Republic of Funce
The Republic of Funce commonly called Funce, is a federal semi-direct democracy in the Southern Sea in the The Western Isles. It is bordered on the north by Ter natiour, on the south by none (closest is Iosnil), on the east by Fahraxi and on the west by Wellsia. Funce covers around 4,100 square miles and has had an estimated population of more than 12 million. Funce comprises of NUMBER SUBDIVISIONS and NUMBER TERRITORIES.
Funce is a small island nation that has a small number of natural resources. To compensate for the lack of resources, Funce has focused almost entirely on the service sector of the economy with the industrial sector being the second and only accounting for around 17% of the employed labor force. With a lack of resources comes a need to import. Funce imports more than 80% of its goods as it is not a strong manufacturing nation.
The origin of the nation's name stems from the natives that inhabited the island once colonists arrived. The natives on the island called it Fuanz (foo-an-z), however through the years the word morphed into what it is known as today, Funce (fun-s).
The standard way to refer to a citizen of Funce is as a "Funcian."
The Island of Funce was first settled in 1687 by British and French settlers. Eventually, the two nations signed an agreement making the islands an Anglo-French condominium that divided the island of Funce into two separate communities: one Anglophone and one Francophone. However, this divide only seemed to serve as a logistical tool since the dominant language on the island was English, followed by French, mostly as a second language. The condominium lasted from 1728 until 1908, when Funce gained their independence as the Republic of Funce.
Before colonization, the island was inhabited by around 18 different tribes and had a total population of around 125,000. The Tribe Vuat was the largest with a population of around 37,000 and control of more than 46% of the island. Colonists engaged in a passive manner with the tribesmen and traded often, however, European born diseases such as influenza, measles, and smallpox ravaged the native population to near extinction with only around 5,000 living natives by 1770.
Funce produced Cocoa beans for Europeans and luxurious wooden furniture. The island of Funce was administered well by the Anglo-French appointed government and the land was not overly exploited until the late 1880s when deforestation was widespread in order to create more cities for its rapidly growing population.
Historically, Funce was covered in dense rainforest with a mountain in the of the island measuring at 13,436 ft. When the population of Funce skyrocketed, deforestation was widespread to make room for farming and mining. Now as the manufacturing and agriculture sectors have a less prominent role in Funce, forests have begun to return while flat land and prairie is still common.
From April to November, Funce is dry and warm with temperature averaging 22°C-33°C. From December to March, Funce enters it's wet season where it experiences extensive rainfall and cooler temperatures 10°C-18°C. Heavy storms and monsoons are common during the wet season.
