Widespread flooding reported in Louisiana and Mississippi, several levees breached

Hurricane Thomas, which was last reported to be a Category 4 storm, has made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane, causing widespread damage to New Orleans and surrounding areas and though the tidal barriers have prevent some of the damage and flooding, several levees in and around the city, mainly near Lake Pontchartrain have failed and flooding is severe in those regions that border the lake. major flooding is ongoing in the city itself and the President has ordered that the Louisiana national Guard will be federalized and ordered into the city to both secure it against looting and aid in recovery efforts. Similar events have unfolded in Mississippi, with Biloxi and Gulfport suffering from major flooding, though not as bad as is currently unfolding in Louisiana. Both the Army National Guard and Air National Guard have been called up to aid in search and rescue effort and recovery operations and also that Naval units from Puerto Rico, which has managed to escape major damage, have been ordered to head to both affected states to aid in recovery efforts.
