Response for Supple's border break-in

The Supple paratroopers managed to break through the Komashi borders. But due to them being scattered, a number landed all across the Komashi border states. Some landed over neutral Azanami, some landed over hostile Sakura and hostile Vozlisch. Military radars on Sakura and Vozlisch immediately alerted all anti-air units. A Zaychik SAM outpost in Sakura, which were composed of S-455 missile systems, immediately fired upon the Supple military aircraft.

In neutral Azanami, the Azanami Armed Forces refused to engage the Supple forces. A few civilians even offered them free food and rations, some entertained the demoralized soldiers that were sent into the border. Grand Duchess Miki let them be, but warned that they must not cause chaos. Reaffirming the neutrality, Azanami Armed Forces assets also decided to shut off their military radars.

At Vozlisch, forward-located military radars quickly located and triangulated the incoming Supple aircraft. Lacking in the surface-to-air missile department, the nation's vintage 12.8 cm and 8.8 cm batteries opened fire on the paratroopers, being unable to shoot the planes flying higher than them. As Azura-Nishi had completed mobilisation, their forces began to move in through Vozlisch borders in preparation for the grand attack in COIC's defense line. As Azura-Nishi had a significantly sized air force, their fighter/interceptors interdicted and attacked the Supple aircraft after commencing their operations.

THE WAR ZONE
Confederation of Independent Colonies
March 30, 2020

ROZHESTVENSKY'S SAKURA-ZAYCHIK DIVISION
Northern Defense Line

After completely bombing the hell out of the Confederates' positions, the main body of his forces began to move in. Attrition fire, as Komashi military term goes, is a tactic by artillery divisions to support the frontline troops. Attrition fire involves the continuous shelling of enemy positions to allow them to quickly surrender to the frontline troops, and allowing more destruction of enemy assets.

"Sir, we are now advancing. Attrition fire in progress as well." One of Rozhestvensky's soldiers said.

"Khorosho. Our enemies are quite very tough. War does never change..." Rozhestvensky sighed. His main body continued to advance closer to the northern defense line. Attrition fire continued over and over. Missile barrages stopped, as Rozhestvensky told Vostok that he has switched to his second phase. The 1st Fleet then ceased and turned their attention to somewhere else...

KOMASHI FIRST FLEET
Off the coast of COIC

Commodore Larissa Vostok had just stopped firing upon the Northern Defense Line when they saw incoming missiles and Supple ships. Outnumbered, Vostok saw the incoming volley and knew her CIWS systems will not work at all.

"Commodore! We have incoming! Lots of them! Missiles! Enemy ships!" an officer said.

"Counter with artillery barrage. Fire all our anti-missile systems." Vostok ordered to her entire fleet.

The six Aizawa-class destroyers that served as escorts then countered, firing their CIWS. With no guided missiles and being conventional destroyers, they were of poor performance. Misfortune then struck the Komashi naval fleet when two Supple-launched missiles struck one of the destroyers, completely disabling it. The guided missile cruiser Natori then used her entire payload remaining, counter-firing at the incoming Supple fleet. Being outnumbered, Vostok ordered the retreat of the 1st Fleet. With one destroyer disabled and mortally damaged, it was time for them to leave.

"Quickly, before their missiles strike us!" Vostok ordered.

VON CALABRIA'S DIVISION
Southern Defense Line

Disorganized, von Calabria's vanguards were quickly making their way back to retreat. Just in time, the backline arrived. It was time for heavy armour engagement, as von Calabria and his tanks were very modern. They were of Azura-Nishi and Vozlisch origin: them being Mikuma Type 2s and the Vozlisch Type 44s. ATTs also reinforced the already devastated vanguard, with more infantry support of course.

"Alright, men!" von Calabria ordered. "CHARGE!"

Like a medieval order, the tanks began to move up, comprising the might of Komashi's armed divisions. They fired upon on any Confederate who dares to stop them. von Calabria also applied Rozhestvensky's tactics: his artillery divisions began to conduct attrition fire, targeting mostly once again the sophisticated defenses and equipment of the Confederates. They can only hope to turn the situation around...

INCOMING!

Alarms blared as missile lock was detected, the Supple LH-W0RLDSTARs being lumbering targets for anti-air fire. Huge in size and low in speed, they lacked really any defensive armament to protect themselves from enemy action. But they had a few tricks up their sleeves in situations like these.

“Releasing flares in 3...2...1!”

Dozens of flares and chaff popped out of the tail of the W0RLDSTAR, the trailing smoke giving the appearance of angels wings as the flares lazily floated within the sky. Hopefully, the missiles would hit that instead of the actual plane. It seemed to work for the most part, as missiles slammed into the flares mere meters behind the fleeing planes. But not all the missiles were tricked, as at least 2 of the enemy missiles found their targets. One of them hit the underbelly of the W0RLDSTAR, blowing it to smithereens. Pieces of plane rained down onto the countryside as a massive fireball lingered in the airspace. The other missile seemed to clip the wing of a W0RLDSTAR, sending smoke and debris flying off behind it, but still allowing the plane to fly home, albeit in a much more wobbly fashion then her healthy counterparts.

