New London, New Britain

Coming to you live from the capital of the nation, President Henry Baker is preparing to deliver his annual address to the seated members of the legislature and general public in the Grand Atrium of the Residence.

The soaring golden arches reflect the many spotlights situated on the ceiling of the massive chamber, illuminating the crowd below. Among the rows of gilded seats, the various legislators are seated in their best evening dress, some craning their necks looking for waiters serving drinks.

Seated at an elevated pavilion toward the back of the room are the members of the press, also adorned in formal attire and conversing amongst themselves -- most likely predicting what the president would address.

And finally, having crammed themselves into the long and winding balconies, several hundred or so members of the general public look down into the chamber.

After a few minutes, the lights dim and the spotlights focus on the elevated podium at the front of the Grand Atrium. Vice-President James Baker approaches the podium, flanked by Foreign Secretary Saira Patel and Defense Secretary Melvin Trygs. He glances at the crowd, then takes a sip of water. He clears his throat, and the crowd falls silent.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. It is my proud honor, in my capacity as Vice-President of New Britain, to introduce my brother and president, Henry Baker," he announces, stepping aside.

A beaming Henry Baker walks onto the stage, assuming his place at the podium.

"Good evening. Government, nation, world -- I greet you all."

Baker continues to address various topics, spanning healthcare, financial investments, and immigration.

"We are a nation that needs to grow and prosper. The way that a nation grows and prospers is through the cultivation and acceptance or new ideas. As such, I will be instructing Foreign Secretary Patel to revamp the immigration system and create a merit-based, objective immigration system to urge new members to join and strengthen the community that is our nation. Of course, refugees are of a separate status -- this system is merely intended to moderate the requirements and attributes expected of those who immigrate to New Britain for work-related purposes."

Following a round of applause, Baker continues to speak for another two hours.

"Welcome back, New Britain. President Baker just outlined his plans for this coming presidential year, chief among them more government funding for start-up businesses and a working immigration rehaul. Immediate responses to the speech have been mainly positive, with most support coming from the president's own Liberal Party members. However, some are wondering whether these updates are the result of the president wanting to put together a cohesive campaign to deal with the upcoming re-election campaign," says host Justin Goldman.

"Precisely. The currently declared candidates for the upcoming election, if you don't remember, are former New London mayor and former Deputy Foreign Secretary Ainitosh Acharya (Conservative Party), the hedge fund billionaire Robert Rubenstein (Liberal Party), former National Bank CEO Viraj Patil (Conservative Party), entrepreneur Alex Williams (Liberal Party), and immigration firebrand Senator Jonathan Watson (Conservative Party)," says Rachel Walker.

It remains to be seen whether the president's speech will allow him to formulate an effective strategy to contend with the upcoming debates.

President Dawes gives statement from Rose Garden

"My fellow Americans and people of the world. Today I can report that after a long and hard manhunt, the group responsible for the Capitol Bombing has at last been taken down. Their leader, one Robert Turner, was the mastermind behind the attack and during a raid on this group compound, he was shot and killed in the ensuing fire fight. I gave orders for his arrest and to be taken alive but Turner opened fire on the force sent to arrest him and his group and was thus killed as a result. Those who died as a result of his plot to overthrow the Union have been avenged and can now rest in peace. There are still some at large but without their leadership, they will be quickly brought to justice. Thank and God Bless the Union."

Orange-bourgogne wrote:National Strike Day 3: Innocence lost, patience is up
~ OBBC News

On the final day of the National Strike, things have turned for the worse. Approximately five million people participated in the Province of England alone, and another five million are said to have been involved in other protests across Orange-bourgogne.

With no sign from the Government that the Inclusive Society Act will be repealed, or indeed that any change whatsoever will be made to it, the protestors were much more aggressive today when compared with the previous days. For example, slurs were sprayed on homes and businesses, and threats were made by both sides.

More than 70 people, including about 15 police officers, were injured in clashes in a suburb of Birmingham today as extremist demonstrators fought with riot police during an anti-Inclusive Society Act march attended by more than 25.000 people.

The injured from this particular clash in Birmingham were transported to a nearby hospital. In the meantime, officers confiscated five petrol bombs, numerous tear gas bombs, and sticks. The protestors wanted to march past the local government’s head office, but the police created an exclusion zone to keep them away. Violence broke out when some of the protestors tried to break the cordon. Our reporter said that the march began largely peaceful until a section of the group pushed forward in an attempt to break the police lines to reach the government buildings. Riot police reinforcements moved in to hold the line, but within minutes it turned into a violent and ugly confrontation.

Despite police charges, minority protesters’ groups held their ground. Mounted officers were deployed, as the streets virtually became a battlefield. Stewards tried to restore order, but were overwhelmed by the demonstrators who continued the fight. Marchers at the end were unaware what happened at the front, and remained relatively calm and well-behaved. Some rioters on the other hand even taunted the police. They were met with tactical movements by the officers who tried to break up the protestors into smaller groups. Most rioters wore masks and scarfs to avoid identification.

Two hours after the fighting began, the marchers finally began heading to a playing field for a rally. There the tensions calmed down, and later the protestors began to return home.

More on this later.

National Strike Day 3: Riot was “planned and intentional”
~ OBBC News

Birmingham Police Commissioner Paul Melville said tonight that the violence during the third day of the National Strike had been “carefully planned” by “a sizeable minority intent on causing trouble”. He said that the hypocrisy of the group knew no bounds, and that more arrests later are to follow. Police Commissioner Melville also said the following during a press conference on the ‘event’: “They must have known and anticipated exactly what would happen today, and they provided the opportunity for it to happen. We saw a cowardly mob of extremists, who turn up with no real intention to demonstrate the Inclusive Society Act but to cause danger and violence towards others”.

The Secretary of State for Internal Affairs, Mrs Stephanie Hodges MP (Social Republican Front), who deputises for the Prime Minister who currently resides at her countryside estate, said that the Government was “absolutely committed to find who these scumbags are and put them in front of a court that will sentence them to harsh punishments”. All fixed cameras in the area have been confiscated by the police and must submit their footage to the police, who will review it to see if any individuals can be recognised.

When confronted with these allegations, Leader of the Opposition Arthur of Avalon MP (Regnum Unitum), denied that they were true. “In fact, we specifically told people not to resort to violence whatever the circumstances.” Shadow Internal Affairs Secretary William Huntingdon MP (UNI), who spent time in police custody for opposing the Government’s policies, said that there “are strong symptoms to show that actually, this was all planned and organised by the coalition parties [which are the SRF and Vox Populi]. We will do further investigations and come forward with the results as soon as we have them”, he told our team.
