How and why you should obtain citizenship in New West Conifer

Why Obtain Citizenship?

Citizenship in New West Conifer has a variety of perks! And it allows you to enjoy this game to its full extent. Here's a short list:

  • Interact with our close-knit community! Citizenship gives you more access to our Discord server, and lets you participate in our community events, game nights, competitions, and more.

  • Participate in government. With citizenship, you can run for office, obtain a government job, or write and vote on legislation in our General Assembly, which each citizen is automatically a member of.

  • Participate in our roleplay! New West Conifer's fantasy roleplay is well thought out, in-depth, and full of dedicated roleplayers.

  • Find out about the best parts of Nationstates. There's a lot of communities out there, but here at New West Conifer, we have a long history and we know how to run a region. And we want you to be a part of that.

How Do I Obtain Citizenship?

There are two possible ways to obtain citizenship. We recommend you take route one. However, a mandatory step regardless of what route you decide to take is to join our LinkDiscord, which is where you can apply for citizenship.

Route One

Join the World Assembly - you can do this by navigating to the World Assembly tab on your left, or by clicking here. From there, you should be able to find a button to join the World Assembly.

Once you have joined the World Assembly, navigate to our Discord server and find the channel #the-chamber.

Ping our Commissioner of Internal Affairs The Fezzian League using @Commissioner of Internal Affairs.

Then, state that you are applying for citizenship. Provide a link to your nation, which resides in this region with WA-membership.

Then, you are obligated to disclose any regions you are currently a citizen of or formerly were a citizen of. You can ignore this if you are completely new to Nationstates.

Route Two

If for whatever reason you cannot join the World Assembly, or you do not wish to you may take Route Two. Instead of WA-membership, you are required to maintain a nation within New West Conifer for at minimum a week.

From then, you can apply for citizenship through the same process outlined in Route One.

NBB Wrapped
"Whilst everyone is in eager anticipation your Spotify Wrapped statistics, we thought we would produce a similar style summary", says concerned citizen NUCL

Without much ado, I'll introduce this topic by saying that NUCL has produced something truly special for this edition of TSR. I'll copy here what he's written as a foreword, but please do click through afterward to view NBB Wrapped!

It's that time of year where we reflect on everything that's happened over the past year, it's also the time where Spotify judges our tragic music obsessions from the past year. Whilst everyone is in eager anticipation your Spotify Wrapped statistics, we thought we would produce a similar style summary of all the major statistics from The Region That Has No Big Banks. This year the region has reached new heights, and this could arguably be the biggest year in the regions history, from a commend of our regional founder, nine TSR editions published, five edition of a new regional podcast, five treaties signed and 15 games nights held... there has been plenty happening within our region. I won't spoil all the statistics but that gives you a flavour of the magnitude of this year in NBB.

November Cultural Events
Justice has failed us..

During November, we finished Spooky Week with a bang, hosting the Big Banker Night and the Common People Night and concluding our Murder Mystery. The Big Banker Night highlighted specifically paid games, featuring Lethal Company and Garry’s Mod, but it still saw a relatively good turnout. The Common People Night featured only free games, and as such saw higher turnout, though generally these events did not attract as many people as we typically expect them to. The Murder Mystery did gather quite a bit of interest, as our region’s detectives attempted to solve the question of who killed Yodle; in the end, The Washington Federation received a sentence of life in prison… and the real culprit, Ardeyn, went free!

On the 15th, we held a Joint Games Night with The Leftist Assembly, a region with which we have recently reopened relations after a lengthy stretch without formal ties. This event was massively successful, seeing the participation of nearly twenty people at its peak, including Comria, New Samon, and Marxist Land of Peoples from TLA, among many others from NBB and our friends. Our official cultural events slowed after that, though, as the administration shifted to preparing for the upcoming Winter Olympics and the 12 Days of No Big Banks, so expect December to be packed with fun events!

