Our first Gazette is out!

Voltarian Gazette Issue I

by Voltarian dispatch office

The Voltarian Gazette will be distributed monthly, containing changes to the government, roleplay, and more. Keep reading to see what's been happening!

The Great Volt War
This week we have had the fortune (or misfortune) of experiencing a whole myriad of events in the world of Voltarium.
Dominating this week's RP was “The Great Volt War” as it has come to be known.

The war started (at least according to some sources) when the nation of Indopersia began an invasion of the Freeslavicpeoples. This action spurred Spaldania to defend the FSP (due to a trade alliance). Shortly after the beginning of the war, Spaldania called for assistance from her allies when this assistance was not granted to as large of an extent as Spaldania wanted, Spaldania cut its losses with the Sakura Alliance and joined the Pact of Todias.

The first part of the Great Volt War ended after the Indopersians capitulated to Kemonomica. This was to the great annoyance of many other participating countries, as Kemonomica joined the war later than some, and arguably did less for the war effort.
The second (and hopefully final) half of the war began when modernised Spaldanian forces marched into Indopersian territory, swiftly taking many towns. Shortly after, the rest of the Pact of Todias joined the war on the Spaldanian side.
Indopersia, under the protection of the Sakura alliance quickly responded, with both Indopersian and Sakura alliance troops attempting to halt the Pacts advances.
A couple of months and many casualties later the Pact of Todias had completely surrounded the Indopersian capital, the issue was, Indopersia refused to capitulate, and the Pact forces refused to advance outwards and attack the Sakura Alliance, this was problematic for the Pact, since it meant that all they could do was carry on the siege of Indopersia, whilst the Sakura Alliance slowly whittled away at their defences.
Eventually, it became clear that a white peace would be the only solution to the war, since the Sakura Alliance refused to give up, and, even if they managed to push Spaldanian forces back, only more destruction would lie in wait for them.

This has been the largest war in the entire history of Voltarium, this four-month, or eight-day, war contained eight combatant nations, primarily being the Pact of Todias VS the Sakura Alliance. There was however no victor, as a white peace was decided upon, entitled; The Treaty of Katiko.
After the signing of the treaty, borders have resumed their prior positions.

"United We stand"
.

Backstory
The Soviet Union was formed after the assassination of Tsar Alexander II in 1881. Aided by European money and technology, the People’s Will, Russian anarchists and communists, created enough momentum to overthrow the aristocratic government and establish the world’s first socialist nation. The old feudal powers were cast down and the wealth was redistributed amongst the people. There was no room in the vast Soviet nation for non-communists and counter-revolutionaries. Soon everyone who was not convenient to the government was removed on that pretext.

The new Red government believed it to be their mission to spread the creed of communism across the world and the Soviet propaganda machine made the soviet people accept this as their mission as well. Soon, the People’s Will forgot that the Europeans helped them come to power and began funding socialist uprisings across Europe, Asia and South America. But the old colonial powers of Europe were firmly against communism and crushed the uprisings with extreme prejudice.

The Soviet response was all out war against the European aristocrats and oppressors as the propaganda machine presented them. The Soviet people took up arms with radical fervor and thus began the Great European War.

The Soviet Union wants to spread the joy and progress of communism to the rest of the proletariat of the world. They see this as their mission and would go to any lengths to see it fulfilled.

USSR Military

Basics
The Union commits waves of men and tanks motivated by propaganda powers and units, with heavy walkers spearheading assaults. They have cost effective heavy armor and cheap light infantry, backed up by snipers and other support weapons

The affects of aggressive soviet propaganda are never more prominent than in their own basic infantry that comprise as the bulk of their armed forces. Conscripts by definition have no choice whether they join the army or not with desertion and cowardice being executable offences. The peacetime red army consisted of a mixture of professional soldiery and armed militia, as Europe began to blaze the militias were quickly merged with the territorial forces and soon followed by the conscription of bodily able eighteen year old men and over. Certain exceptional specialists were exempt if they belonged to a vital military or defence industry but otherwise conscription was a holy duty to a lifetime of service. And of course there was always mind control as an alternative.

