What is the Reform Club?

The Reform Club is for Lazarenes and our foreign friends, to discuss and debate the future of Lazarus both in politics and culture.

We want Lazarus to be democratic, open, friendly to other regions, and a force for good in Nationstates.

Do any of the points of discussion below appeal to you? Consider joining today!

Open up Lazarus to more participation?

    * Delegates should be regularly elected in a reasonable interval, such as yearly or bi-yearly, depending on what is best for regional security and activity.

    * Delegates could be elected from a pool of citizens cleared by the Council of Lazarene Security or some other method of security clearance.

    * Regular ministerial elections to coincide with Prime Minister elections, as to provide more ability for Lazarenes to get involved of their own accord.

    * Ministers should be directly elected by Lazarenes and not appointed by the Prime Minister, except in case of roles of security importance such as immigration or the regional guard.

    * Residents of Lazarus should have the ability to propose bills to the assembly, even if voting on them is left to citizens. All ideas should be shared, not just by cleared citizens...

Foreign Policy of openness?

    * Peace with the New Pacific Order and a Non-Aggression Pact, as the war has gone on long enough.

    * Ending of the proscription with the New Pacific Order, and to only ban those nations listed in the request to the NPO before the war began.

    * Conclude treaties with the remaining GCRs not currently treated with, inclusive of Balder.

Political and Media Freedom?

    * Reform the criminal code of Lazarus so that reporting on Assembly activity by media organizations is not a punishable offense in the future.

    * Allow for discussion of the internal politics of Lazarus outside of the region, and find a reasonable mix between protecting the right of citizens to discuss things in private and the right to express political opinions abroad.

    * Resolve the dispute with NS Today and other foreign media organizations by creating a clear code of conduct and ethics between them and Lazarus, and not relying on word of mouth.

Allow Military Volunteering?

    * Reform the Regional Guard Act to allow for members of the regional guard to volunteer for defending or raiding missions (???).

* * *

The point of the reform club is to discuss and debate, even if you disagree!

Where do we discuss and debate? The Lazarene RMB, on Discord, or basically anywhere we can discuss openly.

If you want to join the Reform Club Membership Roster please TG: New Rogernomics

Well I guess something like that is how you draw me out. RIP my anonymity...

  • The delegate is a position of security. Open it to elections and you invite in all sorts of threats. Remember, the Lazarus civil war was largely the result of foreign operatives spreading rumors of election fraud to different parts of the government. Do not make the delegate position a point of contention. Otherwise, holding elections for other positions and involving the region as much as possible is great.

  • I agree it is time to move on from the conflict with the NPO and treat them as friends.

  • The spat with NST will be a complex problem to solve, but I trust the government of Lazarus to handle it well. My hope is the revelations about a spy will not disrupt regular operations and you will successfully discover who they are.

  • I like the idea of letting members of the guard go have fun on their own when nothing else is happening.

"When nothing else is happening" M8 nothing's EVER happening with the guard, that's the whole problem with it! And god forbid if you do try and get the guard back into working order you'll get banned from it for over a year. Lazarus needs reform badly especially the guard and that kangaroo court we call a justice system.

We will have to have some RMB debates some time, when I start dropping harder debate questions. :P

Hey everyone

I don't really know how to apologize for disappearing suddenly the other month...I have had a huge change in my personal life and I didn't have any steady access to the internet or my computer for quite awhile. I felt really sad and almost ashamed to even come on here after the commitments I had just made to everyone.

I'd like to specifically apologize to Your imaginary friend, Mzeusia, and anyone who put their faith in me for the position of LazDev. I really regret that I let you guys down and was unable to finish the projects and ideas I had. I hope you'll forgive me :(

Developer Elections
by Mzeusia

The Developer elections between Snoodum and The marsupial are just coming to a close. At their end, a new developer will be chosen to aid the Internal Management Department in their quest to better Lazarus from the inside. Well done to both of them for their campaigns, and if you, dear reader, wish to contribute to the Internal Management Department or make a suggestion regarding activities for Internal Management to consider, please telegram Mzeusia. While the results are not yet publicly known, the race was a close one, with both candidates bringing greatly contrasting plans for the position should they get elected.