The Winter Olympics reveals its Host City
The Olympic Torch burns on

On the back of a successful cultural venture in the form of this year’s Regional Summer Olympics, it was only natural that a winter version would come around sooner rather than later. Thus, we present the Winter Regional Olympics, alternatively the Regional Winter Olympics! Since this summer, the Regional Olympics have been a way for us to involve our embassy partners in our cultural events (that aren’t our game nights). These Olympics have been run since 2022, with the inaugural editions being run for NBB members only and the 2023 editions being run for members of the InterLeft.

Compared to the Summer Olympics’ 20 events run, these games will have half the events, at 10. In an additional change, this winter edition will feature a home-field advantage for the hosts for the first time! For reference, the results of Olympic events are determined entirely by random number generation, with the advantage serving to give the host nation’s teams a slight… you know. With that in mind, a whopping 20 bids were submitted by both NBB residents and embassy partners, with 37 nations putting forward their votes toward these bids!

It’s through this article that we reveal that the city of Eleuthens, Southsea, will be hosting these 2024 Winter Regional Olympic Games with a grand total of 5 votes!

Expect more from us as we near the start of the Olympics on December 21st (save the date), especially when we open up our Olympic participation poll this next week! If you have an embassy with our region, we’ll be sure to contact you about it! See you then!

The State of Roleplay
"FINALLY", exclaims a weary region

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Gine Caruttiva who added borders, resources, and biomes to the roleplay map created by Syrasia, and is currently filling in the map based on everybody's claims, our region’s roleplay is very close to being restarted. Claibornia is beginning the process of confirming each nation’s lore, and our RP Admin team is working hard to ensure that claims do not conflict. We are very excited to finally reopen our roleplay! Before we officially start, I’d like to remind everyone that our roleplay is specifically not based on the real world - you cannot claim real-world borders, as the map has been created from scratch, and you cannot roleplay as a real-world nation, even if that nation does not currently exist. We’re excited to bring you a fully fresh start to our roleplay, free of the complications and arguments that arise from real-world situations... and instead boasting all-new complications and arguments!

Regional Census Held
So THAT's why he's called the Head of Data!

On November 5th I made an announcement that the Ministry of Domestic Affairs was going to do the Census, which the Ministry does every term. It is a chance for us to see what people think of the current Administration. It is also a chance for the people to suggest stuff and give feedback to the Government.

I wrote a report on it which you can read right here: page=dispatch/id=2579065

I will talk about some of the results here though, we got 30 responses to this census which is great! 40% of respondents say that we need to improve our RMB, in my opinion our RMB is great, we have a very active RMB.

We also got a lot of suggestions for games at our games nights, which I will (or if I already did) share with the Culture Committee.

Thanks for doing the Census! I enjoyed running it and hoped that you enjoyed it too.

Editorial - Seeking New Contributors
"Help", begs ATG

Full disclosure – I’m currently writing this article right at the end of my break from university on November 30th. If you check the date of publication, you’ll notice that yes, that’s the day before this edition is released.

Why am I telling you this? Well, handling a paper like this is a real passion of mine. I genuinely love TSR, and writing articles and editing the paper is something I hope to do for a long time to come. However, I’ve been trying to do this alone for too long, and it’s catching up with me. As a result, I want to send out an official call for contributors of any kind to The Social Reformer!

Writing for this paper is a breeze, especially if you pick a topic that interests you. We’ve had people cover issues of massive importance, like the troubles facing the LGBTQ+ community, but we’ve covered far more granular issues as well. If there’s something, either in the real world or right here on NationStates, that interests you, please reach out. I’d love to include articles written by our readers. It’s so important to highlight the thoughts and dedication of our region’s citizens.

If you don’t feel like writing, but maybe you’re an artist, or you like making puzzles, that’s perfect too! TSR isn’t just about articles, I just happen to love to write and have a little too much free time. Genuinely, if there’s anything at all that you even sort of think would make a good addition to our newspaper, please do reach out to me. This paper is about our region and our community, and we can only improve by featuring the hard work of that community.

