Empire of Dogetopia wrote:

Unfortunately, at the moment, Huggleton was undergoing his transformation into an Edgebat as the fight went on, and he was no longer using his magic to stabilize Linryel. Linryel, as a result, was also undergoing a transformation. She stumbled out of the strider and shrieked as she started to shift into her battle form, as a result of the mental duress she was under. Linryel started to writhe; her size changed exponentially and she started growing more arms that ripped out from her sides, her horns grew even bigger. Huggleton too, was undergoing a transformation. His hair started turning back, and his light-based attacks were starting to become weaker.

Nonetheless, evil waited for nobody, and Chronohare charged towards Ivinirax. The evil rabbit had decided that now was the time for him to strike; he believed that Biikla and Ivinirax could no longer hurt him. He was walking slowly towards them, as villains tended to do to build tension when they wanted to be especially evil. Whenever anyone tried to attack him though, he would dodge.

Meanwhile, the fight between Cheshire and Huggleton was a beautiful sight, although terrifying. Cheshire was summoning balls of “spatial magic” that destroyed anything they came into contact with; quite literally “deleting” any matter it touched, like what happened with Huggleton’s arm. Huggleton was flying around quickly, using his light-magic while he still could, scoring hits on the eldritch cat abomination, although the cat was tanking it.

Then, Dora, Cephalina, and Nyah-Chan arrived. Nyah-Chan arrived first, and used her neko-Nyah love whip to latch onto Huggleton, as she intended to use her magic to brainwash him into staying his current self instead of turning evil. She yanked him out of the way of the battle and started applying as much magic as she could, making Huggleton groggy.

Dora assumed that Nyah-Chan was backstabbing them-she didn’t know much about Cuddlebats and didn’t know that because Huggleton broke his oath, he’d become corrupted-but she didn’t have time to address that particular situation, because she was taking over the battle against Cheshire. When the cat used her spatial magic, Dora’s ki enhancement helped her stay out of the spatial Magic’s range just enough to survive.

Cephalina arrived on the scene next, panting. She stared at the scene-Linryel was going mad and shifting into some horrible form, both Biikla and Ivinirax were putting up an admirable fight against Chronohare, Nyah-Chan appeared to be attacking her own teammate, and Dora was fighting Cheshire. Cephalina decided to approach Nyah-Chan, who looked up.

“Captain Bram, Cephalina. Huggleton broke his oath to the God he serves and corruption entered his heart. He’s already started his transformation into a monster…I’m hoping to use my magic to charm him into thinking he’s still…his old self. It might work until we find a more permanent solution.”

As soon as Speaker Six conducted his ritual, Wyvern-class ships appeared from a spatial rift above the city, along with a massive dragon roughly the size of a mountain that followed them from wherever they’d entered in from. To make matters worse, an entire ocean began to flood in from the pocket dimension they came from.

Chaos Cat felt the tug of the monster that wanted to devour his mana and felt an instinctive need to flee, however, he saw the ocean-sized flood above him and felt a knee-jerk reaction to help instead of teleporting away. But, could he really stop an entire ocean from flooding in with his magic when this universe weakened him so much? He put the thought out of his head and summoned his greatest feat of magical power yet-a massive forcefield that blocked the ocean water from entering the city, causing it to flood the rest of the area of the pocket dimension instead. The shield acted like a bubble, protecting the city, but now they were entirely underwater.

Chaos Cat fainted from the effort, giving Thirzoruth a clear shot at killing his rival. Fortunately for him, Thirzoruth teleported away the second that he felt the tug on his mana.

Now, Heh trembled, as did Stella, still in the cockpit with Klee, as they felt something tugging at their mana. Stella looked around, noticing that they’d submerged the entire area in water, and that there was a shield below, protecting a city from the water. She narrowed her eyes.

“What’s going on down there?”

The dragon who had followed them in had decided to flee for the moment. It didn’t really want to be stuck in whatever situation was going on at the moment-it looked far too difficult for her to handle. And she was rather lazy.

Heh, meanwhile, was feeling terrified from the pull on his mana, and almost disrupted his magic, just barely avoiding doing so. He collapsed to his knees, and stared down at the ground, regaining his composure slowly. Splthir gazed outside and turned to Speaker Six.