The Soviet Union controls manpower in such vast quantities that it’s the sad truth that the most of the red army is considered expendable. The Soviet conscripts are on the lowest rung of the metaphorical ladder being little more than cannon fodder, the call of the motherland may be strong but not every communist is brave enough to die for his country. Voluntary enlistment into the army is heavily encouraged, a subtle national curriculum and military scouts employed in many sectors of Russian society mean that capable killers are prepared and found from a young age. The conscripts who are called into service comprise of everyone else, former prisoners are especially common during conscription drives with regular penal units being formed, but it is the officers assigned to conscripted units who have the unenviable task of making sure there charges are victorious or die in the process.

The standard issue equipment of conscripts certainly matches their life expectancy. The Moisin-Nagant is the staple rifle of conscripted forces. Its many adaptations and variants means that the models being used vary greatly, hwoever all often share one key thing, due to the necessary output of the firearm many are roughly made with imperfections such as tool marks being highly common. Conscripts are often allocated few rifle cartridges, with protracted gunfights forcing conscripts to scavenge ammunition from their fallen comrades mid fight. The standard conscript fatigues are similarly not expected to be used for long, tall snow boots and a long winter coat is the most protection they can expect from their uniform.

The true death sentence for most conscripts though, whether directly or indirectly, is from order 227 – not one step back.

The Soviet Partisan Teams' role within the red army is in many ways similar to The Conscripts. The Conscripts are dirt cheap measures to destroy hostile infantry, and consequently, the Partisan's teams are used for the disposable purpose of taking down hostile vehicles when the esteemed RPG Teams are not readily available or are too far away to address the threat.

The Partisan's Team's method of recruitment is quite colourful, usually recruited from local militias, and when times are truly desperate, from the adolescent girls' leagues prevalent in The Soviet Union. These women go through nearly identical training as the conscripts, and it may be perhaps for this reason that the Partisan Teams are unable to target agile air units when their weapons should prove more than sufficient in ripping apart light flyers. However, The Union's attempt at teaching Partisan's teams to destroy agile flyers have proved an exponentially difficult and costly enterprise. In order the maintain their purpose of dirt-chip stop gap measures to slow down the advance of European Armoured Divisions, the attempts at teaching Partisan Teams anti-air tactics has been abandoned

It is often considered as ironic that the Soviet Union would employ a weapon that is meant to counter mass infantry assaults. The maxim machine gun is a fully automatic field placement capable of unleashing a tirade equivalent to that of thirty rifles.

Surprisingly, the maxim gun requires a single individual to fire, but it is usually used by a crew of three in order to more easily deploy and reload. Despite traditionally being towed over long distances, the maxim gun can be transported around the battlefield using its wheelbase in necessary situations. However, as the weaponry is quite heavy, it requires the effort of the whole crew to move, and even then, it is quite limited in mobility. When the maxim gun has to be relocated, it is recommended that the soviet commanders have other soldiers cover fire for the Maxim Gun team.

As a support weapon, the maxim is a highly vulnerable one, used on the frontline and highly immobile, the moment the suppressive affect of its fire falters so too perishes the force that is keeping the enemy at bay. However in the larger scheme of things, the maxim is as effective as any support weapon there is, especially regarding its suppressive nature. It truly is a concept as fearsome as the red curtain.

The Soviet Union had long been infamous for its poorly trained infantrymen who served as nothing more than cannon fodder. This may be so for the unfortunate conscripts, but the same ideology is not shared with the Red Soldiers, the enlistees of the People’s Army.

The origins of the Red Soldiers root back to the dark, tyrannic days of the absolute monarchy of the Tsar, when these troopers were the loyal guards of aristocracy. When the brave people screamed for revolution and freedom, it was the job of the Tsarist guards to shoot such revolutionaries on sight. However, even that had limits for the dogs of the old ways, as they came to realize that the men they shot were the very people they had enlisted to protect. Soon, a large contingent of Tsarist guards joined the revolutionaries into a grueling civil war-one which the red revolution had won.

Due to this civil war, the surviving Tsarist guards (who had by then changed their names to the Red Soldiers) had gained much experience in urban warfare and were tuned into fine light infantrymen, using their sub-machine guns and vast numbers to their full potential. During the early days of the European war, the Storm Troopers were astonished to find that they were in fact no longer battling against incompetent conscripts, but capable soldiers of the people, and many of the aristocratic dogs were killed before they realized what had hit them. Due to this, the opposing forces of the Red Revolution now tread carefully whenever they enter Soviet territory, afraid that they would be surrounded by the fearsome Red Soldiers, with ferocity unmatched and guns blazing.