Almost at the Supple border, the remaining transports were set upon by enemy fighters, sitting ducks for all practical purposes. Luckily, the Supple Air Service had already arrived and began to engage the enemy fighters, covering the transports until they made their escape...

Meanwhile, the paratroopers immediately began causing trouble behind enemy lines, blowing up rail lines, attacking radar sights, and generally being as annoying as possible. Yet, their was a bit of a conundrum, as around 150 paratroopers had landed in Azanami, apparently neutral in all this. Treated as if they were friends by the population, nearly all the paratroopers their seemed content to wait out the war with their newfound friends, much to the chagrin of Supple high command. They assured the local governance that they would cause no trouble and would comply with all local laws.

The remains troopers continued their hostile actions against the enemy, even with their casualties starting to mount...

Back at sea, the Supple Naval Service had scored a successful surprise attack against the enemy ships, although they had taken some missile fire from the retreating enemy vessels. The missile cruiser S.S Doug Dimmadome, Owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome had take a series of missile strikes. It was now listing badly off to port side, and was in serious danger of rolling over into the seas. Another destroyer had been heavily damaged and a third one sunk altogether. Nonetheless, they had succeeded in driving off the enemy, and would now have naval control of the surrounding waters. As the Supple fleet moved in to occupy the area, they sent one final barrage at the fleeing enemy ships, perhaps a potshot, but still hopeful they could score at least a few more hits.

Finally, the Supple Skeleton Army was finally on the move again. After nearly causing a riot in Eatdum, Supple High Command had imposed harsh disciplinary measures on the soldiers, going so far as to court martial and execute several of the ring leaders who had been instrumental in creating a disorderly atmosphere. These men had begun committing multiple criminal offenses while in country, many of them capital offenses. Their fate would hopefully be a deterrent to any future troublemakers. The army marched toward the COIC front lines, although they were still a day away from reaching them.

Confederation of Independent Colonies

At the front

The Confederate position in the war was beginning to turn evermore unfavorable in the eyes of the Confederate High Command. Attacks on the northern and southern ends of the defensive line by Komashi's forces were proving successful, and a noticeable salient had been forming in the middle of the front, where the fighting was the least frequent. Such a bulge in the front line would make a very big target for Komashi's army, so immediately the Overseer ordered his warmaster and his generals to begin constructing an elaborate defensive belt in the region, reinforcing the original line so that it may become impassible. From their, the Confederate Army would launch a counterattack. The center of the line was held by elements of both the Second and Fourth Legions, but the Overseer would send the third Legion, the Hands of the Overseer. The second defense army line ran parallel behind the first; the distance was 10-15 kilometers on average, but as far as 20-25 kilometers in some places. On the main axes, where the Komashi attacks were expected, the second defense line was almost as strong as the main defense line. It was not as heavily mined, though, and more thinly manned. Another addition to both defenses were the Anti-tank strong-points, which were constructed as to provide all-round defense. Special attention was focused on the cooperation of all firing means within the ATSPs (guns, antitank rifles, and mortars), their cooperation with artillery and mortar fire being conducted from indirect firing positions.

Northern Front
The Crimson Rooks were struggling under the constant barrage of artillery, but they wouldn't receive any air support for at least another two days. The most they could do was return fire, and keep moving back. Warmaster Sarmiento believed that he could keep them in place for a bit longer, but on the ground the situation was dire. Due to reinforcing the center of the line, the Northern line received very little in terms of reinforcements, forcing the Second Legion to call in it's reserve regiments to help cover the slow and short retreat as the Legion was forced back by the onslaught.

In the South
Fairing better than their comrades up North, the Fourth Legion had recalled the forces that were sent ahead of the main defense line to attack von Calabria's vanguards, who had recovered much sooner than expected. As von Calabria's armored units pressed forward, the sound of jets could be heard overhead...

In the Sky
In the southern end of the front, thirty Vultur 93B light bombers were being escorted by dozens of a new type of aircraft, the Falcon-100 Fighter. Together they flew over the battle, and the Vulturs all took their turns diving down and unleashing their fury onto the invaders, either in the form of guided or unguided bombs, cluster bombs, or rockets. The Confederate Air Force ruled the skies for now, and they took advantage of it.

At Sea
The Confederate Task Force that had joined the Supple Fleet had not fired when their allies had, but they weren't idle without reason. They had expected the Komashi First Fleet to return fire, but their hadn't been any. The Armada's flagship, the CICS Eatdun, along with the accompanying two Raleigh class cruisers, fired their missiles at the enemy flotilla while they still remained in range. The primary target wasn't the Natori, the Armada was more concerned about the escorts, which could be used by the enemy to stop the armada's future submarine missions. The cruiser would live... for now.
