HBC: Parliament Passes Plastic Bag Ban
CAPITOL HILL- Parliament passed the Plastic Act of 2019. The act was signed into law by the Prime Minister. The Plastic Act bans all plastic bags in the commercial setting. Citing that plastic bags and products cause harm to the environment.
All 38.2 million people living in the city should be affected. They are all encouraged to use reusable bags or paper bags. Reusable bags and paper bags are already popular among the young and middle aged.
Even though the environment of the city has become cleaner plastic bags remain a issue. Over 1 million pounds of plastic waste was found in a canal in Hartfield. The canal was cleaned out and fish were reintroduced.
The University of Hartridge, Hartridge University and Mercer University all pushed for the ban citing recent studies. Students protested outside a plastic plant for days in Portland before the act was passed. They claimed victory this morning.
Critics of the act started their concerns. The majority stated that reusable and paper bags are more expensive than the usual free plastic bags. The Speaker of Parliament addressed their concerns stating that fighting climate change and environmental protection are a cost that's worth taking.
