Oh, thank you! It took me much, much longer with the flag creation tools than its simplicity would suggest! Haha.

Reposting from Forest's RMB as they are also Potato Alliance... Please remember:

1) FOLLOW ORDERS

2) Yes, that means you. Do not independently target, launch, or otherwise mess around.

3) Follow orders.

4) When our generals order us to strike, we will do so with tens of thousands of launches at a time. When we are attacked, we will need tens of thousands of shields at a time. Do not mess around.

5) The scoreboard is completely irrelevant early in the event. This goes on for 24 hours, and it's only in the last few hours it really means anything.

6) Follow orders.

7) If you do something stupid like launch without orders, expect your missiles to be blocked by our own alliance mates, and yourself to be treated harshly. Messing around endangers all of us.

8) Follow orders.

On a more peaceful note, I'm still building up this nation's 'Most Cultured' rating: It's still in [the recently regained] 12th place, its lead over the nation in 13th has been extended to 14 points (although they've picked up a few points too, otherwise the gap would be wider), and overtaking the nation currently in 11th will take me -- unless they also improve their rating -- another 33 points...

Update from Potato Command: Okay spuds, you may have noticed that it's down to us and CRAB! You may also have noticed that they have a few more nukes than us. So we, the Potato Generals, have been thinking. We see two ways forward: Eventually we start fighting after we all sit around for a long time, and they slowly bleed us dry as our shields run out. OR! We can ask then if they want to end our MDP early and just duke it out now and go down in a blaze of spudly glory fighting as hard as we can. What do you all say?

Latest update from Potato Command [edited]:
Those Crabs look real mean with their 1m+ nukes. Kinda gross not gonna lie. We're probably f[-]ed, not gonna lie. But hey maybe we're not.

Here's the thing though, I don't really care. I just spent 2 hours being all whiny because work was bad and honestly the last thing I want to do is N-Day right now, but then I remembered I'm not a loser and to get it together. I have 500 puppets, and they're gonna be on that front line ready to die for the Alliance if they have to. We're the ... Potato Alliance okay. Did we give up last year when the Horsemen absolutely obliterated us, and the odds looked unbeatable? Hell no. We are gonna give up now? No. Look at it this way, if we break them before their nukes break us, we win. And sure, the odds are tough, but I'm here to take a shot at it.

The situation is this. Our Mutual Defense Pact with Crabs of the Apocalypse expires at Hour 12. After this, an indefinite Non-Aggression Pact goes into effect. There is an agreement that this pact can be broken anytime, but hostilities may not commence until two hours after the pact is broken. Therefore, if I were you, Hour 14 is the Time

ALL POTATO ALLIANCE STOCKPILE NUKES. EVEN IF YOU JUST WOKE UP JOIN NOW AND STOCKPILE NUKES. SHOOT NOTHING, STORE EVERYTHING.

WE DO NOT FEAR DEATH, WE WELCOME THE OPPORTUNITY AND SPIT IN ITS EYE. IF THE APOCALYPSE IS TO COME, LET IT COME, AND LET US FACE IT

Plan to be online at 7AM Eastern Time (this is in ~ four and a half hours) for our final stand. Stand strong brave spuds, for we're not out of this yet

I apologise for missing the last Security Council vote - I stay off NS for the few days surrounding N Day as I really can't stand the forced mini-game.

I have voted against the GA, as per the wishes of the majority of voters here.

Gardavasque wrote:So, I decided to take Monday off work to stay up all night and shield our beautiful region from the nukes. That will afford me some extra time this weekend to update the map. If you are relatively new or recently returned to the IDU and would like to claim your spot let me know: https://idugov.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2050&page=2.

So as it happens, there are no current map requests from IDU nations. If you are a new IDU nation and interested in claiming your place, or if you are perhaps already on the map and need to update or edit anything, please let me know.

You reminded me that I meant to submit my request! I have now done so <3

I’ve been here for a while and have yet to request a spot on the map. I guess I’ll do that now.