Treaty of BANK-EU-RO-224
"It's like a SWIFT code", explains ATG

In late October, Faralried and I were approached by UPC, President of Europeia, asking if we’d be interested in signing a treaty with their region. Europeia was a fairly recent inclusion to our consulates, but they’d already supported us greatly in our efforts to commend Yodle, and many members of our region have been a consistent presence at EBC broadcasts, so our regions had already grown quite close. As a result, coincidentally, we'd actually already been planning to approach Europeia about a treaty, so UPC’s message came as a very welcome surprise.

The process of drafting and accepting the treaty was very straightforward. The treaty provides for the construction of onsite embassies, mutual defense and information sharing, and cultural, technological, and World Assembly collaboration. Our regional podcast took a great deal of inspiration from the EBC’s own podcast, and Europeia has been nothing but kind and helpful to us, so we’re quite pleased to open up this new chapter of relations with them! Here’s to the future, and to creatively-named treaties!

New Sinkers
Surely that's not going to cause any problems.

Late on November 26th (or the 27th, depending on your time zone), the NationStates community discovered that two new regions, The Outback and the Plains of Perdition, had been founded. Stunningly, these regions were designated ‘Sinkers’ like The Rejected Realms, and already, ejected nations were arriving at these new regions. For the first time in many years, NationStates had new GCRs.

Controversy arose almost immediately. Officials from The Rejected Realms were quite understandably upset, as their ‘spawn rate’ had effectively been drastically cut, and they were no longer guaranteed the massive rate of new nations that they’d experienced for years prior. Debate raged about the presence of these new regions, their impact on the game, and generally the reason for creating them in the first place. TRR officials seemed upset that, following their requests for a ‘mute button’ for nations (seeing as they couldn’t eject or ban troublemakers), they were instead met with two new competing Sinkers. They could eject nations, but those ejections weren’t necessarily permanent, and they were losing a great deal of their largest source of population growth at the same time.

Watching the rapidly developing situation, though, one thing was clear – a scramble for power was imminent. GCRs have been famously (or infamously) stable for years now, with coups becoming essentially unheard of given new developments in regional security. Two entirely new GCRs, though, meant two regions with no long-standing security networks or endorsement programs. Rumors bubbled about which Sinkers would become targets to which group of regions, and coalitions began to assemble, with diplomatic channels becoming a flurry of activity late that night. At a time when many of our regional officials were on vacation, this caused a great deal of chaos as we scrambled to formulate our response to the situation.

Before we had a chance to decide our favored course of action, the dust had already settled on the first wave of activity. The Outback came under the control of a coalition of members of The North Pacific, The West Pacific, and Lone Wolves United, who rapidly set up a sovereign regional government. Similarly, forces of The League and Concord, along with Europeia, took control of the Plains of Perdition, creating a Primarchate under Rhaza, also known as Quebecshire. In this unstable time, it is uncertain whether these administrations will remain in power long enough to cement their reigns. However, it is reassuring to see each of these regions attempting to establish an independent, sovereign government, and not simply function as an extension of some other, larger region. The Region That Has No Big Banks has officially recognized the new governments of these GCRs and wishes them luck during the possibly tumultuous times ahead.

Hulldom Resigns
"Shocking news", claims Faralried in what may be an understatement

In the most shocking news of this week, Hulldom, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for The North Pacific and the Governor of our great friends over in Blue Ridge has resigned both positions and seemingly intends to leave NS after another IC scandal.

Hulldom who unfortunately had a poor ending to his own delegacy of The North Pacific due to a very public IC scandal appears to be retiring from NS due to another. Speaking in a statement in the Blue Ridge server early in the morning of November 30th Hulldom acknowledged the scandal involved sharing private TNP intel with an unnamed TNP ally without further specifics of the incident in question. Hulldom went on to detail his abdication from governorship and transfer of power to Adkissa and then ended with announcing his intent to let Hulldom CTE after season 4 card inscription.

Obviously this comes as a shock to us here at No Big Banks, and we wish Adkissa and Blue Ridge all the best in these chaotic times. As treaty partners our ears are always open to help and assist in any way we can. Long live Adkissa’s reign!