It is to note that any aspiring soldier who desires to become a comrade, a tank operator, or earn his place in any of the specialist infantry divisions have to serve a tour of duty as a red soldier.

The standard issue equipment of red soldiers is tantamount to Russian efficiency. The PPsh-41 is the staple firearm of these forces, forged from stamped steel. It is made from 87 components that can be assembled by unskilled labourers using simple equipments that can be found in most automotive repair garages, many of said components having been taken directly from other weapons with slight repurposing. It is estimated that PPsh factories can manage outputs of around 3000 units a day. The drum magazine uses soviet pistol ammo and has a commendable fire rate and capacity.

It may be true that the Red Soldiers are a well disciplined force, but it doesn’t mean that they are well educated. Like all proletarians, the Red Soldiers are taught basic literacy and military disciplines that are necessary to teach them the art of soldiering. This, however, leaves some aspects of intelligence to be desired by the People’s army; Many of the more complicated concepts of mathematics and methods of thought cannot be ingrained in a man after a certain age. So, it often comes to be that many Red Soldiers are unable to use weaponry that is more complicated than a direct ballistic weapon.

The men and women that are chosen to be used for RPG teams compose of a certain niche of citizens, ones that are innately able to understand the instinct and methods of thought necessary to use trajectory based weaponry. Their innate talent in the usage of concussive and anti tank weaponry may become evident at various periods of time, whether it be in the first days of boot camp, in midst of the front lines or even through factory work. Whatever the case may be, soldiers and civilians who demonstrate their innate talents and potential in demolition are recruited to become a proud member of the RPG Teams.

Men chosen to serve in RPG teams are trained for six months in advanced mathematics, trajectory, and the creation of improvised explosives. By the time their training is done, these soldiers are able to use their anti-tank weaponry to such a degree of skill to be able to aim for fuel tanks, treads, and other unprotected, delicate parts to immobilize hostile armored vehicles from a distance of 300 meters. This in turn give the People’s Army the option of either bringing in additional anti-tank weaponry to destroy the immobilized and defenseless vehicle, or more often, allow the RPG teams to finish the vehicle off by themselves.

Many children of the Soviet Union dream of becoming members of RPG teams, more so than snipers, tank operators, and seemingly other more glamorous military careers. This may be quite a surprise for foreign observers, but with enough background knowledge in the history of the Soviet Union, the reasons for this strange phenomena becomes quite clear. The most prominent factor is that the Soviet Union’s greatest opponent happens to be the European Alliance, which makes heavy use of armored vehicles, so the RPG has often been seen by the people as a sign of the glorious people’s rebellion to Monarchies. Other minor reasons include the fact that the original RPG was developed by the soldiers in the midst of battle, instead of being created through the capitalistic military complex famed in the Alliance and Republic, and that veteran RPG team members are prime candidates to become vehicle gunners.

In February of 1890, the Russian inventor Nicholas Yagn submitted a patent for an “Apparatus for Facilitating Walking, Running, and Jumping.” The device used compressed air to aid the wearer in moving. It was only the latest of his designs, but it is considered to be the first exoskeleton-like device. It was also the last thing he patented. Shortly thereafter, the mechanical engineer disappeared into the secret world of military projects. He spent the next 20 years working with some of the Soviet Union’s finest minds to develop technologies no one had dreamed possible. His ideas provided the inspiration that led to the development of the walking tanks which now strike fear into the enemies of the people, but he always remained focused on the development of smaller-scale devices which would improve the lives of the workers.

Yagn’s first efforts made real the device he had imagined. Dubbed the YG1 “Hodunki”, it was a proof of concept but was deemed impractical. Complicated and expensive, its reliance on the user for power limited its usefulness. The leaders of the Union, however, found the possibilities of this gadget compelling and continued to fund his work. His team produced several more prototype walkers before his death in 1911, but none of these were useful. The primary limitation of his designs always proved to be the power source. People were simply incapable of providing enough power to drive anything that truly enhanced their combat effectiveness, and the engines of the time were too bulky and inefficient to be used for anything of this scale. The project was shut down, and the Yagn’s ideas — locked away in a vault — were soon forgotten.

