After the Ball

Engelbrecht: The ball was to promote peace. It was to show we could get along. It was to be a middle ground.

Overseer: That is what occurred, your Imperial Highness.

Engelbrecht: No, that is not what happened. What happened is egos came into play. Some had personal debts to settle, others tried to outdo their rival. This didn't prevent war, this may have caused it. We brought a boiling mix into this nation. What comes next is partially my fault.

Overseer: Sir, such a claim cannot be made at this moment. You have not caused any war.

Engelbrecht: Then why do I feel like it was a bad idea. It wasn't aware the Kaiser of Eraus would show. I didn't know the American would carry his ego on his shoulders.

Overseer: The Kaiser of Eraus, did you not smooth things over with him?

Engelbrecht: Smooth over is relative. Yes, the trade embargo was lifted. Yes, we have a vital trade partner once again. We still have guards along the border. Erausi and Vashnalli troops at a stalemate, neither wanting to shoot the first shot. I feel as if I am nearing the Kaiser's good side, but that doesn't mean we're best friends.

Overseer: I see. What shall we do, Emperor?

Engelbrecht: We wait. We watch the start-game. We stay neutral until we have no choice to do so.

Overseer: Understood, sir. Möge Gott dich segnen.

Engelbrecht: Ehre sei dem Imperium.

“I believe Sotriuvania and Gerdalle could both benefit from one another’s company in the face of tyranny. I urge you to reach out to President Asborn — I trust that she will be most eager to unite with the new protectors of democracy,” she adds, glancing over at the other side of the room.

“If you’ll excuse me, I must greet the delegation from Eraus before the ball is over in earnest,” she says, crossing the large room.

“Ah...Kaiser. So good to see you again. Last time I saw you, it was at your own palace during your coronation,” she says, taking a sip from her own flute of champagne.

Minister Leclerq listens to Queen Irene and nods: "Thank you, Your Majesty, for your precious time, I shall hinder you no more. We will surely reach out to President Asborn to see what can be done." The Minister then decently bows before then Queen and waits until she departs for the Erausi delegation.

Kang: Greetings sir, I don’t believe we’ve met thus far. I’m Kang Zexian, Premier of Qianda, and I couldn’t help but see you speaking to Queen Irene, and thought I should introduce myself. If you wouldn’t mind, I would like to introduce to you the possibly of Qiandan investment in your beautiful nation, with the additional possibility of larger scale cooperation between our nations. See, it seems that ultranationalism has reared its ugly head again with the rise of Korea and the Axis of Canton, and it is my belief that nations which do not want to be wholly overtaken by these regimes should unite to uphold the old order of democracy and self determination.

Jean-Luc Leclerq, MoFA: "Greetings Your Excellency, je suis honoré de faire votre connaissance (trans. 'I'm honoured to meet you'). The government of Gerdalle has been following, with growing concern I must say, latest incidents and happenings in Asia, especially those regarding the Korean aggression. We both seem to agree that imperialism and ultranationalism are things to be very much wary of. And not only that, nations that uphold these ideas as their core ideology need to be contained, without exceptions. However, there is a slight problem, Your Excellency, and that is the fact that while Gerdalle is indeed resolute in its goal to uphold 'the old order of democracy' as you say, I do not think that the same thing can be said about Qianda, with all due respect of course. If I am to be honest, Qianda is not usually seen as a model of democracy. Thus, I am afraid that both internally and externally, Gerdalle would not be able to explain and to justify why and how it can 'fight' for democracy alongside Qianda. Nevertheless, I will make sure that your words and proposal is heard by His Majesty the King and his Council of Ministers, that I can promise you."

"As for the investments you spoke of, I can see how they can be mutually beneficial. To achieve closer relations between our nations, I propose that we estabilish proper diplomatic relations between Qianda and Gerdalle - that is to exchange embassies. Then, we can work on details of our cooperation," said the Minister.

OOC: Forgot that I had already departed the Premier to Nanjing, so just pretend this is before he left
Kang: Though I understand your concern about the nature of our government, I can ensure you that we are indeed a democracy. However, our model is a little more confusing, as it is not representative to the highest levels as the western model is, as Qiandans are a more collective society and thus believe in the success of the group over the success of the individual. With this as the case, we have closed elections for our top leadership positions to ensure the best for the job make it there. Additionally, our position of Premier could be compared to the old Roman position of dictator, albeit for life. These vast freedoms afforded by not having to worry about constant re-election for offices have allowed us to get as far as we have, and it has shown. I would personally recommend reading some writings from Lee Kuan Yew. Regardless of this, I agree that formal diplomatic relations between our nations are long overdue, and I thank you for seeing the potential that mutual investment, maybe even political cooperation, could benefit both our countries tremendously. I shall dispatch a diplomatic mission to Gerdalle as soon as the current crisis we face resolves itself, and I eagerly await the word of the king on the matter of my proposition. Unfortunately, as I would like to speak on the potential future of our nations cooperations more, I regretfully have to depart immediately for Nanjing for urgent business. Kang shakes the minister’s hand Good day to you sir, and a safe flight home.

As the Union is currently engaged in operational changes in various parts of the world and about to have hugh level talks in Berlin with Korea, the Union cannot spare a member of the government to act in an official capacity. However, we can send an observer from the State Department who has been instructed to listen on the proceedings and report back to Washington so as to help form a response that is suitable to our goals.