“Thirzoruth left, but what he left to go do, I’m not sure. It can’t be anything good though. Also, evacuation might be impossible…we’re currently underwater. Think…Atlantis.”

Bram nodded grimly at Nyah-chan.

"Do whatever it takes to save that cuddlebat" he ordered, then stepped out of the rover. He turned back to the group for a moment "Dora, Cephalina. Help Nyah-chan and Huggleton deal with that cat. I'll save Nax and Biikla"

Ivirinax saw Linryel's mutated form plunge from the stryder above. The mining beam would not be activating. Still, they had to keep up the pressure on Chronohare. To do otherwise would be to hand the battle over to him. With his suit's four arms, he began hurling rocks at the approaching enemy. They were much slower than his cutting beams, and were no problem for Chronohare to dodge with his time manipulation. To make matters worse, Biikla's weapon appeared to be having an issue, Ivirinax heard here curse under her breath as her weapon stopped firing. It was likely overheating, similar to what had knocked Ivirinax's cutting beams out temporarily. The Elgan kept hurling rocks, though he knew it was futile. The malicious rabbit, evading his every attack inched closer and closer....

Suddenly Ivirinax detected four small objects being flung at him. Reaching out with his four arms, he caught them. They were Aarlan stun grenades.

"Try those instead" came a voice from behind Chronohare. It was Captain Bram. While Chronohare had been taunting Ivirinax, Bram and Biikla had created half of a ring around the evil rabbit consisting of stun grenades. They appeared to be set to proximity mode, as the two of them were standing well back and there was a red flashing light marking the position of each grenade.

Ivirinax wasted no time in completing the ring that his comrades had started, tossing the last four grenades so that they landed and stuck to surfaces equidistant from each-other, and the other grenades. Chronohare was closed in. There was no way of getting out of the ring without triggering at least one of the grenades and being electrocuted with enough force to knock out an entire squadron of soldiers.

Bram pulled his new weapons out of their holsters, a pair of replacement pistols of a similar make to the one that the Eldritch Queen had broken.

"Try me. I dare you." he said, aiming both weapons directly at Chronohare.

Biikla saw the state that Linryel was in and started towards her, but then hesitated, looking to Bram. Without taking his eyes off of Chronohare, he gave a nod in her general direction. She took off towards where Linryel had landed.

"Linryel! Linryel! Its okay. Your mother is here!" she said running towards the twisting form of the demon-esque child.

Klee was realizing, mournfully that this was turning out just as the poaching war had, decades before. She hadn't been born yet, but she had learned from her mother what the cost of victory had been for the fledgling Empire of Aarla. Massive civilian casualties on the other side. Back then, they had crushed the enemy war machine with stealth bombing runs on the factories of Nexika Corporation, which had been supplying ships and weapons to their enemies. She had though that this would simply be an attack run on an enemy capital ship. This was looking more and more like her history lessons back on Haven brought to life by the minute. She felt a deep sorrow looking at the devastation around them. Her mother had taught her of the raids on the Kosp city of Irzen'ka in hopes that as her successor, she would prevent this from ever being necessary again.

"Mother.... I'm sorry" said Klee.

"Commander, we need to focus" said Maleek.

Another voice then came through the comms.

"Aarlan vessels, this is Speaker Six. While I am glad to see you, your arrival has complicated an attempted evacuation of civilians from this city. Given the temporary retreat of the enemy. I believe we should take the opportunity to complete the evacuation of the nearby hospital. The structure is only being held together with Heh's power, so please hurry"

Klee snapped back to reality. This was different from the battle her mother taught her about. They hadn't targeted these civilians. Thirzoruth was the one who had brought them into harm's way, and they would do everything in their power to save as many as they could.

"You heard the Speaker!" she shouted to the fleet. Lets get down there and get those civies out of there!"

The five saucer shaped craft proceeded to land by the hospital. Out of these poured human men and women, as well as cimex workers and soldiers, all wearing black Aarlan combat suits. Into the hospital they went.