Twenty-six years later, the war continued and many advances had been made. The first prototype Hammer walker had been successfully tested and, while they worked the kinks out, a chance discovery of the archived documents revived this dead project. Work began on a new personal armor suit, using the latest engine technology. The YG11 was flawed, however. It employed a supposedly bulletproof dome to give the user the required visibility, but the confined space and lack of ventilation caused the glass to fog up and effectively blind the wearer. The second iteration incorporated vents on the side of the chassis, but they compromised the armor and proved to be far too easy to target. The third variation replaced the vents with a rudimentary cooling system, but it was deemed too fragile for field use. In the fourth version, they replaced the dome with small windows that contained small vents around the sides and a fan-driven intake vent on the bottom of the compartment. It took some time, and a few minor modifications, but the result passed field trials and was put into production.

The YG11-4 ‘Medved’ completely encases the wearer in steel armor far stronger than anything he could hope to wear unaided. It also mounts two machine guns and a small mortar, making it an exceptionally effective and versatile heavy infantry unit. It is rugged, mobile, and deadly. Yagn’s legacy may very well change the face of combat forever.

The Soviet Paratroopers are the finest anti-personnel infantrymen available to the People’s Army and it wouldn’t be too difficult to know why. While the majority of the people’s army is subject through promotion through experience and continued competence, prospective Paratroopers are chosen from a young age, when they demonstrate immense potential for both cunning and violence.

When they are picked out from the herd of children to train as paratroopers, the children are sent straight to the Soviet military academy to be molded into perfect soldiers. When they complete their five years of training, all Paratroopers who have passed/survived the training are left with with impeccable discipline, pragmatic minds, iron-like bodies, and most importantly, an absolute lack of sympathy.

The soviet paratroopers are known as one of the few forces in the Soviet Union to be widely deployed with heavy machine guns. Officially known as the DP 28, this automatic weapon is able to unload as many bullets as the standard sub-machine guns used by the red soldiers, albeit with a far higher range and with heavier caliber. In the rare cases in which the Paratroopers are to encounter armored vehicles, the Paratroopers have been given sticky bombs to make quick work of them, making them a bane to anything that moves.

The similar doctrines of the Soviet Paratroopers and the Alliance Stormtroopers have put much pressure upon the Alliance’s armies, as the European generals realize that they may no longer have a distinct advantage in terms of superiority of quality...

With the introduction of tanks from the European Alliance, the Soviet Union dedicated much effort and resources in finding an efficient method to destroy these terrifying spectacles of human engineering. The first weapons to be deployed against these heavily armored vehicles were essentially oversized rifles, fired with the hopes of penetrating the hulls of vehicles. While there was much to be desired, these Anti-Tank Rifles proved to be sufficient tools to halt several assaults made by European mechanized divisions.

However, as European Tanks gained thicker armor and the Soviet Union introduced the RPG, the Anti-Tank Rifles were sent to reserve forces or retired entirely. The proud soldiers that used to so valiantly hold Soviet defense lines were obscured by the popularity and versatility of the RPG, and in turn were laughed at for their archaic and obsolete nature.

The desperate nature of the Battle of Budapest forced the Soviet Red Army to redeploy these dishonored infantrymen to cover their sudden retreat. Without proper support and little to no recent battlefield experience, the surviving and newly established Anti-Tank Sniper Teams were forced to perform hit and run tactics against armored vehicles they were never meant to do battle against. Suffice to say, their “Anti-Tank” Rifles proved completely inadequate in properly routing European forces. Even when AT Sniper Teams succeeded in destroying European armoured vehicles, the snipers were swiftly picked off by the Alliance’s elite infantrymen.

Abandoned by the retreating Red Army, the Anti-Tank Snipers were forced to continue their personal wars for weeks until the Soviet Union managed to regroup and recapture Budapest. The Soviet Red Solders were finally able to rescue the abandoned snipers in the aftermaths of the battle, and to their surprise, the AT Sniper Teams were different men entirely.

Through trials by blood and fire, the wielders of the Anti-Tank Rifles had managed to become skilled enough to turn their obsolete museum pieces into lethal instruments of war. At a moment’s notice, AT Snipers were able to quickly locate and target the weak points of various vehicles, at times even disable the sights of armored vehicles, temporally making their targets unable to fire a single shot. As a result, the Soviet Red Army had come to respect the Anti-Tank Snipers once again, and consequently swore to make proper use of them. This was especially important as the number of AT-Snipers who had survived their harsh times at Budapest was very few indeed.

