What a shame that Russia is missing the imperfect but unmissable Paris 2024: say what you want about the stand-off between Eurosport and free-to-air television… but in Russia there's no live coverage or highlights of the games, and viewers have to settle for propagandists constantly whining about even the smallest flaw in the Olympics over cherry-picked and pirated footage, including the weather (cloud seeding is used to cause rain over certain areas, not stop them).

How embarrassing is it to be invaded by the country you're invading?
Many aggressors eventually suffer this exact fate -- just ask Hitler. He invaded Ukraine and many other countries in 1941, and by the end of 1944, 40% of the Red Army were Ukrainians, indeed it was a Ukrainian formation that captured Berlin in April 1945.
People try to use the soviet union in WWII as a historical analogy to russia in the current war, however that is deeply flawed. Who won WWII on the eastern front? An army consisting of millions of Ukrainians, who were using vast quantities of American equipment provided through lend-lease.
But this is another reason why it's so important for western support for Ukraine to continue. If somehow putin were able to subjugate the country, he'd have at his disposal millions of Ukrainian men to pressgang into service for his further imperial conquests further west, which means NATO countries. And he'd have even less regard sacrificing these soldiers for even the most minimal territorial gain. One genocide begets the next.
As of today 600,000 russian soldiers have been eliminated. But think about how many among that number were non-ethnic russians from the numerous "republics" that constitute the vast, evil prison of nations that is the so-called russian federation. Again, one genocide begets the next.