The building of distressed patients and staff was filled with words of comfort from the black clad soldiers like:

"You're safe now"

"We're here to help"

and from one cheeky human soldier who just couldn't resist:

"come with me if you want to live"

Unstable parts of the hospital were re-inforced with the sturdy wax secreted by the cimex workers, and within minutes the hospital was emptied. Critical patients were placed in the Wyvern's medical bays.

Speaker Six arrived in front of the hospital, right next to where the starship Yeti was landed.

"Apologies for running off so suddenly. Thank you for tending to the patients" it said to Splthir. Speaker suspected that its actions had made its new friend worry.

"You guys better all get in here quick!" shouted Klee "If what you said about this section of the city is true, then it could go up any minute!"

Speaker was about to take Splthir by the hand and enter the Yeti again, when it remembered something.

"Chaos cat!"

It took off towards where the mighty cat mage had fallen, lifting up his unconscious body. The Wyverns were already taking off, but the Yeti kept its cargo elevator extended as it drifted gently over to where Splthir, Speaker Six and Chaos cat were.

Nyah-Chan ran to the battle between Huggleton and Cheshire. She could see that Huggleton’s light manifestation magic was beginning to flicker out, signaling that the corruption was about to take over his mind. Cheshire, being a cat, could sense Nyah-Chan and knew that she was coming. He glanced over at her confusedly-he hadn’t requested backup, but he was sure that a neko wouldn’t be on the side of the good guys due to their reputation.

When Nyah-Chan manifested her neko-Nyah love whip and lassoed Huggleton, Cheshire just took it for granted that she was attacking him, not helping him, and he focused his attention on Dora and Cephalina instead. He teleported next to Cephalina and attempted to attack with his spatial erasure move, but Dora was using her ki to enhance her reflexes, and pulled Cephalina out of the way of the attack; in retaliation, Cephalina attacked Cheshire with acidic bubbles, which caused him to stagger. Cheshire glanced over at Linryel and grimaced, then he teleported away, throwing the fight.

Nyah-Chan was now busy using her magic to brainwash Huggleton, nor for evil purposes, but in order to keep the corruption that had entered his heart from entering his brain. Indeed, Huggleton had already been corrupted, but she could force him to act as if he wasn’t-he would be a practitioner of dark magic, but would use it for noble purposes. Nyah-Chan wasn’t especially attached to him, so she considered this good enough. However, she knew that Dora and Cephalina and the others would only think of this as a temporary fix.

Meanwhile, Chronohare was still evading all attacks from Biikla and Ivinirax, his evil grin becoming more smug by the second as he inched closer. He wanted to make them suffer, force them to wait just a bit longer as he got closer and closer.

However, his complacency got him trapped in a ring of stun grenades. The evil hare grimaced, and looked up at Captain Bram and Ivinirax with distaste, holding up his watch.

“Foolish scum, this will be easy to overcome. I will simply stop time on these devices, then step out-“

However, upon using his watch, it shattered, causing him to trip and fall on the stun grenades. They electrocuted him to death instantaneously-he was a powerful mage, but there was nothing unique about his physiology that would prevent the electricity from killing him.

With that, the battle was pretty much won-but at a cost. At the moment, it was unknown what had happened to the soldiers with them in the Strider, or whether either Linryel or Huggleton would be ok. Huggleton was groaning, meekly struggling unconsciously against Nyah-Chan.

Linryel, on the other hand, was not going to be consoled so easily. She staggered up onto her feet, her face contorting in agony. By now, she was roughly twelve feet tall, with four arms. New eye sockets were growing in her face, which was causing her great pain, and her wings were elongating, her tail becoming more spear-like. Her red skin was boiling hot, with steam rising from it.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! M-Momma! Help! It really hurts!”

And then Thirzoruth teleported nearby, roughly the size of a five story building, he towered over the (relatively) victorious team of Aarlans and Reality One denizens. Dora and Cephalina immediately went on the offensive, charging him down, but he swept them aside with great contempt, knocking them down. The Draconic abomination turned his sights towards Linryel, who was still thrashing in great agony, amplified by Thirzoruth’s corrupted presence. Huggleton also screamed, as Thirzoruth’s evil was so potent that just being near it was causing the corruption in his body to skyrocket. Nyah-Chan was struggling to pull together…

(I’ll do this, then finish the arc in the next post with the fight between Thirzoruth and Linryel. I’m assuming Heh, Stella, Splthir, Chaos Cat, Speaker Six, and Klee managed to get everyone to safety.