For centuries snipers have changed the course of wars and determined the outcomes of battles. Napoleon and Wellington used chosen men, hand picked for their skill with the rifle. It was the famous French philosopher Voltaire who said ‘’God is not on the side of the big battalions, but on the side of those who shoot best”. The snipers of the Union are a living incarnation of this theory. Ask your standard Alliance infantryman what he fears more, the boom of the artillery in the distance or the painful silence of a patrol, guaranteed they would rather the canon. ‘The only comfort is that it’s a quick death”, said corporal Jameson of the 31st Alliance rifles.

Brought together from all over the Union, this crack company of skilled marksmen takes no prisoners. They don’t discriminate between officers of privates; all are at the mercy of their trigger finger. Indeed they are so feared by the enemy, that when they are captured they are executed without fail. Trained in the arts of survival and stealth, the Union snipers and their brothers in the armoured sniper division hunt in packs. They creep through the debris of blown up houses and desolate streets using whatever they can to hide. They lie in wait, sometimes for days, waiting for their moment to strike. If the other five powers want to bring the war to the Soviets, they better get ready to hide and duck for cover.

The Commissar is an officer from the Council of the People's Commissars. Nicknames "Narkom" these officers served to inspire discipline and patriotism in the soldiers on the field. A Commissar is attached to each regiment of the Red army so that he can keep a close eye on dangerous bourgeois influences among the soldiers.

During the heaviest fighting between Europe and the Union, the Commissar can be found with the soldiers urging them onwards and inspiring them to acts of bravery and daring. A harsh but necessary duty of a Commissar is to make examples of cowardice and lack of faith in the inevitable Soviet victory, with their absolute authority laid out in Order 220. Soldiers who perform in a manner that the regimental Commissar disapproves of might count themselves lucky to be simply shot out of hand, rather than face a short life of clearing mines with bare hands, being tied to a tree in front of the unit's position to entice enemy snipers, or any number of sadistic punishments.

Ensuring the Commissar is not turned upon by the troops is Order 221; any regiment whose Commissar is dead or missing, for any reason, is reformed as a penal regiment. The 32nd Guards Regiment, having lost their Commissar during the arduous Siege of Odessa, was subsequently forced out of their defensive positions and into a European minefield ahead of the main body during the failed Odessa Breakout. Since this notable occurrence, Order 224 now clarifies Commissar may write a letter of pardon for his regiment once delivered to a field hospital, as the 32nd's Commissar died of dysentery.

The People's Commissar inspires a mix of feelings - awe and admiration from committed Communists and fear and anxiety in the eyes of less devout soldiers. Both of these help them drive the soldiers forward.

"You will die by the enemy in service of the Motherland, or you will die by my hand in service of your fear and shame"

When the communists took over the Russian Tzardom, they didn't only change the political system of the nation. They also put strenuous effort into changing the national identity of the people of the now gone Russian Empire.

Across many villages and cities in the Soviet Union, there are the People's trucks. These vehicles , the brainchild of the Ministry of Propaganda, would deliver the Russian people, their new identity. Broadcasting party propaganda about the bright future that communism offered, the people's truck became a part of life for the ordinary soviet citizen.

When the terrible war against Europe started, the people's truck accompanied the armies of the Union on their campaign. Even in the heat of battle, as bullets and shells were flying, the soldiers would hear the broadcast of the people's truck urging them forward against the imperialists of Europe, telling them that this is a just war and that they are liberators.

"Forward comrades, kill the Hungarian imperialist dogs! The protetariat of Hungary cried for salvation! Do not turn your back on their cry!

The Soviet Union has lost many campaigns over the course of the Great War due to many reasons. However, the most apparent and damaging was the fact that the People’s Army lacked a proper scouting unit, as Soviet Generals found no need for scouting units in human wave tactics. When this issue was noted by Soviet High Command, the Union’s top engineers were immediately given the task of resolving this issue with limited funds. The fruits of their labor was the BA-10 Scouting Vehicle.

