I assumed this region was mainly capitalist based on the name.

We've got a few... economic weirdos among us, but mostly good ol' capitalists here.

While conservatism today is associated more with free markets doesn't mean conservatives are always for a 100% free market. For example I support government incentives for nuclear families.

I'm a Conservative but I still support Universal healthcare in the form of Medicare.

Medicare and the public hospital system provide free or low-cost access for all Australians. Including medical services public hospitals and medicines. As well as the
The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme which Hiliary Clinton liked so much, she came here to study it and report back.

With PBS You only pay some of the cost of most PBS medicines if you are enrolled in Medicare. The Australian Government pays the rest. You pay even less if you have a concession card.
This saves people thousands of dollars per year. No one should go bankrupt paying for their healthcare.

As well as allowing Private health insurance which gives you choice outside the public system. For private health care both in and out of hospital, you contribute towards the cost of your health care.

I also advocate welfare for those unable to work die to illness, age, etc. And to assist those who have lost their jobs and need assistance until they find new employment.
I also support a living wage, believing someone who has to heavily rely on tips is demeaning and a constant struggle.

TL;DR: Conservatism means different things in different places and to different people

seriously though I'm ok with people unable to work receiving welfare, it's the people who are able but unwilling to work that are an issue

Hence why I gave examples. Welfare for those who need it. As opposed to what we can in Australia call "dole bludgers"

In a quote from the British Conservative Party Chairman, Quintin Hogg, in 1959: "Conservatism is not so much a philosophy as an attitude, a constant force, performing a timeless function in the development of a free society, and corresponding to a deep and permanent requirement of human nature itself."
As he says, it's not a philosophy per se, rather, an attitude. It's not really a philosophy simply because by the definition of *social* Conservatism*, it can't really be. Unlike most ideologies, it differs from place-to-place, so a one-size-fits-all philosophy wouldn't really work.

*Protecting tradition and upholding traditional values etc.

The best example of not capitalist conservatism are Juan Domingo Perón and Otto Von Bismarck

"Conservatism, says Scruton, is neither automatic hostility toward the state nor the desire to limit the state's obligations toward the citizen.

Rather, conservatism regards the individual not as the premise but the conclusion of politics, a politics that is fundamentally opposed to the ethic of social justice, to equality of station, income, and achievement, or to the attempt to bring major institutions of society (such as schools and universities) under government control.

The conservative outlook, says Scruton, is neither outmoded nor irrational. On the contrary, it is the most reasonable of political alternatives. The evils of socialism, he maintains, lie precisely where its supporters find its strengths, and the conditions for the credibility of socialism have long since disappeared. Neither socialism nor liberalism can come to terms with the real complexity of human society, and both appear plausible only because they direct attention away from what is actual, toward what is merely ideal."

*Screams in distance*

Hilaire Belloc and G. K. Chesterton, while themselves being what I call "traditionalist liberals", they are pretty much appealing to conservatives as well.

Pope Leo XIII, Metternich, C. H. Douglas, and Salazar also wanted to find an alternative to capitalism and socialism.