Adkissa

DISCLAIMER: This interview was conducted before Hulldom's abdication, and as such may not fully reflect the developments of the last week. On a personal note, though, I think these responses are both remarkably well formulated and also a great indication of how Adkissa plans to continue with their newfound responsibilities.

Hey! For those who don’t know me, I’m Adkissa. Right now I serve as the First Minister, World Assembly Delegate, and Chair of the Executive Council in Blue Ridge, but you’ll also find me in Forest, Starlight, or TRTHNBB every now and then.
Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming at first. For the longest time I was ambassador to ~15 regions so I struggled to keep a consistent presence in each one, but I still follow the same philosophy of trying to pop in conversation every now and then. It’s a lot easier in some communities than others, but it’s worth it once you get to know the people in other regions.
Blue Ridge was on my radar almost since it was founded, but it took me until March before I brought myself to move in. I’ve always found it easier to join communities that are on the newer side so, once I finally took the step to leave my old community, joining Blue Ridge ended up being one of the best things I’ve done on NS.
I go through what I can best describe as phases regarding roleplay activity, and Blue Ridge’s setting definitely brought be into one. The idea of a modern world setting with individual but collective changes in history gave me a chance to expand on the intended idea I had for my nations lore, and let me build it as I went. As always though, I jumped in headfirst and burnt myself out after a few months!
For any region to build a community, you’ve got to welcome people in with open arms. Acceptance and fair treatment are driving factors in why some regions thrive while others fail, and by not welcoming people in you’re doing yourself and your region a detriment. The Golden Rule, treating others how you want to be treated, is a driving factor in my mentality and it’s something I think every community leader should strive to pursue in its entirety.
I love to contribute to the communities I take part in, and I’ve found that the best way for me to do that is by working in government where I can follow public interests. My first role as Minister of Integration really represented that as I tried to find community passions, gather numbers for events, and codified welcoming people into the region as standard.
The bulk of founding those connections is really just finding regions that are similar to ours and running from there. Between opening embassies with the Augustin Alliance, The League, and The (amazing) Region That Has No Big Banks, we got ourselves in a pretty comfortable position with likeminded people that I think we’ll see long term bonding and growth with. I would say that my largest business accomplishment during that term was definitely the number of embassies we opened, but personally I think that giving Blue Ridgers connections outside of their own region is the best thing I did.
I wanted to run for First Minister so that I could bring further impact on Blue Ridge. By holding the office I get to lead the government, so I have a much wider range of abilities to positively influence BR into the region that we want it to be. In regards to what I really wanted to change, though, it wasn’t much outside of clerical procedures. The region has always had an amazing community and I’m lucky to be a part of it.
Wow, I guess I’m not sure where to start! Within Blue Ridge I’ve done my best to establish a range of procedures, running from numbers to welcoming people in, and make sure that we’re continuing to develop the positive yet expressive community we’re known for. I also work closely with Basshobia and Oseanic, our respective former and current Ministers of Culture, to make sure that we’re pushing forward with events that capture people in. The majority of my first term was definitely focused on foreign affairs, as I worked diligently to open new embassies with likeminded regions and, eventually, signed two treaties with the Augustin Alliance and TRTHNBB respectively. Thanks to the incumbent MoFA, Blussouria, it’s become a lot easier to continue building relationships with our embassy partners and I hope to keep that same steam going forward.
The delegacy in Blue Ridge is constitutionally just government representation in the World Assembly. While I sometimes task myself with writing recommendation dispatches on important votes to us or our embassy partners (like the recommendation for Commend Yodle and Appreciation for Bigfoot and the Unknown), my primary duty is working with our overarching government to encourage WA membership and participation. Seeing as the WA is often a focal point of gameplay and a center for creative activity, it’s certainly a important that everyone join the WA if possible — every vote counts, after all!
I love newsletters. Whether it be something short about small regional updates, or a compendium of events across an entire season, regional tabloids do a stellar job at giving the reader a glimpse into the thought process of a region and those running it. It’s always a good thing to have regular publications, though I will admit Blue Ridge hasn’t put many out so far.
Treaties represent the legalization of an existing bond between two regions. Even if not a cultural nature, it bonds two regions together in a pledge of mutual friendship for the foreseeable future. By signing one, you’re making an investment in another community and asking that they do the same for yours in a spirit of camaraderie and mutual benefit. As for why I approached with a treaty proposal with NBB, it was honestly something I had been thinking of for some time. Blue Ridge is undoubtedly close with NBB, it’s imposible to argue against y’all not being our foremost cultural partner, and I wanted to make sure that it was properly reflected through formal arrangements. It was a pleasure to work with you and Fara through that speedy signing process, and I can’t thank Hull enough for giving me the “Hometown Banking Compact” name.
If not anything else, my time on NS has taught me that you need to be willing to compromise and that you should always be wary when managing a community. Out of every mistake I’ve made here, I think the one I would undo would to be wary of those around me and extra careful when managing a community. I would’ve saved myself a lot of stress had a younger Adkissa known to be less stubborn and more observant of cultural undertones.
If I could change anything about Blue Ridge, I think I would change what I know. I’d love to get more people involved in government, but I’m just not sure how to! As for NationStates as a whole, though, I think I would just want people to believe in second chances for those who deserve them. A lot would change if we would do that.

