Some people RP (like Wolfana and The Orion Primacy), other just chat, debate, or hang out around the Discord server. A little slow at the moment however.

As for the Ottoman, apparently they were having very difficult time getting through. They breached the wall in places, surge in, only to be met with ferocious defender and threw back. Tunneling failed, as the Byzantine literally counter then with their own and poured Greek Fire into it.
The reason the defender lost that night was apparently the Genoese captain, whom was appointed by the last Byzantine Emperor Constantine XI, as the commander was badly wounded. His men carried him off the wall, which put much defender (especially Genoese and Venetian) in a panic and they abandoned the wall. The Byzantine however stood their ground for quite a while, before they too were overwhelmed.
No one knew the true fate of Constantine XI, the last Byzantine emperor. Most of his closest guards and advisors died as well in the fighting. We got only second hand accounts and reports by those who were present at the battle. Still, I would give him the benefit of the doubt, going with the version that he died in the fighting and so while leading one last charge against the Ottoman troops.

It’s strange. I would think Constantine XI would be a high priority target for the Ottomans and his fate would be better known. Like you, I personally think he died during one last charge.

Although I think the Ottoman account center around him trying to escape by ship, but being killed during an encounter. Another one I read about is a group of the Ottoman soldiers decapitated presented his head to Mehmed II, who proceeded to mount it.

Still I find it odd the Mehmed II declared the Ottoman Empire as the continuation of the Roman Empire. Although I think many Europeans had a fascination on continuing the legacy.