It is currently 9-1, of WA member nations in this region voting, FOR the current Security Council resolution at vote, so I'm casting my vote in favour.

I urge the other W.A. members here to follow ourr lead and vote Against the G.A. proposal that is currently on the floor, 'Health And Safety Act', because it effectively protects only average-dimensioned workers from their nations' predominant species, ignoring workers of less average dimensions or non-predominant species.

(OOC: I've raised a legality question about this, as a potential contradiction of the 'Charter of Civil Rights', in the GenSec subforum...)

It is currently 7-4, of WA member nations in this region voting, AGAINST the current General Assembly resolution at vote, so I'm casting my vote in opposition.

Lead over #13 now extended to 17 points, overtaking the current #11 would now (if they don't increase their own rating) need another 29 points: That's 4 points gained in 4 days...

Overtaking the current #1, though, would now (ditto) need another 502 points beyond that, so even if I can maintain the current average rate of +1 point/day we'd probably be talking about not until (at the least) somewhere in February 2023...

1. Is voting for the Cheese Festival now closed?
2. Do we also have a Film Festival coming up fairly soon?

When I had to leave my former long-term lodgings, back in May, neighbours there volunteered to store a lot of my stuff in their attic. They now need to have work done on the roof, and therefore need to clear the attic, so I went over there earlier today and we loaded the lot -- I think -- into their largest car to bring all of it over here instead. On the down side, my current room is now rather cluttered (although it's still rather less so than my old room was...): On the up side, I now have access again not only to many more of my books but also to the MANY notebooks that I filled with ideas about both my own nations' backgrounds and the IDU's ecosystems while offline during the lockdowns...

I'd LOVE to hear more about your thoughts on the ecosystems/climates - I've recently staked out a claim on the south-west of Neria, and while Thassala has always been somewhat futuristic!Hellenic inspired, the only thing I could find regarding climate was that it was vaguely analogous to South America.

We had a poll some while ago (see: https://idugov.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2031) about Neria's fauna, but I'd have to check puppet-ownership to see how many of the players who voted actually have nations on that continent as I'd be inclined to give the preferences of those who do have -- such as yourself -- a higher weighting than the preferences of those whose nations in the region are all situated on other continents instead. As far as climate goes, I'd presume that the south-west is quite rainy on average, with -- unless the map's latitudinal limits have been changed again while I wasn't looking -- moderately warm summers on average but cooler (although, at least in coastal areas, normally not bitterly cold) winters. Also, as you might have seen in the notes that you found, I suspect that the continent might have an Andes-like range of mountains roughly parallel to its western coast. The coastal lowlands would probably have mixed (broadleaf & coniferous) woodland as their main natural ecotype.
I suggest that we continue this discussion in the thread whose url I gave earlier in this post.

Guess I’ll have to start checking that account regularly again as one of the guardians of the founder.

Yes. I am quite busy and can't always remember to log in. I had thought you and Bears were already logging in to it regularly tbqh.

I’ve had to set up new notebooks and iPads over this past year, and it takes time to transfer as many passwords as I use on multiple devices. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Sometimes I check to see how long it’s been since an account on NS was active and usually that’s enough.

Time's just been slipping past me, somehow, recently: There's quite a few of my own puppets (even though I've greatly reduced the number that are "awake" from its pre-Covid peak) that received 'Apocalypse' warnings this week, too.

Although the nation of Bears Armed supports the principle of Democracy, we have instructed our Mission at the World Assembly to vote against the proposed resolution 'Democratic Stability Act' that is currently on the floor. To quote from a comment that the ChairBear of that Mission made during the proposal's drafting stage:

"Firstly, as I have commented in previous debates here, We regard it as not only intrusive but hypocritical for an organisation that accepts non-democratic members to try telling those members that are democracies -- and only those members -- how to govern themselves.
"Secondly, we consider it offensive that those non-democratic members of the Assembly would -- under this organisation's standard operating practices -- be able to vote in this decision that would not affect them as well."
