That's one reason. The other reason being that Serbia was probably one of the bigger hotspots of the Holocaust and a lot of serbian jews got carted off to death camps.

Simple. The steel, air tight doors were taken out as the war turned against nazi Germany to be used for more ammo, munitions, etc. As more and more concentration camps were overrun, they stopped using gas, and scrapped alot of the metal they could, and used other methods.

Also, that's assuming that door leads to a gas chamber. It looks more like an entrance to a set of sleeping quarters.
