CAPTAIN ON DECK!

A group of sailors clicks their heels to attention, their faces sit emotionless and blank, eyes darting forward. A stern faced officer paces in front of them, hands interlocked behind his back. He makes a quick turn to face the sailors, looking each man in the eyes. He says nothing, turning and walking inside. The sailors remain in formation, the ocean wind flapping against their collars.

These sailors are travelling as part of the Imperial C Fleet, en-route to the Strait of Vastar. The purpose of the fleet is tightly secured, though it travels as part of a 4 fleet armada.

Inside the control room of the Command Ship Darwin, the vessels captain sat at the end of a long oak wood table, his hands laid flat on the surface. A taller man in a black naval uniform stood at the opposite end, tapping a screen, discussing the role of each fleet. He's interrupted halfway by a man in his mid-40s, black hair, thin build.

"What point then is there in sending 4 fleets? We needn't split the forces too thin, and what of our holdings in Kianhua?"

The man nods, motioning his hands.

"Kianhua is being dealt with, the Kianese are dealing with Kurikian forces in the area, we have little reason to worry, the overseas defence force is setting up a strike fleet to deal with any threat. As for the fleets in Vastar, they'll be split up eventually, their role is to neutralize the Kurikian main fleet, they're already spread thin, they'll make for fairly easy pickings."

"And you know this for sure?"

"Yes commander, with certainty."

"It's settled then. You have the clearance, Task Groups 1 through 4 will move north, work alongside the Osterian fleet, do what you have to do."

The table stands, nodding and muttering in agreement. A few shake hands, dispersing into the ships main hallway outside.

The Merlovichan Fleets 1 through 4 are sent north, sailing to meet with the Osterian fleet at 0600 hours. The armada consists of as follows:

2 Carriers
14 Destroyers
2 Battlecruisers
15 Missile Cruisers
15 Frigates
12 Corvettes
12 Nuclear Submarines
13 Standard Submarines
2 Replenishment Ships
24 Auxiliary Landing Ships
1 Hospital Ship

OOC: I'll sort out the naval aspects in more details later, this is just a simple outline of everything for now. The fleet is currently off the coast of Danelaw, moving north. Another post will follow in about an hour or so, whenever I get to it next class.

- Please note only allies know of the fleets plans, and even then not the full picture, so avoid metagaming.

Martis sits and prepares himself to throw questions at his host. First, however, introductions were in order. "I am Martis, as you seem to know, of clan Avēlsk. Vőlatsk in the realm of the Grand Ataman is my birth-home, and Grand Ataman Iŕsőtsk Pârkóv is my Lord. I am a priest of Ădŕmrětsk, that is Ademar, by trade and learning, and I thank you for your hospitality." Martis awaits a response and, recalling Asp's earlier advice, bows his head a little before looking up.

"Wonderful, this way." Letwin leads him into a small meeting room and closes the door. "Pick a chair. Are you hungry? Thirsty? I can call for refreshments. -But first!" His eyes shine with eagerness. "First I have to know what circumstances brought you here. It's unprecedented for your people to visit mine, and vice versa, and there wasn't any sign of that changing . . . yet here you are. Why?"

"I am surprised you are this excited, and I have many questions of my own, but as I am the guest I will oblige first. I am here by the direct order of the Grand Ataman, to learn what I can of the Brethren." Martis had occasionally engaged in theological discussions with foreign merchants coming to Vőlatsk, and they had gotten... Heated, to say the least. Now probably isn't the time to mention that he's here to test for heresy. "The Grand Ataman wishes to learn of your people and their fabled powers of the wind and sky. I also have some things I wish to learn, not the least of which is how you know of my people and home, of which I am told you know much."

"As for us learning of you, merchant caravans sometimes bring with them news of the world beyond the Steppe, and recently they have begun speaking of the Brethren more often. Martis brings his palm to his face and mutters under his breath in near-silent Pakatska. "Forgive me, but I forgot my foremost question. I of course do not wish to intrude, but I shall be eternally grateful if you had some space I could inhabit for about a month, and advice to give as to the provision of food and drink in this city."

The South Eastern front

When the enemy troops were retreating, The Kianese forces spared no time.

Such was the strategy of Maj. Gen. Chae-won Min of the 21st Kianese Army Division (Division 3rd 5), a middle-aged woman who has been in the army ever since the Kian Khe still existed. A military academy graduate and decorated for her service. Now, she would be heading the offensive into the Kianistan region. And unlike most Generals, she stays in the middle just behind the frontlines and just in front of the rear guard. Now, she's in a mobile command room 15 km north of the front.