Also, Alice the doll, Cheshire, and that huge dragon all escaped just in case I want to use them later for something, as of right now)

New Rigelian Empire wrote:General Aqua nervously blew into his magical pipe, tailing directly behind Lairdigan. He’d been hoping this whole time that the conflict would take place somewhere where he could make use of his water elemental abilities, but instead, in this dark tunnel system, it looked like he’d need to stick with shapeshifting, illusion magic, and brute physical strength-usually more than enough to get the job done, but in this instance, he was uneasy. He puffed, blowing smoke rings shaped like guns into the air. Lairdigan, meanwhile, was taking the most direct path to Despaq, sniffing her out.

Soon, they reached the location where the sewer team had lost contact. Unsurprisingly, most of them were dead, but Lairdigan wasn’t quite sure how. They seemed to be somehow fused to the sewer wall. Lairdigan reached out with his vines, snagging several of the still living members of the team out and yanking them to evident safety. He turned to them.

“What happened?”

General Aqua, meanwhile, used his water magic to slice through the wall, freeing the dead soldiers who’d been fused to it, and he waded through the filthy water to grab their bodies. Although he was a high-ranking military official, he didn’t care about getting his paws dirty. Then, he noticed the wall was bleeding where he cut through it, and he doubled back, avoiding a strike as the wall itself manifested tentacles and attacked. He gritted his teeth.

“What the hell? This wasn’t in her profile! She must have some evil wizards making abominations down here to protect her!”

The sewer team had barely stood a chance against Despaq and her minions. These guys weren’t even trained in combat; they were just sanitation workers who had been sent down here to inspect a damaged part of the tunnel. One of them, blood seeping through his fluorescent construction vest, coughs weakly, hanging on to Lairdigan with a dazed look in his eyes.

“I…we…we didn’t s-see them coming…they just-“

The pelican’s breathing stops, and his body goes limp in Lairdigan’s arms.

Suddenly, the sounds of gunfire and shouting can be heard from the rear. An explosion shakes the tunnel, then another. Then, the radio crackles to life. It’s Colonel Yuri.

“Charlie-1 here, we’re being ambushed by these…vine thingies! They’ve got us from behind! We’re cornered, over! EY! THORSON, GET BACK-“

Another explosion rocks the tunnel, which quickly fills up with dust. Visibility is now almost getting to zero, and with the vines attacking from every direction, there was no escaping them...

The tentacles were being manifested by the very walls of the sewer that the team was currently in. Lairdigan and General Aqua both quickly realized that the sewer had become a living entity in and of itself-an excellent trap created to protect their enemy.

Lairdigan now understood Despaq’s strategy-she was not a front line fighter herself, so she gathered powerful cultists who would create traps and conditions to prevent enemies from even reaching her. Meanwhile, her passive ability would corrupt and rot the country from the inside out.

General Aqua summoned the water from the sewer all around them and manifested it as a massive shield, a wall of water in the form of a sphere surrounding him, Lairdigan, and whoever was nearby. The water was highly pressurized, so whenever a tentacle attacked, they would be sliced in half. He opened a section of the wall, and called out.

“Everyone, get into the safe zone! Then we can discuss our plans!”

He was faster than most helicopters out in the market, and more maneuverable as well, although he wasn’t quite as fast as this particular one. He stared at the thing with a hint of curiosity, then shook his head, turning to Chuck Horace.

“Shouldn’t we go and get the rest of our party before we leave the area? General Huinclyth’s and General Rosewater’s forces are still at the docks.”

General Novospace nodded slowly, looking back out where they came. Like Commander Hurricane, he didn’t really need to use a helicopter because he had such powerful spatial magic. It was easier for him to follow the helicopter by teleporting after it.

“Yes, I agree with my colleague. The way back to the troops should be cleared by now…Commander Hurricane and I took care of the cultists, and broke their magic circles on the way here. The people should be getting over the spell placed on them by now.”
