If there’s going to be a huge nation called the United States, there’s got to be a government that works. I’m uneasy as to how World War III comes into the argument.

yes and one that works should be drawn up post haste because this one does not. Look at everyone b*tching and moaning about the results of the election, clearly they are displeased with the outcome and a better system should take it's place to meet the needs of the people

I feel like someone needs to stand in between: take care of your language, both sides. De-escalate. Comment on arguments instead of the people who come up with them.

For WW3 I think the risk is real, so one doesn’t have to be excited to talk about it (although some do show excitement).

In contrast to the two that had happened, it’s weird that today’s warmongers are so ill prepared for a war, yet they still do it, and yet they still haven’t lost. Weird I’d say.

The current battlefields are unlikely to expand; both sides are unable to.

I’m more concerned with the untriggered ones, namely:
US - South Korea - North Korea - China - Russia
US - Japan - East China Sea - China
US - Taiwan - China
US - Philippine - South China Sea - China

These involve the head to head conflict between the two superpowers that had enough economies to support full scale clashes.

But most of them are only distractions. China’s only goal is Taiwan, for which amphibian attack is required. The bottleneck is China’s warship building, which has its own pace.

So far it’s not prepared yet, although weird things could happen.

MountAye. Criticising people who voted for Trump seems fair enough. Maybe “the people”, whoever they are thought to be, should begin to educate themselves and take responsibility. Citizens have duties as well as rights.

I have huge sympathy for Taiwan - good luck to them, poor devils.

We have averted our gaze from Ukraine to concentrate on the US election, and nobody anywhere is going to step in and stop Israel from pulverising Gaza, are they?

The idea of a world war, heavily promoted on this board these past days, doesn’t ring true for me. Who wants one?

This is exactly my sentiment. I'm a Poli Sci grad student, and I'm both doubly horrified, as a US citizen and as a...well, student. Personal responsibility has to be factored in at some point, and we're already seeing racial text messages sent around, as well as "Your body, my choice" tweets. Granted, these are from the loudest of the loud, but it wouldn't be hard to see these early examples as a predictor of where we're going. Almost like Trump supporters didn't really believe it was about the economy or any actual issue; It was just simply about trying to demonize and abuse other groups.

If you really have a problem with the government, replace it. Citizens who complain without action have failed in their "duties" and are directly responsible for the current state of the country.

I don't understand your argument here, are you against free speech? Sure they are saying unkind things but that is their right, I may not agree with Nazism but Neo-Nazis have just as much right to say what they want as any activists, I just won't stand there and listen. Saying all Trump supporters want to demonize and abuse other groups is akin to saying all Muslims are terrorists, but you have every right to express such an opinion. The State of Telgan

What a wee turn we have.

In conclusion...

WWWIII is a highly unlikely scenario, however *could* happen. The threat of war between USA and China is such a remote possibility at this time, I would be shocked that this would or could actually happen. China has absolutely no ambitions for a global conflict, and vice versa for the USA. The likely scenario is a trade tariff war which will slow economic growth and create a global recession to possible depression, which, of course, makes conflict more likely... hmmm. Anyway, I don't have this one on radar, so we, with a degree of confidence, say, "naw gonna happen, mate."

As for those who voted for Trump, the current analysis is that he probably lucked out due to the economy. Although there is growth, etc. Sadly, this isn't always being *felt* by the majority of the people. As usual, Trump has presented his simple idiotic vision, which in today's quick fire round market of 30-second clip videos has caught the attention of the marketplace of voters... most other things be damned.

Trump is an awful man and a terrible president. Some think it didn't matter. Well, okay... I read today officals we're planning on their contigent if he demanded the use of military force on domestic soil and other such illegal acts. Do I think he'll be as shambolic as last time? Probs. Few government shut downs in the latter of his cycle after the mid term... can cope, surely.

Sadly, we have a present-elect who has nothing else to lose. 1. He will impose likely tariffs; 2. he will deport, or try and deport, as many people as he can, 3. .. we can continue. However, he is not a war president. He is too chaotic, too ineffectual, too indecisive, ... to muster anything that he says he will do. The best we can hope for those some rhetoric on policy and there to be deadlocks elsewhere. The future is in the making now to who will succeed him. He has 2 years of office where he can begin the damage, and that is linited to his powers, after that, I can see there being full throttle reverse when the public at large realise he wasn't the economic God for working class America he promised. For that to actually happen, the so-called extreme left would need to win, the likes of the fairly centrist Bernie Sanders in most other places bar US.

But as IK hints at, that's for the next election cycles. This can only be hoped to bring about another type of "consensus" for a generation. It's all up for grabs if that's the winning narrative. And there's no reason to believe that can not happen. People are ready for change, but sadly, they've resold the same BS, and it's wrapped up in hideous red Trump hat stating, "[m]ake America great, again." Bar the sloppy slogans, the symbol speaks to the struggles of the ordinary working class. Sadly, the democratic Party just couldn't see itself this time to the middle of America that should have been a natural bedfellow.

Anyway, I'm sure he is a prime candidate for stroke or heart attack, and his risk factors go up daily. So ye never know. There's time!

Have a good weekend, everyone. I'm logging off until my assessment is done. This working full time and trying to balance other post-grad work full time is a killer.

You just went off the guardrails and into the forest. Neo Atlas Paradise was stating that those who excused themselves for voting for Trump were finding a reason not to be outed in public. This isn't a conversation of first amendment rights, but the conversion of tribalism overtaking the culture, one that promotes fear and hate mongering. People have already sent anti-black and anti-woman messages anonymously on phones and social media. There's a difference between being given the liberty to speak on a public forum from sending an hate message on someone's phone, which is, harassment, therefore consequences should be met.

Those who get excited for war are the easiest fodder.
