Danubian Presidential Election - Peoples Chamber

A week after nominations close for the presidency, 638 of the 650 Ministers in the Peoples Chamber, including the five nominees; Kende Boldizar, Joss Hertzfeld, Lucia Rosetti, Sára Pásztor and Erik Dvořáček. As laid out in the Constitution of the Danubian Socialist Confederation, the president is elected from among the members by a series of alternative vote elections. Absence from the chamber at this time counts as an abstention and the positions of the non-present members would be counted as such. Speaker of the House, Harald Weitz, begins with an opening statement as the translation is broadcasted to the seats across the chamber.:

Ministers of the Peoples Chamber, as i am sure you are aware today we gather to elect a new individual to the president of the central committee and our great nation. The position of many members of this chamber thus far have been divided, but in the name of the Anyaberek who proceeded them it is my hope that all candidates and members of this legislature show restraint, respect and civility in these proceeding and show honour in respecting the result of these proceedings no matter what that may be. It is this coalition that built this nation and although we may have our differences in opinion as to how to achieve it, it is our shared end goal to create a truly prosperous and great society in which all citizens of this great nation can live in peace. Now, let us proceed to the first round of voting.

Comrades, Danubians, Ministers of the Peoples Chamber. It is with great joy that on this day i accept the position of President of the Danubian Socialist Confederation. In her time in office, President Stauffer Anyaberek stood on one principle of above all else, and that was unity in the face of adversity. Danubians do not concern themselves with petty issues of ideological divisions and strife, we must realise that we all have a common goal in mind and that goal is the good and wellbeing of all Danubian people. While usually the internal affairs of other fellow member states of the International Cooperation Council are normally not of concern to the Furstian Government - per its official foreign policy - or to this Ministry, the recent action undertaken by this unknown group has been with the sole purpose of destabilizing the internal order of the Furstian society by attempting to transmit and disseminate false and harmful information to our population.

The attempt at breaching the laws of the Socialist Republic of Furstia represents an issue which should be swiftly corrected before similar attempts occur in the near future.

The Concerned have existed since 1995. Basileus Nikolaus Atredai is viewed by the group as a puppet, and not a true leader. In truth, they are opposed to nearly any form of government and view modern governance as having been bought out, sold and useless. 

two weeks ago on the island of Cyprus a member of "The Concerned" was the subject of a snatch & grab operation that became wet. The subject, code name Leo, is undergoing interviews and we are encouraging him to share reliable intel. 

Current intelligence suggests that The Concerned may have been involved in the attack on the border crossing, but that intel is still being worked out.

In part of our current internal agreement that the group needs to be looked into more, we encourage our counterparts in Foreign Reconnaissance and Operations of the Furstian SEGES to conduct operations of intelligence gathering. Any resources needed will be provided for. KGB and Stasi agents are also encouraged to gather intelligence, and share, to build a better profile. Shared intelligence should be provided to Pangluan Intelligence Services.

Wildfire Rages in East Attica Town of Artemida, Evacuations Ordered

A series of wildfires started Outside of Artemida, with the fires suspected to have begun last night. evacuations have been ordered for surrounding towns.

A team of 65 firefighters, along with 15 specialty vehicles and three helicopters, is currently working to suppress the flames. Crews will continue to work around the clock to combat the blaze, and to save property.

Promises kept were forced by the hand of the populous. Promises made by politicians are never kept unless they are held accountable. It doesn't matter the nation, and it doesn't matter the politician, they always make promises they can't keep. The former President of Japan, Sanda Koin, made promises to the people of Japan and never delivered. He said he would reform the criminal system and work to make Japan a more prominent nation in the eyes of the world, but for those who see Japan realize that he didn't do those things. The current president of Japan offers the same empty promises despite knowing that they will never be fulfilled. Politicians bicker back and forth until people forget what the original reasoning for the bickering was. Governments need to accept the fact that their people are tired.

Some nations realize that their citizens are becoming tired of the same old game they keep playing. What do they do? They make sure their citizens can't voice their anger towards the governments that keep promising things but never deliver. No matter the nation, no matter the leader, promises are broken and the people accept it. It is time that citizens take a stand a hold their politicians accountable. If they promise things, make sure they work towards those promises. The more the world let's them get away with breaking their promises they've made, the bigger the letdown. Queens Renewal Project given go-ahead, major rebuilding and re-zoning announced

The New York City borough of Queens is receiving a much needed renewal following an announcement from Governor Mark Smith, stating the the area has seen major decline and rundown due to many leaving for a new life in other parts of the state and the rest of the country. "In order to reverse this trend, Queens will be given new life so to speak. With a focus on green space and new housing and businesses. Each area of Queens will be given a major rework and rebuild, in most cases, major re-zoning due to the need to upgrade much of the infrastructure. It will not be easy nor cheap but I feel as New Yorkers, more so those from Queens, are up for the challenge!" Mr. Smith said during a press release. The areas that will be focused and what will be done to them are as follows:

Astoria Cove/Hallets Point

A controversial new rezoning and redevelopment plan for Astoria Cove aims to make the community more inclusive and more “aesthetically pleasing” in relation to the rest of the borough. Jay Valgora, an architect who works for the company behind recent redevelopments in nearby Hallets Point, says that Astoria Cove’s “under-used industrial spaces” are a “desolate eyesore.”

The projected redevelopment plan would take a decade to complete and its four phases would include the construction of three 26 to 32 story-high buildings, a children’s playground, a waterfront esplanade, and even a possible shuttle service to the subway. At the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance Conference recently, Joel Bergstein, president of Lincoln Equities spoke of the design challenges of the more isolated site, as Queens’ only peninsula and how the urban design paid homage to industrial, waterfront history of site with a permeable boardwalk.