Essentially, the BA-10 is a modified variant of the People’s Truck. The radio and command gear previously outfitted on the iconic truck has been removed for reconnaissance gear and a light cannon for self defense. In order to minimize the weight of the vehicle for ease of production, the standard BA-10s are given only parts of the standard recon package considered necessary. This may seem to be a foolish method to cut the cost of production for some, but the fact that BA-10s are usually deployed in wolf packs makes this issue of dependency rather irrelevant. In fact, this partial specialization allows the crew of the BA-10 to increase its range of vision for every additional BA-10 in the vicinity while making these intriguing vehicles cheap enough for junior officers to deploy readily against armored targets.

The crew that man the BA-10 has also seen a general overhaul, composed of prospective crewmen for the beloved Bear Tank. As only those who prove themselves within the BA-10 are given the chance to man the Bear Tanks and the walkers, the casualty rate amongst the crew of the BA-10 is very high. The fact that the BA-10 contributes profoundly in combat with its high field of vision does not seem to help either.

The Flak Tank is a self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle based on the Bear Tank chassis. Employed when Soviet Air force assets are unavailable or air-superiority is in the balance, Flak tanks provide essential anti-air protection for the army or mechanized column and can also serve in a ground support role, where they are effective against infantry and light vehicles.

Manufactured in hundreds of Soviet factories, the Flak tank is a specialized vehicle used for mobile air defense, protecting important sites and columns from air assaults. Its linked quad-cannon automated turret contains targeting and tracking equipment, including a predictive logic-engine, which allows it to lock onto and track enemy aircraft regardless of any evasive maneuvering. These control four long-barreled Autocannons firing heavy caliber, high velocity explosive rounds capable of firing six hundred rounds a minute,[6] shredding through enemy aircraft fuselages thanks to their high rate of fire. When used against infantry and light vehicles these rounds are equally devastating, allowing even a single Flak Tank to decimate entire formations in a heartbeat. While the use of a Flak Tanks in this role is a breach of official regulations, Soviet commanders often overlook such infractions.

The quad Autocannons are operated by dedicated gunner, who sits in the turret along with a loader to assist the auto-loaders, while the vehicle commander, driver and a communications operator sit in the main hull.

The Vulture tank is a recent addition to the soviet armies. With the rest of the world making increased use of rocket-based weaponry, Soviet High Command could not afford to lose that arms race. With the introduction of the V2 launcher by the European Alliance, the Soviet generals understood the usefulness of rocket propelled weaponry first hand.

Utilizing the chassis's of the Flak tank, the Vulture is armed with a double barrel rocket launcher that allows him to fire projectiles at great distances. Armed with armor penetrating missiles and high explosion missiles, the Vulture can make short work out of enemy artillery installations or enemy rocket launchers.

Used in combination with the massed armor and infantry charges of the Red Army, The Vulture has proved invaluable with its 100mm thick armor. This allows the vulture to take a few punches but still remain combat active even when facing some of the toughest enemies out there.

The “Kliment Voroshilov” heavy tank is a battle tank of the Soviet Red army. Named after notable party member, the KV could boast one of the heaviest armors in the world. As tensions between the Soviet Union and the European Alliance were rising prior to the European war, the soviet spy rings in Europe were busy at work. Many classified documents were accessed and many schematics of European weaponry were leaked to the Soviet Union.

By the time the war erupted, the Soviet Armies were well prepared to deal with the European combatants and the KV battle tank is the expression of these preparations. Based on the classified documents that were obtained from the spy rings, it became apparent that the European tank armies are yet to develop high-caliber cannon with substantial destructive power. The KV tank armor alloy and thickness were designed based on that and it proved a successful gamble.

In the first months of the war, the European alliance simply had no response to the KV. So effective was its armor that the Europeans were incapable of destroying it with their tanks or anti-tank weapons and had to rely on 88 mm anti-air guns or 105 mm guns to knock them out. This changed with the introduction of the Siege tank, but the KV tank remains a force to be reckoned with.

The Bear Tank is the iconic steel embodiment of the Red Army; fiercely stubborn in battle and seemingly limitless in number. This rugged and dependable tank design has been used for years and while fundamental changes in armored doctrine have swept the world, this venerable warhorse thunders on.