Maj. Gen. Min: Colonel Yun, sitrep.
Colonel Yun: I can confirm the Air force aerials. They are indeed retreating. We're going to take the roads in order to cross the borders, mine-clearing teams can come later.
Maj. Gen. Min: Alright, get your troops moving and make sure you have a contact with Airforce CAS. It is important that you stay in areas with air superiority.
Colonel Yun: Yes, ma'am. ends transmission
Maj. Gen. Min: nudges communications officer Corporal, patch me to Admiral Yeom.
Communication officer: Yes ma'am. begins contact with the Admiral
Admiral Yeom: Good morning, General.
Maj. Gen. Min: Good morning. Admiral, what's the situation there? My troops are about to push inland. Is the coast clear?
Admiral Yeom: General, we barraged the coordinates of every fortification visible to the satellites, but we don't have visual confirmation on our part. The Airforce may have provided that already. We have the attention of the ships that are within 89 kilometers in range from us so considering we are 58 km from the coast, there should be no ships performing artillery barrages or missile strikes on your troops.
Maj. Gen. Min: Thank you, Admiral.
Admiral Yeom: Likewise, General.

Maj. Gen. Min puts her combat helmet on as she leaves the office. As she left, she saw troops marching down the road to get on their platoon's vehicles. As she looked further to the left, those vehicles went on the highway. She walked forward where she could see the beach and the sea. Needing a short break, she decided to take a short walk along the beach. as she walked there, she was occasionally stopped by ambulances racing through the road onto the highway, presumably to return to their platoon who sent them here to get some of their buddies patched up. After her short period of relaxation, she decided to head back to the command area. Sometimes, a very short moment to relax was better than no time at all. She then received a transmission from one of her brigade commanders, Brig. Gen. Do.

Brig. Gen. Do: General Min, do you read?
Maj. Gen. Min: Affirmative, General Do. What's your status?
Brig. Gen. Do: I've just arrived at the Southern section of the Super expressway project. We have the site secure and a strong supply tunnel that can get the supplies at the other side to the mountainous valley. Also, Brig. Gen Im along with the 25th Division from the 4th Army has taken the Panhandle and pushed the enemies back to the mountains. What do we do now?
Maj. Gen. Min: Make sure to secure the surrounding areas. The construction site and any land near it is your alamo. I'll get some troops over there as fast as I can. If you can, take over a nearby airbase for the airforce to land.
Brig. Gen. Do: Yes, Maj. Gen. Over and out. transmission ended

The Eastern Front

Advance at the sea

Admiral Yeom and his captains continue the naval combat, targetting Kurikian ships as he advances through the coast with 3 other flotillas behind him, spread out in a circle 20 km wide. The destroyers, missile cruisers, and battlecruisers were in the vanguard. At the flanks, frigates guarded by destroyers were also protected by multi-role frigates. At the center/rear, the command ship of Yeom's fleet and 2 Escort Carriers were placed in a formation with battlecruisers as the rear guard. This formation would be strictly enforced when no enemies were detected in a radius of 88 km. When enemies were in fact detected, Admiral Yeom and the rest of his fleet's staff decide what to do. Because of the curvature of the surface of Valsora blocking their visibility to targets 70 km away, Airforce craft are sent to perform reconnaissance.

Currently, Admiral Yeom and his fleet are crossing the border between Kianistan and Xi-chang, entering Kianese enemy waters. The Admiral sends out an Airforce flight to check the area.

At the Air
Naegi Airbase, 50km from the border

Flight Lieutenant Moon and his fellow airmen/airwomen scramble from the base to the hangars. They had just received a call for CAS from one of the companies at the other side of the border. The ground crew prepped the planes as the pilots climbed on. In a few minutes, Lieutenant Moon's flight of 3 attack jets, 2 gunships, and 1 light bomber soars through the clouds. After several minutes, they reach their target location; the area around the superexpressway project. The gunships slow down and descend to 3,000 feet. The attack jets fly around the area to search for other targets. Then, they dive down onto the targets, shooting their missiles and their 50mm machine guns before pulling out of the dive. The bomber, requested by the company's captain to destroy enemy armor fortifications and artillery, drops the payload on the targets while they are busy trying to destroy the attack jets. The gunships stay within the troop lines, taking out enemies and damaging fortifications when visible.

On the ground

Captain Yu and his Bravo company of 250 men are currently fighting against enemy artillery and fortifications just 3 km away from the expressway project site. Captain Yu and his company are part of Brig. Gen. Do's brigade, which is being tasked with linking the two parts of the Eastern front together by moving Northeast. Within 3 hours of their encounter with the fortifications, he has lost 10 men, and had 14 wounded, along with 1 destroyed MBT. He called for CAS and tried to move up. CAS was successful in weakening the fortifications, but advancing towards them was still horrendous.

Then, enemy fire just stopped. The CAS Flight that was still in the area reported to the captain that the enemy was retreating. He then also received an oddly timed message from Brig. Gen. Do.

"Enemy resistance is collapsing, we're being tasked with reaching the capital."

The President walks onto the Press Con Hall podium, and waits for the once again full hall to quiet down.