An Interview with Lazarene Delegate Treadwellia
interviewed by Mzeusia

Mzeusia: First question, When in your being in Laz did you get interested in government?

Treadwellia: When Imki declared her Anarchy Week, I didn't know whether I could trust her. I did know that I was getting tired of all the political stuff going on in Lazarus--power struggles, coups, etc. I did a crash course on the World Assembly and sent out a telegram advertising my intention to run for Delegate. Imki saw my effort as honest and genuine, so she asked me about becoming her Vice Delegate. Here we are now.

Mzeusia: That's really interesting. Has your vision for Lazarus changed over the time you have been delegate, and if so, how?

[b]Treadwellia: Not really. When I sent out my telegram, I said, "I mean to seek out nonbiased, trustworthy assistance in running the region with its security and stability in mind. I'm not here to start controversies, to exact vengeance for past grudges, or to frustrate the residents and visitors with personal agendas." That much certainly hasn't changed. I still aim to run Lazarus as a member of a team, backed up by those working with me.

Mzeusia: Good to hear. I suppose this is as good a time as any to congratulate you on such a stable reign. How does it feel to know that you are approaching the longest time a delegate has served in regional history?

Treadwellia: I am pleasantly surprised at it, admittedly. Part of me is still watching for someone to try to do something to stop it all, but it's a case of "so far, so good" at the moment.

Mzeusia: Great. What would your advice be to nations wanting to contribute to the region but don't have enough time or are unsure about how to go about doing that?

Treadwellia: It's the same thing I tell my students where I teach: keep communications open, ask questions, and don't be afraid to take initiative. I am almost always available for answering concerns through telegrams and through Discord messages. I am also one of the recognizable names in the region. If someone was to come my way with an idea or a concern, if I couldn't answer it directly, I could at least give an honest opinion, any necessary advice, and a proper contact with who could handle the situation best.

Mzeusia: Ah! Very true. If the Tubby One was faced with the near-unanswerable task of choosing his favourite food, what might that be?

Treadwellia: Heh. Well. Good question. The one His Immensity snacks on the most is, if memory serves right, chocolate-glazed doughnuts. That works, I guess!

Mzeusia: Delicious. That seems good enough. If you have anything you want to be asked, just say, but if you don't, that should be all.

Treadwellia: I can't think of anything else off hand. Thanks for your time and patience in setting up and conducting this interview.

Regional Writing Competition
by Mzeusia

A new Regional Writing Contest has begun. Over a month, the aim is to get the inner writers of all Lazarenes out onto the page to compete for victory. With a broad theme allowing you to write anything so long as it is tied to your nation residing in Lazarus, feel free to let your imagination bolt from the starting gate and tear down the curving track of possibility. The prize is yours for the taking and more information can be found here!

Non Aggression Pact Signed with The North Pacific
by Mzeusia
A few weeks ago, Lazarus signed a Non Aggression Pact which is viewable Linkhere. Named The 'Incorporated Rum Pact', the treaty tightens the bonds of friendship between our two regions and paves the way for further improvements. While just one apple of the fruit borne by the hard work of this government, it is a good example of the attitude Lazarus has towards its neighbours. The treaty covers ideas of mutual recognition, non-aggression and enhanced inter-regional communication and I'm sure I speak for all Lazarenes when I say that we delight in this step forward in relations.

Advertisements
compiled by Mzeusia

In this space, anyone in Lazarus can advertise various things from in character things pursued by your government, or competitions and events you are involved in that you want people to know about. There is also a Lonely Hearts subsection where nations can create and submit their own single citizens from some local shop owner to the leader of the nation. If you have any questions or submissions about anything to do with the advertisements, telegram Mzeusia.

  • Card Guild: Lazarus has recently set up a Card Guild headed by Debussy. With the aim of helping Lazarenes when it comes to card collection and information, the guild has now amassed an impressive deck of cards. To satisfy all your card collecting needs, you can visit the dedicated forum thread Linkhere. On the regional discord, the Card Guild also has a presence, so if discord is more your cup of tea, you can engage with it there.