The mainstay of armored regiments across the Soviet Union, the Bear tank is produced in the thousands in the innumerable re-education workshops and sprawling factories across the Union. While slow in comparison to other vehicles and lacking in advanced technology, its ruggedness and reliability are the tank's defining attribute. Emphasizing heavy firepower and armor over mobility, it is rare for Soviet infantry to advance from their trenches without the support of the Bear tanks. Indeed, it is difficult to keep conscripts in front of the tanks, in a skirmish line as doctrine insists, where they can clear mines!

The Bear tank design has been in service since the Soviet Union's opening salvos, a testament to its simple but efficient and easily producible design, making it arguably the best tank in the world. Those who argue against this claim usually say it is only so ubiquitous because Soviet factories can't stop to retool for an improved model. To suggest it could be improved implies it is not the best tank in the world, and such talk leads to re-education workshops where such defeatists can make the best tank in the world.

The Bear Tank’s armor is not the most sophisticated but is practical and rugged, allowing it to weather the harshest environments or enemy fire. A welded steel hull and distinctive cast steel turret combine to make it proof against all but the most deadly attacks. Even impacts powerful enough to pierce the armor on paper frequently deflect away thanks to excellent armor sloping from all directions, though such impacts leave the crew stunned. The armor is thickest on the tank's front, with decreasing thickness along the sides and rear, to better stretch the finite output of armor plate from the Union's steel mills.

Occasionally bombing raids on railroads and mills hamper the arrival of steel plate to the factories, while smaller re-education workshops continue to pour small parts into the assembly line. In these instances, the countless road wheels, transmission gears and other widgets waiting for new hulls are simply boxed up and carried by Bear tanks on their way to the front. Enterprising crews have since found the recovery winch's ratchet wheel can replace a drive sprocket with a little filing, as well as a hundred other mix-and-match repairs. Thanks to the Bear tank's loose mechanical tolerances, often the wrong part still works as well as the right part, at least until the tank gets knocked out in the next offensive.

The Conqueror Tanks are a series of heavy tanks developed as a successor to the KV-series by the Soviet Union. The heavy tank was designed with thick armor to counter the European 88 mm guns, and carried twin main guns that were capable of defeating the German Heavy and Siege Tanks. It was mainly a breakthrough tank, firing a heavy high-explosive shell that was useful against entrenchments and bunkers. The Conqueror was put into service as a spearhead in the Battle of Vilnius by the Red Army in the late stages of the European War.

Armed with Twin 100 mm guns and 120mm of advanced armor, the Conqueror Tank was the first Soviet response to the super heavy siege tanks of the European Alliance. European grenadier and Heavy tank units had considerable difficulty with the Conqueror when it was encountered due to its thick armor, which shrugged off hits from European infantry anti-tank weapons such as the armor penetration grenades and even the United Republic bazooka. Even the 90 mm AP shell fired by the main gun of Heavy Tank could not penetrate the frontal armor of the Conqueror at normal battle ranges.

The true strength of the Conqueror tank lies in its twin linked main cannons. This allows the crew of the conqueror tank to attack two targets in a very short amount of time or focus its entire firepower on a single target and reduce it to shouldering scrap. A favorite tactic of Conqueror tank crews is to fire one of the cannons and then aim and fire the other while the first is being re-armed. It proved frighteningly effective in the late stages of the war.

A Hammer is a highly technological combat walker of intermediate size used by the Red army as a heavy infantry support for their soldiers and as a anti-tank weapon platform. This engine of war is powered by 4 diesel engines and has a mounted mortar to provide artilery cover for advancing infantry.

When first introduced to the battlefields of Europe, the Hammer was unbeatable. Armies were shattered by armored regiments of these walkers and for a long time the European armies had no appropriate responce to the high firing rate and attack power of the walker.

Armored with 10cm thick depleted uranium armor, the walker could withstand almost all attacks and continue inexorably towards its goal.

The Inferno hammer is a super-heavy walker and variant of Hammer walker used by the forces of the Soviet Union. The Inferno hammer replaces the heavy machine guns and mortar of the Hammer with a heavy flamer. By removing the large ammunition section required for the machine guns and mortar to operate extra space has been opened up near the rear of the vehicle which allows the Inferno Hammer to have large fuel tanks which he uses to operate the flamer. The Inferno Hammer excels in the exact opposite role of the regular Hammer, as an assault and infantry support walker, as its armament allows it to easily rip through infantry and light fortifications.

