The Republic of Dalis is a large, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its state-planned economy, ban on automobiles, and stringent health and safety legislation. The democratic, devout population of 86 million Dalians love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The medium-sized, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Administration, and Education. The average income tax rate is 36.3%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Dalisian economy, worth 3.51 trillion Dals a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, quite specialized black market in Book Publishing, Information Technology, Gambling, and Arms Manufacturing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 40,841 Dals, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Leader claims to be the epitome of family values, hostage-takers offer loyalty scheme points for prompt payment, people can get away with murder these days, and the "Underwear of Women in Power" issue of The Dalis City Times is sold out. Crime is almost non-existent, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Dalis's national animal is the Great Horned Owl, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Dalis is ranked 106,670th in the world and 2,866th in The North Pacific for Most Scientifically Advanced, scoring 82.47 on the Kurzweil Singularity Index.