President Kuang: Ladies, gentlemen, I have great news from the frontlines of the war. In the words of Maj. Gen. Chae-won Min of the 21st Army Division, airforce reconnaissance and recent encounters has proven that all enemy resistance has collapsed and are in full retreat. Weakened and most probably demoralized, the Kurikian force appear to be withdrawing from Kianistan. These words from the General mean only one thing. We have won over what I declare now as the Yagsogtang Region*.

The hall cheers and applauses ring as celebrations spread across the country/.

The Ministry of Culture, in the name of self-improvement and generally being the best Ministry in the history of TEP (don't @ me, ESA), has now opened a Suggestions and Questions Thread. As of this moment, the anonymous Google Form option is offline, so do not try using the link, but we will have that option open in the near future.

Dispatch Version:

The Ministry of Culture is not perfect (shocking, I know), and we need your help to make it that way. So, if you have any questions, suggestions, comments, concerns, reviews, critique, or anything that could possibly help the Ministry of Culture in any way, here's how you do it:

LinkQuestions and Suggestions Thread

Telegramming Aivintis on NationStates

LinkSending Mangegneithe a Personal Message on the forums

LinkDirect messaging @Tyrant#2163 on Discord (You can find me in this discord server)

LinkSubmitting through this anonymous Google Form (coming soon)

Why do we have five different options? Simple. Each option offers a different platform you may use. This means that suggestions, comments, questions, etc. can be submitted in forms accessible to 99.9% of the people wishing to do so. Some options can additionally offer privacy, and one can offer complete anonymity.

So what are you waiting for? Help make TEP a better place, by helping the Best Ministry become even better.

Dispatch Version:

Ministry of Culture
Regional Poll Suggestion Thread

One of the main parts of the Ministry of Culture's duties gameside is to provide polls for the engagement and general enjoyment of the residency. While coming up with polls seems simple enough, it can actually be difficult to think of ideas. That's where you come in.

How to Submit

To submit your poll, you can post in the LinkSuggest-a-Poll 2.0 forum thread, you can send a telegram gameside to the nation "Aivintis", or you can direct message me on the forums (username "Mangegneithe") or on discord (username "Tyrant#2163"). You don't have to use it, but there is a simple preset to fill in for a standard poll suggestion, included at the end of this post.

Standard Polls

Whether it is about NationStates, Real Life, or anything in between, as long as your poll is appropriate and creative, there is a good chance it will be featured. With all due credit, of course.

You can go into as much detail for your poll as you want. It can be just a simple suggestion for a topic we could cover in a poll, or it could be a full poll with a title, a description, and 12 pre-set answer choices to choose from. We will handle the rest.

Standard Poll Submission Rules

You may not submit a poll with more than 12 answer choices.

You may not submit a poll with binary answer choices. These are questions with simple yes/no, true/false, 0/1 answers.

If the poll is about a category with more than 12 possible answers, please try to pick the 11 most likely answers and add an "Other" option so people can talk about their answer in the RMB.

Try to keep the answer choices short and simple. No paragraphs of information or incredibly complex choices. We want to engage the community, not bore them half to death. It is a good idea to keep the length of the answer proportional to how captivating the choice is. Keep it in the goldilocks zone of short and boring ----> long and crazy.

Choose Your Own Adventure Polls

Choose Your Own Adventure Polls are an NS event that uses the regional poll function to engage the whole region in a Choose Your Own Adventure story, a type of interactive storytelling where each decision progresses the story in a new and unique way. You can use the Suggest-a-Poll function to submit your own ideas for CYOA storylines.

This is done using the standard methods of submission, but with altered guidelines. There can not be any "Other" options, the poll options must go into sufficient detail, potentially at the cost of brevity, and while the answer choice limit is the same, we recommend no more than five options. Descriptions on these are mandatory, and should explain what kind of situation the person is in. Sometimes, the poll may be altered by the Ministry to better fit the CYOA format. The preset may be used for this too.

A monastery? Oh, a temple. No, he'd probably get kicked out in a day. "If you do not mind, I would prefer to stay here in the University. It is so beautiful!" Martis takes a look around the meeting room and takes it all in before turning back to Letwin.

"We try not to pry too much into the caravans' business, but we do know that those that mentioned the Brethren did not actually come here; they always say they heard the tales from the sailors who ferry them across the great waters, or sometimes they see great waves off in the distance in the direction the sailors associate with the Brethren and conclude that they are related. As for the caravans themselves, they are a very diverse bunch, but in the temple we have others go out and haggle with them. Sending one of the priests, such as myself, usually results in great furor and occasionally a declaration that the caravan will cease trade with the city immediately -- which, of course, is forgotten come the next market day. But they, for the most part, do not follow the word of Ademar, which tends not to sit well with us."

"If I may ask, I saw on the mural outside a pair of warriors holding back a tide of abominations, and when I asked, Asp said they were 'great powers' and that one of their names was 'Tarkel,' or rather that is how I can pronounce it. The standing warrior, wielding his blade with great skill. What are these great powers? That has become one of the foremost questions in my mind after seeing that exquisite painting."
