The Free Land of Icopia is a gargantuan, cultured nation, ruled by Spenser the Slightly Almighty with an even hand, and renowned for its strictly enforced bedtime, daily referendums, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, democratic, humorless population of 27.751 billion Icopians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The enormous government juggles the competing demands of Education, Environment, and Law & Order. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Icopia City. The average income tax rate is 72.9%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The very strong Icopian economy, worth a remarkable 2,413 trillion icopas a year, is quite specialized and led by the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Book Publishing, Information Technology, and Furniture Restoration. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 86,955 icopas, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.5 times as much as the poorest.

The Treasury has been accused of flushing money down the toilet, coffee-addicted citizens look forward to baristas getting their name wrong at local coffee shops, urban entrepreneurs are busy introducing cockroaches into restaurant kitchens, and pareidolic SETI scientists swear there's a message from aliens hidden within pi. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Icopia's national animal is the ico, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Icopia is ranked 64,612th in the world and 2nd in The Region of Lost Pizza for Most Subsidized Industry, scoring 2,992.36 on the Gilded Widget Scale.