Gine Caruttiva

I just found the game through a youtube short, and thought "hey, that might sound cool" and then I made my nation. I didn't know I could change my nation name afterwards, so that's why I got my randomly generated one. I tried making another one, my main CT'ed for a while, but then I just let the other one die and went back to gine.
saw bernie, found him cool. and im socialist
idk, just fun and nice people. very welcoming, very happy, :3
I just found it cool, since the regions I was in were just very closed
I think Direct Democracy (even irl) is just the better option, limited corruption and expanding political rights. But in this region, I've learned that it would just be very inefficient. Could work in bigger regions with more activity, but not here.
I think that ATG had a cool thing going, and I wanted to be part of something bigger. But I just (personally) after a while thought that TPP wasn't very friendly, I was just ignored a lot or nothing every happened. NUCL offered me to join, and NUCL was PM at the time. Just thought it was cool. There were also talks about merging already, etc.
Mostly NUCL, and the interest in having a position in government
I like being voted into office instead of appointed. It shows me how much people like and support me. Running for election also gives you a wide range of influence (people getting to know about you)
Boring. I did reform the BLF in part and did a massive endortating campaign, but not much more. Then my position was just removed after NUCL passed the law to remove my Ministry.
I was disappointed and angry, but afterwards I just had to accept it. The PM, Mjau, didn't do much either, and I just didn't have much to do in my minor office afterwards.
Massively reforming the party at multiple occasions. Recruiting a massive amount of members and influencing the regional politics by a lot. Of course, this was only possible with the help of our members, especially my deputy NUCL. Without him, I would've probably not come so far.
Boring. I can't recall anything I did.
Thought I was too inexperienced. And not known enough. But now, next election, I will run for PM. I believe I'm ready.
As I stated in one of my bills, the DPM should also have power within the government. It is an elected position, and just being there for the PM to use in positions or just replace them doesn't make a lot of sense.
Lovely. It's a pleasure to work with our PM. But, I don't have much todo. Currently, I'm focusing on RP and finishing it up. But I'll pass some laws to give me like proper stuff to do.
Parties are not as important as irl. I believe that parties should be a group of people that are like-minded. Not a voting block, or a massive party whip. Our party also brought a lot of bills and iniatives through. As example, we have a bill writing form, where you can send us your bill idea and we'll write it for you/help you write it. Removing parties removes the right to assemble.
Be nice and respectful. You'll get rewarded as well.
I reject these allegations! Insinuations are a journalistic trick. These should not occur in the free democratic basic order. You should have questioned me differently! Now I ask myself: Where do they come from? Which institution are you? Is there a private association that turns a little opinion research into a business to encourage me to buy something?

Obtaining Citizenship

Not Convinced?

We've convinced a lot of people! See who's a citizen below with our Citizenship Roll.
