I think elections are a great idea. We could have a cycle where people are chosen by popular vote and hold that office and its duties for their time in that office. We could designate certain times to hold elections, too.

This is a good point! With Venice being an ambitious region, I wouldn't be opposed to aligning with the invader side. But open to being more neutral or case-by-case too.

This is a good idea. I am mostly making up offices on the fly right now based on what folks want to do. What core functions should we have? Diplomacy, Military, Recruitment, are three I can think of off the top of my head. Maybe some kind of elected Head of Government?

We should have a leader (you) that always stays in office but can be voted out with a 75% majority if the need arises. There needs to always be someone in charge to deal with the elections.
