As of Monday this week, the Dragonet Empire has news to bring to the world: A new monarch. Following the death of Empress Talka XVI, who passed in 1962, after reigning over the Dragonet Empire for nearly 37 years, and the current interim government, which is led by the the esteemed regent Vas Kul, an experienced statesman who was one of the leading figures in the late Talkian Era, and a widely supported figure when the regency, which always occurs in the interim of a new monarch, was established.

However, the seven year long regency was unprecedented. No regency in the history of the dragonet empire lasted as long, with the previous record was held by the regency of Lyras Ki, that lasted from August 6th of 1788 to the 23rd of September of 1791, which only lasted 3 years and 48 days. Now, however, it’s been far outstripped.

Pressing issues and the fears of meddling from Yingguo pushes the election of a new monarch further and further back, as the Cold War raged. And the public feared what would happen if a monarch turned out to simply be a puppet of the very state that made it a goal to destroy the dragonet civilization. But thankfully, those fears have come to pass.

The new monarch however, is the 23 year old Savko of House Zais, a new royal house that only was legitimized in 1941, after an older house went extinct in the late 30s.

Savko has been coronated following a lavish event, and saw the Sword of Light making a public appearance to legitimize the otherwise would be pretender, but it has come to pass, and the now Savko I of House Zais occupies the Jade Throne. Ending the regency of Vas Kul, which has lasted 7 years and 287 days.

But all is not perfect, as many of the older, more established royal houses, specifically the Houses of Van, Kiros, and Salak have protested the coronation, claiming that the house of Zais is not established enough to fulfill the role of a major house, especially the one they replaced, let alone become the ruling house of the Dragonet Empire.

Along with this, the young emperor has already explicitly stated that a lot of the dragonet policies and institutions would be up for review, and that the IF as a whole would be under his scrutiny, as he states that the reforms of Talka of Knatko have been left unfinished, and that modernization of the Imperial Federation and the Dragonet Empire itself still is in the sway of outdated traditions.

Most of his issues have been dealing with economics and social issues, but so far, he has vowed to further strengthen the Imperial Navy, and to match Yingguo in technology. But so far, most of his goals are still that, goals. And only time will tell if the new Emperor will be successful in his crusade to modernize the Empire and the Federation.