They also looked at how to move away from standard planning to create a waterfront that better served the community. Says Bergstein, “By creating two traditional blocks, it wouldn’t be inviting to local community and the greater community. We created more upland connections, two more than required by City Planning. We gave much more open feeling and we created a plaza. Waterfront guidelines required 40 foot promenade, we exceeded that.”

Many people are skeptical of these plans though and are not convinced that redevelopment would help create good jobs or affordable housing. Community Board 1 will vote on the Astoria Cove redevelopment plan today.

Willets Point

The iconic chop shops at Willets Point surrounding Mets Stadium are in danger. 225 small businesses that provide low-income immigrants with more than 1,400 may be extinct after Economic Development Corporation goes ahead with a $536 million plan to build a 1.4 square foot shopping mall. That doesn’t mean they’ll be going without a fight though. Multiple lawsuits have been brought to the Supreme Court in the past few years by an organization of small business owners called Willets Point United. In addition, a minor scandal was uncovered when the Queens Chronicle released a map of the extensive redevelopment plans that were supposed to be shared with neighbors in Willets Point by the development company.

Jamaica

Jamaica is also due for a make-over soon. In an albeit more low-key development plan than that of the controversial plans for Willets Point, there are plans to build a mixed-use central business district that will compliment the extension on the Long Island Railroad and the completion of an AirTrain to Kennedy Airport. The entire plan should cost the city $225 million and will also include a 26-story commercial and residential tower, the largest private investment in the neighborhood’s history. There has been no major opposition to these redevelopment plans so far and many deals have already been confirmed with developers.

The Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, a non-profit dedicated to returning the neighborhood to its past prosperity, has already reached deals on a $50 million dollar retail project about a mile from the train station, a 24-story hotel, and a 400-unit rental apartment building with 800 square feet of retail space at its base.

5 Pointz

Perhaps the most infamous of all redevelopment plans in Queens is 5 Pointz. The borough’s “Institute of Higher Burnin'” or the “5Pointz Aerosol Art Center, Inc.” had been famously “whited out” by developers last year, but what is the fate of the world’s “graffiti mecca” now that the art work is gone and the building stands vacant?

Plans to transform 5 Pointz into two high-rise residential towers are in the works and will give new life to the building as a whole. Queens Borough President Helen Marshall had already given the OK for development plans to commence, but it will still take some time before G&M Realty, the company responsible for the redevelopment plans, will see their project through. Luckily, the Google Cultural Institute website will make it able for you to take a closer look at lost artwork through its new Street Art Project, which preserves close-ups of the building in its former glory.

Hunter’s Point South

The Long Island City redevelopment plan at Hunter’s Point South promises to bring a “mixed-use, affordable housing development” to approximately 30 acres of waterfront real-estate. Governor Smith had already cut the ribbon to the new Hunter’s Point South Park last year and developers continue to build on that momentum to totally redesign the neighborhood.

Phase 1 of construction, which should be completed by next year year, will include a new school, retail space, and waterfront parkland. Thankfully, this project is connected to Mayor Rogers’s Affordable Housing Plan which, if all goes as he says, should provide the city’s lower and middle class with much needed affordable housing units.

All in all, it should be a couple years or so before the whole of the Queens Renewal Project is finished barring any sort of delays and cost overruns. A tentive budget of 30 Billion has been set but this is subject to change.

Queens Renewal Project finished ahead of schedule, borough sees new growth

Though most of the finishing touches to several complexes are still being finished, the City Council of New York has announced that the Queens Renewal Project has been largely finished and new growth is expected to occur in the coming weeks and beyond. With each part of the borough revamped and given new life, economic opportunities are now open to every citizen who calls the borough home. From Astoria Cove/Hallets Point to Hunter's Point South, people are already seeing an uptick in business and investors are once again returning to Queens to take advantage of the new growth. Time will tell if things remain the same or change for the better but for now, Queens is but another part of the shining jewel that New York City has become

Yesterday evening an announced demostration of farmers on Freedom Square in Kathelio grew out to a mass protest.
Farmers have been angry and upset by reset governmental policy to reduce carbon emmissions from farmers.
Since this morning the TPF party has joined in the protest and are calling for mass governmental reform and to a new cabinet.
The first minister hasn't yet responded to the protests.

Working with several universities in coordination with construction, engineering and architectural firms, BID has awarded $15 million in grants for the following in regards to self healing concrete.

Practical use in residential applications
Practical use in commercial applications
Practical use in industrial applications
Practical use in building materials

A focus on the durability of self healing concrete in how it handles earthquakes, weather, and other acts of the Gods is a primary concern.

This research will take place over the next 2 1/2 years (130 RL days) and will help BID approve it for use in various fields if it is found successful.

We are looking at U.S. applications as of today, however further research is needed to determine its ease of production, quality, and cost, not to mention its practical use in Hellas.

After 3 years of study and development, it is has been determined that self-healing concrete is efficient as a means of building material. We will be working with local companies in how to implement this new technology and put it to use.

The potential for self healing bio concrete in the country is high, and could lead to significant economic developments.

In part of the larger efforts to develop the country, BID will be working with major Hellenic data network and cellular network providers to install a 5g network across the country.

Low band, mid-band and high hand 5g networks will be part of the overall installation. BID is dedicating $300 million over 2 years (104 RL days) to make this project a reality.

Further internet and other communications projects will be announced as The Hellenic League moves towards a more technological future.
