the plant. More on this story as it develops.

Environmental Protesters Outside Parliament House in Wanjin City
Environmental protesters have taken to the streets outside Parliament House in the New Westminster District of Wanjin City to put pressure on the government to more strictly enforce anti-logging regulations in protected rainforests. The protests, jointly organized by the Lanfang Green Party and the Lanfang Rainforest Society, attracted approximately 1,200 people, police say. A key focus of the protests was illegal logging in Mount Palung National Park in Kayong Province.
Speaking to reporters at the protests, the Lanfang Green Party’s co-leader and sole MP, Edward Huang Guanyu, stated that he hopes the protests put pressure on the government to punish those found to be illegally logging in the protected area, but also to provide incentives and support for residents of Kayong Province so they do not feel they need to illegally log to survive.
Kayong Province is one of the poorest and least developed of Lanfang, with lack of healthcare a major issue. Illegal logging and selling timber from protected rainforests such as Mount Palung is one of the few ways rural Kayong residents can make enough income to survive.
Though not taking part in the protests, Democratic Labour Party Shadow Environmental and Sustainable Development Minister Eleanor Chiu Wai Han released a statement accusing the government of failing the people of Kayong Province and other rural provinces by focusing exclusively on the business interests of Wanjin City, which she blamed for the illegal logging crisis.
Ahad Omar (Lanfang Nationalist Party), the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, has not responded directly to the protests or Ms. Chiu’s claims, but has stated that protecting the nature splendor of Lanfang’s rainforests while also providing for the economic development of rural areas has always been and continues to be a key priority of the Lanfang Nationalist Party and the LNP/New People’s Party coalition government.
