Virginia-class Submarine

Designed for a wide range of open-ocean and littoral missions, the Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarine replaced the LA Class. It is set apart from other nuclear submarines in that instead of a traditional periscope, it uses AN/BVS-1 telescoping photonics masts, which include infrared sensors, hi-res cameras, and an Electronic Support Measures (ESM) array.