On the battlefield, the Inferno Hammer serves as a line breaker vehicle, whose purpose is to maul enemy infantry waves at medium range. When configured offensively, the Inferno Hammer will rumble toward its objective, shred any surrounding infantry to pulp, flush out any survivors with its Heavy Flamers, and provide suppressive fire for advancing friendly infantry. Additionally, the high profile of the Inferno Hammer can easily be used as an artillery observation vehicle.

Like all the variants of the Hammer, the Inferno Hammer suffers from poor top speed and manoeuvrability. Additionally, while the walker’s flamer allows it to fend off any marauding enemy infantry at medium range, the Inferno Hammer is unable to fight heavily armoured opponents effectively. A single Battle Tank can spell the doom of a Inferno Hammer by running from it while blasting away with its with impunity. More than any other of the Soviet vehicles, the Inferno Hammer requires support from the other elements of the Red Army to fulfill its mission.

One of the first creations of the red army to utilize bipedal walking systems, 'Маленький ужас' or "Little terror" was a quite simply a KV-2 turret on legs, nevertheless at the moment the Little terror was the world's first walking tank. Unfortunately, his time was not to be. Another competitor of the Walking project had already created The hammer. And the hammer was to be the first russian Walker to terrorize the enemies of the union, not Little terror. His armaments were nothing when compared to that of the hammer.

In spite of this his inventor had not lost hope, Rather than scrap the idea and sulk in the depths of eternal depression. He sought to remake and rearm his creation to best that of his competitor. In order to impress the red army... He mounted two short barreled 420mm battleship cannons to the chassis and enhanced everything on the walker around these weapons. At its unveiling, it was quickly brought into production as the European alliance had unleashed their Iconic Siege tanks. Hammers could only Delay the siege tank for mere moments as the Siege tanks pure armor and overcharged cannon made them seem unstoppable. This changed fortunately. When supported with Hammers, the Artillery walker could bombard a siege tank from range while the close ranged Hammer came in and annoyed the Siege tank until its armor cracked under the constant bombardment.

Created deep in the heart of the Kremlin, the sickle was designed to stand for the soviet ideals, crushing anything that opposes from above. The sickle was the ultimate secret project, using the most cutting edge helicopter based innovations; it was a secret that was managed to be kept entirely until its introduction on the battlefield. European spies were sent to confirm some unconfirmed suspicions but disappeared entirely as if they never existed. Test flights were kept to a minimum, with components being tested in separation or theoretic equations used as alternatives. A single glorious test fight took place on the day of their first sortie; since they were secret nobody would know if they could arrive to their designated battlefield. Four sickles co-ordinated under codename scythe took their maiden flight, launching from a snow covered red square, the months of research and development hinged on that moment. The rotary blade technology successfully kept them aloft, with a particularly distinct thumping sound, with permission granted off they flew towards their first suspecting target, a Churchill tank column threatening St. Petersburg. They destroyed the helpless column with undeniable efficiency and ferocity. Only three of the helicopters returned to Moscow, this was due to a combat unrelated malfunction, but apart from that, the success of the prototype began a new dawn for aerial warfare with the enemies of the Soviet Union quaking at the news of this new, devastating weapon.

The exact specifications of the sickle are a closely guarded secret, even after its reveal. They are normally sighted at the head of a decisive action where few accurate records can be made afterwards, however experts around the world are certain that the technology supporting this gunship is extraordinarily advanced. A combination of auto cannons and wing mounted RPG launchers give it its edge against ground forces, however it is also speculated that advanced aiming system support its armaments. It also heavily armoured despite being commendably fast as well, what the armour actually comprises of is also expected be similarly prototypical. Finally the munitions are also not understood, the rockets are much more accurate and less prone to drifting, this is expected to be caused by the cyclone launchers fitted under the wing, they are also much more explosive, whether they are using incendiary rockets or something more advanced, either way it still compounds the effect on morale of seeing this chopper coming towards you and ferocity of its projectiles. Equally, the auto cannons also use highly effective anti armour rounds, these are expected to be unique piercing rounds but confirmation of these theories remains elusive, in the rare instance where a sickle is taken out of the sky, the volatility of the munitions on board often leaves little more than a smoking crater when it hits the earth.