President Roosevelt has arrived at the meeting and is hopeful for a peaceful end to this matter and has noted that in the event he must depart, secretary Andrews will take over the talks for him in the event of a family emergency. He too hopes the the Koreans will leave pride behind and work at a faster pace to resolve this crisis.

"I want to first thank the Government of Eraus for hosting this meeting which will hopefully bring an end to this crisis we currently find ourselves in. let me first state to the Korean Delegation that the Union works for peace but we have a demands to make in regards to this matter. First, we demand that the embassy staff be released at once with no delays and in good health. They can be released via air line to Canton and fly from there to Hawaii. Second, under no circumstances are they to be harassed or Korean aircraft or vessels to enter Union waters without prior notice. This of course does not extend to civilian aircraft or ships but this can be waived if the vessel or aircraft in question is being used to espionage purposes. Third, the embassy ground will maintained until such that the State Department can remove the belongings of the staff and recover government files. Any files or computers taken by the Korean Government are to be returned to the Union once these talks have concluded. and lastly, Should relations return to normal at a later date, both the Union and Korea will agree to treat each embassy staff with respect in accordance with international laws and rules." Roosevelt stated as he looked towards the Empress, his expression neutral and but mind calculating every move.

"Korean superiority over the Yankee is not a disputed charge Mr. President, and even if it was, their is no dispute of it. Koreans have proven on countless occasions that we are far superior to the Yankee, but that is besides the point. The demands of the Empire are quite simple, an apology. All we ask. No money or territory. Just a simple apology, an admission of defeat. One of inferiority to the Korean nation. In return not only will I personally guarantee the return of your people, but I will also return the Qiandans that you have gotten in bed with. All prisoners held will be returned, and the embassy in Seoul will be burnt to the ground. Those papers and documents, never to be seen again. I trust that is fair enough for you?"

As Roosevelt leaves the room, Secretary Andrews speaks up after the Koreans have left the room

"That was a rather nice first impression don't ya think Sir?"

Roosevelt rolled his eyes and scoffed

"Hardly. She wants more than an apology, she wants to show the world her nation's supposed superiority. I guarantee that if they weren't in the Axis of Canton and we didn't make that agreement with Canton, Korea would be shi*ting itself silly if the New Jersey and other task forces showed up off the Korean coast. The gall that woman has is enough to make me puke. Damn Asians....the only good ones out of the bunch are the Cantonese and Japanese."

Andrews nods befores replying

"If I may Sir....why did you agree to that deal Canton offered? I understand we have good relations but to curtail our operations in the region may appear weak to others."

Roosevelt sighed and looked at Andrews as they entered the private office

"I suspect events in Europe in the future will heat up. We have too many fires to put out and not enough resources. With Asia going to the dogs, it's best we stay out of the place for a few years while we complete our own plans. Should certain projects come into service well...it won't matter if we withdraw fully from Europe and the Pacific..."

Andrews raises an eyebrow but refrains from asking further, both men sitting in silence as they drank brandy

Secret Emergency Meeting in Nanjing

The Papuan delegation makes sure it arrives early and remains seated in the conference hall eagerly awaiting the arrival of the others. The lead delegate, the Ambassador to Qianda, receives a telephone on his diplomatic mobile.

Ambassador: "Hello?"

Caller: "Mr Ambassador, I must instruct you not to allow these talks to falter. You MUST find a solution to the current crisis our nation faces."

Ambassador: "Yes, but with whom am I speaking?"

Caller: "The Chairman."

Ambassador: "M, M, M, MR CHAIRMAN!"

Chairman: "Calm down Mr Ambassador. You are the most senior member of the Department of Foreign and External Affairs who can attend. We have deemed it too risky to send any minister of government for risk of Cantonese air harassment. Therefore, we require you to represent our interests to the highest degree."

Ambassador: "Yes Mr Chairman, I understand fully."

Chairman: "I will call occasionally to see how things are going at the conference. But for now I must oversee the national defence planning right now."

Ambassador: "Yes, sir. Of course, sir."

Chairman: "......."

Chairman: "There's something else..."

Ambassador: "Yes, sir?"

Chairman: "Should this nation fall, and this administration be incapable to lead the nation. Then I instruct you and your delegation to form a government in exile, to organise international resistance towards Canton."

Ambassador: "Sir, that is a huge responsibility, sir! Are things truly that serious at home?"

Chairman: "The situation is somewhat unclear Mr Ambassador, but I can see Cantonese warships from my office with a pair of binoculars. I will keep in touch when I can. Carry out your duties with dignity and strength Mr Ambassador. Good day to you."

The phone call ends and the Ambassador's face turns slightly grey as he lets out a bit sigh.

The Collapse of the Big Tent Parties

Following the collapse of the Blue party into the NCP (National Conservative Party, led by Ivan Karadzic) and the INP (Infinian Nationalist Party), all eyes were looking at the Empress to act. As the cabinet lost its majority, and with a distaste of elections, many are giving a full mandate to the Empress to solve the problem. The Empress, labeling the problem 'a constitutional crisis', has decided that a new constitution has to be put in place. The heriditary monarchy is making its return, and Infiny will be placed under a political system roughly similar to Bonapartism. Paradoxically, it is nicknamed 'the Democracy within a Monarchy.' Freedom within Order. As with any major amendment to basic law, the new constituion will need a 2/3 approval in the senate and has to be ratified by every single state.