  • Doumakis Local Winery: The Doumakis Local Winery is an ambitious Mzeusian Winery specialising in red wines. Having recently branched out into the international market, you can now shop for our quality wines here. With a proud history of wine-making and wine-tasting, we are confident that even the most teetotal of souls will be utterly entranced by what is on offer.

Lonely Hearts:

  • Aaron is a Honeydewistanian man who is very afraid of the government. He supposedly refuses to participate in mandatory consumerism, complaining about "I want to save up" or "I need to pay off my student loans". He also has not visited a fast food restaurant in at least a week, a crime punishable by death. He is 22 years old and is looking for a woman who will hide with him in his mossy cave and eat bugs and mealworms. He is armed with a flashlight so he can provide security. He also has a giant pet leopard that ate Aaron’s family. Aaron is considering moving into a slightly drier deeper cave in the near future with his partner, where they will not be as easily detected by bloodhounds sent out by the Honeydewistanian government.

  • Phillip is a Mzeusian man who declined to include an image of himself nor much of a physical description because it was "unimportant nonsense that will merely distract from the love for each other and for furniture." Philip, who detests being called Phil, is 42 and is looking for a similarly aged women with a more than keen interest in furniture restoration. As Mzeusia does not have a good furniture restoration industry, Phillip can sometimes feel like he does not belong and so he yearns for a women to whisper sweet rants about flat-pack furniture to. Phillip is not picky about too many aspects of his potential other half, but he wants a long-term relationship and is ready to consider embracing a new hobby.

  • Daneria Datesten is a young woman of 29 and describes herself as "A bubbly person, but...not like too many bubbles like the amount you get when you wash your hands with a lot of soap. Just the right amount of bubbles. Her heart is wishing for "someone to stand by me with a good sense of humour and who will help me in my fight to get pineapples banned from pizza. They also need to be okay in the heat because I plan to move to some tropically island when I can." Like Phillip, she has declined to include an image due to apparent technical issues but she does provide a physical description. Daneria is 5ft 8 and has blonde shoulder length hair. She says she got bored with the forms we sent her so that is the extent of the physical description we have.

A Gazette Announcement:
Hey! I'd like some entries for the Lonely Hearts bit of the Gazette. If you want to write any, great. If not, but you would want to give me permission to come up with someone from your nation (I'll run it by you first) let me know too! Also, if you have something you want to write an article about, also let me know. Doesn't have to be big or anything so have a go!

Furthermore, if anyone has any advertisements they want to send my way (We're building a new airport, for example) please do so!

How to see all unions (regions) of countries? what are their requirements and who is included in them?

That face you make when your first sergeant's brain explodes out of his skull.

Beka sat up. Marcus lay next to her. Still, she panted in horror, remembering 'that day'.

So weird. So the twins told beer leader the other day stinky has been sick for a week with a "sinus infection." Stinky is a notorious liar and there's obviously covid 19 rampant because free dumb. She told them she had a covid test but it was negative and she went for blood work as the antibiotics weren't helping. Beer leader knows of no sinus infection that will just start out of the blue and we are supposedly in lock down and wearing masks so how exactly does one catch that sinus infection anyway? As well beer leader knows of no sinus infection that doesn't go away with antibiotics. Anyway, beer leader messaged her and she dismissed his concerns. Then today she calls the kids (which NEVER happens) and tells them she was in the ER with the "infection" still and antibiotics aren't helping but she had an IV and feels better and tells them to tell beer leader she is letting them stay a few extra days (which is VERY out of character as she is constantly arguing over a few hours to keep them from beer leader). Beer leader is obviously grateful to have them but is supposed to start back in the clinic on Monday and is very confused. Anyway cheers.

Nothing to forgive you for! RL > NS. RL getting busy is completely understandable, and while we might grumble a bit here and there about people going inactive, we don’t really blame you :)

That said, I hope you stick around for a bit. It’d be fun to have you around!
